So. My 4G data (Sprint, S4. Rooted, but stock ROM and such) stopped working. Updated PRL and Profile. It works for a minute and stops. Restore backup. It works then stops after 5 mins. Update prl and profile in the Sprint app, it works and then stops 1 minute later.
Did a factory reset (still rooted) and it worked for a while. Came home, connected to wifi. Decide to try it now and it's out.
I also had the hotspot mod installed. Used it a bit last night.
Could it be the hotspot mod or root? Or an app issue?

Oh good, I'm not the only one! Happened to me today as well, exact same setup (rooted, stock ROM, hotspot mod). I also factory reset and got it working again, but mine is still connecting, it's just slow as ****.
If you find a reason/solution elsewhere, please LMK.
If it matters, I am now showing as Custom in status and in download mode.
To above, are you as well?
I unrooted. Going to factory reset now. Is there any way to get back to stock recovery?
Edit: Also, to above: do you have TWRP installed as well?
To get back to stock recovery flash the recovery.IMG from the development forum with Odin. What stock firmware are you on MDC or MDL?

MDL. Updated in the Sprint store at first. I can't find the file for MDL. I assume I would place it in... PDA? Which slot in odin?
So now that I'm unrooted, I would flash that first? Is there a stock MDL to flash?
In other words, on MDL, can I just use the one click MDC package after unrooting to go back to that? It appears that it restores stock recovery too.
Here is a link to stock recovery http://d-h.st/Ube flash in Odin use the pda option auto reboot and f reset time. Then boot in to recovery by powering off and holding power and volume up until you see recovery booting in the left corner then let go. Then do a factory reset and cache wipe. If all else fails once booted up in android dial ##72786# it will reactivate your phone it fixed some of my connectivity issues.

Okay, will try and report back. Will a factory reset likely reverse what the hotspot mod did or no?
Yes it will. If you don't want to just dial ##72786# and it will reactivate your phone that could fix it try that first if that fails do the factory reset and dial that again to reactivate it.

Then you don't need stock recovery just do a factory reset cache wipe and then once it boots dial ##72786# to reactivate the phone again after the setup process. Odin doesn't flash. Img files sorry for the confussion.

Both me and the other guy in this topic on the same day and same conditions though? Seems somewhat odd.
Same areas? Maybe towers are going through maintenance. I know my tower near my house did. I was at dinner in a high 4g signal area and I only had1 bar of 3g. Very unusual for this area. As I left the restaurant it took forever to update to more bars and wouldn't connect to 4g for a few miles. Same issue? Idk. I'm in Michigan. I do know towers are still under testing phase here. Maybe for you guys too? Just because you have 4g doesn't mean the tower is official and out of test phase.

Ok I really screwed the pooch on this one. I'm not sure how I did it but I used the cf auto root and cw recovery and flashed the wanalite rom and everything was fine. Then I wanted to try out a new rom so I flashed a cm 10 rom and had no data except wifi. When I turn wifi off there's no little 3g icon and also I can't make calls anymore. A little more info. I flashed twrp recovery and used that to make a back up. Then I wiped all the stuff you're supposed to before flashing a new ROM. Now here's where I screwed up. I then wiped the data. The one on the right that makes you type in the word yes to wipe it. I didn't realize it would wipe out all my back up s and everything. So now I can't get my phone to work. If I have to end up taking it in for an insurance claim what should I do. Unroot and use triangle away. Then tell them my problems. I really don't know what to do here. I need your help as I'm not very good at this stuff. Anyone have any fixes?

Sorry , you're unlucky man. You just wipe all partitions including EFS (IMEI/baseband lost). Only thing is sending the phone to Samsung service and maybe they will change the motherboard or reflash it. No ROM/firmware contains those hidden partitions so flashing your own will not help .

I think that your phone is quite messed up, from the installation point of view.
You have to try to get totally back to stock.
Get your FW from sammobile (the one that matches country, operator, etc). Get stock recovery. Install both, then do (several) factory resets. It should work....
I would not go on very high level workarounds (reinstall PIT< etc), as you might totally brick your phone.

I had same issue on mine but mine is all stock (for now). I had to go back to the settings and pick network operator again in order for it to pick up the network again.
Well I got it fixed. I had to fully unroot then run triangle away and then take it to the sprint store. All they did was a hard reset (not a factory reset but something with their computer) and everything was back to normal. Whew thought I was going to have to get a new phone.

hi, did you check first in your apn list if the settings were present (connexions - more networks - mobile networks - access point names )? If not present check on your operator website to get the information needed. Normally It should have helped you with this problem
Yeah I messed with that for hours. In many different roms. I think I did every thing I possibly could except for hard reset.

You don't need udb debugging in fastboot mode. Flash the full factory image.

Managed to flash full factory image.
When I flashed 4.3, its stucked at "Android is upgrading.... Starting Apps" screen.
When I flashed 4.2 its managed to boot successfully but I don't get the network coverage.
When i try to search network its "Error in searching network".
The baseband version is stated as unknown.
Reflash 4.3 and wait for the installation to finish. If it gets stuck on "Android is upgrading" just restart the phone. This time use THIS toolkit. it has always worked for me.

I too had this problem with my Nexus 4. I flashed the factory image (I tried with Android 4.2 and 4.3) with fastboot and I got exactly the same errors as you. I finally sent back my device to Google, the new one should arrive next week. I have no idea what can cause this problem :/
This thread is old, but if you have a problem with booting, you don't have to go unlocking bootloader and flashing anything if it can be fixed by just going into stock recovery and wiping cache or factory reset (you will lose apps data, but not data in your phone storage.)
Hold Power + Volume Down when the phone is off to go into "fastboot mode". Then use the Volume keys to navigate to Recovery. In there, press some combination of buttons of Volume and Power to bring up the menu (I forgot what the combination is, just fiddle around), then you can wipe cache or factory reset.
If even factory reseting doesn't help, you might need to unlock bootloader and flash factory firmware, but if you unlock the bootloader it will wipe the phone entirely and you will lose all your data. You can try to boot the phone and connect it to your PC, even if it doesn't boot fully there might be a chance MTP is loaded so you can copy files off.

You should do a factory reset in recovery before flashing. Follow the instruction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312, and make sure you use the correct firmware image when flashing it.
***update 12/8/13***
My issues were resolved by the following changes:
1st issue: audio/video streaming not working over wifi
Solution: uncheck auto network switching under advanced wifi settings
2nd issue: unable to update PRL or Profile (session in progress, please try again later)
Solution: in Titatium Backup, unfreeze Samsung DM Service
I hope this will help others that may find themselves in the same situation I was in.

Running stock, re-rooted after ota 4.3. So many problems since ota update I'm at wits end. I actually like the stock and touchwiz, but this update has needed up so much. Wifi issues, no video over WiFi, no Pandora over WiFi, no Vine period. No YouTube over WiFi, can't update PRL or Profile.
My question: is it safe to try a factory reset at this point?
I so wish I could revert back to pre 4.3 and mja, but know that's not possible. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Sorry I want more clear in my original post. I already have mja from the ota update.
I'm just wanting to fix my issues related to the update, ie the Wi-Fi issues and inability to update PRL or Profile. I was wondering if possibly doing a reset might clear these issues up, and if so, is it safe to do now or will it screw something up.
Thanks for any advice

What he was saying, is something is messed up with your install and it is better to clean slate it. First, a factory reset only wipes data from the phone and nothing else, so that is not going to do much. What you need to do is download the full MJA tar file and install it, then do a factory reset in recovery. By installing the full tar file, you will be reinstalling the modem, firmware, kernel and rom in one sweep. This should fix whatever the ota screwed up when it installed. By doing a factory reset after and maybe before also, it will clear out any app or left over garbage that might be on your phone causing the problems in the first place. You can find the full tar on sammobile or pm me and I'll send you a link to my dropbox.
Thank you very much for that clarification! I'm a little slow at this, but learning. In the short term, I fixed my wifi issues by disabling the autoswitch function. Still no PRL or Profile updates though. I'll try the above steps and post follow up. Matt have to be tomorrow when I have more time though.
Thanks guys!

First off I apologize if this is in the wrong section or has been asked before, I couldn't really find the answer I'm looking for.
So I have my S4 (4.2.2 if it matters) rooted and TWRP recovery loaded on it. I was getting the ATT update message and I kept hitting ignore or remind me latter, however I noticed last night it starts to try to install and restart without giving me an option to cancel it. I quickly remove the battery to prevent my phone from updating.
My question is, how do I stop this update when I turn my phone back on? I don't want it to update the firmware and lock my boot loader. Or am I making a big deal over nothing?
Thanks in advance

Just one more think, I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone back on that the update won't finish installing (it was in the process of installing when I shut it off).
Thanks again for all the help.
I'm assuming that u have MDB/MDL firmware. ......Take your Att sim card out. ... u need to root your phone. ... install Titanium back up and go to Att software update app ....back up first just incase u need it to return to att and then uninstall it...... that's should stop it from OTA update
SWYPED_FROM_S4_MF3_REDVENOM
Yep, you're going to want to root and then rename or freeze those files, you found in the Google search. That will stop the update
Taking just the SIM out at this point won't help. Only way to completely stop it now since it was installing is to Odin back to MDL and start the root process.

So not to keep asking the same question, when the sim card is out of the phone, will that prevent the update from installing?
Also to clarify, I've already rooted my phone and installed TWRP recovery. Again at this point I just want to make sure that when I turn my phone on the update isn't going to automatically finish installing before I can block the app/files
Again, thanks so much for the help, can't wait to get a rom installed and start enjoying the awesomeness
I'd follow graydiggy suggestion. Don't turn it on except to go into download mode. Flash the mdl firmware, then root again and freeze the update apps or install a custom Rom
I could be wrong but I believe the update won't apply since the stock recovery has been replaced with a custom recovery . If I am wrong Im sure somone will come in and correct this statement .

Won't matter
If you have a custom recovery, the update should fail the install with an error 7. However, I would still completely start from scratch by using Odin to get a clean slate without an update. You could actually use Kies and do the emergency restore. Whatever you do, do not boot the phone into the OS until it has been completely wiped by either Odin or Kies. Only download mode.

boot into recovery and in twrp manually go erase the update.zip from cache/fota. Then wipe cache before rebooting. That, or flash the PIT file. I posted directions on how to extract the stock signed PIT file but you'll probably need someone to extract one for you since you dont want to boot to Android yet.

My factory resets are very quick as well. Is this just the processing power or something wrong? Always get improper root after 4.4 installation as well.. so sick of this. Never have had this issue before with previous phones

Didnt the Factory Reset take awhile on earlier versions of TWRP?
I remember having to wait at least 5 mins for a factory reset using TWRP

Unfortunately I wouldn't know. I've always used CWM. This is the first time I've ever used TWRP. But CWM would take considerably longer than the very quick factory reset speeds I'm seeing now.

Try this version IIRC this one didnt have that issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
I just recently switched to CWM for the same reason
To be honest idk whats the purpose of having a "slower" cache formatting than the one that takes 5 seconds?
Maybe it actually does its job? i have no idea
