Installed custom rom, lost service (IMEI) help!!! - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi, so I had a stock rom unlocked, rooted with cwm, installed LiteStock #2 (when I installed it was from stock recovery as CWM seemed to have disappeared) everything went fine although I now have no service and checked the IMEI number and its all blank... anything I can do?

first of all, YOU ARE IN DEVELOPMENT SECTION, WHAT ARE YOU DEVELOPING?
questions should be in Q&A section, not here, bear that in mind, and about your problem, provide more info on the ROM, losing IMEI is not that big of a deal if u have a backup of it when you unlocked your device

Sorry... Didn't do a backup as the phone was factory unlocked, the rom was called 'LightStock #2' I've never had problems flashing roms before. Someone suggested flashing the stock rom back via odin although odin isn't recognising my phone while in download mode (installed samsung driver pack, etc.) just dont know what the problem is :/

Fido Canada S4 rooting/flashing questions

Hello!
So, I've read through the beginner guides (and that is a hilarious video btw!) and just want to double check a few things. I'm on Fido (Canada) with a stock S4 (i337M) that I got a couple days ago.
1. I assume I use the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494 [HOW-TO] and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298299 [Canadian Root and Recovery].
1a. That tool will allow me to un-root in case I need the warranty, yes?
2. I also want to flash to vanilla Android (aka Pure Google / Google Edition)... which ROM do I use? There are so many I can't tell.
2a. I know the Samsung camera app doesn't work on the Pure Google ROM, but is basic functionality still working, i.e. can I still take a picture / video / etc.? Is there any other basic functionality missing? (I heard something about the volume button?)
3. Which ROM do I use if I want to restore to factory?
4. I also need to backup my SMS, contacts, call log, app data, settings etc. so I can restore them easily after flashing to new ROM, or after restoring to factory ROM. Will Titanium handle all of this?
Thanks

That guide should be fine. If you want "vanilla Android", right now the closest thing would be CM, you can get it from http://get.cm and select "jfltecan" (the canadian S4 model). Ye,s, Titanium can backup all of those things you mentioned, although I am not certain about system settings - there will be a lot of different settings between TouchWiz and AOSP.

awesome thanks. I'm not worried about system settings just apps and their settings.
for the factory ROM would this work?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573 (again, I'm on Fido in Canada)
and lastly, I'm still not clear on the difference between Odin/Loki/whatever you use to root and/or flash - would someone be able to clarify?
Also, just to be clear, what is meant by 'recovery'?
Thanks again

Loki
refers to the exploit that allows us to run custom recoveries as well as custom roms. You only need to have a loki'd rom if you have a model with a locked bootloader (AT&T).
recovery is a partition that you can access at boot by holding down a combination of keys. (volume up and home button in the case of our sgs4) every phone has recovery stock but it doesn't do much. you can replace stock with clockwork mod recovery which is extremely useful for flashing all kinds of things and making backups before you do. There are other alternative recoveries besides clockwork but that seems to be the most common. TWRP is also gaining popularity these days. You can easily switch between recoveries and or upgrade your current recovery. All that needs to happen is for a new image to be flashed onto the recovery partition. See the rooting guide for more info on how to flash a custom recovery.

ok, great, thanks. just to clarify one last time: am I correct in understanding that I don't need to have a custom recovery in order to flash a ROM? or is that what installing clockwork mod/TWRP means? (or is that what rooting means?)
Lastly... is there somewhere with a list of what each custom ROM is, and/or what things don't work in the ROM? I do want vanilla, but I'd also be interested in checking out the other ROMs to see if there's one that will keep some TouchWiz functionality while removing the ridiculous skin.
Also, for vanilla Android, would you recommend waiting till devs release a MOD based off of the S4 GE?

Check out the link in my first post. A plethora of knowledge that will help you in your Rom journey.
Play around and test the options of roms you have. Each user has different likes/dislikes. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE ORIGINAL POST OF THE ROM YOU ARE PLANNING ON FLASHING. They will contain the basic inductions to flash the Rom and usually any bugs that exist.

Thanks again for the link! I have actually seen several of those... but am just still very confused. mainly on these points:
- FIDO's rom isn't in those lists, and the variety of options for flashing (e.g. some ROMs say they need to be flashed with ODIN not TWRP) is a bit overwhelming!
- there's a post saying the Canadian ROMs are for odin not recovery flashing?
- I'm still not clear on whether I need to install a custom kernel just to flash a different ROM
- Also not clear on how to restore to factory stock (to take it to store for example)
- In the link you sent, the OP said non-ATT people should use the versions in their own forums... but does this apply to Canadian users too or is this ok for them?
Feel free to tell me if I'm being really dumb, but I really am a little lost lol.
As for buggy ROMs... would it be better to wait for one based off the S4 Google Edition?
Thanks again
Canadian dont need loki dont use loki never use loki
Take time to understand everithing before flashing
rodger is the same as fido exept for the rodger bloatware (my accout, visual voicemail etc)
what i did root with cf auto root
installed goomanager on google play ,this app can installed twrp and it really easy
in recovery i flash mint jelly rom ,after its done i flash faux kernel for canadian
To factory restore you have to installe stock rom thru odin ,(from what i understand) it change the rom and the kernel at the same time

ok, so I'm just sorting through all of this. Successfully rooted and flashed CM nightly. However, now I see 'rogers' instead of 'fido' and 4G in the status bar, which I understand means that I'm on LTE according to stock JB icons.
So to sort this out:
a) what do I do about this incorrect network name?
b) if I restore to stock rom through odin, and it installs the 'rogers' rom, how do I get back to the fido apps? will I still have the network access / wrong name problem?
c) if I want to go BACK to stock eventually, I seem to have two options:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573 [FACTORY STOCK]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269304 [12 May Official STOCK firmware collections for Canadian S4]
which do I use?
d) I took a nandroid image, BUT: can I restore from this (after wiping all data) to get back to factory ROM, or MUST I use ODIN? Or, do I need to use ODIN and then nandroid to restore everything about the stock ROM?
Thanks!!
A = I think cm have an option to rename carrier label if not you can install xposed framework and notach xposed and the go in frameword, module then activate nottach .open nottach then chose any option that you want ,over 100...

B= check playstore for fido app

AWESOME, thanks for all that. Successfully flashed, so hopefully that's the end of it all. And thanks for pointing out the thanks button!!
Two LAST quick things:
- if I use the Canadian stock firmware, do I still end up with a wrong carrier name sign? I imagine I may need to ask the dev that, but just in case you happen to know. I actually can't seem to fix it using the methods you suggested, so I'd prefer not to have this happen.
- ok so I can flash with ODIN and then use nandroid to restore a snapshot of the filesystem I assume?

-If you flash back to your stock carrier specific firmware with ODIN the carrier will be correct. You will be back to just as when you first got it from the dealer (provided they didn't set it up for you first).
-You shouldn't be able to restore the nandroid if you ODIN back to stock because you will no longer have a custom recovery.

- Well the problem is that my carrier is Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers, and so CM only has a 'Rogers' release. Similarly there is only a 'Rogers' stock firmware, so I don't want to flash back to that and have the carrier still wrong...
- OK, well I assume I could root, flash nandroid, and then unroot - yes?
Thanks!

-I see the dilema.
-Well as opposed to even flashing to stock with ODIN in the first place. I would suggest booting to recovery (TWRP or CWM), and restore your Nandroid backup. This should bring you to the point before you flashed any ROM. Keep in mind this won't however remove status showing 'custom'.
If you happened to already ODIN back to stock you would have to root again, install custom recovery and perform the step above.

that is what I was thinking... there are ways to unroot as far as I know so hopefully that should be ok!
thankfully I did take a nandroid backup. speaking of which - I have 3 files, does this sound ok?:
- boot/sys/data (these were originally selected so just went with it)
- efs
- other (everything else)
last clarification: I thought nandroid was not recommended if switching between ROMs? like if I had a computer backup (i.e. nandroid) but took the backup in Windows XP (i.e. stock rom) and then tried to restore it over Windows 8 (i.e. CM rom), bad things would happen? or is the nandroid more like an acronis boot image thing where it completely wipes everything?
lastly, if I do that... do I need to wipe factory data, dalvik cache, etc or will nandroid take care of that for me?
many thanks again!

I think when you go into recovery and restore nandroid everything will restore.
I would just restore the nandroid from your current state via recovery. If you are worried about it or it causes a problem, it isn't to many more steps to flash to stock via ODIN, root and install recovery and proceed with restore.
I think it is always safe practice to wipe first, and not to dirty flash.

Yeah, very relieved, and now just gotta figure out why my phone is showing up as a Rogers phone when the nightly is tagged Rogers + Fido and I'll be good to go. I must say I miss multi-window a little and the handwaving over screen a lot, but by god TouchWiz was ugly.

Try flashing Philz Touch recovery, its the most stable recovery imo. Available for both the I9500 and I9505.Flash the .tar file with Odin in PDA.
I keep getting the message e signature verification failed. i have used auto root. i have enabled usb debugging. i have done everything in the steps of the rooting process and flashing process.
Slight progress
So I downloaded CWM recovery again and toggled off signature verification and I successfully managed to install my ROM. New porblem now, when I reboot the device it goes straight back to recovery mode every single time? Help please?
Hi - so I dont know if you guys think Im being stupid and/or lazy and havent found the right thread or if I am just asking a stupid question. If I am would someone kindly point me in the right direction and forgive my ignorance. If I am not being stupid can someone PLEASE help me with an answer. I have posted on several forums with this question and no one seems prepared to offer a solution. This is by no means a rant at forum members - I just hate being defeated by technology - and I have waited a week now for someone to offer me some much needed guidance.

[Q] Have MDL, have root, have zero idea how to get 4.3

Hello all,
I have had my S4 for awhile now and need some help. When I first received it, I did some reading, rooted, did something that removed a triangle or a padlock, can't remember which one and made sure the AT&T software update was unable to run. At the time, custom recovery wasn't possible so I stopped there. So here I am now, rooted with MDL and I have no idea where to go from here to get the latest 4.3, although apparently I have the holy grail of firmware.
I've read as much as I possibly can, subscribed to the forums, GOOGLED, SEARCHED, RTFM and waited for someone else to come along and ask the very same question. Some did but those threads never really gave me the info I need to SAFELY flash my phone up to 4.3. So what do I do? All I need is some guidance, I follow directions well. Teach me! Please and Thank You
Doug
DO NOT UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE IF YOU STILL HAVE MDL. ....U JUST NEED INSTALL CWM RECOVERY OR TWRP RECOVERY. .... AND THEN INSTALL CUSTOM 4.3 ROM. .... EVEN 4.4 KITKAT ROM. ..... BUT IF U DO UPDATE TO NEWEST MK2 FIRMWARE THEN U WOULD LOSE THE PRIVILEGE OF MDL..... WHICH IS RARE. ..... GOODLUCK

Right! One of the things I have learned is that I want to keep the MDL baseband. What I really want are all the improvements that 4.3 or 4.4 offer. Also, I'm hoping my Pebble and my S4 play better together than they do now.
Do I just pick a recovery? Are they the same? Guess I need to read some more.

As ted said, upgrading is bad. You can change modems and such to the MK2 baseband, it's the bootloader that's the issue. As long as you don't try to take any OTA's and don't ODIN any newer version you'll be fine. If you want to run the official AT&T 4.3, your closest bet is StockUp MK2 and the rebloat addon. Otherwise, you can choose either CWM or TWRP and flash away as long as you remember to use the loki patch for things that aren't patched already.
I've read the info at the link you provided before and wondered if I'm already rooted, what would happen? Is that safe to use if currently rooted?
Also, since I'm currently on MDL, would a factory reset return me to a fresh MDL or would it force me to update to current software?

My first ROM flash, Stockup_MK2 went fine until reboot and I had no mobile data or cell signal. What did i do wrong? I immediately did a restore from the nandroid backup to return to where was before.

Did you wipe before installing the rom? Just use the slider toggle in wipe. If so, check that the apn is setup correctly.

Not advocating any one person but he does good stuff and it based on the actual AT&T update to 4.3.. Make sure you do as the guy above me stated and do the simple swipe to wipe in TWRP

[Q] ANNOYING S4!! Help needed

Ok guys, here's the deal. i bought a secondhand s4 which was advertised as a google edition. it has a couple of annoying issues, first i noticed it switching itself off and on. the worst problem with it is that when my battery goes reeeally dead it just bootloops when i have recharged. the only way i can get it back on is to start it in recovery mode (which is clockworkmod v6.0.4.4) then do a factory wipe. so yeah thats a major pain. the s4 itself is a red model and behind the battery it says its a gt-19505, however in the settings on the phone it says its a gt-19505g.
my goal is to install an official firmware if possible that i may be able to update easily, the worry that i have is that i dont know if it would then accept my network as although it appears to run google edition custom firmware it may not once i install something official on it. this may be a nooby statement i know but a noob i am lol.
if its at all possible could i keep the cwm recovery?
and if its any help when i load the other boot loader thingy (with the green android on it) in the top left it says gt-19505, im just sayin cus im sure its vital which ever this phone actually is.
here are as many details as i can give but please ask if im missing anything

The Google Play Edition S4 devices didn't come in any color but white. Therefore, this is an I9505 with a custom ROM on it. The download mode screen reading GT-I9505 confirmed it.
Since this is an I9505 and not an I9505G, the main question is whether this device will work with your SIM card. For that, simply insert your SIM card and boot the device. If you get signal, you're good. Otherwise you'll have to unlock the device, either by purchasing an unlock code from one of the sites that sells them, or by trying the unlock methods available on the forums.
This will also help answer the question of which stock ROM you can install on the device. If the S4 doesn't prompt you to unlock the device, then you can install one of the unbranded S4 ROMs available on sammobile.com. After that, you can put the recovery of your choice on the S4, though I recommend TWRP over the other options.
Thanks for your help. I'm a little confused though, at the moment with this custom google edition ROM it does take my sim, in fact I bet it takes any sim, I heard that was a feature of google play devices. What I meant was after I install the stock ROM will it then not take my sim. So if it has already been unlocked How would I know which ROM to install? As I now know its not a google edition, is it possible to install an official google edition ROM? Do i use this download mode, Odin, or cwm to install a firmware. I'm just not sure what my starting point is. I don't wanna follow someone's guide yet to installing something just in case I'm jumping the gun and need to uninstall this custom ROM somehow.
Sorry for asking questions that I'm sure seem dumb I'm really just trying to learn at the moment I'm green as they come with android. BTW thanks for your suggestions so far, you def seem like you know what you're talking about, cheers
Google Play devices are carrier unlocked, but this is not a Google Play Edition S4. Therefore the device was carrier unlocked at some point in its past. The unknown here is how the original owner unlocked the device. If he or she used the unlocking methods found on XDA there is a chance the lock will be lost when installing a stock ROM.
If the S4 is unlocked, you aren't restricted to a particular region and can install any I9505 ROM using Odin, though I recommend the carrier unbranded ROMs. You cannot install a stock Google Play Edition ROM on the device as the model number of a GPE device is not the same as the device you have. However, you're already rooted and have a custom recovery installed. In I9505 Development here on XDA there is a Google Play Edition ROM that can be installed on your device. Download it to your S4, wipe everything in recovery, then flash the ROM's flashable zip in recovery. I've used said ROM and it works quite well.
OK I have found the 5.0.1 ge ROM , but in there it says I must use latest recovery or whatever plus it recommended one different to mine, is it safe to install using my version of cwm or do I need to learn how to change it??

TWRP is recommended as there are people who are still maintaining it, unlike Clockworkmod and Philz. While you probably can get the ROM installed using the version of Clockworkmod you have, learning how to change recoveries is useful.
OK thank you for all your help my friend, I will now find out how to do this, I'm sure there is a section on this somewhere, BTW I think you are right about my device being rooted, but I wanted to check and I followed a guide and used super su but apparently its not rooted so I guess something must've gone wrong. Bit scary if I try to change my recovery or my firmware and this causes a brick hmmmmm
It's virtually impossible to brick the S4, especially as the recovery is flashed through Odin.
Phew that's a relief. Thanks man.... Well I'm gonna just risk using cwm for now as I'm new to this........ Thanks a whole lot for your time I really mean that.

I want to, I really do but I'm struggling here. Before I wrote that last comment I tried to find a guide on this forum for swapping to twrp, but couldn't and didn't wanna bug this guy as he had helped enough. Anyway I went to the place he told me and have hit another wall anyway because I don't know how to use the firmware the relevant kernel or the git. My life is so busy and I'm getting about an hour on this subject a day and its gonna take forever lol
If you can help me on my way even a little its much appreciated, I would like to use twrp and the 5.0.1 ge plus the right kernel of course

Follow the Odin guide. It's excactly the same when you flashed CWM.
@Lennyz1988: The S4 was bought secondhand and already had CWM on it from the original owner.
@killfrenzy: Follow the guide Lenny mentioned, but don't worry about the second paragraph. Our device isn't one of those that restores the original recovery on boot.
ok will do, i just tried the app install method but as i suspected, it said root is required for this app and promptly exited so i shall do the odin method, i heard that some people remove root or it could be that it was done wrong. also after reading a few posts here and there i found out that someone had similar issues with their phone random re-booting and they had custom ge with the wrong kernel so it seems once im done my issues should be history if i learn how to install fw + kernel, after this twrp thing i will be one step closer for sure. i also know ppl slate lollipop but once im all done with this im sure i will have picked up enough terminology to install cfw's to my hearts content. hooray for forums and people like you, sounds like im kissin ass but its just gratitude
so using the twrp install guide i gotta install using the odin method i have now got 3.07 odin but this is the next step.........
Odin Install Method (No Root Required):
You will need to download and install Odin on your PC. Once you have Odin installed, download the proper .tar file for your device from the download link above. Power off your device. Turn on your device using the proper key combo to get into download mode and attach the device to your computer via a USB cable. Use the PDA tab or button to browse to and select the tar file that you downloaded and flash the device.
lololol nothins ever simple i see the list of tar files in the link above but no mention at all as to which is the proper .tar for my device, i guess they assume the guide is for people who have done it before. more research tomorrow maybe i gotta be up early ugh

Think you misunderstood, I have flashed nothing yet I got it like this. I'm completely green
Don't suppose anybody knows which is the tar file for my device?? S4gt-19505
OK now I get it, the list of tars in that section are all the same just newer builds of the same version. Seems obvious if you have done this before, but I wasn't to know that and cannot assume things. I'm also gonna guess and say Lenny thinks my s4 needs this particular version for an international, am I right?? Anyway it would've made a lot of sense but how does he know. I have no idea what this phone was I have never owned it new.
Different devices have different codes. For example, jfltexx is the I9505. A T-Mobile S4 would be jfltetmo, and so on.The link Lenny provided is for the I9505. Download the 2.8.6.0 version as its the latest.
As to how you were supposed to know, having never owned one, you weren't. There are tutorials in the General forum though that can help.

motorola xt1575 non-developer adition firmware

Hi, bought this phone yesterday, and flashed the rom of the dev adition, and lost my radio, was lucky enough to get best buy to take it back. I got another one though, and I was wondering if there is an official marshmallow downloadible rom for this phone. Don't just want to flash the ota, want to get the entire rom, and I am bootloader unlocked. Also, is there a cfautoroot for this phone on marshmallow.
Thanks in advance

1. do you have custom recovery if so see http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...rom-stock-rooted-debloated-x1575-6-0-t3262242
2. if you want to start over with a clean slate see http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...rom-stock-rooted-debloated-x1575-6-0-t3262242
This is what I am using after not being able to get OTA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65965064&postcount=2
Honestly you should not be flashing anything. Ever.
I'm totally blind and these forms are super hard to navigate through the cludder with
Hi, I am a very technical person, who has a masters in computer programming, I work with linux and just about anything, but I ask questions that may have already been asked, because if you have ever used a screen reader, with the banners and so much cludder, some times I can find the answer, and sometimes I go through pages and pages, and can't find it, and you guys find it easily, so what am I missing. I just want to be on the latest rom, be rooted, and have a custome recovery. Can this be done with cfautoroot on the xt1575, because beeing blind I have to do everything through fastboot as much as possible because my wife will help me some times but usually she gets very frustrated when she has to work twrp and install things for me, so sorry for the ramble, but that's why I some times ask questions that have already been asked.
Thanks

Fastboot flash twrp and download the newest rooted w security update and flash, what I did was flash the non rooted to get everything, then flashed rooted to get root. I can understand that there is a lot of clutter. Wish I could do it for you I deff would
so no problem, what wipe should I do before the flash of the rom, cache, dalvik, and data? Also, does the rooted deodexed use a different baseband or modem, and is there any advantage to deodexing in this day and time, I heard that most of these roms these days were actually not odexed anyway, just asking and learning
Do not do not use fastboot to wipe anything. Download the regular from the link above and the rooted and put on SD card. Flash recovery in fastboot use bootloader to get into recovery(otherwise phone will overwrite) wipe everything accept external in recovery and flash the ROM with February security patch
https://www.androidfilehost.com/fid=24459283995299100
Then after it flashes completely flash https://www.androidfilehost.com/fid=24459283995302251
Then let reboot. I did this with no issues.
