[CM12] Camera app - Xperia Z1 Compact General

For those running CM12, what camera app are you using? The stock camera app is pretty awful. When I was using my LG G3 on CM12 I was using the modified Lenovo camera and it was pretty good but I haven't had any success getting it to run on the Z1C.

I'm using this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/app-cameranext-modded-t2999275
But not the most recent version. For me v6 was the best a mirror can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...ext-modded-t2999275/post58586958#post58586958
Although the slowshutter doesn't work for our device, I think its better than the stock camera app!

Cool, I'll give that one a shot. Thanks!

So, how is camera performance of your setup compared to Z1c with stock firmware and stock based sony camera app? The only thing that stops me from installing CM12 is the said bad camera performance.

It is pretty bad from what I remember. I switched to an LG G3 for a while so I don't quite remember what the stock camera was capable of on this phone but in CM12 it is really not that great. I am using the Lenovo Camera that I was using on my G3 and it is better than the stock CM camera by far.
If you take a lot of photos and are anal about them looking great, I'd hold off on flashing CM.
All that being said, I prefer CM12 over stock on this phone, by far.

So, do you believe that if I use a different camera app that the stock on CM12, I will have better results? I have a dedicated camera for serious photo taking, but I'd want to have my Z1c ready for some good snapshots, if necessary.
Installing CM is a big step and I hesitate to do that, but I guess I'll have to find out by myself...

Yes, I would use the Lenovo cam if you want to go to CM12, for sure. Sorry for the delay, I haven't been on here in weeks.

If we get an AOSP rom, will we still be able to use the LG Camera that's built in?

I compared shots taken with the stock LG camera vs the stock jelly bean camera, and the results are dramatic. The LG camera wins hands down, so I'm just curious if AOSP roms would work with the LG camera.
Also, are we going to see custom kernels for this device?
Don't worry, you'll still be able to use your camera. However the stock LG camera app will probably be replaced with focal or something similar.

What he's asking is if we can still use lgs camera app... Because I agree aosp sucks...
Of the stock camera isn't reliant on the framework then yes.. Otherwise no

I doubt we will see a camera with all the options of the LG G2 stock app, but there will be options. Focal is one. Generally manufacturers apps don't make it into AOSP or CM roms, I think because they require other framework or files that aren't included in in the custom roms.
Look at the size of a CM rom, and then at an original rom, and you'll probably see a difference of 500MB+ (i.e. lots of proprietary files not there in AOSP or CM)
As for Kernels, I would think there will be some on the way. There are already a couple, so I'm sure more work will be done to increase the offering.

That makes sense, but it kind of sucks to lose the improvements that LG made. The options are one thing, but the difference in image quality is huge comparing it to AOSP camera .
Don't give up your hopes too soon, as you may already know there's alot of third party camera ported to work with all device including those that uses AOSP roms in Android Apps section.. And they usually comes with their proprietary libs/so to make their functions work..
Although none of them are 100% perfect as they're not intended to be used on other device in the first place, LG cam should work better on LG devices.. Time will tell..
costum kernel will be available soon after the devs gets their hands dirty on the SD800 SoC..
i'm interested about porting the moto x always listening feature to the G2, as the latter has the chip to do so..

CM11 vs CM12

Should I upgrade to CM12 or stay at CM11? (I'm using the CM ROM on my GS5)
i would not use CM if there was a choice but we stuck with cm and tw unfortunately.
cm 12 has lots of issues right now.
Stay with cm11 but when exit cm12.1 based in android 5.1 upgrade.

I'm on BlissPop that's CM12 based and the only issue I'm having is with proximity sensor during calls which (I hope) should not be to hard to fix. I had 0 reboot's, FC's and any noticeable bug's. From my experience CM12 is more stable as it is now than CM11 was on S3 at the end of it's development cycle(awful battery life, call audio cut offs, static from the speaker, constant camera problems etc - non of those are present on CM12 on S5). It's faster and more battery frendly then even ultra debloated TW roms souch as XtreStoLite.
Why don't you make a nandroid of your CM11 setup, try CM12 for a few days and try it out for yourself?
Tell something about a camera in CM MewCore? Or what about fingerprint sensor?

The stock camera app as well as the google camera has nothing to brag about in terms of IQ or options, but replace them with A Better Camera or Camera Snap HDR and you will have the same, maybe even better results than on TW. Never used the fingerprint sensor, it's hit and miss even on TW so I never tried it on CM.
BTW the proximity sensor is now fixed on BlissPop and I simply can't find an argument to stay on CM11/TW

I am asking because I was on CM12 and BlissPop about month ago and the camera was the worst issuee for me.
Stock / google camera - only 8Mpix and very grainy pix.
How about battery life and WiFi? Is it ok now? I have used fingerprint for some time but preffer pattern.

Judge for yourself, here is an unprocessed shot (I baked it ) with A Better Camera on BlissPop, in not so great lightning conditions.
I was having WiFi disconnects while using custom system profiles, turned them off and don't have an issue since. Tasker ot AutomateIt is better at it so no complaints there. I was on stock TW for a month before trying Bliss and battery seems as good or even better, especially with KT kernel. I get 2 days with medium usage easy.

Stock Camera on CM12.1

Is there any way to get stock or any better camera with updated drivers on CM 12.1 based ROMs because camera quality on CM is really pathetic and Camera is not fully functional like the features are in stock.
Anyone with proper guidance ?
Install and use Camera Fv-5. It's best for cm/aosp roms.

I tried everything about camera on cm/aosp. There is no success port, you can try freecam too but like i said Fv-5 is the best option. If you care camera quality then use stock based rom like Cloudy.
Snapdragon camera and lenovo super camera seems to give the best quality pictures I have found. Snapdragon you have to flash if I remember correctly. Good luck
I would be much apreciated If someone ported lg g2 stock camera and could share with us!
Thanks

Actually third party camera apps mostly focus on Filters. The capability of the cam is not fully utilized using third party camera apps.
You are right for camera quality i should use Stock Based ROMs and I have nearly used all of them. For a change, Now I am on CM/AOSP based ROMs and wanted to know if anyone has ported the stock cam to CM/AOSP ROMs but seems like there is none :/

OOS vs Custom ROM

The OPX is my daily driver (for now) and photography is a HUGE part of my life. Most stable custom ROMs do have more features than the stock, but the camera app functionality and interface will never compare to the stock software. The 2 main features I use are slo-mo and manual mode. So why don't I use OOS 2.x.x? Simple, the community build based on marshmallow has massive performance fixes (especially concerning the GPU and gaming). If the camera isn't a big deal for you than go ahead and flash a custom ROM, this will add more features to your device and the cost of a great camera app. But I definitely suggest upgrading to a marshmallow or nougat based ROM (my personal favourites are CM and PA, they have many features and are pretty stable) due to the poor performance of the GPU on OOS 2.X.X.
let me know you opinions on software concerning the OPX below?
whats the point?
Anyway i find sultans HAL combined with snapdragon interface better.

Ok.. So why not do both. Use a custom ROM and flash oos 3 camera zip. So now you have best ROM and best camera app. That is what I do.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback? (camera seems a little buggy tho?)
The problem with the camera isn't the app it's self. It's the photo quality. Sultan hal uses higher iso settings to eliminate low fps during photo capturing, thus creating to much noise in the picture. That's why you can't get best of both. Furthermore that in latest OOS cam the video recording fps is normal now on, there is no need for me to change in any custom rom. ( by the time these lines are written of course, because no one knows what are talented and really hard working custom roms developers will bring us in the future)
Ps: of course I have test for long periods purity, sultan cm13, caf RR, and official cm13 in order to have a reference point.

Yes, I agree. But the interface on OOS is much more user friendly in my opinion than any STABLE custom rom out there. Sultan hal is much more complicated for the “simple everyday OnePlus user". The most noticeable downside between the two is trying to record slo mo on any custom ROM. There would be too much zoom, too much noise and it was hard to make it play in slo mo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.?

Camera stock vs custom

Ok.. so this has probs been covered hundreds of times but hey
Touchwiz isnt my greatest love and want to move to cm13, the only thing holding me back is reading about camera quality drops when using custom roms, but is it a major drop in quality, i mean im not one for looking at pictures on the pc and blowing them up..
Has anyone got any examples of cm13 pictures..maybe even a similar picture from stock which they have
Anyway thanks for any help
The camera won't suddenly turn QVGA just by changing from official to custom.
I feel like people exaggerate when saying that the quality is worse.
You'll lose most of the features from the stock camera, but it's not like the camera will suddenly turn into a 1 Megapixel camera.
If you're a casual user, you'll be just fine.
I like to focus, snap and be happy with a decent pic..thats about it
Might go for CM13 official then, i spose if not happy come back to stock
I don't use the stock camera apps in AOSP or Cyanogenmod (when I was using it). Half the time the binary would crash so badly that only a reboot would fix it. So when using AOSP (currently using JDC AOSP 7.0) or Cyanogenmod I install a camera app that uses its own binaries. That eliminates camera issues in AOSP for me.
