I noticed on my I9505 that when I record video, sometime at the begining of the recording, there is a crackling sound.
Are any of you experiencing the same issue?
I am on I9505XXUAMDM firmware. Has this been fix on newer firmwares?
Below is a link to a youtube video where I found a recording with the same issue as mine (on this particular video the crackling sound is at 0:02).

Try lower the general volume on the phone. I manage to get better sound on video recordings that way. Tell me if it worked for you.

Yes, I was talking about the ringing volume, but I just tried again and the crackling is still present.
Afterwards, I made a photo first with the camera and immediately started video recording. The crackling did not appear anymore.
May be random, but you can try and see if taking a photo before recording video does any good.

I'm writing, about this problem , in Italy's forum but i'm the only with this problem...
Tomorrow i try ........
Your device , crackling also with voice recorder app. (stock Samsung ) ??
I think that it's a hardware problem...........:crying:
On my Tmobile S4, I noticed a crackle in audio recording at ~5 seconds. When I try to reproduce it immediately on another audio recording, there is none. Maybe it's a one-time thing that occurs when something is initiated for the first time.

I tried to open a files audio stereo recorded with S4 voice record. with Sound Forge (program for audio editing) and crackling is present only in one channel (the one used by recording in mono, so the bottom mic) ... . the other channel is'ok (heard separately)
Maybe the microphone is fault ?
In a german forum several people are reporting the same issue. Some said that the crackling are only in the first video, if they make right away another one there is no crackling in this (second) video.
Same here.. :crying:

Do you have this problem only on video recorder or also on voice recorder ?
in voice recorder i've too
also setting stereo, or mono........but in the graphic ( open file audio with tool of sound editing ) the crackling is present only in one channel,
if i listen the other chanel separately , the crackling is absent
i try to recorder from a source with higher volume (stereo , play an audio cd ) and the crackling is absent......if i recorder setting lower the volume of my stereo.....the problem comes out.......
I think that the crackling will appear when the amplifier increasese the gain........

On first I noticed it in video recording but it is in all type of audio recording.
I think too is a problem of amplifier but is a problem because I cannot record all video on road to workaround this
I hope is a software bug and will be fixed soon..

does anyone face a problem with sound recording ?? when i record i hear back the recorded audio i hear a lotttt of noise , why is this happening i flashed radio and several cooked roms .
please i need someones help
anyone ???
yes, exact same thing here, it's like the mic gain skyrockets to the clouds, I hear an astounding high-pitch noise as if there was a hurrican blowing inside the mic, and this happens even if I record sound in a very quiet room.
On the other side, I use ACR to record all calls, and nothiong like it happens, my voice is clear on the recorded audio...
Audio on the soundrecorder and on the videocamera is simply useless instead.
Today I realized that the phone don't have any bass response at all when you record a video. You can put the phone right behind the speaker and it won't record any bass... but if you use the voice recording app, it does recognice bass.
Like this video i've found in the internet:
There are any way to deactivate the stereo recording on videos?

I wouldn't even try to guess until you provide a reasonable amount of information about your situation. How do you expect us to narrow anything down without any clues?
Where is a sample video clip or even a decent description of the hiss? Tell us under what conditions this occurs, e.g. only on quiet environments, randomly, always, etc. Does it change when you change video quality settings, internal, external mike? What model phone, firmware version and anything else that appears even remotely relevant.
.
oki. ill upload a sample. it occurs under all circumstances, phone is pure stock so camera app and all is out of the box

That seems to be a musical selection.. so how to tell what is part of the unknown music track and what is hiss? Better would have been recording the quietest environment you could find. Or if the hiss only shows up when recording something, then play a recorded music track. And provide both the phone recording and the original music track so that it can be, more or less, subtracted or distinguished from the hiss.
It would help if the track didn't have interfering music or if you tried recording in quiet, moderate, loud environments, impulse sounds, etc with comments on whether the hiss varies under various conditions. At a guess it's the aggressive ALC (auto level control) when you record with the internal (?) mike. So when there is a quiet part in the music, the ALC cranks up the gain and the noise from the phone circuit becomes more apparent. On that theory it would be good to know if using an external mike alleviates the problem or not.
If it is an ALC problem.. there isn't much that you can do about it.. other than consider using an external mike.. not recording in quiet locations, which could be difficult.. or hope that someone disassembles and tames the ALC.
.
I have the same problem. Even returned my phone to the service and they did smth to the mic, maybe even replaced it. But my problem is still there. Search for check out 'hissing 001' video on youtube, i have uploaded a sampleml. they said they tried recording videos with two other samsung fives, and they all had hissing problems. But i just cant accept that a quality phone like thos has an amateur error like this... for others, sound recording sounds just fine. What can I do?
I'm having the same problem. Not sure when it started but now the hissing sound happens most of the time when I recorded videos. Recording voice through an app doesn't create any hissing sound. Anyone can provide anything we can try? TIA.

I just got my device back from service, and I have to say they did something to it, because now the mic works PERFECT, without hissing whatsoever.
IT could be sw related problem, but i strongly believe they gave me a brand new mic.
good luck!

Thanks for the update Darkerr9. I'm tempted to replace the mic by myself but not so confident I can handle it. Watched how to do it on youtube and will cost me around $25 for the parts. I still think it's software related issue since when recording just voice, it works perfectly. No white noise or anything. ... hmmm.. what to do..?

Ah, I see. Well I still had my warranty so they did it for free. And remember, the 1st time they (another service) tried to fix this, they failed to do so. I guess I got lucky now... voice recording quality is poorer, so that doesnt count imo btw if you use your headset mic, you will see (hear) that the problem is fixed..
Hi everyone. I have the same problem and it's very frustrating. I don't have a solution BUT I know the reason why it's hissing . It's not the microphone! When I record only audio with both microphones it's all OK. The problem occurs when front cam is on! When my girlfriend close up the phone to her ear she heard that awful sound (hissing). So the camera make that noise. Top mic is very close to the cam so mic gets that noise. Try to hear very closely to the cam and check if you have the same noise from cam.
Hey guys,
Please confirm this issue in This thread.
If you don't know what it is check this youtube playlist.
Long story short, noise cancelling microphone mess up the audio quality when you record sound or video.
Thanks!
ps. : sorry for my bad english
I thought I'm the only one having issues with recording audio
if only there is a way to turn that feature off
Some guy ( Bonoboo, Thanks! ) did a fix, i can't test it right now.

Hi, I recently discovered that my K20 speaker is heating up (back portion around the speaker) when listening to music at max volume. It is not overheating or something like that, but a bit warm then the rest of the device.
Is that normal? Please test and let me know!
Btw the speaker is good!

i had this problem with every sound, notifies etc, deactivating spotify equalizer solved the issue.
so if your speaker starts sound as "boxed" and you hear a "starting hiss", it's spotify equalizer, even out of spotify (probably spotify equalizer uses some android driver to equalize, so it has effect on non spotify apps too)

U re welcome I think it's a stranger bug, the equaliser should be on for Bluetooth devices or headphones, not for the phone speaker, but I hope it will be solved in the next update

This is normal, as there is a microchip right under the speaker that heats up and the metal frame of the speaker dissipates the heat. So it looks like the speaker is heating up.
Hello, maybe the message is not understood because I do not speak English and I had to translate the text, I am sorry. I have a problem similar to such a degree that the horn began to have a burning smell, I currently send it to guarantee with amazon , any answer I have, I will be warning you, it is probably due to a hardware problem, or something different your mobile
P.S. I don't use spotify.
I had the same problem with Deezer app, disabling the equalizer solved the problem, probably the problem might be present using any equalizer apps , thanks for the tip
