Firmware roadmap - Firefly and 4.2 are coming - Oppo Find 5

Just saw this comment in a thread by Carl on the Oppo forums:
The update to 4.2 was delayed due to the development of Project Firefly. Once we switch over, it's very unlikely that future Android updates would take this long.
In late July, we will be releasing a public beta of Project Firefly based on Android 4.1. Starting from this release, we will stop updating the old beta firmware, and instead focus on releasing a final stable version of it.
In early August, Project Firefly is switching over to Android 4.2.

Does anyone know why they are releasing a 4.1 Firefly version instead of focusing on 4.2?

The reason is often the same as us (those) who compile Roms. If you start on 4.1 and fixing all issues, its more easy to switch to the next update. As they say, expect firefly beta last Julie then as they says 4.2 and 4.3 will go faster than HTC or Sammy or any other deviceses.

It is an excellent guess. CM team will not make a SDK port. Source: http://goo.gl/OgWcA and http://goo.gl/SScoQ
Source for Gingerbread was... December 17 I think. Internal testing and such, alphas and nightlies, and it was on ROM Manager January 17. So a stable enough release to be made public in that manner was one month. Alphas and such before that. Approximately one week for a booting version with touchscreen.
Edit: source of ICS should be released soon after the release of Galaxy Nexus. Source: WIKIPEDIA
Havent you read there help on CM7? DONT ASK!
It will come out when it comes out.

[INFO] Google´s next Android OS "Jelly Bean"

Close on the heels of Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt announcing the arrival of the upcoming version of Android OS termed Ice Cream Sandwich in October or November, speculations have started on the next version of Android.
According to a report citing trusted sources in 'This is My Next', Jelly Bean is the working name for next incarnation of Android.
The name follows Google's tradition of calling its Android operating systems after sweets in alphabetical order. Earlier versions of Android follow a typical order -- Cupcake 1.5, Donut 1.6, Eclair 2.1, Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3, Honeycomb 3.0 and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich.
The report quotes industry source saying, that the "game-changing stuff" that had originally been scheduled for Ice Cream Sandwich will be being pushed to Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean could be dubbed Android 4.5 or Android 5.0, depending on the amount of features packed, says the report.
Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to be a universal operating system that will work on phones, tablets, TVs, and even phones that transform into laptops. Among other things, the OS is likely to bring an updated app launcher, holographic user interface, interactive and new homescreen widgets and a multi-tasking panel.

Not much information there, besides the name "Jelly Bean". Has that been known already?
Anyone get the OTA yet?
I thought ics was the game changer os? The one that was push back from gingerbread ?
The holographic user interface is still being shopped around huh? That junk was being hyped up pre-honeycomb release too.
Doubt it we will see that on nexus s
Maybe the nexus++ and galaxy nexus

i think this will be only running on dual , triple or quad core devices The nexus one was too old for the ICS Update, likely the Nexus S will be also too old for 5.0

Google hasn't even commented on Jelly Bean so how are they hyping it? In fact, I think they toned down the ICS announcement because apparently a lot of stuff was pushed back to the next major release. And Gingerbread was definitely the first release of Android that Google could really be proud of.

Same here. Brazil, ZTA... not even an announcement for a far away release of ICS.
I hope Samsung hasn't hidden any secrets away from the released source code (like code to very specific drivers). If they have, having the sources won't suffice for a properly working ICS Galaxy S 2.
on the other hand, this may be an indication that Samsung hasn't been able to correct bugs still present in their pseudo-official ICS release, and this is their last resort: release the code so that the developers community can fix bugs Samsung hasn't be able to fix. Not that Samsung didn't have to make such release - they should and it is high time they do so.

We know for a fact that there are bugs that Samsung is too clueless to notice/fix... But they are also too clueless to pull the fixes from the community.
See the fuel_alerted wakelock bug for example... Fixed for around 6 months by the community, still broken in Samsung kernels.

I'd agree that it will probably be 4.1, but Google can't just sit back and not make big changes. I expect huge news. Its the 5th anniversary of Android. There are rumors of 5 nexus devices. Windows 8 launches around the same time, as will ios6 which will probably have significant changes. Google can't sit still and pull a gingerbread type update.

There's nothing to say the new os will require any higher resources or more space though. Especially since everything about it is rumor.

That's what I heard also. Since 4.0 was a major UI change from previous versions of Android im sure whatever is next, whether it be 4.1 or 5.0, will just be small changes with few new features at the most..

Google can't keep making gaping changes without further exacerbating the fragmentation problem. I'd more expect Jellybean to be 4.1 than 5.0.
It'd be stupid of them to spend all the time overhauling the interface for ICS only to overhaul it again. The mass market doesn't like change in the interactivity of the device.
I expect far larger enhancements in usability. Further enhancements to ICS social network integration. Better syncing and integration with google drive (camera syncing). Maybe Google Chrome integration.
Sounds like the bulk of the focus will be buying from Google directly (maybe all carriers?)

Considering that 4.2 is just the same JB line and hoping that Samsung won't turn his back on current customers I think that there is a 50/50 chance that we will get it.
You have to ask yourself, what features in 4.2 make it a worthwhile release for Samsung? Camera and lockscreen enhancements wouldn't be adopted because Samsung uses Touchwiz there. Notification shade enhancements could be adopted. No, this is a bigger update for vanilla users.
I would be happy if we get 4.1.1 first.
Yes it will be but not android 5.0
