[Q] Help, MAGLDR - error 'nand kernel open failed' - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello!
I'm novice on HD2, and I meet a little diffuclty...
(I'm French, sorry, my English is not verry correct)
I install my Rom Native_SD for the first time (I chose this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224469
with :
Bootloader: MAGLDR v1.13
And Recovery: ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6.
After NativeSD installation, (everything seems correct) the phone reboot,
and on magldr I receive the following error message:
"Booting Android from NAND
Android load at 118000000
loading
yaffs2 boot is hand
Load zImage
nand kernel open failed"
An idea to help me?
I have probably forgotten a step...
When I choose installation : NAND with DataOnEXT
All is ok! The phone start on android, without default...
Thanks you for your help,
Jake

what is happening is, that when you install nativesd rom, you should use BOOT AD SD option from magldr. rom is not installed on nand. just make magldr use nativesd folder from settings and then boot AD SD to boot the nativeSD rom

Hey gilbert32, so we meet again ;D
At the moment I'm switching my HD2 devices - what is better than 2 HD2? Of course, 3 HD2
The first time, I booted the NativeSD Hyperdroid in my HD2. The touch screen went unresponsible. I got another HD2 from a buddy, flashed MAGLDR, put in the SD Card, set MAGLDR to boot from AD and was happy. Now I want to do the same trick on yet another HD2, just installed HSPL, falshed MAGLDR, flashed CWM 5.whatever, changed settings to boot from SD, put in the SD card and MAGLDR is telling me (in red letters): "SD kernel open failed".
What is the problem here, what is wrong, what is the solution?
I just reflashed the NativeSD ROM via the target device, it's still saying "SD kernel open failed"
Can this be cause by a wrong partition size on the new target device?

I think you could look at:
Wrong block size,
Wrong partition type,
Partition not set as primary,
Partition not set active
Use minitool partition wizard home.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

Thank you jvzijp, but the SD is still working on the first and second HD2 like a Charm. Put in the SD, boot from SD, be happy.
But I recognized: The third HD2 (if booted with an NAND ROM) is stuck on some kind of Hyperdroid loading screen while booting. Maybe it's a case of bad blocks and I should try to resize the partition, a few MBs more to compensate the bad blocks?
Edit : I forgot to tell you, the device that's causing the trouble was a virgin. Till yesterday it ran windows mobile from stock. And the screen is cracked but still fully functional.

Hi JackDCalloway
I too bought a virgin hd2, reconditioned but running stock or any custom wm6.5 rom such as Artemis and Energy ROM's fine. I only have the one HD2 but have had one in the past and was surprised that my original SD card that used to run Android from SD using Haret didn't work.
I've tried allsorts so far to work around the issue, it sounds like you have exactly the same issue.
Please tell me.. are you able to boot into recovery (any recovery!) as I can't either from MAGLDR or SD (using 4EXT Recovery and similar)?
I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this problem but am glad in a way that there is someone else with the same issue as me as I've been trying to resolve this for 2 months now and have spent many hours!

Stuck on "GO GO GO!" in AD Recovery.

I was able to successfully install CWM on one HD2 and is now running Android on it.
Well that HD2 the touch screen no longer work. So i purchase another HD2 and attempt to do the same, but once I install Recovery 150, I go to AD Recovery and I get stuck on "GO GO GO!" CWM won't load. Can anyone give me suggestion to what might be the problem.
What I have tried so far.
1. I reload HSPL3 to 2.08.HSPL
2. Flash Task29
3. Flash Radio 2.25.50.14
4. Flash MAGLDR 1.13
5. Flash Recovery 150MB
then when I boot in to AD Recovery I get stuck on GO GO GO!.
When I Flash 250 or 400 I get FATAL in red.
SO i attempt to flash the OEM T-MO rom it hang at 8% and crash. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can get into the bootloader fine.

first off once you do HSPL you don't ever need to do it again, and the radio you flashed was 2.15.50.14? once you flash the radio you don't need to reflash it again, unless changing to a different one.
Now I would suggest to start back at task29,
then MGLDR 1.13,
redownload the partition in case of any corruption,
are you using win xp or 7?
if on win 7 right click on the daf and run as admin.
I know there's not much difference from what you said but maybe you have a corrupted download and it's messing things up.
Try using the toolkit, it does a really good job:
[2 Jun 11][v3.9] HD2 NAND Toolkit - All in one Toolkit for HD2 NAND Users
I'm using windows vista & i tried the HD2 NAND toolkit still the same result. :/
so i gave the freezer cooling theory a try and it works. Now I got another problem on hand i can only use the phone no more than 20-30 min at a time before it locks up.

i'm having exactly the same problem, i'm trying to install android because if i install the stock rom it stucks at the htc logo an when i install android it works for a few minutes but then it freezes
i've searched on google for it and they say that it can be a overheating problem
It was a touchscreen issue when i had this error. I had replaced the digitizer but the ribbon came loose during repair. If, when you boot to the tricolor screen (hold volume down + power), you dont see cotulla hspl 0x40 or 0x50 you have a touch screen problem.

Hi jimani, welcome to the forum. Please provide more information about your problem, which recovery? what size recovery partition? What have you tried? Hspl?
The more information you can give, the more likely someone will know what your problem is.

Hi Robbie,
Actually I tried every thing:
At the first time it was a touchscreen issue, I replaced it and try to reinstall the android rom; i used the toolkit 4.3 to flash.
1.HSPL3
2.WIPE(Task 29)
3.Radio-Leo-2.15.50.14
3.MAGLDR 1.13
4.Repartition 280MB for system, 5 for cash.
But when I tried to go in AD RECOVEY, my phone stuck 1234 GO,GO,GO.
I perform this steps on two htc hd2( one is T-Mobile) but no success.
Please help.
Justin.
did you install hspl 2.08 using hspl3?
Which recovery have you installed and how did you install it?
Have you tried an sd recovery, booted from ad sd dir?

Hi Robbie,
Yes I installed hspl 2.08 using hspl3.
After DFT MAGLDR Boot loader is loaded I install the partition after that I go in ad recovery to load the Clockwork Mod Recovery then... stuck!
When I tried to boot from the sd card it's say : SD open kernel failed .
I don't know may be I'm mixing things. can you provide me a clear step by step doc?
Thanks in advance.
Justin.
Am at work now, have you tried using hd2 toolkit to install your nand recovery?
Else to use an SD recovery, you have to specify the folder that the zImage and initrd.gz files are in, using magldr ad SD dir, then boot from ad SD.

magdlr problem

hi there
i gave a problem with magdlr
i can not boot from android on sd?
its reboots before it boots up, or it will boot to the NAND rom?
when i choose AD SD..?
any help apriciated
Take a look at the thread for the SD card build you are trying to use to see if there are any special instructions to be able to use it with MAGLDR. I know some of the SD card builds require a different roof.img to be able to boot using MAGLDR. Also look for a readme file in the ROM that might have the needed information you are looking for. For example this quote comes from the American Android SD card build thread.
Includes optional rootfs.img that allows to boot build from magldr (!readme! in /sdcard/Android/SDMAGLDR)

Here is a link to the thread.
in mgldr menu go to 'services' then 'boot settings' then 'ad sd dir' then choose the directory of your sd android (which is bootable by mgldr as indicated in the previous post) after that you'll be automatically directed to the mgldr main menu. then choose 'boot ad sd' . booting takes longer than nand roms.
i have all that done
i am not noobish or what. but i dont understand this,
ive flashed wm back. and the sd build would boot up.
then back to magdlr. and the same thing again.. first time its rebooting.. second time it boots the nand rom.?
ive have some apps from my sd build in my nand rom? that is stranger than that all!
rooft img is replaced btw..
if i understand right, when you reboot you want your phone start by the sd build. in sd build thread look at 3 dak's MIUI rom's first post, there is an instruction for that. the second thing, i think is related to sd-ext partition, both sd and nand roms are using it so apps pass from one to the other.
ahh ok
ill try with a SD without an EXT partition..
lets see what happens then
i had putting an sd build @ a nokia 2 gb micro sd.. no ext partition
and i see the NAND bootscreen again ...
what could it be?
roofs.img is replaced, magdlr is correct configured,
a last recommendation, wipe nand build. first boot sd build from beginning then setup nand build. if it doesn't work it goes beyond me. sorry i couldn't help. i boot two sd builds in mgldr americandroid and 3 dak's MIUI and i haven't these kind of problems. good luck

If you want your SD card build to be the default Android you boot with MAGLDR, then from the main menu of MAGLDR go to option #10 Services/0ption #1 Boot Settings/option #1 Boot Source/ option #1 Android from SD. This will tell MAGLDR to boot the SD card build by default.
Sorry I can not be of any more help booting SD Android builds with MAGLDR. I have never done it before so I really have not researched it.
the problem stays....
very strange... i have eerlier running perfectly 2 builds of android on my hd2 ..
If the kernel from sd build is nand kernel like tytung r10 then when you choose ad sd from magldr it will boot into nand build.if you have wm or wp7 into nand, there is no problem
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
ahh that is the issue.. thnx mate
the SD build i use uses a tytung r10 kernel
now i must search to a another compatible kernel, anyone some suggestions?

[Q] Magldr no boot source

Someone please help me!! Before all i problems my phone kept freezing in boot and i tried everything by cleaning my sd, ad hard reset and changing builds and the same boot freeze kept happening. So after getting tired of that and having to hard reset everyday i eventually flashed TMOUS stock rom then after tried to do the magldr 113 isntall. do this...depending on the recommended recovery size (typically 5-150-5 for non sense versions) download a recovery from here ..then restart you phone...go into magldr...go to flasher...once the usb is linked to pc run daf.exe from the recovery (extracted folder)...u will then have recovery installed

Great ! I will try it out as well. I have been getting this error for the last few times. I am not sure why this happened.
I installed a WP7 rom and then went back to android (hopeless battery drain with my SD card ... not sure if I can ever do something about that). I could not get back to AD recovery.
Thanks again !

If you loaded WP7 it may have locked your SD Card - need to format in a Nokia phone. Or reduced the usable size to 200mb - this can be fixed with a partitioning tool from PC
when go back and forth between WP7 and Android the nand is overwritten ... thats why you loose your AD recovery.
REMEMBER - if you ever try WP7 and come back to Android dont forget youll need to task 29 (to clean out that nasty M$ dirt!), flash magLDR, flash recovery ( i usually stick with a 200 mb partition, as i usually run Hyperdroid, AND that way there are no worries about bad blocks), and then the rom.
although its not NECESSARY its recommended buuuut to avoid weird restarts, FCs, and any other random glitches that may occur down the short road ITS NECESSARY! :-D
good luck

[Q] Problems installing several different Nands - help please

I have successfully installed TyphooN_CM7_v2.9.2-cLK about 8 motnhs ago & been using it but fancied a change.
I am lucky enough to have two HD2's so decide to try installing another nand on the other phone.
I tried TyphooN_CM7_v3.7.0-cLK & DFT_LEO_NAND_Android both using Task 29 & using CWM with CM7 & the USB flasher (as per instructions on the page) for the DFT one. No luck with either they both install but I get an error "Process system is not repsonding" which won't go away with the DFT one & its just keeps booting into Magldr with the CM7. I have installed NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V2.9_NAND_(Android-2.3.5) which is working & installed fine but just can't get either of the other two to work.
I wanted the CM7 to upgrade the current Typhoon I have a wanted a Desire nand on the other phone as a change.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Help much appreciated
Thanks
Edit:
Following this thread for the CM7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
& this for the Desire nand http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
Till now you are used nand android ... so you have the important things (HSPL2.08, radio 2.15.50.14, MAGLDR).
And you installed NexusHD2-Gingerbread ... this means that everything is OK.
I think you can try to download the other things for CM 3.7.0 again.
I've had problems with installing when the .zip is corrupted or something ...
With the typhoon version I would check to make sure that you downloaded the magldr version and not the clk version as it is the magldr that you keep booting into. If you try installing clk to a magldr loader it will not load and just go into magldr loader. With dft one it is probably a bad download or perhaps it is that the rom is an older rom.
There is a lot solutions/problems. Which rom u try to install? Magdlr or clk?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Same here
I have exactly the same problem, the only zip NANDs i can install are NexusHD2-Gingerbread. All others install ok but when i reboot it states "Kernal Open Failed" If i install other NANDS via USB flasher they seem to install fine, but then i no longer have AD Recovery Clockworkmod, which is very useful for backups. I appreciate that this is an additional statement but i also have the issue of my phone rebooting 6-10 times a day, hence wanting to change my NAND for testing. I have today however made a complete re-install and using a different SD card, still can't load other ZIP NAND's though.

[Q] Help with NAND install! USB port broken!!

Well here is the problem:
1. My HD2's usb port is broken!:crying:
2. I am a native SD user, with MAGLDR but no AD Recovery installed whatsoever!
3. I had an Old BoyPPC DHD base sense 2.1 froyo rom on NAND(V23 i guess)(Since USB is dead, i cant flash ANYTHING!)
3. By mistake from 4EXT recovery for sd I did erase all partitions and now there is nothing on my NAND :crying::crying:
4. Now can i flash anything into the NAND space?? I dont know about the partition table of the previous rom or if even it had any!(In AROMA it shows NAND partition 299 mb and 297 mb free thats all i know!!)
5. I tried flashing tytung's 4.2.2 into NAND through 4EXT recovery for SD but i get bootloops!
6. In this scenario is there any rom that i can install on my NAND?ANYTHING!!??
Please guys! Help me with this!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
@srinivas2 as your usb is broken, how are you going to recharge the hd2's battery??
i assume you have a charger. moving on
you can download clk (or black clk as i prefer) and flash it via sd card method (rename the nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh). in black clk, you can change system partition size right from inside of it. link for download: http://www.mediafire.com/?nhyausx0p5whu#tzg7whl9wwaih
go to compiled test versions, and download one of the latest. preferably the one with Ex-TWRP. you unzip it, get nbh file, rename to LEOIMG.nbh (in capital letters, yes) aND PUT IT ON ROOT OF SD CARD (sd should be fat32 formatted and have a maximum size of 4gb)
clk thread for instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114053
Caution: NEVER FLASH STOCK WINDOWS MOBILE rom with your usb port broken, as you'll be stuck on it forever(or until you fix usb port) since flashing stock wm rom overrides hspl
now you have black clk installed. inside of it go to settings (of, to go to black clk menu, hold back button just after you turn the hd2 on), resize partitions, system, choose your size and apply.
goto recovery.
in ex-twrp recovery, make an ext4 partition on your sd (most probably you already have one). after downloading rom you want and changing system size in clk to the one mentionned in rom thread, flash rom in ex-twrp.
Done

Thanks for the quick reply @gilbert32 :good:
I got the tracks for power redrawn for the USB port on the MB(Complex procedure but a guy did it for me here in Mumbai ). Now It takes a long time to charge, but roms with fast charge ability(Like tytung NexusHD 4.0.4) does the job best!
Well if i install clk, im gonna loose MAGLDR right?? Cuz i have no experience with clk whatsoever and i am used to MAGLDR. And i have read there have been problems with Native sd methods with clk, thats why i never dared to try it! And once to clk, there is no coming back to MAGLDR as it has no SD card method!
Anyhow currently with the Native sd method im running Nexus HD2 4.0.4! Still Having nothing on NAND is a problem right? Cuz i have weird problems with heating up! When HD2 heats up, it dosent boot from SD, i always have to boot NAND then switch back to SD roms!
And yes, im never gonna do the blunder of flashing the stock WM!

First of all for thanks smash the thank button like i said in my sig
now regarding installing clk (black clk as i said, with included ex-twrp cz the normal 1.5 clk has no rec afaik), you will loose magldr. right.
and for installing with nativesd, it's very simple (rom should support clk btw, and most do). just in settings in clk, choose add sboot partition. this partition (5mb only) you will use to boot nativesd rom.
after flashing whatever nativesd rom, in ex-twrp (after creating sboot partition) go to advanced, nativesd manager, kernel update. touch sboot in the bottom to make sure it's selected, then choose the rom's folder from nativeSD folder on sd. Very simple.
when you want to boot nativesd not nand, hold the back button to boot to clk and choose boot sboot only. Very simple after you try
regarding installing stock wm, in some cases you may have to. then you will only have nativesd or sd android.
but you can still try custom roms (the have no spl flashing)
hope to help you
