Nexus 7 Google Hangout Force Close/Drop? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never had this happen on my Galaxy S3 but on my Nexus 7, when I'm using Google Hangout with a friend, it likes to either force close after 30 minutes or say "You have left the chat" when I haven't done anything. Any ideas whether this is an issue with the Nexus 7 or Google Hangout?

I've been having the same issue since the launch and have gotten no help from either Google nor here. It seems it has something to do with Play Services cause if I Clear Data/Cache and Force Close Play Services I can do ONE Hangout, then it will go back to FCing again.

That is really strange. I guess I'll try clearing my cache each time that happens. :/

You can try re installing hangout if you are rooted. That worked for me.

Alright, I'll give that a shot.

Hmm...no luck. Is this just an isolated issue for me? :/

You could try wiping the data of hangouts and of the Google plus app, because they are linked (you can open hangouts in the g+ app)
I don't have that problem so I guess it's an isolated issue...

reboot every 5-10 minutes after update

Am I the only one having an issue with it rebooting every 5-10 minutes?
I already did a factory data reset
and I dont know why its doing it
anyone else experiencing it?
and im on the android 4.1.2 OTA
thanks, curtis
Not sure. Try doing a restart and see if it comes back. Haven't seen or heard of that issue yet. Or try powering down for a few minutes then powering back up.
Its been acting fine since I posted this, figures lol
But I will say it only did that when I was downloading from google play
I'm having the same problem as we speak. I had to do a factory reset cuz my Google now was acting crazy (no cards/would always say it's "off"). Google play is restoring my apps right now with 3 reboots while I actually had the play store open on the screen. Hope I have the same luck you do!

Sounds identical to me; while I instaled my prolly 45 apps from google play it would just restart to the samsung logo, happened about 3 times
so now im a little scared to use google play for a long period of time cause ive had phones (in the past) do a "reboot" and wipe all data when it comes back on
Well hopefully we both avoid that... I've downloaded a couple other single apps with no issue. I'll post back if I have any other issues.

Make sure you update google now after fresh install. The version that comes stock will not work properly till updated from play store. I have not had a single reboot and i have 130 apps+ installed.

[Q] Google Hangouts / talk

Howdy,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the Hangouts app to work on their N4. I'm running the latest nightly of CM 10.1. I went to install Hangouts from the Play store and it says that I have it installed. However my app is still called Talk and has the Talk interface. Has anyone had luck getting this updated?
Nevermind heh. I just used CM File Manager to move the talk.apk from /system/app to a backup location. Then I went to the Play store and tried again. This time it installed the new version.
I had the same issue. My solution was to go onto the Web store and install it from there to my phone. Seemed to do the trick.

Interesting, I tried that first but it didnt work for me.
I wish I could edit my title so it is more descriptive...
Just uninstall the original Talk app first (using Titanium or anything that's capable of remiving system app).
Seriously i rated this with 1 STAR.
It must say: "Replaces Talk AND REMOVE THE F$$$ING VOICE-CALL FEATURE FROM YOU Talk".
Its best to remove Talk and then install Hangouts.
Does anyone know how to get this working with the N4 if it's not rooted?

Nope - I have two stock, unmodified, new Nexus 4's... one upgraded no problem with the new Google Hangouts that properly replaced Google Talk... and the other, upgrades with Google Hangout but in the app list and everywhere else, still shows Google Talk but no Google Hangout. Under all apps, Google Talk is still shown. If you open it from there, the old Talk launches. If you search Google Play for Google Hangouts, it shows 'Installed' and if you open Google Hangouts from there, it launches the old Google Talk.
Very strange.... gonna try clearing some app data and what not to see if it resolves.

Should I also unplug it and wait 30 seconds?
I have the same issue as OP. I can't uninstall Talk (no root) and the play store is showing that hangout is installed. I open it and Talk comes up.

Please let us know if you figure anything out. I'm on stock as well and I'm starting to regret it because of updates like this. I bought this phone for updates but so far, it seems to be behind on that(4.2 OTA took a week). I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling google+ and that didn't work. I thought it might be tied to g+ since Google is trying to make it more involved with Android. I might root this weekend if I don't get it soon.

Google have addressed this as follows:
Google said:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. Rest assured Hangouts will be available soon for all Android 2.3+ devices, tablets included!

I was having the same issue as others. It shows as installed on the phone (v 1.0.0.1) and via Play Store in a browser.
I was able to use a browser and install it to my wife's Nexus S though.
Here is the APK for v 1.0.0.678017 which I was able to side load and works fine on my N4.
Due to APK file size, I had to upload it in a ZIP archive.
Thanks mate, I had the same issue on my JB Xperia. Your APK worked.

Didnt work for me at first. Then i went to the web app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC50YWxrIl0.) and pressed install. Installation was pushed to my device and now it works great!

I made the same mistake. I removed the update "3.6.1.44747389", but now the market pushes "3.6.0.44338848" instead. Not sure what the difference is, but I side loaded a backup of the newer version.
The apk SpookyTunes posted worked for me, I have it on my Galaxy tab 2.

What an odd bug!

Any clue how to fix?

Possibly trying uninstalling and reinstalling the app or even just force stop/disable and reenable Google play services/store?
This is irrelevant, but I've seen stuff like this before in clients like origin where someone is downloading an update. The server/client gets confused and they end up at like 125%.

Error 500 on Google Play Store

Hey guys, just noticed as of this morning I cannot download anything from the Play Store. Tried both mobile data and WiFi and still brings up Error 500. Did a quick google search and was told to clear cache in both Google Play Store and Download Manager but still getting the same error.
Anybody else experiencing the same problems or know how to fix this?

Also any apps I've purchased in the past are coming up as not paid for. The ones installed are fine but this is pretty BS if they can't fix this..

Same issue - 9:20 pm Central
Weird. I got an RMA replacement S4 this afternoon. I got it booted up, installed a few apps and all was well. I came home, used the phone, installed another app from the play store, and then all of a sudden, I was getting the 500 error. Now I can't download anything from the Play store. Very odd. I have wiped the Play Store cache, removed the google account and re-added it... that doesn't fix the issue. I assume this has to be a server-side issue because you guys are seeing this today also.
Anyone still experiencing problems?
yep same here. just started about 30 minutes ago, cant access any of the "All Access" music only my local and continue to get the 500 error when updating any app. I have a moto x on AIO and data connection doesn't matter 4g/wifi. Also tried resetting up my APN, clearing cache of google store but not resolving this issue. Seems to be happening across carriers and devices.
Not working on GS4. Just got the error right now.

Are you using google launcher experience? if yes, probabily you will have to disable it and install another one. Another thing you should do is go in location services and turn all off, this should solve your problem.

This problem has not occurred after the 4.4.2 update. But then anyways reset my phone and installed everything back again. Since then, I haven't had this problem. Using Google experience launcher v10.

I'm kind of keeping factory reset as a last resort.Because if I'm going to lose my data I might as well root at that point. And I even Tried updatding to 4.2.2 with the updates of Google search Uninstalled but it didn't work for me.. The drain is too much for me
Even reported it to Google. It's messed up how they let this pass because I've searched a lot and this issue is faced by many people and they have no solution but to Force stop the app or turn off Google Now
Edit:BTW Thanks both of you for replying so quickly
