Can anyone recommend a good free converter that will change my .m4p files to mp3 for use with my S4 / other devices. I hate restrictions on the stuff I PAID for. Looks like I may have just installed a faulty program trying to search myself. Any help would be appreciated

I haven't worked with m4p files in a LONG time, but back when I was in college, I used to make "CDs" out of them with an old application that made sort of an iso of the CD format, and just ripped in back into mp3 format. Ended up create a small script that would do that for a list of songs. I'm pretty sure someone has created an app to do that by now. If all else fails, you can go at it the old fashion way - burn and rip.
I think this is against XDA rules man. As much as you might have payed, you payed for licensing from Apple and they dictate the terms

I wasn't exactly looking to send all my music out for free in a share network. Just looking to get it to work on my PERSONAL device. I understand where you are coming from though. Talking with Apple now as I believe you used to be able to burn your songs to a disk in mp3. Not sure if it's because I am trying to do it with a data dvd-rw but each time the songs remain in the same format. Love the benefits I get for actually paying for my music. Not trying to do anything shady haha. Just looking for my music on my device

I still buy all my music from itunes and it has always worked on my android phones. IIRC Apple convered to non-DRM many years ago. Anything you bought before that they gave you an option to convert (for a price).

Just got off the phone with a rep and I should be able to get those older tracks dmr free in the way of redownloading. The songs unfortunately are too far back to be listed for direct download in my purchase history. I have to go on chat support and give all the individual order numbers listed in my invoice looking purchase history. Certainly not ideal, but better than nothing.

I tested it out with my account, and anything that I purchase back when I owned a 3GS remains DRM'd. If Apple's willing to help you, that's awesome. There might be some issue about when you bought it and what the EULA was back then. Hopefully Apple can help you through that.

iTunes plus has been discontinued and I have yet to get my music burned to a disk in .mp3 format from .m4p. I keep trying in iTunes but haven't been successful yet using a dvd-rw. Not sure if it makes a difference so I will try a cd-r in a minute. The only current way to get the songs DRM free is by subscribing to iTunes Match. From what I understand it scans your library, upgrades lower bit versions of songs and allow you to download DRM free versions of your purchased tracks. $25 a year upfront.

The official way is to make Music CD disks from iTunes - basically the M4P is turned into a WAV file and you get to put 12 or so on a CD. You lose all the tags, then you can re-rip to MP3. There are some software solutions (I have seen ads) but i have not tried them.

Yeah, every time I rip them though there are large discrepancies on the time for each track. They are in unprotected format after but some cut off halfway and others last longer than they should with just blank audio. For example Free Fallin by Tom Petty is 4:16 on iTunes but 14:25 on the disk. It is just blank for the extra 10 min while other tracks are cut off with not enough time. I don't understand... This is quite the pain and I'm now out of disks.

Already, I was able to use Double twist to get my music off of iTunes and into my Xoom, that was pretty simple, and all is well.
I am going on vacation next Sunday, and I am going to need some movies to watch. Typically on my iPad, I can rent or buy a movie on iTunes and simply watch it.
I need to know the following:
1. Is there anyway to get protected movies off of iTunes and into the Xoom? I would rather not spend 10 hours ripping and burning a few movies.
2. What are my choices for movie download locations? Reliable, and virus free?
3. My experience with the Xoom has been a very positive one to this point, I just need a reliable and hopefully not a time consuming method to buy/rent movies, and/or a method to get movies already purchased from iTunes into the Xoom.

I don't know if this is the advice you are lookng for but you can always "barrow" movies from the internet via a torrent or download site like filestube. Although I haven't explored it yet, I believe amazon.com has some kind of video on demand service which would be comparable to iTunes video service I suppose. But until the xoom has flash support even that isn't an option. As far as the "barrowing" method originally mentioned, I wouldn't worry about viruses. The virus would have to be written for the android operating system and I dont think you will encounter that at this stage. This of course only applies if you are going to be downloading directly through three xoom. If you plan to use your PC first then transfer to the xoom, then I guess a little concern might be warranted, as always.
But the android market does have torrent apps, so direct downloads to the xoom is a viable option. Also torrent sites like btjunkie will have reviews/comments to give you an idea whether the file does what it says it should.
Also filestube can be used directly from the xoom. As far as finding good files, generally you want to look for results that have the movie name (or sometimes its abbreviation), the year it was made, "xvid", and that it its already in a watchable format i.e avi,mp4,etc.
These tend to almost always be bonafide files. Hope this helps.
Google really needs to get media support for their devices otherwise they will always border on the line of niche geek devices.

I have used a torrent client on my Nook Color to download a ep of Fringe it played flawless. It was only TV HD on not 720p but looked excellent. I think it took 10 minutes for a 325 Mb file no computer needed at all. I used rock player to play it. I would expect the xoom to have no trouble doing this.
Not sure what format it uses, but the Amazon Video market has an option for downloading for use on portable devices. It does look like you would have to start the process on your computer and then transfer the files to the device, but it might be pretty easy.

Stripping the DRM is something I haven't seen yet, however, on other Android forums, I've seen the program Tunebite mentioned a couple of times.
It basically records the file while it is being played on your computer (similar to what "other" drm removal tools do, but supposedly, it accesses the file differently, enabling it to run faster.
I have no experience with it myself though. I tend to stay away from those kinds of files myself.
It sure seems like there's a golden opportunity here for Amazon to be the Android equivalent of iTunes for purchases of movies, TV shows and music.

Amazon video on demand works right from the XOOM's browser. I haven't been able to copy anything to the actual device from the service, but you can at least stream all your Amazon videos.
Why do they make it soo hard to download movies and video legally? I've had such a hard time with DRM and such, that I've had to resort to other methods to get my media on my portables. I hate this soo much, I have no problem paying for my content, but if it is harder to pay them for it, than it is to "borrow" it, then why oh why would I pay for it? I would also like to see an answer to the OP. /end rant

A tool called requiem will remove the DRM. You're on your own to find it though.
#2 I grab my movies from tehparadox.com I have never dl'ed any viruses from that site. Plus its an active site if theirs a problem with at post ppl will always let you know before you download

I am not sure, but here in the Netherlands downloading movies is legal. Uploading is not. At this moment usenet is a excellent source especially with Spotnet. Works like a charm after the authorities closed down FTD (database of this program was in the Netherlands, but was no longer considered legal). Spotnet however is new designed and has a database on usenet itself which is impossible to shutdown.
All movies, music, series can be found there in topnotch quality and downloading goes with 12MB (that is MegaByte per second), depending on your internet account ofcourse. We in the Netherlands have a maximum of 120Mbit at this moment.
Not sure if it will also works overseas, but you could give it a try.
Just alerting Evo owners (Android owners too) that Amazon just launched their Amazon Cloud Player and Android App. You get 5 GB for free and if you purchase a mp3 (just one will do and for .99 cents pretty cheap storage) you are automatically updated to 20 GB for one year. You can upload your existing music collection to the cloud and listen anywhere; home PC, phone, anywhere with an internet connection. It also allows you to store other files there as well (so they say but haven't checked out that option yet). There is an Android App to go with the program. No subscription fees. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Secures your music in case of hardware failure and has the potential to free up a lot of space on your SD card. If you want to pull your music back onto your phone to listen in a premium music player, thats doable too. Great concept and the price can't be beat. This should be especially useful to Sprint users with unlimited data plans. I uploaded 10 GB of music this morning from my computer over Wifi from home and will clean up my SD card from music I don't listen too that often. I think it's a great utility and let's you manage your own library of music pretty liberally.

The best streaming service I've tried is mspot. It gives you 2GB free space but you can buy more, I fit alot more than 2GB in because it gives you an option of song quality to upload from the original format so I chose the lowest (its just a phone and sounds great even the website through my computer speakers), and best of all its all in the cloud, no need for your computer to be on to act as a server like other services.
I was up very late messing around with this last night. Honestly, I think it's an awesome move, and has thrown down the gauntlet to Google and Apple. Plus, 20GB is enough for me to fit all my most listened to music up there. I like that it streams in the songs original bitrate too.
A lot of people in the comments section on various sites keep mentioning Audiogalaxy as an alternative, but what sets this apart is your home computer doesn't have to be on and connected to the internet all the time.
I may move to Google Music when it comes out, but for now, for me, this is the cream of the crop.
You guys may want to be real careful on what you upload to CloudDrive for a while.
Seems Amazon is taking a "unique" approach to this cloud storage & streaming service. They are arguing that they dont need distribution licenses from RIAA because the service is more like a user saving files to an external harddrive, but in this case its the cloud.
They dont have a license agreement with ANY of the labels, which means that things will likely go south. RIAA and labels are likely going to sue Amazon and issue a C&D letter to get the service to stop. They may even get Amazon to turn over user info and lead to other headaches... Sony for one stated that they are "shocked & upset" over Amazon's new CloudDrive service and others are saying they cant believe a company like Amazon went ahead without securing licenses...

I would only store music previously purchased from Amazon or CDs that you own, just to be safe. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I would bet that if Amazon doesnt secure some sort of licensing deal & tighten up their offerings, RIAA is going to bring lawsuits.
What is the best free mp3 cloud service? Amazon cloud has a nice layout and streams nicely but only gives 5gb free. Microsoft skydrive gives 25gb but the player is pretty crappy and takes awhile to load. Are there any other free cloud drives similar to amazon with more memory?

I'm not sure.... I use beta all the time and would hate to have to pay for it..... maybe they'll keep beta open to the people who already use it and just open up a new server for the paid accounts

If you don't have it yet, head to http://music.google.com to request an invite. Might take them a while to give you one though.
And who knows how long it will be in beta status. Gmail was in beta for over five years...and it is still free.

It does say "Music Beta is available free for a limited time." So they are at least implying their intent to charge for the service. If that actually comes to be is anybody's guess.

Haven't seen mspot mentioned. It's pretty good, with some odd restrictions (the music has to all come from the same computer, though it does get stored on their server).
I didn't realize you could stream with skydrive.
I really enjoy amazon cloud. It has web and android apps. It has very simple transfer from client to cloud and back. And every time I buy any music from amazon, it's right there for me. Size isn't an issue as I really only need my favorite songs accessable frm everywhere. 5gb would be enough but I easily buy an album a year which will keep my storage at 20gb.

Google has already stated at I/O that Google Music will not be a fully free service.
Amazon MP3 has a fast uploader, and if you buy a digital copy, there is no upload time at all - just hits your music library almost instantly.
I think the player is clunky and the UI kind of slugish on our phones and the Moto Xoom.
The playlist shuffle feature BLOWS on amazon
Google Music has a really great interface, well integrated with the device, but that damn uploader is so EFING SLOW!
Shuffle actually shuffles and does it nicely.

for a year only. Not sure if you'll have to buy another one to keep 20 Gb, but you'll have to pay for extra 15Gb. BTW the music that you bought at Amazon and store in their cloud does not count toward your total. That is another plus for them.
I do not think Google up-loader is slow. Last time I put two albums in my music folder and switched to Google Music site, they already were present there.
I like both services and wish for a Black/dark theme for Amazon player.
I vote for Google Music, it took me a week non stop to upload 9000+ songs and I have a 1.5Mbps upload speed at home.
I haven't found an easy way to upload via Amazon unless it has changed since I signed up when it first came out. You have to upload each album/song manually which is unlike google music which scans your folder that you select and uploads all the compatible music to the cloud, at it's own damn pace.

So what with USB OTG looking unlikely (at least for the meantime, but maybe forever) for the Nexus 4 and no SD card slot I find myself in the position of sort of being strongarmed into using Google Music.
My question here is about pirated music. I'm sure my collection (alike to most peoples) isn't entirely free of this, and if it counts the CD's I converted into mp3s when I first bought an mp3 player then it definitely isn't.
So I have no problem if google music deletes anything that it doesn't deem legit, that's cool. I'm not however cool with them then notifying sony or something and a million dollar (pound) lawsuit then being dropped on me ... I've been doing some googling but haven't really found much of a discussion about this.
Anyone got 2 cents to add in? Is it safe to upload everything to google music and then let them sort it out?

I've uploaded my entire music collection to both Google Music AND the Amazon Cloud Player and I'm sure there some pirated albums in there.. but nothing has been deleted and no police have smashed my doors in.
You'll be fine. The Google service is very good too - the tag editing is much better than Amazon's for example. I no longer need a PC to manage my music. I have a 16GB N4 and I created an "Essentials" playlist on Google Music containing my absolute favourite songs and I've made that permanent on the phone - so it downloaded all the songs automatically. And it's pretty sweet having access to your entire collection via a decent connection.

Well there are all sorts of data points they could compare, the easiest being to compare file size and the MD5 hash of known rips (although the latter is easily changed) but I presume they would use several different factors and maybe use some sort of spectral analysis and check any watermarks.
In fact youtube already does things along these lines.
I doubt they would catch on to CDs ripped by individual people, but for example, tracks from a popular torrent would be fairly simple to identify especially once vast numbers of people start uploading the exact same files, which don't correlate to a legitimate source.
It would be quite easy for google to compile a lists of things that were definitely pirated, and definitely legitimate. If you were in between you'd probably be fine too, but anything taken from a popular torrent i'd imagine would definitely fall into a blacklist.
There would be various ways around this, if necessary I'm sure someone will make an application to go through an subtly alter elements of your music collection to ensure it wouldn't match any database of known rips, maybe by inserting small silences (even if just a fraction of a second) at the beginning or end of tracks and changing a number of other attributes that wouldn't affect playback.
So yeah not naive at all, you just clearly didn't think about it enough.
It all comes down to if Google is bothering / cares and what action they intend to take if they do find material which obviously comes from a pirated source. As I mentioned if they just remove it - no problem could either circumvent their checks or purchase the missing songs, but if they may have to (even if not now but at a later date) give out the credentials of anyone whom they have found with pirated material that could be a problem.
I've looked around for posts like this with no luck and nothing on Google search as well. I am sure many people have lots of pirated music on there and I haven't heard of any issues whatsoever which is a good sign. Or they're waiting and lulling us into a false sense of confidence before screwing us all haha

Well there are all sorts of data points they could compare, the easiest being to compare file size and the MD5 hash of known rips (although the latter is easily changed) but I presume they would use several different factors and maybe use some sort of spectral analysis and check any watermarks.
In fact youtube already does things along these lines.
I doubt they would catch on to CDs ripped by individual people, but for example, tracks from a popular torrent would be fairly simple to identify especially once vast numbers of people start uploading the exact same files, which don't correlate to a legitimate source.
It would be quite easy for google to compile a lists of things that were definitely pirated, and definitely legitimate. If you were in between you'd probably be fine too, but anything taken from a popular torrent i'd imagine would definitely fall into a blacklist.
There would be various ways around this, if necessary I'm sure someone will make an application to go through an subtly alter elements of your music collection to ensure it wouldn't match any database of known rips, maybe by inserting small silences (even if just a fraction of a second) at the beginning or end of tracks and changing a number of other attributes that wouldn't affect playback.
So yeah not naive at all, you just clearly didn't think about it enough.
It all comes down to if Google is bothering / cares and what action they intend to take if they do find material which obviously comes from a pirated source. As I mentioned if they just remove it - no problem could either circumvent their checks or purchase the missing songs, but if they may have to (even if not now but at a later date) give out the credentials of anyone whom they have found with pirated material that could be a problem.

Just because your file matches the common torrent files doesn't mean it actually is the common torrent file. If two people rip and verify with AccurateRip the files -should- be identical.

So what with USB OTG looking unlikely (at least for the meantime, but maybe forever) for the Nexus 4 and no SD card slot I find myself in the position of sort of being strongarmed into using Google Music.
My question here is about pirated music. I'm sure my collection (alike to most peoples) isn't entirely free of this, and if it counts the CD's I converted into mp3s when I first bought an mp3 player then it definitely isn't.
So I have no problem if google music deletes anything that it doesn't deem legit, that's cool. I'm not however cool with them then notifying sony or something and a million dollar (pound) lawsuit then being dropped on me ... I've been doing some googling but haven't really found much of a discussion about this.
Anyone got 2 cents to add in? Is it safe to upload everything to google music and then let them sort it out?

They don't know what is legit or not it just uploads whatever is in your music collection. Don't ask me how I know I just do.

Google is not the police. Google would make no money scaring people away by prosecuting people with files they may or may not know are illegal.
If a company wanted to invest a LOT of money in legal fees to somehow make a court force Google to release our private files so that said company can scan them for watermarks etc. you might be at risk, but I very much doubt an outside company could get the power to do that.

It's fine. I use play music all the time and my collection isn't fully legit.

Good evening (at least on my time zone lol )
As title suggests ever since like 2011 i have gone from galaxy s 2 to iphone 5 then iphone 6 and right now on an amazing white s7 edge that has just swept my heart !!
What i need you help is with is re-adapting to the eco-system..
As u can see i was long adapted to apple's ecosystem for buying mostly music..now i transfered via otg from iph6 to my gs7e all the music but my question is..how do i buy stuff now??
i do know that i can buy everything off google's store but that will just leave me with a horrible half assed library on 1 apple account and another half assed library barely started at a google account..
I also know i can just buy subscription and steam like anything for free, but my country charges almost 150euros/month for 2 GB of data pla..and thats a direct rape right there..thats why i buy music from the stores..please help me find a solution..
acceptable solution would even be to buy music off itunes on my desktop pc and somehow just transfer the songs not already on my s7e..

You could try transferring your music to Amazon music if you are prime. Or if I remember right google play music can do the same(not sure if you need an abo). And than download the music for offline use.
Google play music allows you to install something on your Mac which allows you to then upload your entire iTunes library into the cloud. From there you can then stream your Google music on Google play music on your Android device. Or you can choose to download that same music onto your phone from the cloud.

Not for music you already own. If you upload your own library you can stream and sync it for free. Paid subscription is for radio streaming and music you don't already own
