I own a Life and i think everyone knows that the battery runs out so fast. I don't wanna bother bring my charger to work since i have to charge at home so i decide to bring my USB cable to work and plug into my computer at office. My office computer using Windows NT so the USB is not supporting by windows but anyway i thought it works for charging only but i found out it doesn't work. Is there a way that i can charge my phone at work with only just a USB cable ???
Thx for the help!!
i found out that it will charge when i turn off my phone ...... but when i turn it back on it won't. Anyone can help?
Thx
Actually it did charge your device (if the LED turns to red) but very slow because the power for the USB is very low. That is why if you keep on using your device while charging using USB port, it seems like it is not charging.
Mod edit: Op removed, see the last post of the thread.
Guys, its really great ROM for car, its better (and cheaper) than any double din on market!
The new nexus 7 has better performance and screenn so its should be Significant upgrade.
Please, feel free to supports this campaign
I read the links and I guess I'm just slow. Could you explain what this is exactly?

Timur's ROM USB OTG + Charging, allows USB devices to be connected while charging the tablet at the same time. Basically, his rom is meant for Nexus 7 in-car installation. It manages USB devices, deep sleep, etc.
http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/
Timur has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to start working on his rom for Nexus 7 2013 model
If anyone would like to pledge their support to create the ROM please use the following link:
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/usb-rom-nexus-7-2013
I'll hold off buying the new Nexus 7 till I see USB OTG + Charging done. If not I may just go ahead and get 2012.

You can do OTG + charging with version 1.6 of ElementalX kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389022

Good news! But the ROM can keep connections to USB devices after the tablet goes to deep sleep so when the tablet comes back from deep sleep there are no problem with USB devices plugged-in. Do you happen to know if that's supported?

That app doesn't really fix the problem. It just acquires a wakelock (PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK) and prevents deep sleep.
I use this the USBROM and Timur Kernel on two Nexus 7 2012's. It is fantastic (for me) as I use my tablets hooked to a DAC and charge at the same time.
The latest Cyanogen Mods for Nexus 7 2013 support the installation of a USB Dac however you can't charge. I solved the problem by using the Qi wireless charging system and bought a Nexus 4 wireless charging orb. Works perfect for the Nexus 7.
I'm a big fan of this guys work. Looking forward to it.

So I take it the problem is that power is removed from the usb peripheral when it goes to sleep and the state is lost when it wakes up?
I tested with stock and that's what happens.
When it's in usb host charge mode, the usb peripheral will resume normally as long as power is maintained. So, if I connect a power source and a usb stick to a y-cable, then plug it into the tablet with the OTG adapter, charging starts and the usb stick is automatically mounted by Stickmount. I start a movie that's on the usb stick, then I press power to put the tablet to sleep. Wait for a minute. It's still charging, so not in deep sleep. Turn it back on and the movie starts back up no problem. But like with stock, if power is removed, the usb stick no longer works.
I'll have to take a look at this with debugging turned on.
From what I remember, the shorted 4-5 pin on the OTG cable triggers host mode, then the otg driver uses vbus to sense when another usb device is connected. As soon as it senses 5V, it tries to connect with the peripheral device. I'm guessing when the 5V is taken away, it disconnects the device immediately and it loses state.
I might be able to do something about this.

That is great news. I'm a guy who would use that feature. Just tried to install ElementalX on top of CM10.2 latest nightly and it doesn't work but I can confirm this works on top of AOKP ROM
In his directions it must be manually enabled though. But it works like a champ!

Does your Kernel support a USB DAC/AUdio?
If so, It means this weekend I can finally put my N7 2013 into my car.
I've been holding off as I've been waiting for USB DAC + OTG Charging so it can be permanently mounted in the car.
Cheers

Hi,
USBROM has powerevent manager that "care" to disconnect\reconnect the devices when no voltage on usb line,
i think you will have to restart the device each drive.
in addition, take a look at N7 2012 rom features.
the most of features are really necessary for car install.

Using his kernel with carbon rom and it rocks. I haven't acquired a USB OTG + charging cable but now i'm on the hunt!
How come I see "project has been canceled" when I go on indiegogoindie gogo.

Actually, it might be enabled on 1.6. I check my config and I think everything necessary is enabled.
Please let me know if it works, I don't have any usb audio stuff to test with.

Good luck finding any of that stuff in Ottawa I had to order my otg adapter and y cable on ebay
@TabletNoob
I will try to get most of this stuff working on the kernel side, thanks for the PM.

Ok, I noticed in sys/modules there is a "snd_usb_audio"
I have OTG charging enabled, that works. But I can't get a USB DAC to work like it did with my CM10.2
Currently running stock rom + elementalX 1.6
First time I installed elementalX 1.6 I had the CM10.2 ROM and had major graphical issues lol Whoops
thanks

I can confirm that an older AOKP build with the OTG charging works with a Nuforce UDAC USB Dac with elementalx 1.6 installed.
I tried to flash the latest AOKP over the top and then reinstalled elementalx and all I got was a blue pixelated screen. Same thing that happens over new CM 10.2 nightlies after Oct 2 (as stated).
John
Ok, So now running Cleanrom & ElementalX.
OTG charging working but USB DAC still not working unlike with Cyanogenmod10.2 Nightly.
I am using a Muse-Audio USB DAC
Thanks
I have USB Host Mode working on my NST Glowlight with Renate NST's UsbMode.apk 1.7, but after enabling host mode my battery drains in about a day, even after disconnecting the keyboard and disabling host mode.
This is a problem Renate NST noted a few months ago in this long thread,. Has any progress been made on the issue?
Sorry, no.
I have to work on debugging the driver.
Okay, good to know. Thanks for all your hard work anyway!
Could you clarify how the "Off/100mA/500mA/Auto" buttons are supposed to work? Can these be used to limit power drawn while in USB host mode?
The selection of charger current can be used a few ways.
The main purpose is to set it to zero when you are using host mode and powering an isolated device.
If you didn't do that the Nook would try to charge itself using the current that it is supplying to the USB device.
That would be a bit unproductive!
For fast charging you can hit the 1.5A button.
The default position should be Auto when you are done.
I have a serious issue with my Nexus 7 2012. I put CM11 on it and all was great. The power got down to 11% on me, so I plugged it into my computer. I noticed it wasn’t charging, MTP didn’t kick in, and I couldn't get into ADB. I figured I’d screwed up the USB port. I tried different cables all with the same results. I turned the tablet off and plugged it in and the battery started charging. I couldn’t get MTP or PTP to work nor could I get into ADB after it was charged. I did a factory reset, clearing everything, and reinstalled. Same issue.
I can use my OTG cable and TWRP to install software on the tablet. I tried AKOP ROM. It allows me to use my OTG cable but the tablet doesn’t charge. I try to toggle MTP to PTP or turn off USB debugging and the tablet locks and reboots. I try to turn off the developer options toggle and the tablet locks and restarts.
Help! I don’t know what to do with it. I've searched all day.
Check the basics. When you plug your N7 into your computer, are you using a USB 2.0 port? Is it directly mounted on the computer's motherboard (i.e., a rear port)? Are the proper drivers installed so your N7 is recognized as a Nexus 7?
USB specifications only provide .5A power, v. 2.0A power from the AC charger. Get your N7 fully charged, then get back with whether it locks and reboots.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I've done all of that. Multiple computers, multiple cables, multiple chargers. The Nexus is at 100%.
Here's the exact issue I have now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536272
Well. I'm going to say disregard. My searches show that a craptastic 12 volt car charger probably hosed the N7's mother board. I'm going to try one more fix but I'm sure it's toast.
Hello everyone.
So there's been a quite few roms around the last weeks enough updates and all that. I noticed that on all roms(literally all of them cm11,cm12.1,RR,MOTION ROM) I get a wakelock named msm_otg after I fully charge my phone and disconnect my charger. This wakelock disables deep sleep and doesn't let the phone sleep on screen off. Is there anyone that can confirm this and maybe we can try a fix? Only fix at the moment is to reboot the device but I don't see a reason why I should always reboot my phone after I charge it. (my device is gti9301i)

I think i read somewhere this wakelock is related to when you plug you phone to a computer. Do you charge your phone using pc?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963792
It is already known with Sprint GS3 (Snapdragon S4)
@zigbye82 nope I use stock charger :-/
The only solution, as for now, is to restart your phone after being charged.
I would suggest that you try charging using a different cable or charger and see if problem is still there. For me this wakelock is high when i charge with usb but goes away when i disconnect.

I dont have this problem. What i'm saying is when i charge my phone on pc the Msm_otg wakelock is high but it goes away when i disconnect from pc. When i charge with my charger i dont get this problem. Maybe you have a defective usb cable or charge.

Confirm! This wakelock is related to change state in the internal memory and usb state. Change the cable and check your kernel. In Cm11 and Cm12.1 there is no problem. Ive got this wakelock when using my phone like external flash drive. Don't worry
If you keep getting issues, just reboot right after unpluged the device.
Their whose attempt to resolve this in last public Samsung source. Did it work I don't know?
Recommendation goes for kernel makers along with rom maker's to disable the future on kernel side (as it's been done for CM13).
For those who would say that they need USB OTG I would say it never whose handy anyway as thanks to not power compliant USB controller QC traditionally used it requires external power source & cable with a plug for it.
Using any cable or charger won't change this! All do I admit that charging module placed in cellular modem section can be itchy (from jamming l at full charged to celullular network collapse until whole module is automatically restarted & when that fails to happen even causing kernel panic [making phone to restart]) so use quality cable's/charger.
