Custom ROMs and SD card space - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Does anybody know if a custom ROM is capable of freeing up some of that 7GB that Samsung has locked up from us?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-1337 using xda premium

Nope.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2

As of now, no.
We need a dev to redo our partition layout in their Rom...than and only than will we gain or lose space according to how the new partition is done

This question comes up a lot but so far I haven't seen anyone begin to address it. My sense is that only after the custom ROMs start to stabilize will more research be put into how to change the partitioning and freeing up the space.
Custom ROMs such as CM take much less room than the stock Touchwiz.

No touchwiz update

I just checked for the Touchwiz update and it said no update available. My word is bond and I have no time to argue.

why don't you just flash the touchwiz rom that's in the dev section?

Because I'm lazy and haven't gotten around to rooting the tab yet. I always want the easy way out.

if you are lazy for taking ONE minute to root that thing, what would you say about old rooting methods ? LOL
Not everyone wants to jump on the roms in the development section as yet. Especially with some of the issues that are being reported. Not many but enough to make me hesitate.

Ubuntu for Gs4

Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Hi! Im a noob and I dont mean to spam or anything like that but does anyone know if there is or if there will be unbuntu for the tmobile Gs4.Is it possible that there might be a zipfile that you could just flash ubuntu through recovery onto the Gs4. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Once there is a AOSP (or, more widely, primary used by Ubuntu, CyanogenMod) ROM/source code, your good to go to port it yourself, easily.

Yes I live in the u.s. I cant port it Im not a dev..
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
It's not too hard to port, with some googling and help from the community it should be possible.
If you live in the U.S. you have to think about CDMA and your phone carrier would have to do that. You could port it but it would be a waste of time.

Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 just got staple for the S4. I would be interested in having Ubuntu Touch on my S4 (international lte, jfltexx).
Lets see if I can do this even though I have never use C++ or done anything else on a OS.

What your're showing is normal. 2 Gb is what's allocated by android. You can't change that. You're usage is typical too. Android will try to use as much of the ram as it can. Unused ram is wasted ram.
I thought we all have swap .this is what I seen after OTA update

It's obvious that u cannot read, dligon.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm guess that you should wait until we get a leak ourselves or possibly the bootloader gets totally unlocked or by passed. or just flash one of the leaks back everything up and see what works or not.
Not quite the answer I'm lookin' for, but since u wanna be heard... Thank you for ur response!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
one you probably should state if your rooted or not. are you using this bootloader hack http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292157
and other things might be helpful. I've flashed most of the 9505 tw ROM 4.2 and had no problems with them have not tried any of the leaks or build off the leaks read that a few where having issues with wifi. I would probably just ask in the 9505 for if anyone has tried the leak.
There are a couple custom recovery (cwm, twrp...) flashable roms for the 4.3 leak.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467693 from T-Mobile section based on the first leak and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372286 in the international section based on the second leak

I am not mf3 so already running Jamison's 4.3 from TMO forum--running great--I love it
well maybe in a few weeks for the US variants. but I would not hold my breath with att and verizon they have to make sure the bootloader lockdown will be enforced and they can put all of their bloat. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_...g-galaxy-s4-gets-official-android-4.3-update/
We need the source posted so that devs can mod the stock kernel. Not anticipating an Att release this month for 4.3
Still more interested to see 4.4 drop for the 9505g. Looks like that was really what key lime pie was going to be.

Sprint roms

No roms for you grasshopper
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I think you are going to see a drastic decline in ROM development with all the Xposed apps out there.
Pretty easy to download Xposed and the apps you want. Then do your own mods. Easier to tailor it how you want it. IMO
There is stuff in the works but I need experienced testers for some of these.
One test, which can be done through Odin, I am about to post.
Well that sucks, I personal like finding a rom that has the features and everything. I really hope someone develops a aosp rom.

Device has only been out for a week. Beginning progress always takes a bit to kick in, but I already see some big names in here digging in. The galaxy devices almost always have a strong following. Patience?
