This is a thread to share our thoughs on how would we like our next G2 device to be.
I would love another htc G1 sequel, I'm really feeling these new metal designs, htc keep it up. Would love a G3 with near the same design as the G2 and similar to the htc surround with an 3.8 screen, these are the 2 htc designs I love the most. Also the trackpad should be kept with the design, an 8 megapixel cam wouldn't sound bad either and the same hinge design, except with a loose one, make this one tight htc LOL. Btw I been hearing they fixed the hinge already in the newer batches this year not that I care but I been hearing that a lot.
So what you guys think?

I would love to have a G3 but in a 4.3screen and frontal camera and capable speed of 21mps...
I'd like it to print money, grant up to 3 wishes, be indestructible, and turn into a jet and take me to an island it builds.

Yea with the keyboard tho cuz a G3 without a keyboard is not a G3 LOL about the 4.3 I doubt it cuz if its a keyboard phone the screen wouldnt go as big as 4.3 especially htc, cuz imagine how heavy would it be lol and that's the only thing I dislike about the G2

Not a bad idea imagine if a phone could do that! Id be the happiest man on earth lmao
What about a completely metal phone? Absolutely everything, even the keys on the keyboard.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
To be honest. I think the G2 from a design standpoint is one of the best. My imaginary G3 would have:
The same type of aluminum design, but as thin as it can be
A Five-row keyboard (number keys!)
A front-facing camera for video chat
4 inch Super AMOLED 2 display (perfect size, not too big, but definitely not small)
A Dual-Core or Quad-Core processor (we should have Quad-Core phones by next year)
An upgraded rear camera with 1080p recording with a good audio codec (not the crap that comes in all HTC phones now that sounds like a metal in a washing machine)
Stereo Speakers (the iPhone has had it for years)
At least 16GB of internal memory (and of course an external microSD slot)
Thoughts? It sounds impossible, but by the end of next year (which would follow the G-Series' two year cycle), this would be VERY possible.
TBH I dislike super amoled I wish they keep the slcd on the G3 because its sharper than Samoled and proven to be. Only thing better is the blacks which are by far the blackest blacks I've seen on a screen but the colors are way too bright/vivid, reds look like they are bleeding.
Slcd colors are much more natural than Samoled
Samoled blacks are blacks not dark grey like on slcd
Amoled has ok color just a little too deep and unatural like the Samoled but better than Samoled IMO
Take a look at the comparison of the 3 and tell me that's not true

Talking about battery when do you think technology will be so advance that they'll make phones last days with full charging? Imagine a phone that can last 2 days!!! now that'll be nice
Better camera for low light.
more internal usable memory.
dual core
21mps or even by then 42mbps.
i don't use the track pad at all.
slightly bigger lcd.
maybe 1500 or 1800 battery capacity.( save us money from upgrading)
included sd card higher than class 2.
Who are we kidding its probably going to be another year till we see it.

I doubt that look at the mytouch 3g line the G2 series could easily get updated like that, but i would prefer to wait longer, makes you get more use out of the phone make it a more worthwhile purchase.

A five-row keyboard definitely is my own number one with a bullet. The four-row is maddening, given the useless www/com key, and lack of a hard pipe or gt/lt key due to repurposing for the lack of the number row and no way to remap that I've found so far. Using it to SSH into servers for remote maintenance is an exercise in frustration. Actually tempting to swap out for a Nexus S just for that, despite the cheap-plastic feel.
Front-facing camera would be great; a dual or quad core processor as well. Docking station pads and a magnetic sensor would be nice (as from the N1). NFC would be good for futureproofing, though not too useful right now. A better speaker on the back (at least a *bit* less tinny) would be nice... constantly concerned about blowing mine out if my headset drops connection during the middle of a loud music track.
Oh, and a wifi antenna design that doesn't drop 30dB off the SNR when you hold the left side in landscape mode.
I would like the next HTC device to have 8 cores running at 10 zetaherts each, 10 zetabytes of RAM, 10 GTX 485's in SLI, have download speeds up to 4 zbps and have the magical ability to turn into a giant spaceship.

Hopefully it'll have @ least a 4" screen, way more memory & a better hinge system. Most likely it'll have dual core processors so it should be interesting.
Sent from my CyanogenMod powered G2.
everybody wants it to be faster, bigger (memory), better. But I didn't encounter any slow downs within apps with the g2/desire-z. So faster and bigger isn't one of my priorities. I would like it to be faster, more memory and stuff but the biggest problem I have with the current g2 is the battery life. Everything is fine and adequate but the battery life is terrible. I can not use the phone as much as i would like because of the battery life. When i travel (3 hours round trip) i can not use the phone for the full 3 hours because of this but i would like to. They should build a phone and a battery that can withstand 10 hours of intensive use on one battery cycle. I would like that a lot. or at least double the battery life. Then it would be adequate.
despite of it's faults, i still love my desire-z, I used a lot of different phones, Iphone 3g/4, samsung galaxy s, desire, but i like the desire-z way better..
Hi friends. It's been a hot topic as you all know Samsung new flagship was announced yesterday. Frankly speaking, it was a overhyped phone and was the most anticipated one of the year. And unfortunately it disappoints me & many others.
Pentile Display in the flagship device is just the heck of a decision. A 4.8" HD Display should've had super amoled plus display rather than a pentile one. HTC ONE X has a true HD IPS SUPER LCD2 Display that feels a lot better.
The design is the major letdown for me. The shape isn't that good for a phone when I put this against One X. Yeah the phone is slim making a difference of 0.3mm but the entire shape didn't appeal to me much.
Made of polycarbonate same as One X but with hyperglaze that makes it more glossy and yes LET'S FACE IT; it looks cheap.
The battery isn't a difference to me. SIII houses a 2100 mAh battery and HTC ONE X has a penta-core chip making the phone to last long with a 1800 mAh battery.
SIII Camera app, S Voice are innovative and are as good as HTC ImageSense Chip and Beats Audio Integration in HTC One phones. (Camera may be a few steps ahead in One X)
New Touchwiz UI is like more of a gingerbread look rather than ICS. The true and real ICS UI would've been much better in SIII.
*Whatever the quadrant shows is not reliable. It may smack down One X but you've got to admire the build quality and UI and especially the shape and design of HTC ONE X.*
Important Note:
Buy the one you like. Admire the one you think is the best. At the end of the day the BEST phone is the one which is in your hand.
It's just a bit of comparison and talks we gonna do here. No offence whatsoever!
*I don't own any of these two devices. It was a gentle comparison and everyone has the right to have an opinion.*
Would love to listen from you people.
THANKS.
Htc one X has a poor design. Check Engadget were they are put side by side. One X looks plastic. S3 has that premium feel with the metallic surrounding. The UI is def superior to the one X too. The S3 is a sleek phone

Following the very disappointing announcement of the S3 I gave up my S2 And bought a HTC one x. The only drawback is the battery life and major pro is the LCD2.
Very disappointing !!!
The S3 have sd-card and removable battery (possible to better battery in future), thats enough to buy it instead of One X
32gb on One X. Same as the s3. seriously people you telling me you are going to fill that storage up and use more with external sd cards? sd cards are so 2011 just messing. both great phones. cant we all just get along
but seriously guys. both phones have beautiful designs. but s3 looks like the child of the galaxy note and GNEX after getting together on a night out
I hope the "Next Nexus" has a non pentile display...
Im already dreaming of the specs... which kinda makes me sad because it will probably be a let down just like the S3.

I prefer the look of the s3 and once every one starts rooting the s3 is gonna be the top phone on performance anyhow isnt it.The battery and sd card are the winners for me and as for the screen isnt the screen on the hox having loads of problems with clipping and stuff?Maybe this is why samsung went with a older screen?
For me, the design of the SGS3 is better than the OneX
The screen is moot, its way beyond my ability to discern anyway.
Being able to take spare batteries/spare SD card on holiday to shoot video/watch movies etc... makes the SGS3 way better than the OneX
Finally, the sexy new staying on if you are with your device, or auto dialing if you lift it to your head after reading an sms, is logical, simple, but brilliant.
One horse race IMO... and NO custom roms to mess up the Samy apps for me!!
Mark.

Isn't SGS3 all plastic like SGS2 ?
I will wait for the Sony or Iphone in the summer.
This is my personal view, it looked right downer to me, the Samsung Galaxy SIII smartphone is one big very ugly beast, it also cheap plastic again.
When Sony already launch a Sony Xperia with 12 meg pixels with launch smartphones in summer with 13 & 16 meg pixel. Samsung stuck with 8 meg pixel, this is massive surpried since this is 4.8 inch in size.
I will wait for Sony or Iphone or buy the Sony Xeperia S in the summer.
A massive disappointment.

The Xperia S has 2011's hardware except from the camera and the screen ( snapdragon S3/Adreno 220. WTF Sony? ). I don't think the GS3 is that ugly. It's just the ONE X is too beautiful and classy!
i think raw material of Samsung low quality when compare with Apple.
For me personally, the important thing about a sdcard slot isn't the total amount of memory, but the ability to wipe my "system partition" completely.
Like on my PC, I like to keep my photos, videos, music and other pers. data on a physically seperate "drive".
That's why HTC is no option for me, regardless of the other specs.

Really? What is so high quality about something that breaks when you drop it?
OP, you will get hell flak if you don't change the title
HTC steals the show, oh come on! Samsung are hardware manufacturers, they know the stuff!
And people debating over plastic and metallic finish, please throw your phone in the air and tell me which lives to tell the story? eh!
GSM Online PL just uploaded a video of the Galaxy S3 next to a HTC One X
You can see the diference in the build quality of the main body, i also noticed a the One X to be a little sluggish when moving through the menus, not as fluid at least.
Hearing other people's disappointment, i was disappointed too. However alot of the things people were complaining about I really don't see a problem.
Yea the htc one is a nice looking phone with a nice build. But so what's if the gs3 plastic? I remember numerous complaints about the gs2's plastic and how "cheap it felt". But look how light and thin it was. And check the drop test vs other phones as a result of this lightness. Now the design can be a little better i guess, but who cares it most likely is going to be in a case so it only matters how good the case looks.
The screen? I would rather a none pentile screen, but at 720 resolution I doubt I will be able to tell, and it being a super amoled screen i'm sure i'll love it.
Another benefit to this "dreaded plastic" to me is the removable cover. That is a big factor that would deter me from the htc one. I love being able to use a ext sd card and a removable battery is great too.
I'm not sure about the processor, but being a exynos I'm sure it will beat the tegra 3, in terms of performance and with a smaller architecture battery i bet too. Now me being in the States I'm sure we will unfortunately have a different processor than the international as the htc one does with the lte version. That to me is unfortunate.
And lastly, I'm sure that it will have a unlocked bootloader which alone would be reason enough for me to pick the gs3 over htc one.
If I still have the funds this year after getting a tablet, I'll most likely be getting the gs3. If funds don't materialize then there is always the next nexus or gs4.
Hey dudes,
I had to post it! I saw the HTC One max and I don't know what to think. I am impressed.
First idea was to sell my Z1 and buy the One Max which have 3300mha battery, microSD slot and 32gb internal storage. 1.7ghz quadcore processor, which will drain less your battery, finger scanner and more..
Most important, huge developing section, this is very important.
The only one thing stop me to choice HTC One Max over Z1, 5.9 inch screen FullHD! For me is to big but the hardware is impressive.
HTC One Max do not have a fantastic camera but I think still make a good pictures anyway.
I think is a huge challenge between this two.
What is your opinion?
Yes hardware very impressive but for me it's REALLY TOO BIG.....very good phablet anyway

SD800 in Z1 is more power efficient than SD600 used in HTC ONE MAX when running the same speed. but at their current speed 1.7 sd600 vs 2.3 sd800 they use the same power according to Qualcomm. So if you really care about battery, you can under-clock your Z1 to 1.7 and it will be more power efficient than HTC chip running the same speed. Don't forget that if you switched you will downgrade the GPU as well (from adreno 330 to 320 which will have an effect on the performance and game experience)
Additionally, I think that extra 300mha can't compensate for the extra 1 inch in the screen size.

regarding development, Z1 issue with unlocking the boatloader was just resolved by sony few weeks ago, its like the phone was released then because no-one was interested in developing or even flashing for the Z1. Therefore, the HTC ONE MAX had more time to develop for, which might change with time, though nothing is guaranteed.

Wait for follow up to htc one or any other in the 5-5.2 inch form factor.
IMO better wait for next flagships before jumping ship...
HTC one max is on early last years hardware architecture S600... it may not be that bad now, but 6 months down the road, you will feel quite left out...
3300 mah battery with 5.9 inch screen is not much different than 3000 mah with 5" screen, specially after the 4.3 update on Z1 which further increased our battery time 10-20%... doubt it will surpass battery life time of Z1
Finger scanner... LOL... trust me this is horse [email protected] more than half of all the Iphone 5s owners I know do not use this function... and trust me it will not work on HTC one max, you will most likely turn it off...
end of the day, like I always say, it is your money, what ever makes you happy is what matters...
If you want to go htc and don't want a huge pocket-ripping device then wait for the successor of the Htc one

I love my Z1, at the moment is back to Sony for repair the issue with touch screen and if I get back a fully working Z1 I don't really care to jump to HTC but the Max has something interesting, maybe if they will do same features but with a 5 inch screen or less I will go for it.
Or depending where you're based tried to get the Z1S (that Tmobile have) which is 32Gb onboard plus the micro SD slot, jammy sods.
I have to manage onboard memory, as I bought several large title games when I had the One X, which I didn't finish
The Bards Tale, GTA VC and Horn to name a few. I don't want to install all of these on my Z1 (which isn't rooted) as I'd be on low memory fairly soon

Because many users sent back the phone to Sony for the same problem and then they get the new device with the same problem again.
If the HTC ONE Max has the same processor as the HTC ONE, and i belive it has, i can only say, that it is NOT as quick as the Z1...
The feel you get from the Z1 is that it can do anything you can think of without any problem, the feel you get from the HTC ONE is that it is only just big enough to not bother you too mutch...
There are some nice things about the HTC ONE, my own is the Dual Sim version, and tha is really the only reason i bought it...
But to be hornest, the ONLY thing i think is better on the HTC ONE, is the two front speakers, and the Dual Sim...
All the other is Z1 leading by far...

Pros:

2.1GB more ( which i dont belive is really needed because the g4 is already working smooth)(+0.5)
3.finger print sensor(it might have more use on Android 6 but i dont use a password or pattern or anything on my phone so i dont really need it...)(+0.5)
Cons:
1.Same battery size + bigger screen + same resolution + secondry 2 inch display + same chipset = lower battery life (-1)
2. i am finding it really hard to handle with a screen of ~ 5.9 its just too big to be compared with the G4 (-1)
3.this phone is heavy! (192g) ( not going to score it, might not bother other people)
so in the end we got 1+0.5+0.5-1-1 = 0 which means that i am not going to upgrade
there is the material but i will put a case on the phone anyway so... i dont care about it.
and the gorilla glass 3 vs gorilla glass 4 and here again i put a good screen protector so ....
if you are going to use the phone naked than v10 is the winner if not the g4 is because ( you and i already got it)

i really dont think its worth it unless you want bigger phone....
i think the maximus size i can handle is 5.5 beside that..
here are my thoughts on it:

I do agree with a lot of what you said. I don't care for a finger print scanner, which I'm actually against. I do like the video recording features the 64gb of storage and the materials. I do like that it has better manual noise cancellation with the three mics. The second screen is okay we'll see if it's actually useful or a gimmick. I do like the slightly bigger display, and the weight I kind of like because it gives me a better firm grip in my opinion. My hands are a little strong for the G4. I'll have to go to Tmo and play with it and see when its available in the US.
It sure looks nice, but since it's basically just a "more premium"-version of the same phone/hardware - and the stuff that makes it "more premium" are things i dont care about at all. ie. selfie stuff, fingerprint...
G4 is my first android phone and my first LG, V10 isn't going to change that. LG G5 or G6 perhaps =)
Biggest plus still - G4 is sooo much cheaper. Getting a real flagship for much much less money than any of the competitors, that's what i call 'premium'!

I can hardly recommend this phone to anyone who already has the G4... It' a minor upgrade in some areas
and even a downgrade in others IMO. I guess that's a matter of opinion... The only two things i am hyped about
are manual video controls and sound control (nevermind the 3 mics on V10, 2 mics can get the job done).
I believe that the G4 will get these features in near future (probbably with android MM which is set to
arrive early next year) because V10 uses the same camera sensor as G4.

By the time the G4 gets M the 5 will be coming out. I've been reading about it all morninmg and I think I like it. It's definitely sexy AF from appearance. I am seeing some of the flaws it has like with the second screen. Idk I had the G2, G3, and now the 4. I never got bored with the G2 and 3, but am already losing my appeal with the G4. Don't get me wrong it's better than anything else imo right now, but I am starting to want something different than what everyone else has.

The getting out of the car way is how I've broke any phone I've broke. If it lasts past that I'm good..
premium build material + removable battery = yes please!

That is what it all turns on.
No idea on price of the v10 but they are quoting ip6s+ prices. 64gb and 1 extra for ram isn't going to be cheap.

the size is what bothers me. 5.5 is already pushing things with a case.
Suddenly my brand new phone just felt outdated

Just what I thought too!
The LG V10 looks like an awesome phone but I'll stick with my awesome G4 for a while though.
Lol. I was thinking about this newer phone. It looks really nice! But there really isn't any "improvement" over the G4 except for the memory. Otherwise, it's the same screen resolution, technology, camera, UI. I mean, I love my G4! It's probably one of the best phones I've owned! But for me to sell this one, and buy the V10, I would need at LEAST a better camera, or ... HUGE battery... Or... I don't know. A stylus? I want the larger screen. But selling this one, losing some money, and dishing out a premium price for the SAME device except a tiny bit larger is out of the question for me. If they had only put in 4,000 mah I would have found it enough to get! haha.
Edit: Oh I know there are LOTS of improvements like the fingerprint scanner, and secondary screen and 2 selfie cameras.... But these for me a little things that don't make ANY difference to me. Camera, battery, screen size, these are huge deals for me. That's why I say that there wasn't really any REAL improvements FOR ME. But it is a great phone with a lot of good specs and cool ideas! But just not enough for me to sell my G4 and buy the V10. Especially without knowing the European price tag yet! haha.
i want the V10 camera app just for the sake of that video features but i guess we will see a version for the g4 as soon as the v10 is available and someone from xda gets it
I hope manual video ported for G4
I hope we can deactivate the OIS, we can do with ProShot app. But the OIS of the V10 looks way better !
There is an LG V10 forum now if you wish to continue this discussion there
At the very least we have an idea what the G5 coming out next year will look like. It will be more premium looking and feature a replaceable battery. Weight wise, proper case + g4 is 185-190gms anyway.
So they can make premium looking and replaceable battery after all. Who knew

Who knows. Samsung came out with the premium Note 4 with SD card and replaceable battery. Then they came out with the S6.... Lol of course I hope LG doesn't go that way.

True but samsung has always had a bad case of apple envy.
Can you say the same about LG ?
where i live people don't even know that LG makes phones, they think LG makes fridges, tv's or washing machines
Any one played with a standard xz.
Been offered one not sure if its a downgrade
Extreme downgrade. Sony phones are garbage with the worst screens I've ever seen.

I should add, processor wise it's better but I've owned several Sony phones and all were really horrible phones
Had the z2 years ago and seemed okay not owned one since and was unsure how they are

The screens alone make me want to vomit in my mouth
960fps slow motion sounds interesting and also the video stability seems much better.
Probably unpopular opinion, but you know what? I'd take the Sony.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Nexus 6P. I've loved all my Nexus phones since the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but given the chance I'd change it up.
Like you mentioned, the camera is pretty awesome. I also like that you can upgrade the storage up to 256gb with SD cards. I miss those things so much and I've got about a dozen of them from old phones just laying around. It also has the 820 in it, which is nice. Dual front facing speakers which is a huge plus for me. Adaptive charging seems pretty interesting as well. The icing on the cake for me would be the native PS4 Remote Play support. No need for root in order to use that.
IDK, I used to root my phones and mod the crap out of them, but since Android M / N, I'm finding myself making less and less modifications to the phones. I'd be using ROMs with all the bells and whistles, but now I just use a stock based ROM with maybe 1 or 2.
I guess it depends what you want to out of it. I'd check out the development forum on XDA for the phone and see if it has enough going on for you.
As far as the screen goes, that's highly subjective. The Nexus 6P uses an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen @ 1440x2560 551ppi. Sony XZ has a IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen @ 1080x1920 424ppi. Some people just prefer AMOLED and some like LCD better. It's pretty much always been an ongoing battle between smartphone users. The bandwagon fans from either side are almost as bad as Android vs Apple itself, honestly. Best to try to go to Best Buy or some other retailer and see if you can play around with one. That way you can decide how you feel about the screen in person before you make a decision.
Both have 3gb RAM. Xperia does have a smaller battery 2900mAh vs the Nexus 6Ps 3450mAh. However it is a smaller phone and the display isn't as high resolution as the 6Ps. It also features the adaptive and quick charging, not to be confused with our rapid charging.
Software is almost stock Android at this point as well.
I'd say watch this video;
Go try to play with one I store and see how you like it, but I definitely would not immediately dismiss it as a blatant downgrade. Not at all.
Please keep discussion civilised, no arguing or foul language!
