I upgraded from the Galaxy S to the Galaxy S 2 a few months ago and realized the stock camera app does not come with panoramic shot anymore. Been using another app for this but it is not as seamless or smooth as the built in function with the original Galaxy S. GS2 also has less shooting modes (for one the add-me function, it used to be a lot of fun adding random objects to the photo without post edit). I'm now very tempted to buy the Note as that was the phone I intended to get instead of the GS2 - but does the Note have the panoramic shot built-in with the stock camera app? Also the flash on my GS2 seems harsh (blindingly bright) which I'm sure I can tweak if I know how (if you can educate me know that it would be much appreciated), does the flash on the Note go as bright? My work phone which is a HTC Desire HD has a similar flash but it is not as bright and the photos come out better...
Thanks in advance!
The stock app on note has panoramic mode.
The note I feel takes better pics then sg2 even though the hardware is same

Stock app is better than all others ^^
I've tried Camera 360, FX Camera and many others...

What are you talking about... the Galaxy SII does have a Panoramic function. I've just checked mine and it's there.
I also checked mine and I have Panorama, it's in the options and not just a simple flick of a button! You need to hit the options, and then shooting mode then select Panorama. SGS2 stock rom!
I can't wait for my Note!
Does note's stock camera app have time laps mode?

I can't prove it since I sold my SGSII, but somehow I have the same feeling the Note takes better photos. Quick pics I took to test its details: http://imageshack.us/g/546/20111219094914w.jpg/
(warning: large files)
I looked for the panoramic mode before under options and I can swear it wasn't there. I went and bought a pano app and have since rooted my phone and now found the panoramic mode in my stock camera app after a comment above!
Thanks for pointing it out

I would like the panoramic mode if it didn't lose so much resolution, i think you can get beter results by taking the photos in normal mode and use some Panorama software to make the photo.

I'll tell ya, the quality of the camera on this thing is bad ass. Attached is a panorama I shot with it yesterday.
The original is really high resolution too.

Glad you were in such a nice place. I was wondering how you took such a good panorama shot? (was it a specific panorama app?)
nice shot.. i too am extremely satisfied with the cam on the nexus. care to share the app you used to take that panorama?
I too am interested in that app

Not sure if there's an app that can be used directly on the phone but there's many PC applications that can stitch together a series of photos flawlessly like this. But if there is one on the phone I'd be interested in it!
And that's a beautiful picture!
It's not an app on the phone. I just shot the photos then stiched them together with Windows Live Photo Gallery.
All you do is put your photos into the live photo gallery, highlight them all, right click and select "make panorama".
The optimized version doesn't do it justice, the original is 7500 pixels wide. Took a lot of other ski photos, it was nice not needing a separate camera - every photo came out stunning.
Looks fantastic! Is that with the Desire Camera, or the stock Nexus one?
This is the Desire ROM Alpha 21. I would assume that this is the desire camera app, although I've never seen the normal nexus app so I wouldn't know.
Thanks for the info. The stock camera is good... but the Desire camera is way more adjustable. So far the standalone Desire camera app that PaulOBrien ported for us is the only reason I'd consider rooting.
Everyone says the camera quality is one of the best features of the galaxy s but I think its pretty terrible. All pictures took look dark and don't look clear when you zoom in. Who else thinks the camera is poor on this phone
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
can't confirm that. As long as there is a good light, the pictures will turn out great. Compared to other 5mpx shooters I really like the Galaxy S one.
Yep i also like the quality in comparison to other 5mp cams. what suxx is that there is no led flash, but i think we all knew that before bying this phone
Btw did you adjust settings to fine and perhaps enable stabilization mode?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
and i do not recognize sgs1 5mpx camera as good - as said especialy when it is not much light pictures comes gradient - it is ok but still should perform better
i do not recal such on my goof old lost nokia n95 with its optics
same as with gps here looks like sgs1 was assembled from som low cost parts overall
that is why i am sceptic on sgs2 (tested it few times) and looking formward to 3rd revision of samsung look onsmartphone for masses =)
(sgs got gps chip not broadcom bot lirf or something like this that performs way better but camera still records/pics gradient in dark)

i dunno exactly cause im on cm7 and thus cannot look it up right now, but it should be somewhere in the settings of the camera app (you know where you can decide where if you want to save photos on internal or external sd etc.)

Are you viewing the pictures on the phone in gallery? Or in another app on your phone? Or on your computer?
The reason this is important is that when using gallery app, our phones only loads a half resolution version image (to make it easier and snappier to handle)! You can download other image viewer apps in the market that view the full resolution on phone and therefore allow better zooming in to the resulting images.
Also the pictures therefore look better on the computer too, as this also using the full resolution on the image.
So, your problem might be more the gallery app at fault rather than the camera itself. Do some tests of your own to see if this is true.
I am no expert on this topic, but I remember reading this somewhere, and my tests confirm it appears to be true! (YMMV!)

I'm sure that you must have some of the settings wrong on the camera App, because I have loaded pics to my computer, cropped the unwanted portion and printed on A4 paper. The resulting print was as good as I ever get with any 5mp camera.
I have also sent both pictures and video to my 55" TV screen from my SGS, using Allshare, and the quality is on a par with HD TV.
I agree that you get more versatility with a dedicated camera, but you've got to remember that the SGS is a phone with a camera as an accessory, not a camera that makes phone calls.
Finally, why do people complain about the lack of LED flash, at best, it's only useful up to a metre, but we all knew that the SGS did not have LED camera flash before we bought the phone.
i remember my good old nokia n95 making pictures same quality - and that was 3mpx

It's good enough for me. Just make sure you are on 5mpx my phone likes to go back to 0.3mpx for some reason. oh and you should at least be on 2.2, heard that produces better pictures
Can someone tell me if the GS4 has a similar function like the HTC One (Zoe) that allows you to either take video or lots of stills
and go back later on and choose which you want to keep, rather when the photo is taken.
Thanks.
Rob.
Quick photos from galaxy s3 has been here some time. The phone will take many pics and you can choose the best. For video? im not so sure as I havnt had a chance to play with the samsung phones since the orignal back in 2007 or 8? -_-

as a serious amateur photographer, i find the stock camera app a bit basic for my taste so have been looking at alternatives. so far i've tried the free versions of "camera fv-5" and proCapture but settled in the end for "Camera ZOOM FX" @ £1.79
this lets me control ISO, provides steadyshot functions, voice-activated shooting, custom hard buttons, touch-focus, advance metering options, burst-mode and much more, including an amazing range of filters and image-processing options.
no stability etc. problems with my N4 as yet.
what's everybody else using?

but the phone is the one that is always on my person.
The picture quality is pretty crappy to be honest. Just saying. I envy my friend's Galaxy S3.

why's that? the h/w spec seems almost identical between the 2 phones.
i haven't found a camera so crappy that i couldn't get decent pics out of it somehow. the zoom fx app makes this easier than with the stock software.

That may be so but you have to try out the Galaxy S3 camera first. It shoots faster. The quality is better. It has video focus. The sensor is better. I even read reviews between the two phones and the Galaxy S3's camera was the victor. I had to try it out myself to see and evidently they were right.
I rarely use my phone's camera and I should start. Lol. I have used zoom fx and it's pretty good.

My Pentax K-5
But on my phone, I use either Camera360 if I'm lazy, or actually I do use the stock camera. It's just so smooth and easy to access everywhere, such as from lockscreen or from gallery or app drawer.
Random tip: I find that if you tap the place you want to focus and then quickly tap the shutter button (I generally use 2 hands for this), you will take the pic immediately upon focus lock, kind of like focus-trapping. I find that this method generally gives better focus, because if you hold the shutter button, it'll focus-lock and then because hands tend to be shaking/moving, proper focus is lost.
Have you tried the stock image editor? I was pleasantly surprised to find out it lets you adjust exposure, vignetting, contrast, B&W filters, tonal curves, saturation, etc! To be perfectly honest with you, since finding out about those settings, I haven't really used Camera360 unless it's for those special filters like "big-head mode" or "dreamlike" or whatever.
Camera360 lets you adjust everything you've described, but it's free
There's a camera app called "Perfectly Clear"
that I saw many people were impressed with, check it out in the play store!
Bought this app as part of the Play Store sales that just happened. So far it's the best camera app I've tried with the N5. UI is decent, solid amount of features, and shutter speed seems much improved for me.

A couple pics using it. Again, shutter speed is much faster and it doesn't seem to effect low light pics.

Just picked this up, seems faster and focuses better (even though it shows the red focus indicator, it's usually still focused properly.)
Yeah, I found the same, especially in macro mode (all the beer related pics above were in macro with a red focus square).

I'm glad you posted this, most of the camera apps I've tried, even those that have been updated for Nexus 5 and 4.4 compatibility all seemed to act weird when tapping to focus, the exposure on screen would flash really dark and often times stay dark.
This doesn't seem to have that issue, so thanks!
Heres a few random macro/close up shots I took.
Just tried it out much better than the stock camera app in my opinion will be using this one
Can confirm this app rocks! Much much better focus speed and picture quality too. Its on sales now ( I'm not promoting for this app )
Thank you very much for this find!
I have tried so many different camera apps (cameraFX, Camera Awesome,...) until now, and none of them did work out really well.
This one is fast in autofocus, Burst Mode is working and the pictures look great!

Holy [email protected]! This app is a HUGE improvement over the stock camera! Thanks to y'all for pointing it out and recommending it/ showing it off! :highfive:
Just bought it. It was 99 cents so I guess not a big deal to try out. I noticed the auto focus isn't great but tap to focus works better than stock. Is it supposed to have a native video recorder? When I clicked "camcorder" it tried opening my stock video camera and then crashed. Also, I'm not sure if the "reduced noise" is usable. It's fairly slow to take the pic as well as to process it.
EDIT: Nevermind about the video, just read on the app page it doesn't support it.
