Hey guys! I searched a little bit and found similar problems with other models about this issue, but no one knows exactly how to fix it..
Sorry if I'm being repetitive by posting this, but I'd really could use some help
My phone had a broken digitizer, that I changed myself to a new one. I haven't had any major issues since then. Except that sometimes, touch buttons weren't resposible at all, but that happened once in a week, or so.
Lately, I've been having problems with ghost touches, and now I have an entire dead column. Here I attach some Pointer Locations about this issue.
Ghost touches are usually made in a specific column. Dead zone starts from the vertical touch in the right area.
I read somewhere about the oven trick, to dry out any humidity it can contain and that It makes it work properly again, but I'm not really sure about doing that..
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
PS: I have no warranty

Hello,
I've recently been looking around online to figure out a solution to my problem and I came across this forum, I honestly had no clue of all of the things possible with this phone...
I have an At&t 8525 (in august I will have had it for a year) and just yesterday I started having problems with the touchscreen, when I would try to use the touchscreen nothing would be functional...after messing around on the screen I found out that the lower right hand corner of the screen (the right hand corner when the keyboard is in use) pulls up the start menu...although the touchscreen didn't work the phone itself still did, I could access the start menu and other actions on the phone by pushing the soft keys...
This morning I started toying with my phone again and it worked normally for some time and then eventually the screen started to do the same as it was doing before...so thinking that the problem was a virus or something, I figured I would reinstall wm6 back onto the phone hoping that it'd restore everything to normal...now I'm stuck on the 'welcome to windows mobile green screen' and only once have I gotten to the 'align screen'...
I truly don't know what or how to fix this problem with my touchscreen and I'm really new to all of these phone experiences...(I'm pretty sure returning the phone is out of the question)
So any help given would be very much apriciated,
-Ben

This is a loose connection between the main .. device and the touch screen . There is this cable that connects the screen and the keypad .. that has a loose contact. press the screen and the keypad together and the touch sreen should start working again . i had this same issue i don't know how to fix it.
Sounds like this problem here:

The above is an old thread. You can try the old business card trick (though it's by no means guaranteed to work). You could try a dis-assembly and reconstruction, double checking connections - particularly the screen to d-pad connection.
The Hermes unlike the Kaiser is very prone to this kind of problem and despite the threads you may see, guaranteeing a fix, I don't believe there is one fix for this problem. This is because there are several variables that can cause the problem and it just depends whether your case is caused by:
Dust trapped under the bezel
A loose connector - possibly d/pad to screen
A failed capacitor on d/pad or main board
Another failed component
Digitizer coming unglued from LCD
etc

Had the same problem right before EVERYTHING went white. Replaced the lcd altogether, about $110Aud on ebay, and everthing works great again.
Cheers....
Hey guys,
I just ended up with a g1 for a good deal. Only problem is that the touchscreen has a problem were it will shake back and forth between screens. I mean If im on the home page, and i slide it left or right to the other pages. It dances between the 2 for a couple for a seconds. Also I cant touch anything in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. So that brings me to my question. Since the glass is intact, that would mean that the digitizer is busted? As you may have noticed I really dont know. But if anyone could offer any help in my direction because I'd like to fix this myself. As Always...
Thanks in advance,
Lord CraiguS
Please i have the same problem. I would like to know thanks.
Same problem
As for me, this problem started when i`ve replaced the digitizer with a new one. It seems exactly the same as you described. I`ve noticed, that it dissapears temporary when i block the device (power button) and unblock it again. But sooner or later it appears again.
I suppose it is some internal bad contact in connection or in a flexcable of touchscreen.
However, not solved this problem yet.
Seems to be that i found a solution at least for my G1. I`ve installed a new CyanogenMOD 6.1.0-RC1 (i had 6.0.0 previously) - and the problem is not appearing for at least 2 hours!
I suppose it is somehow related with software handling of touchscreen taps.
Hi all,
My trusty blackstone has begin letting me down and I don't know if flashing a new rom will help, or if it is something physical that is breaking / broken. I'm using the Stonehenge ROM with CHT and everything has been fine for months.
Recently the touch screen allignment just seems to 'wander' sometimes just a little, other times quite a lot (so much that using the fake hardware buttons at the bottom of the phone, brings up the start menu). This means that intermittently I cannot answer calls, and typing a message on the SIP is an absolute nightmare!
The start menu icons do not seem to be as affected as the home screen and CHT, and I can quite easily get to the phone settings and recalibrate the screen - this will help for a short while but the alignment drifts again.
Restarting the phone has a temporary positive effect but it doesn't last.
Anyone else experienced this?
I have exactly the same problem.
Dissembled the whole device, blown some hot air but didn't help. Seems it's a HW fault. But I have a doubt whether the problem is in digitizer or in control board.
It's definitely one of the more frustrating problems that I've ever had with the phone.
I might try flash a new ROM then give up if that doesn't work. At least I won't be tempted to disassemble as it has already been tried, tbh I'd have just tried the tin of compressed air too, I don't trust my soldering skills for tiny electronics.
It is getting progressively worse, the touch area of the screen has slipped so low now that I can't use half the screen.
Screen Alignment Fix
Have a look on this one, maybe this will help you...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538113
Is there any possible way to recalibrate the Defy touchscreen? Lately, my phone has been plagued with a lot of "phantom touches" and it's driving me crazy.
Moto Defy w/ CM7.1
I think, I have same problem. link
The left side isnt work, and the touch screen oft times get crazy. (set up for oneself..)
Bad touch behaviour is 90% of time caused by a faulty Digitizer.

If there are ghost touches, then the digitizer is not working correctly. The Digitizer is the glass part of the screen that detects your touchs. Its not common, but it happens, that sometimes they just fail.
Some other phones like the first Batch of the HTC HD2 came with a funky Digitizer, which caused ghost touches, not accurate swipes and so on.

Hi All
i had the problem with the crazy ghost touches as many experienced here, it all
began with small ghost touches and quickly it deteriorated to many ghost touches
navbar doesnt respond, reboots and what not.
it all happened with stock rom and without root (as bought).
i decided to start from root>TWRPed>installing ROM (AICP).
didnt helped but!
i enabled the "pointer location" option that this ROM have and saw that at the navbar
line and at the midpoint of the screen there is no contact (no pointer location track).
So.
decided to replaced the screen, bought from AliExpress 50$ screen, changed it...
and vwhallla! it all started to work again!
i dont know what was the trigger for all this problems, maybe the car magnet that holds the phone? who knows.
hope it will fix your problem! :good:
