So I used to be on Dark Unicorn Resurrected 2.5 (ICS) and recently upgraded to JellyBellyG1.1 (JB). Specifically it was this version of the rom without the nav buttons "3b. Dark JellyBellyG1b (Without Navigation Buttons)".
Before on my phone I could play videos from sites like vimeo and pinkbike no problem directly in my browser (Opera Mobile) they also worked on the new Opera Mobile 14 so it's not that. The Youtube app works and watching youtube videos from the browser plays no problem, it seems like it's just videos from other sites.
It seems like the problem is playing .mp4 files since I get an error saying "sorry this video cannot be played". I downloaded MX Player and it does play the videos (if I download them to my SD card first then select it to play via MX Player) that I want but I want to stream videos directly from my browser.
Well it looks like I can't post a url to a sample video because I don't have 10 posts but look for the "redbull uci-dh-world-cup-season-teaser" video. This is the one I'm using as a base to see if I can get other (non YT) videos to work (it does the same with pinkbike and vimeo videos as well). I get the error message above when trying to play it in the browser (note that it also does this in Opera and the stock Browser as well, I'll be trying out Chrome later today to see if that fixes it but I just like Opera as a browser for some reason).
Could it be some sort of codec issue? AFAIK droids should be able to play mp4 container files natively and it definitely did work when I was on Dark Unicorn so I suspect it's something with the Jellybelly codecs or whatever.

How about trying a newer ROM. I think you prefer AOKP judging by the two ROMs you mentioned.
Try Cnotes aokp its 4.1.2 I think.

Ha, you would be correct. I never got into Paranoid but I was on AOSP/CM7 before and it was alright but I think AOKP's ROM control layout is more logical and has more cutting edge features. Kind of like Fedora which is more cutting edge and "shiny" vs CentOS which is more stable/long term and for "Enterprises".
I'll try out Cnotes AOKP ROM. But do you think I should go PACman or stick with his AOKP ROM since that's what I like?

Since you said you like tweaks I would say PAC. Because it has pretty much all the tweaks from 3 big roms.
And JellyBelly is a bit old; its Android JB, but 4.1.1, Cnotes AOKP is 4.1.2, and PAC is 4.2.2. lol. The only bug is probably the headset overheating, but even that's not that bad when your phone is plugged in.
Hope I helped!
Okay so it looks like a new ROM solved my problem and I went with PACman, gotta get used to the Paranoid stuff still but it seems pretty straightforward and all the AOKP stuff works. I'm still not sure why it did that with my original install though, maybe it was some electric gremlins messing the original install or something.

Yeah you did. But now I'm having another problem with PACman Glacier. So I flashed 22.3 and it came with the 3.0.7x kernel which I was having a few problems with, I then wiped cache/dalvik and flashed the 3.0.66 coderzs kernel. Now on occasion it will say "Unfortunately system UI has stopped" and take like a minute to reload the launcher, lockscreen, widgets, etc. Is there another kernel I could try? Maybe downgrade further to 3.0.61 and hope it's more stable?
I'm not exactly sure why the above happens and I don't know the exact steps to replicate it but basically from idle/sleep it will do that when I try to turn the device back on. Could it be the governors maybe? I'm using Ondemand and noop (coderzs doesn't have smartassv2 or anything like that).

Well, PAC runs off of .66 and higher kernels so no .61
But older versions may be able to run kernels like that. Try 22.0.1 and under. 19.3 was the best version according to some posts. Try the .61 on that

There are yes and no
U can find kernels to flash but doesn't mean it will be 100% compatible
paranoid ROM has no working camera also the aokp rom is actually 4.2.1 but it has a problem where after running it for a few hours it gets super slow and lags till it freezes
I have been testing all job ROMs except codename android or cm10 from 0.0 (which notorious, the link in the resource bible is wrong for codename)
Even though I would love to be on a 4.2.2 ROM for the stability I'm on andromadus cm10 it is rock solid should be official I think

Well actually there is an issue basically the only one but its kinda big.
Dropped signal with missed call and sometimes random signal drops. Happens on all the 4.2.2 ROMs.
I am actually now testing the cm10 by 0.0, I was getting system ui fc on andromadus cm10. So far its running perfect and modified a track pad wake zip to work on the ROM.

This is true. I've just been using airplane mode to restore it. Seems to work. Declining calls won't drop... But obviously you need to be near the phone.
I'm surprised though at how good the 4.2.2 ROMs run on this phone, better than a lot of other older ROMs we have. As much as I would love to to be on that ROM I have to stick with something more stable though. I'm just glad I'm still on jb

First post so go easy on me ...
So been also coming across the obvious "signal drop after missed call issue" and the always popular "headphone overheat bug" in all the JB ROMs for Glacier. Been through CM10.1, CM10.2, Carbon, Albinomans etc. and always come across them. It's been verified that it is in the kernel of course. I have a logcat for both that I would love to get to the devs out there working on these ROMS. Not enough posts of course to get them to any dev. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is a dsmeg kernel log. I think I found it right. HS_MNG seems to handle the headset commands. Though I was using earbuds with a mic and found that it was saying "no mic was found"...don't quote me on that... still new at all this code stuff. Will get the signal drop dsmeg when I experience the bug again. :fingers-crossed:
Regarding signal drop on JB ROMs, I'm currently on coderz carbon ROM 4.3 latest build. The drop happened again after a missed call. Just curious though, has anyone addressed that while signal is dropped, and you try to make a call, it says to "first turn airplane mode off" when clearly it is not in airplane mode. Wondering if this is just an normal android occurance when there is no service, or if this observance could help in any way. I apologize for the noobness...still learning

I have tried CM7 but it is not very smooth.
Is there any rom better?
For ICS rom, I have tried the Hashcode Zone one but after flashed the rom, my fire just stuck at the booting animation......so I have only flashed CM7 right now.
Personally I love running whistletop's cm7, it runs super smooth for me, and most importantly HW acceleration works as well as all video (flash, HD YouTUbe), which you currently loose with CM9 until the devs get HW acceleration working. Until then, I'm sticking with CM7.
I've been running Whistlestop's CM7 since late January and it's been great-- no wifi issues, SOD, etc. I'm holding out for hardware video acceleration (and hopefully USB OTG) before I move on to ICS.

ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed recommendation
Since yesterday I am using the ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed. Before I was using the CM7 barebones. The ICS CM9 Kang ROM is fantastic. It is extremly fast and responsive. The Hardware UI acceleration is not working yet for HD and some times the system frizes. But I can only recommend the use!!
Try this ics ROM at this link:

To me CM7 is the best ROM since everything works. The build in THIS post seems to be slightly better than the other CM7 builds that I've tried.
I've been using jackpot Clavins CM9 on my KF since mid January and love it. While the hardware acceleration doesnt work, everything else runs great. Very fast and newest builds have eliminated SOD issues.
Is there a specific ROM that is Clavin's CM9, or are you building yourself from his github. I see a lot of guys taking his source and making their own ROMs, but nothing specific from Clavin.
Any other opinions on this? I am looking for a ICS Rom which one works the best and is the most stable?
I'm using MIUI from the miui.us, and it's pretty awesome. Still needs some work but sounds like they all do - most issues just seem to be display formatting needing a little tweaking.
You kinda gotta be an MIUI person though, it's a little Apple-esque, not for everyone, though I find tablet usage may be a little less polarizing...

I haven't exactly tested ICS roms extensively, but I'm currently using...
NRGZ28 Energy ICS KANG Rom
I really like it, and the most recent issues fix the Sleep Of Death issues they were having. I would definitely suggest it if your interested in ICS. Get it, flash it, see how it feels and if there's anything that you do that the lack of HW Accel effects. If not then your good.
It comes with NovaLauncher, and since I have a copy of ADW EX, I tried putting that over top of Nova, but I found it to be more sluggish. I would suggest staying pretty much bare bones on what the rom gives you, maybe adjust the awake clocks a little (down clock to 1.0GHz for stock, or under clock it to press the battery out a little further).
MoDaCo would be my suggestion otherwise. It's just Gingerbread, so it's the same old Android stuff. I've never been a huge fan of CM7, but that's just me

I agree that's (IMO) the best ICS ROM at the moment. However, Sleep of Death is still an issue. I'm not sure whether I'm terribly unlucky or what, but I get it every single time I attempt to shut down the KF, no exceptions, ever since 3-15 came out. Never had a SOD on 3-13.
Either way, I second that ROM as awesome among ICS ROMs.
Me likey.

Very happy with it, but am closely watching hashcode's kernel development thread.

Though limited by stock settings options, wallpaper options, Gr7 by modaco is the smoothest running imho, just throw adw/golauncher so your not stuck on the stock launcher.

I'm going to have to disagree about Gingerbread being less, well, anything other than new. The GB ROMs I run are smoother, quicker and have better battery life than ANY ICS ROM I've run. Period.
However, if you want ICS, Paranoid Android is a fun one. Also, you might keep an eye on CM9. Whichever port or build is newest will usually have the most up-to-date features. I didn't recommend AOKP because there are lots of updates and fixes here and there and you are wanting to minimize flashing. Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing AOKP.
ICS is still under heavy development and things will really be great once a 3.0+ kernel is available.
If I were you, I'd run a good GB ROM like CM7.2 Why? Because it works. You might flash a different kernel, but honestly there is nothing wrong with the CM kernel at all and it's VERY stable. If you can accidentally break CM7, you should sell your phone and get an iPhone. Ha!
Also, read the MIUI release threads (not v4). Anytime you see someone say something like, "This build is perfect" or "I have had no problems with this ROM," you know you have a winner.

Well if you have the bad chip then I'd stay away from any ics rom. Yea they are stable at some point but it seems like after a few days, they get buggy. Be careful with the bad emmc chip. Choose your rom wisely because it could be your last. Whoever said ics is better than gb is on that sherm. Besides being new that's the only thing different. Oh I forgot, you can multitask just a tiny bit better. Ics hasn't been out for a year yet. Still has issues like camera and random reboots and freezes. Hell you can't render gpu on these things without it going crazy. Stick to gingerbread bro and keep your eye on ics. It has gotten better but its still beta. Just think of it as this, gb has 720p recording with no issues on gpu rendering and flys like the wind bulls eye! If you are on the bad chip my suggestion would be to flash NEW! [July 26] [Sense 3.5] Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Sense 3.5 / Smooth / Themed
or CM7.2....honestly you cant go wrong with either one of those roms....Whatever you prefer, sense or gb. Those 2 are rock solid.
First off, I know the motto on this site is "Search before Posting"... So before anyone says it don't you think I took account on that before starting this thread? Just throwing that out there. Second, I am using the AOKP ROM for my Glacier. The camera sucks! I know the highest resolution you can record on ICS is 480p, but all my videos are splotchy, and when they're particularly longer, and maybe louder the audio quality seems to deteriorate. So, I began a quest to find me a maybe flashable camera (optional: working effects, better quality, better audio quality). So a future thanks to you all for helping, if you do.
Aospx has 720p recording with the grapefruit kernel.
That kernel doesn't work with some ICS ROMs, but it's worth a shot. Either that or switch to aospx.
The issue with recording at less than 720p is not with the app. It's at the kernel level. Just having a camera at all took quite a bit of work by, I believe, firesnatch. We had no ICS camera driver.
Ok. I'll check out the aospX rom

Ok, this is what I did. And it really fixed my problem thanks to you guys. I decided to stay on AOKP, because of its features and everything. So i restored a Nandroid (I tested out TouchWizUX) and I forgot to change the DPI back to 240. So I did a factory reset (forget all that flashing) and suprisingly it still booted, and all my add-ons were still there. So, i flashed the grapefruit kernel (talk about smoothness) changed the OC to 960 max, 268 min Gov.: OnDemand (it keeps changing to smarta..v2) then changed the DPI back to 220 (ask me how I still got Play Store to work flawlessly) and in Messaging, the new line mod started to show, and vibration pattern options started to show and i'm pretty sure theres more to see that I haven't ran into yet. but, aospX will be soon flashed !

In my mind, AospX, CM, AOKP, all the same. Its just that you get official support from CM(maybe) and that tends to be most stable but AospX is the most stable right now. I don't use the rom but i flash the grapefruit kernel on all the ICS roms that i use. Hit that thanks button
Incredible_Glacier_v1.0 looks like it has a working camera, i am thinking of trying that out, i tried an aokp rom think it was called dark unicorn resurrected, and the camera taking crappy resolution photos was a no no for me so i went back to GB... I didn't know about this grapefruit kernel, i am going to look into that so thanks.
Edit: Just flashed the aospX rom, I'm so happy right now, seems perfect. I decided not to try Incredible_Glacier_v1.0 just yet.
Hello,
I may sound like a noob, but thats only because i didn't play with these roms much so far... so, yes, i am a noob
I managed to upgrade my U8800pro to 4.03 official thanks to some of you.
Now i am looking through the forum and many threads and many many custom roms, but i cant decide which one to go with since all seem to have problems...
So the question is: which rom is the most stable+fastest for U8800pro? It would be also nice if normal features (calls sound ok, network works ok, "notification drawer", gmail, youtube, play store, gps, wifi, tethering (wifi, usb), music playback, if possible radio, if not also ok) are also present and working. I really hope there is such rom out there. I dont mind if it is based on 2.x or 4.x (ok, i prefer 4.x, but if some 2.x is better, i will go with that), as long as it works well.
I also have U8800 and there it is easy choice. Go with Aurora, and everything (well, almost everything) works as intended. I also looked for Aurora mod for U8800pro but the best i could find is a mod for Aurora 4.x, while there is already Aurora 5.x out there.
I will post instructions for upgrading 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.03 later on, since i had problems upgrading myself for future noobs to use.
And thanks in advance

Stock Gingerbread
best ROM
nothing can beat it..
ALL custom ROMs for U8800PRO have one thing or the other that'll leave you unsatisfied..
Stock ICS is bad for gaming.
all JB 4.1 have only secondary mic (the one beside the camera) working.. plus, camera doesn't work properly except in stock/pre-installed camera app.
all JB 4.2 have buggy/broken bluetooth
If you don't play heavy games (even Subway Surfers is HEAVY for this phone ).. then you can stick to official ICS.. just unlock FPS (that "install-recovery.sh" thing) and all Temple Runs will be fine.

I'll have to disagree!
Rittik's CM10 ROM is probably the best choice. It's really fast, no lag, and with RAM Manager Pro and History wiping (long press home button), there is absolutely no problem (provided you disable apps to run at startup with Autostart).
Gaming is as smooth as stock GB, except for the games that are ridiculously heavy.
I hope I helped =)

I disagree with both of you. Our friend needs a stable ROM. So I suggest him to try Gingerbread(2.x.x) custom ROMs like THE STALLION ICS look, CyanogenMod 7.2 and MIUI. Everything works like a charm, no reboots, good RAM managment, a lot of extras(the last two ROMs) and no battery drain.
You can downgrade to Gingerbread by flashing step 2 from an official GB ROM.

What about wrong messages in systemUI ?? example- "Screen timeout set to 15 years"! ... "Screen timeout set to 5 weeks"!
"SDcard is damaged or has unsupported format"
"4G WiFi icon" instead of "USB icon"!
"No signal icon" instead of "GPS icon"..
What about disturbance in calls? You can hear your fingers moving on the phone's back! bcoz main mic isn't working at all!

The Stallion ICS look has no SRS WOW HD.. no DSP Manager too.
CM7.2 is buggy.. buttons backlight.. and proximity sensor.. Also, Awesome Beats™ does not work on GingerBread.. Beats™ is the only thing that can beat SRS WOW HD... CM7.2's DSP Manager is "just okay"...
Kalo is not themable.

i have flashed almost all of the roms available for more than a week each (time required to actually see if there are any hidden bugs)
The roms with the least bugs are Kalo and stallion ics.All the others have important issues (for me) thats the reason i didnt stick with them.In general:All ics roms are heavy and laggy, not for games ofcource. All "jb" roms have very serious issues such as awful memory management and awful incall sound, the phone's most important function, broken bluetooths, broken gps, broken wifi, and a lot of smaller bugs.
All miuis have issues, mainly low memory because of the heavy ui.
Cms are almost ok but not quite there.
I didnt want to return to gingerbread after all these beautiful roms but they are just that, beautiful on the outside ugly on the inside!
we have to focus on gb roms, they are the most complete unfortunately, unless a real dev shows up and work on sources

Aurora ics 4.1 with fixed "white screen" is the best rom I think. But it is my IMHO.

My favorite ROM still remains CM7.2 modified by bronxitas with forumber kernel. The ROM isn't really on XDA as far as I know but it's based on the Moihack release most likely.

I didn't expect you would say that. I don't think anyone will agree with you.
Stock ROMs lag a lot, have locked fps, are unrooted, less features...
korekore I think you 've tried the MIUI I'm on with right now.
It's fast, it has a lot of useful features, it has the most free memory I ever encountered and minimum battery drain(all night 1-2% loss).
B U T I have installed only 51 applications like every ROM I used in the past. I mention that because you said that problems start to appear after a big number of installed apps(>100).
I think this ROM siuts me better than anyone other and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
I think I gonna stick with it.

It supports another file. I don't remember the name(something like 99unlock).
Even though I prefer MIUI or CM7 or Kalo's ROM. That's my opinion.

Since there's not a whole lot of development right now for our device beyond slight modifications to stock images, I thought I'd start a thread on the best combinations I've found so far of the latest ROM's and kernels and such there are to choose from currently.
I've had the best luck so far with Elixir v.2.0.1. In my experience it's the only one so far that doesn't have a bug or anything that isn't working in it. It's missing an advanced reboot menu unlike the others but beyond that it has a very nice subtle theme change making colors darker and easy on the eyes and it's snappy and decently conservative on it's own. This ROM combined with Sensei version 8 kernel is fantastic!!! My battery increased 135% after undervolting 24mV and upping the clock speed to 2.9 (governor interactive) along with replacing MPDecision with Intelliplug on Conservative settings. There's even less stutter than in the stock installation and phone doesn't get nearly as warm.
A lot of people using the later Sensei releases are complaining of boot loops so I recommend staying at release 8 for now until the issues calm down in the next release or so. The developer has done a fantastic job and is working very hard on the kernel! Be sure and thank him.
What combinations are you guys using and what are your results?
Running elixir as well with lean kernel great rom no bugs very fast and like you said i like the subtle theme nothing too far from stock. My battery life isnt that great maybe i will try undervolting and trying the sensei kernel tweaks.
I haven't been tempted to flash any Roms so far. I really enjoy this phone the way it is.

Me too I never stay stock, but like this one. I am rooted and am happy with the tweaks I can make on my own, so far.
Euphoria + LeanKernel.
Rastapop is nice too.
I'm running the latest Validus ROM with latest Sensei Kernel. Both ROM and Kernel are SaberMod compiled with many more optimizations, they're a great combo.
RIPng has rebased his kernel and removed a few features to gain stability.. In my testing it's been very stable. If anyone tries his latest release just hold off on using the most recently added governors, there is more work to be done on them.

You're not missing much at the moment by not flashing a ROM since all of them are just barely modified stock images! I know what you guys mean though. I've never been as happy with a stock installation as I am on Lollipop on this particular phone anyways. Google has really come a long way! It's pretty impressive when you continue to refine an OS to the point that flash junkies like us are even happy leaving it alone!

The Liquid Devs have stated that once their builds are more stable they will open a thread up on XDA . The Validus Dev has hinted towards possibly just keeping his builds on Google+
I've just been checking DrDevs for Liquid and I get updates on Google+ for Validus. Nice to see more features being added back into Lollipop though.
Slimlp and lean kernel here. Slim is the snappiest performance ROM I've tried. It just opens everything quickly and battery has been pretty good. It's going to take a beast of a rom to make me switch. This is my opinion but slim is the best ROM ATM.

I've only tried 1 so far, Sinless rom based off the google image and not the AOSP version. For all who are using any version of AOSP, does everything work, streaming to chromecast with netflix, hulu, google music, always listening Google, etc? I've lost track of the threads I've read and not read but I know I've read a few where certain things didn't work.
For now, If it ain't on XDA it ain't goin' on my phone.

Everything that wasn't streaming seems to have been fixed at this point. I know a lot of issues were related to a few ROM's who changed the Android System Version value from 5.0 to something custom like 5.0 + 5.0.1 hybrid and caused in compatibility with apps expecting 5.0 to be in that field.
