[Q] Custom Roms for Xperia Play

So..im very new to this whole "custom roms" scenario, ive read about CM7, and others, but am still quite confused as to what they are, how to install, or if theres even a custom rom out for the xperia play...could someone please help me understand exactly what a custom rom is, and how to install on my xperia play, thanks so much would really mean a lot to me - Kes

Bit harsh...you need to have an unlocked bootloader. Then download the CM7 from the development section and run the script. It's that simple!

[ROM] OaT's Light n Tasty: DISCONTINUED

Background
As a bit of background, I publicly posted ROMs on PPCGeeks for the HTC Touch w/WinMo several years ago. Since then, I continue to develop ROMs primarily for family and friends on the EVO4G, LG Optimus, Acer A500, and of course the HP TouchPad. After an initial testing period by a group of volunteers here at XDA (thank you, thank you, thank you), I have decided to publicly release this ROM. I hope you enjoy it.
Philosophy and Acknowledgements
My emphasis has always been on a very light and fast ROM that leaves plenty of room for one's own apps and customizations. My HP TouchPad ROM is based on a very stripped down KANG of the latest CM9 version (big thanks to Dalingrin, JCSullins, and all the other TPad devs that have brought this capability to us) that supports HW Video (meaning Netflix and HD YouTube) and all the other goodies you have come to know and love.
In addition there are also a few other treats thrown in, primarily,
the recently released QualComm adreno 2xx drivers,
the init.d tweaks published by Rohan,
the new ath6kl wifi drivers being incorporated into the 3.0 kernel,
the new HD Tablet launcher by the "Go" folks.
Big thanks to all the folks associated with these for their generosity in publicly providing these tweaks. Finally, I also employ a very stripped down version of the latest version of GApps that I will also link to. You can use the full version of GApps found elsewhere, but that will then somewhat defeat the intent of this ROM. The attached pics will give you some idea of what to expect. The benchmarks are all "typical" of the results I get on a non-overclocked CPU running at ~1.2GHz.
Updates
In terms of updates, I actually build the ROM and the kernel almost on a daily basis so my older AMD quadcore isn't tortured with having to handle an extraordinary number of new commits. But that doesn't mean I flash almost daily. It all depends on what looks significant, if I really want to try something new, or if I'm just bored . You can find out what's new in the below "News" section of this OP to find out what's the latest on my front.
Flashing and .apk's
Of course, all the standard cautions about doing the necessary backups (nandroids, titanium, or my backup) and the requirement for a complete set of wipes/formats (data, cache, system, dalvik) apply. Actually, I only find it necessary to wipe cache and dalvik between flashes of my own ROM. I also flash Gapps anew after each ROM flash. If you like experimenting with the other available ROMs, I advise a complete set of wipes and formats. And of course, you are flashing at your own risk.
Any .apk's included below need to be placed in the system/app directory with a rooted file manager, e.g. es file explorer, ensuring the permissions are the same as other .apk's in that directory, followed by a reboot. Unless, otherwise noted.

As I said in the OP, the emphasis is on lite that allows your favorite apps and customizations, not mine. In that vein, if bricked-kernal can be used on CM9, than it should be applicable to this ROM.

Wow! No wifi at all, ever? Have you tried adb'ing files from your computer into your tablet? Guess I could include a file explorer as an app that could be uninstalled, but this seems a rather extreme situation. Any others facing this dilemma?

All: At this point I feel I have a good number of testers so I am closing the open call for volunteer testing.
Testers: For those who got a PM from me with the download links, please download the files as soon as possible as I will be removing the files from the server later today. Finally, my sincerest thanks to all my volunteers and a gentle reminder to please provide some feedback when you are able.

Thanks for the encouraging words and thanks for the offer. I do build from source and early on included a file manager. I haven't lately as the taste for file managers among myself, friends and family changes routinely. I would only need to update that file and reactivate a few lines in the build script to get it back in.

so, i installed this rom this morning, came from [RC1.2] CM9 with Cornerstone, wiped cache and davlik, didn't wipe data or anything, everything carried over perfectly, and so far so good, youtube works hd also, the games i play work perfectly, been running smooth all day.
only hic-upsi had was videos on youtube site didn't load in chrome browser, and my wifi froze for literally 5 seconds. either than that, i've had no problems.
i'll report on how battery life is tomorrow, and which if any apps give me trouble, cause i like using a new rom all day, and see how battery life compares to a fresh recharge

can you add supercharger v6 ics to your rom please

[Q] Suggestions for a new ROM (to be introduced)

Hey People!! I'm new to XDA and this is my first post :silly: I'd like to introduce a new ROM. So basically i want to make something different for the galaxy y- the phone we've all loved to love! I want to have a redesigned launcher looking somewhat similar to the ICS ad Jellybean with softkeys like the one on ICS. It should be Deodexed rooted and have access to many other features (like pre-installed chainfire and stuff like that :fingers-crossed: ). Im planning on updating the stock kernel to the Merruk Technology Pre-final v2.0 as i've used it and it seems pretty fast and stable (I'm still waiting for the build to be final). I've a Init.d hack with battery calibration and also a hack which (I don't know how) decreases your ram usage haven't tested it yet but people who've used it says it works on stock rom too (which to me seems impossible because stock rom dosen't support init.d. Correct me if i'm wrong :highfive I've decided what to call it too. Now i only need some help which if anyone could offer would be truly amazing to me........

About bugs, first make the custom rom. If you encounter a bug, tell us and we'll be happy to help you.

Go to /data/app/ you will see all your apps there....
After getting those apk you can freely edit...

To OP: You also get the contents of this mod from XDA or any other kitchen and sources, imagine how if they don't share these useful information and kitchens..? You won't be able to release anything.

Ok my good people, I bring you an S7 International Port for our great T-Mobile Note 4. I am kinda new to the whole making a thread for a ROM so please be gentle. Ok so let us get started. ​
First things First, I am in NO WAY RESPONSIBLE if you brick, damage, break or simply blow up your phone! This is a custom ROM and will void your warranty!​
TWIZtd Rom v3.0
You Must be on EPE3/EPG2 baseband, on your N910T/T3​YES! It works with either baseband!​

This ROM was my personal ROM, I just decided to share my work so others can also enjoy the many mods that have been worked into this ROM. I am not looking for requests so don't make any. Again I am only sharing my work, based on what I like for my ROM and what I wanted in it. If there is an issue that needs fixing by all means, do report and I will try my best to help on the issue and fix it if possible.
Install Instructions
1. Copy TWIZtd ROM to your ExtSDCard
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik x3
4. Install TWIZtd Rom from ExtSDCard
6. Reboot and fully set up TWIZtd ROM
7. When done reboot recovery again
8. Flash TWIZtd Settings update
9. Reboot and enjoy!!!!!
11. Initial Boot Time is Approximately 10-15 Minutes so be patient. Hopefully you will enjoy my work!
Note! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While setting up the ROM this way solves many issues that the modded SecSettings app has, it will not solve all. The modded settings app is still buggy and can have errors on some things. More importantly, lock screen security does not work. Remember that please! The stock app also has no lockscreen security. The stock app is there so databases are generated for the modded app to use. Remember LOCKSCREEN SECURITY DOES NOT WORK!!!!!I am still working on this issue to try and get lockscreen security working. I have tried many ways and forms, but to no avail. I will keep trying and post the new app once this has been fixed.

The colors on my text in settings is white, what do I do?
If it is white it means you set up rom, installed the modded settings and have not opened TWIZtd Control. Open it and change colors of the text.

@JavixKGD Forgive me but lately very busy with updating of my rom for S5 and themes, and recently I Not read the PM.
Certainly you can use them always important credit. Then since you're one of the few that "" "He asks with education and respect", if you want a particular theme for your rom, tell me how you want it and you do it immediately.

Wow many thanks @Ufo71. Well I have always been very fond of the joker and his battle with batman. I remade the joker theme from the great pas, however if u make something like a dark twisted joker theme, boy would that make my day! Again many thanks friend for the permission and of course credit is going to be given, if u have time for the theme that is even better, but I know we are all busy here and this is our side project to be on XDA and we have a life after this, so if time cannot come up for that wont hold it against u. Many thanks friend!

NO WAIT, THERE MAYBE WE ARE GOOD HAPPENS. TOPICS MARVEL & DC COMICS OR OTHERS IN MY THREAD UPDATE BY ME . IF YOU WANT TO USE ONE AS THE BASIS TO MAKE YOU NOT A THEME NO PROBLEM. OR IF YOU DO I DO I DO NOT SAME PROBLEM EC. IMPORTANT TOPICS THAT I SAID "DO NOT TOUCH" THANK YOU

Ok, got it my friend, I misunderstood the first time but got it now. Ill be making one soon enough, but for now the ROM is very time consuming. Checking for bugs continuously and flashing a few times a day to test new things and methods is exhausting, but here we are pushing forward in the dev world. Many thanks for everything friend, keep up the good work in those custom themes that make me very very happy.

Hi Javix,
Any idea if this would work on the W8 Canadian Note 4? My sisters Note 4 is running a bit slow right now (or at least she keeps on complaining to me that it is lol). So I'm looking to install a fresh ROM on it. Thanks

Well give it a try friend, ive seen that OvrDriVEs roms always work on canadia versions so this one might too, I know tmobile N910T3 and W8 are like twins so maybe it will work as is. Also keep following my other thread here for more updated info on the rom.
