I just flashed a Slim ROM and love it, Unfortunately the Camera software is lacking compared to Samsung's.
Is there a comparable APK? or has anyone ported the GS4 APK over?
Or any Good suggestions?
Thanks-

There is no compatible APK to get the Samsung Touchwiz camera back.
All of the AOSP/AOKP/CM10 type roms have the downgraded cameras.
You will also find that if you play back video on these downgraded cameras the volume will be super low,
you will need a hearing aid. There are numerous other issues with these AOSP/AOKP/CM10 roms.
The only way you can get the excellent Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean camera is to only flash
Samsung Jellybean Touchwiz based custom roms.
Good luck with it.

I was using the work in progress TW Camera ports on the GE 4.2 Roms. I was interested to find out the framework for TW was still used in the GE Roms, which I have no problem with considering the only thing i hated about Touchwiz was Touchwiz. I like the camera ok.
I prefer the UI of the AOSP camera, but the performance of the TW Camera's post processing is alot better at night. I have compared and I see the posts about new app's performance which is true in daytime, but at night you can tell there is no post processing done. So my night shots come out all noisy. I love taking pictures at bars, parties, outdoors, camping, etc.
I read that the 4.3 ports do not include TW Framework, and when I load the camera it causes a bootloop.
Does anyone know if any ports actually work on 4.3? Is the framework part true?

The lack of the Samsung (TW) Camera is one of my many gripes about G.E., so I'd been following this thread about the camera port for a while. It seems that there's not much TW framework included in 4.2.2 G.E. - at least not as much as one would think. My guess is that if the ports are successful to the 4.2.2 G.E., then 4.3 will likely fairly easy. It's a matter of just finding out what all the ridiculous dependencies are, and then somehow including them.
(but seriously, what parts of TW are included with the 4.2.2 G.E.? Seems like there's nearly nothing!!)

No, it wont be fairly easy with 4.3 as 4.3 has NO left over tw framework files. From what ive been reading they only left the frameworks mainly for the ir blaster but with native ir support coming to 4.3 we likely wont see touchwiz at all in the official 4.3 release...only time will tell.
All thats included in the 4.2.2 is the twframework-res.apk which is nothing youll see, it just simply contains many dependencies.

Thanks for the details. It seems that if/when the camera is ported, it will have to be a full and complete port with all dependencies, etc. That'll be pretty extreme, so let's hope we have a few people here on XDA with too much spare time. >_<
I compared shots taken with the stock LG camera vs the stock jelly bean camera, and the results are dramatic. The LG camera wins hands down, so I'm just curious if AOSP roms would work with the LG camera.
Also, are we going to see custom kernels for this device?
Don't worry, you'll still be able to use your camera. However the stock LG camera app will probably be replaced with focal or something similar.

What he's asking is if we can still use lgs camera app... Because I agree aosp sucks...
Of the stock camera isn't reliant on the framework then yes.. Otherwise no

I doubt we will see a camera with all the options of the LG G2 stock app, but there will be options. Focal is one. Generally manufacturers apps don't make it into AOSP or CM roms, I think because they require other framework or files that aren't included in in the custom roms.
Look at the size of a CM rom, and then at an original rom, and you'll probably see a difference of 500MB+ (i.e. lots of proprietary files not there in AOSP or CM)
As for Kernels, I would think there will be some on the way. There are already a couple, so I'm sure more work will be done to increase the offering.

That makes sense, but it kind of sucks to lose the improvements that LG made. The options are one thing, but the difference in image quality is huge comparing it to AOSP camera .
Don't give up your hopes too soon, as you may already know there's alot of third party camera ported to work with all device including those that uses AOSP roms in Android Apps section.. And they usually comes with their proprietary libs/so to make their functions work..
Although none of them are 100% perfect as they're not intended to be used on other device in the first place, LG cam should work better on LG devices.. Time will tell..
costum kernel will be available soon after the devs gets their hands dirty on the SD800 SoC..
i'm interested about porting the moto x always listening feature to the G2, as the latter has the chip to do so..
I recently got an S5, and I'm a big fan of vanilla-ish Android (I've been using Cyanogenmod for a long time). However, the stock Samsung camera is extremely nice. There's other things I like about it, but it's mainly that (and maybe the wifi calling).
I'm looking for a ROM that retains the stock Samsung camera, but is as close to AOSP as possible. I was looking at XtreStoLite. Are there any other ROMS you guys can suggest? Possibly something that retains the AOSP look and feel, but still has some of the better Samsung improvements (specifically that camera!).
Thank you!

Hi,
You can use X-Note Rom for S5,its at the Moment 4.4.2
But high customable
Read the op's and then try them all until you find one you like.
For those running CM12, what camera app are you using? The stock camera app is pretty awful. When I was using my LG G3 on CM12 I was using the modified Lenovo camera and it was pretty good but I haven't had any success getting it to run on the Z1C.
I'm using this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/app-cameranext-modded-t2999275
But not the most recent version. For me v6 was the best a mirror can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...ext-modded-t2999275/post58586958#post58586958
Although the slowshutter doesn't work for our device, I think its better than the stock camera app!
Cool, I'll give that one a shot. Thanks!
So, how is camera performance of your setup compared to Z1c with stock firmware and stock based sony camera app? The only thing that stops me from installing CM12 is the said bad camera performance.

It is pretty bad from what I remember. I switched to an LG G3 for a while so I don't quite remember what the stock camera was capable of on this phone but in CM12 it is really not that great. I am using the Lenovo Camera that I was using on my G3 and it is better than the stock CM camera by far.
If you take a lot of photos and are anal about them looking great, I'd hold off on flashing CM.
All that being said, I prefer CM12 over stock on this phone, by far.

So, do you believe that if I use a different camera app that the stock on CM12, I will have better results? I have a dedicated camera for serious photo taking, but I'd want to have my Z1c ready for some good snapshots, if necessary.
Installing CM is a big step and I hesitate to do that, but I guess I'll have to find out by myself...

Yes, I would use the Lenovo cam if you want to go to CM12, for sure. Sorry for the delay, I haven't been on here in weeks.

Stock Samsung Camera is not compatible with aosp or any other Rom which is not based on the stock Samsung Touchwiz firmware.
The quality of aosp or any other non Samsung cameras is very bad. Nothing close to the stock camera.
Also the camera app in aosp type roms lack 90% of the features and options which are found in the stock Samsung camera.
Good luck... Have a great day.
