Maybe wait a week for AOSP source release of v4.2 and than we can say if it can be done or not, merged to CM10 or forked to CM11.

I don't think there's much chance Samsung will release official 4.2, pretty certain we'll get it unofficially in the form of CM11 though..

We don't even have official jelly bean 4.1 yet
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Considering that 4.2 is just the same JB line and hoping that Samsung won't turn his back on current customers I think that there is a 50/50 chance that we will get it.
You have to ask yourself, what features in 4.2 make it a worthwhile release for Samsung? Camera and lockscreen enhancements wouldn't be adopted because Samsung uses Touchwiz there. Notification shade enhancements could be adopted. No, this is a bigger update for vanilla users.
I would be happy if we get 4.1.1 first.
Yes it will be but not android 5.0
https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb
EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: Android 4.2 is just Jelly Bean! Geeks and Android fanboys around the world gasp in shock and lose their compulsive desire to flash ROMs!
No need for a thread. There already is a "jellybean" thread use that. Locked

Well well now, it seems that Android 5.0 (code named Jelly Bean) is scheduled for release in November. Go take a lookie see. This may be old news for some of ya, but I just got the news. ;-)

Rumor? Not official? I've also heard that Jelly Bean will be 4.1 and won't be a huge change or require any additional resources?

I'd agree that it will probably be 4.1, but Google can't just sit back and not make big changes. I expect huge news. Its the 5th anniversary of Android. There are rumors of 5 nexus devices. Windows 8 launches around the same time, as will ios6 which will probably have significant changes. Google can't sit still and pull a gingerbread type update.

There's nothing to say the new os will require any higher resources or more space though. Especially since everything about it is rumor.

That's what I heard also. Since 4.0 was a major UI change from previous versions of Android im sure whatever is next, whether it be 4.1 or 5.0, will just be small changes with few new features at the most..

Google can't keep making gaping changes without further exacerbating the fragmentation problem. I'd more expect Jellybean to be 4.1 than 5.0.
It'd be stupid of them to spend all the time overhauling the interface for ICS only to overhaul it again. The mass market doesn't like change in the interactivity of the device.
I expect far larger enhancements in usability. Further enhancements to ICS social network integration. Better syncing and integration with google drive (camera syncing). Maybe Google Chrome integration.
Sounds like the bulk of the focus will be buying from Google directly (maybe all carriers?)

Hi Guys,
atm the Google I/O is running. My question is, wether Jelly Bean will be available for the HTC HD2?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english
Greetings
I think we'll have to wait until the code gets released.
Then developers can start working on it and try to port everything from ICS to JB :fingers-crossed:
We need to be patient and should avoid to bug the devs with questions like "When will it be available for ..."
So lean back and enjoy ICS as long as no JB release is available
I'm sure it will happen very soon :victory:
Ah okay thank you for the hint and explanation
I've watched the whole Google I/O via Livestream and I'm glad if it will be released
That's a rhetorical question Of course.. This phone has shown that it can run practically anything we throw at it

It depends on what changes is made for jelly bean. Like if the drivers are mostly the same as ice cream sandwich (which is likely) then it is very possible we will have it on our phones in the future.

Merge will commence when source is fully downloaded; this means hours not minutes since people all over the world will be hitting these servers.
Do not expect nightlies to immediately be available for JB, we will have them up once we are content with where the ROM is.
As noted before, this does not change the plan for CM 9 - we anticipate an RC2 and then the stable release.
Big shout out to +Jean-Baptiste Queru and the rest of the Android team.

If they need a new kernel from Samsung, it'll probably take many many months, until official JB stock ROM gets released. Remember what happened with ICS on SGS2.
If current kernels can run JB though, it shouldn't take long. Maybe Project Butter related changes can take some time.

"The Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 are the devices that we expect to run Android 4.1 at some point in the immediate, or not-so-immediate, future. In case you happen to own any of these three devices, you’ll be happy to hear that Samsung Sweden has confirmed that all of them will get Jelly Bean in the coming months.
The Galaxy S2 will be updated to Jelly Bean at some point in November, while the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be upgraded in Q4 2012. Considering that we’re already in the fourth quarter of the year, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Galaxy S2 receive the update at some point next month, with the phablet and tablet to receive it after the handset.
According to Samsung Sweden, the Jelly Bean updates will be available over-the-air or via KIES, but we’ll cross those bridges once we get there. Needless to say that while Samsung may be ready to start releasing the updates, it’s still up to the carriers to issue them."
(Yes, I know there are many JB ROMs out there, but I am unsure if the Project Butter Source code is out for our GS2s)

I waited for months for the official Samsung ICS update only to find nothing much had changed in their ROM. Since then I have been on custom ROMs getting the true Android experience as Google intended it to be. Would definitely encourage people to root and flash custom ROMs (as long as they follow instructions and make backups). It's the way forward!

Why is it called the Jelly Belly '? It was supposed to be a lemon pie
Google just doesn't seem to decide how they will number things.
With gingerbread, they bumped the API and added features in a x.x.Y release. With jelly bean, seems like they fell in love with the codename, so it's jelly bean all the way for all releases. You used to be able to say "I got GB/ICS/JB" and people knew what you meant. Now you can have JB 4.1, 4.2, 4.3... what's the point of naming releases if you don't change the name?
*sigh*
Yeah... Looking forward for a release to Xperia Arc S
