Hello All,
Merry Xmas.
I have just been comparing my brothers streak and mine, it appears that our camera interface is different. We are both running o2 Official Froyo, the only difference being that I have root.
Our interfaces look the same on the right hand side of the screen (ie all the options), however on the left hand side of the screen I have another bar the same colour as the right hand side, this bar has no options on and serves no real purpose other than hiding half of my visible picture! Is there a way to remove this, or a 3rd party camera app to install that has more features, options or anything more to offer.
Also, I see that 720p has been enabled on this update, is it enabled by default and does it increase your standard picture quality or just normal video? Again is there anything that I can do to improve quality or the delay time from pushing the capture button to taking the shot?
Thankyou all in advance and Happy New Year!!!!
If I am not mistaken. The 720p only affects your video.recording and not actual picture resolution. There is a setting for that under the camera option.

Hi there,
Is there a guide available for the SGS2 camera? i received my device with no guide of the camera and I really want to know about "beauty shot", "action shot" (which im having a hard time getting useful shots with) and "outdoor visibility" which seems to brighten up the screen but not the resulting image.
anyone can shed some light onto those features and maybe post decent "action shots" made by him?
thanks!
Have a read through the attached manual. It does talk about the camera modes that you mentioned, as well as lots of other stuff.
Hope it helps
thanks alot man!
i still would love to see some "action shots though" from other people
"Action shot" just means high shutter speed to freeze action, it's also called "sport mode" on some point 'n squirt cameras... Not always the best way to shoot action actually.
Outdoor visibility is so that you actually have a chance to see the screen when taking pictures in bright sunshine for example, it doesn't change the picture.
I just wish they'd put fully manual controls too, I hate using the pre-set modes...

you are not right here my fried.
action shot is some kind of a panoramic shot (am i confusing options here?) that involves the camera tracking an object across a certain area while it is moving.
it also takes a few shots and not just one.
Ok so high shutter speed combined with multiple shots and possibly some kind of focus tracking (though that last bit would surprise me in a phone camera - will check it at some point!) As I've said, I'm not a fan of pre-set modes, they never quite do what I want! I'm a photographer btw so I'm just used to shooting in manual, including motorsport, I'm not sure I even know how to put my cameras in auto lol

Edit: actually it *is* different to the sports mode (which is under "scenes") - my bad. Not quite proper focus tracking though, you have to follow whatever it is that is moving and then it combines the shots into a single picture quite clever really. Will have to try it for fun though my usual test subjects (the cats!) are asleep right now.
Edit 2: had a play... it's a bit weird you take the first shot, then follow the subject and the camera takes more pictures as and when 1) it has decided that you've moved enough (like with the panorama mode) and 2) thinks that whatever you're following is in focus (it failed a bit on that point tbh). That's what I don't like about auto-stuff... camera decides when it should do something, which isn't necessarily when I want it to do it. It is quite fun though. More testing needed have all day free tomorrow so will do it then
Right, best result so far... Not great tbh, I've found that if the object moves too slowly, pictures don't get taken because the camera doesn't realise it should; if the object moves too fast then the focus is a bit hit and miss. Then when it does manage to do what it should you have the problem of [ insert swear word of choice] auto exposure so in the attached pic you can easily tell where the pictures are joined.

I upgraded from the Galaxy S to the Galaxy S 2 a few months ago and realized the stock camera app does not come with panoramic shot anymore. Been using another app for this but it is not as seamless or smooth as the built in function with the original Galaxy S. GS2 also has less shooting modes (for one the add-me function, it used to be a lot of fun adding random objects to the photo without post edit). I'm now very tempted to buy the Note as that was the phone I intended to get instead of the GS2 - but does the Note have the panoramic shot built-in with the stock camera app? Also the flash on my GS2 seems harsh (blindingly bright) which I'm sure I can tweak if I know how (if you can educate me know that it would be much appreciated), does the flash on the Note go as bright? My work phone which is a HTC Desire HD has a similar flash but it is not as bright and the photos come out better...
Thanks in advance!
The stock app on note has panoramic mode.
The note I feel takes better pics then sg2 even though the hardware is same

Stock app is better than all others ^^
I've tried Camera 360, FX Camera and many others...

What are you talking about... the Galaxy SII does have a Panoramic function. I've just checked mine and it's there.
I also checked mine and I have Panorama, it's in the options and not just a simple flick of a button! You need to hit the options, and then shooting mode then select Panorama. SGS2 stock rom!
I can't wait for my Note!
Does note's stock camera app have time laps mode?

I can't prove it since I sold my SGSII, but somehow I have the same feeling the Note takes better photos. Quick pics I took to test its details: http://imageshack.us/g/546/20111219094914w.jpg/
(warning: large files)
I looked for the panoramic mode before under options and I can swear it wasn't there. I went and bought a pano app and have since rooted my phone and now found the panoramic mode in my stock camera app after a comment above!
Thanks for pointing it out

I would like the panoramic mode if it didn't lose so much resolution, i think you can get beter results by taking the photos in normal mode and use some Panorama software to make the photo.
Hi folks,
Just bought my new Black Galaxy S4 (I9505) yesterday and enjoying every bit of it, but camera has been a great disappointment. I'm not sure why but the camera has some really bad lag. So much so, I have started thinking that S4 has some sort of issue with camera. I tried searching on the interent, and could not find any other complaints on S4's camera shutter.
Is there anyone else having the same issue? Let me explain the issue; when I take a picture on Auto mode (or any other mode), there is a lag between pressing the camera button and when the actual picture is taken. That is probably understandable due to auto focus (?), but most of the pictures come out blurry. Also, the frame I see in the view finder is not the same as the actual picture. I mean, the subject in the frame at the time of when I see the picture has been taken, does not come out the same when I look at the picture itself. I'm no camera expert so trying my best to explain it well. I have disabled every sort of fancy features in my camera, as well as the whole phone (air gesture, smart screen, etc) (although I'm sure that has nothing to do with the camera performance) but still the issue is still there.
Any suggestions on how to make it better. I take quite a lot of pictures and have been doing it on my S3 without any major complaints. In fact, I love SGS3 camera, and upgraded to S4 thinking it'll have a better camera, but that's not my experience till now.
Thanks!

Menu, settings, about, software update. See if you have an update. There was one last week and part of it was an upgrade of the camera software I think.

Thanks for the reply! I did upgrade the software as soon as I connected my phone to wifi. I think that was the only update ever since S4 launched. Any other suggestions? I do believe that this is not a common issue, I read some camera reviews and everyone seems to be praising the shutter speed, so they must be talking about a different camera than what I have
i have the same issue, i have newest software, just updated by ota. when i press sutter button i have to wait one second for picture is actually taken... so big lag, with s3 it was instant - zero shutter lag.

That's it! That is what I am experiencing. Not sure how to fix it. If you find anything, do let me know. I'm also looking around and trying different settings. My S3 had a super camera with no lags and pictures come out crisp, that's not what I'm getting with S4.

Is the delay there when you use the voice command?
At least I am not alone. Thanks to everyone who replied. Can someone disable "auto night detection" in camera settings and see if it makes any difference? I tried changing this setting and do feel some difference but cannot tell for sure. I have seen that when you take a picture in dark and when auto night detection is enabled, shutter speed is a lot faster than usual.
I am hoping we'll find some answer within the existing phone/camera settings and dont have to hack the camera, or in worst case, change the phone.
Thanks!

When focusing instead of letting the phone do it tap screen let it lock on then take the picture, I've had no problems using the camera on my phone pics have come out sharp.
But i do agree the camera software itself still needs abit of work doing yet, this will more likely get sorted out in future updates.

I see no difference between manual tapping and auto focus. The problem is still there. Thanks for the reply anyway.

Same here! I took quite a few pictures today outside in sunny weather and was very disappointed to see some blurry shots. Never had any such complaint from S3 camera. This is very disappointing. I hope samsung do something about it.

Also, your hand has to be VERY still to take pictures that are in focus are not blurry. Rather disappointed as the software is absolutely awesome.

Complaining here won't help - you all have to spam Samsung with lots of emails.
This is not something that is going to get fixed with a software update, maybe improved but not fixed. Having a 13 MP camera using tiny lens and sensor will inherently cause a situation where it takes longer to gather a sufficient amount of light, hence longer exposure times and slower shutter speeds. This is the price to pay for being able to capture lots of detail out of a tiny camera. The S4's camera should not be used to capture moving targets.
Hello
Do any of u know good app that allows to take screen-scroll capture from another app?
I got installed one gym app and i have excersizes there listed and want to take screen capture while scrolling down.
As it has many excersizes listteed so have to scroll down a bit.
Is there app that allows to take screen scroll capture pictures?
This is a feature on the note 5 that we might see in Android 6.0. I'd love to have it.
