When I saw the port for ICS come out I got really excited and flashed it right away. Then I realized for whatever reason I didnt have SU permissions so I couldn't tether to my computer. I was disappointed but I thought, "no biggie, I'll just restore from my back up." When I flashed my back up the SU app was in my app drawer but I still couldn't tether. As a matter of fact I can't do anything that requires SU but the bootloader still reads unlocked. WTF?
I can't flash a new recovery either. I tried installing from ROM manager, I tried pushing it from my computer but I can't get to the recovery any more. ROM manager says that I have CWM 5.0.2.0 currently installed but I can't get to it at all. Again, WTF?

Thanks for not answering my questions. The bootloader is unlocked but I don't have root and I don't have access to recovery mode even tho ROM Manager says I have Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 currently installed. I cannot access the recovery mode AT ALL. I cannot flash or push a new recovery but it fully boots into Gingerbread w/o any issues. What is wrong with my phone and how do I fix it.

No suggestions have worked so far. It does not matter what the recovery image name is, whenever I try the flash it Terminal says that it cannot load "***.img" or if I try an install command it says that it cannot find "***.zip" I'm on a snow leopard iMac so I don't need drivers n such.
Let me pose the question like this, what would I do to completely restore the phone to factory condition and try to root it again? Like I said before, the bootloader says that it is unlocked but I do not have any root privileges, could not access the recovery I had before nor install a new recovery after having locked the unlocked the phone's bootloader again.

You don't need udb debugging in fastboot mode. Flash the full factory image.

Managed to flash full factory image.
When I flashed 4.3, its stucked at "Android is upgrading.... Starting Apps" screen.
When I flashed 4.2 its managed to boot successfully but I don't get the network coverage.
When i try to search network its "Error in searching network".
The baseband version is stated as unknown.
Reflash 4.3 and wait for the installation to finish. If it gets stuck on "Android is upgrading" just restart the phone. This time use THIS toolkit. it has always worked for me.

I too had this problem with my Nexus 4. I flashed the factory image (I tried with Android 4.2 and 4.3) with fastboot and I got exactly the same errors as you. I finally sent back my device to Google, the new one should arrive next week. I have no idea what can cause this problem :/
This thread is old, but if you have a problem with booting, you don't have to go unlocking bootloader and flashing anything if it can be fixed by just going into stock recovery and wiping cache or factory reset (you will lose apps data, but not data in your phone storage.)
Hold Power + Volume Down when the phone is off to go into "fastboot mode". Then use the Volume keys to navigate to Recovery. In there, press some combination of buttons of Volume and Power to bring up the menu (I forgot what the combination is, just fiddle around), then you can wipe cache or factory reset.
If even factory reseting doesn't help, you might need to unlock bootloader and flash factory firmware, but if you unlock the bootloader it will wipe the phone entirely and you will lose all your data. You can try to boot the phone and connect it to your PC, even if it doesn't boot fully there might be a chance MTP is loaded so you can copy files off.

You should do a factory reset in recovery before flashing. Follow the instruction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312, and make sure you use the correct firmware image when flashing it.
So I'm new to rooting and custom roms in general and excuse my language but kind of a *****. I have the files to root my G2 and it shows up on adb devices. I'm only doing this because my battery life is really subpar and I'm hoping a root and custom rom will help me with this.
Now once I was rooted I was thinking of installing Malladus. I am having a little trouble figuring out the safest way to do this. I was told to root then download and flash a custom recovery using GooManager. How exactly do I do this?
Once that is done the instructions say:
Instructions
1. wipe data (if coming from ANY other rom)
2. wipe cache
3. flash ROM
4. flash LG Apps
5. flash GApps
6. let phone sit for a few minutes once booted to settle (a lot is done on first boot)
Now what exactly does the first instruction mean? Should I wipe my data if coming from a stock LG that is just rooted? After that I just select the option "wipe cache" on GooManager and make sure those downloads are in that order and hit flash no?
Thank you in advance. I have searched the forums but haven't found the exact answers I was looking for.

I'm still a little confused. I did some research on TWRP but still don't know exactly what it is. Also to install it I put it on the (by the directions)
Download the above file and place it in /sdcard on your device. Using adb shell or terminal emulator:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recoveryfilename.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Make certain that you get this command right. Typing the wrong number could result in a brick!

First that thread should take you to a root method once rooted we can install twrp which allows you to make backups of your current ROM. And more importantly try out new ROMs on your system. It's like saying once I'm tired of Windows XP I can flash/install 7. If I don't like it I can restore the old backup. Except in this case it's versions of android or modified android os that allows for new and exciting options. Root allows you to modify your cutrent ROM choice further. You can install fonts, themes, control battery draining applications, hide your nav buttons for more screen when you don't use them. If you are not in the know I suggest you do lots of research. In some cases we will be able to use applications we normally couldn't even applications from other phones once they are ported. ...essentially it's your ticket to be able to do the magical things the normal consumer says" " I wish my phone could do that" but except they can't because they don't have root or a custom recovery to make it happen. Step one is baby steps because brick is a nasty word you don't want to mutter.
Get rooted. Install a program called adb and install the LG drivers for your phone. There are step by step guides on how to do this and you might need to follow them into other links for guides to get from a to b. Once adb can see the phone. ..warning this is command line. Then you can download twrp IN SOME CASES YOU NEED TO ONLY DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL FILES BUILT FOR Your PHONES MODEL/Carrier and push it to the phone. Install it with ADB. Once you're there your fairly safe. Now your boot into recovery and make a backup reboot your phone and at least go visit a stock ROM thread for your model phone. There should be a development thread for each carrier.

I already am rooted. That part was easy. It was basically run adb devices, make sure device was there, run root.bat, follow instructions, and boom. The flashing a recovery and flashing a custom rom is what really confuses me. Again this is my paranoid self speaking. It says I want adb working. If I was able to open the command window within my root folder on my desktop and run "adb devices" and see my LG then I have adb working? If so how is that the hard part, all you have to do is download and install the drivers for the phone to get that to work.
I plan on making my own step by step guide on rooting and flashing a custom recovery after this (with pictures) for people like me.
After that the commands to run the twrp install ate not that much more complicated

Download Verizon twrp. Open adb folder. Find the adb in sdk or bin run as administrator. Copy and paste the commands. You should put twrp in the same folder adb cmd prompt is ran from after downloaded. That's it. I'd use option 2. Afterward you'll,learn you can download goomanager from market and do it with 1 click. ..

Maybe try restarting phone into recovery while while connected to pc and see if that helps

when i connect the phone it says HTC Sync error = -1
My phone was great until I tried flashing the hellfire ROM. It told me that it couldnt flash bc it was D801 and not G2. Idk what it meant bc all other D801 ROMS flashed successfully. Anyway I tried to factory reset after that and it says it cant mount data or something like that. Now I only get the LG screen. When I try to go into download mode to flash the correct kdz file in flash tool to reset the entire thing back to stock it stays on the screen that says download mode and has the blue dots. And when I try to run the program through windows and the flash tool it tells me that the phone isn't connected to the PC. Can anybody please help me? Oh and I have TWRP recovery installed but all my backups are gone all of a sudden,.I can't do anything with this phone....!!! Thanks to anyone who can help.

Of you search up stock ROM for the lg g2 you should find something that has d801 stock firmware you would see d8010c or something like that find it and read up on it.

Ok I am installing them now. Should I try to connect in download mode and then use the flash tool? Or do I need to go in another direction?

If your using windows make sure you run terminal from with ABD shell folder or it won't give you the ABD commnads.
Same problem
I have exactly the same problem please help!!!
someone help please, me too have the same issue please.
Just boot into twrp and select install zip from sideload. Connect the phone to pc. Go to your adb folder and type
adb sideload .zip*(for example:adb sideload update.zip)
Be patient, you got to wait until adb has copied your zip to the phone. Then the actual flashing will start. So leave the phone untouched for like 15minutes and wait till it's done.
This way you can flash the phone in a working state and then kdz again.
Don't forget to wipe all before flashing and factory reset afterwards.
