I currently have an HTC Vision and have tried running multiple different ROMs, each with different radio basebands and kernels. However, I seemingly have an issue in a specific spot with data, so I've come to the conclusion that it's not my phone. Basically, my phone will be blazing along on 4G/HSPA+ then all of a sudden BAM!, data stops and it says I'm on 3G yet nothing will load. I tried reporting it to T-Mo customer service, and the woman I spoke with the second time was just... well... retarded and I couldn't understand her Engrish, but what I did understand was "the towers shouldn't affect your data sir" ... really!?!? How do I get my data service then?? I don't know why T-Mobile has gone about hiring people who hardly speak English all of a sudden, but that was one of my favorite perks of T-Mobile... customer service I could understand. Should I try getting through to Customer Care?

I guess it really depends on how big the "dead" spot is and how much time you spend there. If it is a really specific spot, and you spend little time there, than no, I don't think it is really worth your time. Might be some strong interference nearby affecting that spot.
It's a broad general area, not a small specific location. Already called them about it and they found issues with the tower. Thanks for the reply though!
I would recommend to flash back to factory settings and then try to install whatever you want.
Twirl ... you're missing the point. It's only in one specific location. Not to mention, after 4 phonecalls to customer care and speaking with Tier 2 reps, it's been resolved. The tower in fact was malfunctioning. Problem solved.

How it work data speed & call from user to user around the coverage areas:
All the carriers has enhancements cell software to prioritized clients
What this means?
For example carriers has info of all cellphone units under first responders, if there is an incident in certaind and specific area of coverage, these user will have a priority to complete a call or uplink data versus the normal user
What does mean for a simple user as us?
Carriers are implementing this for the day to day use as follow, each client/account has a level of prioruty that depends on different aspects for example a commercial account is different from a family account, etc. An account with a basic plan is different from a Premiun add-on account and soo on.
So every cell has in real time what accounts are in that specific cell and prioritize depending on the level of the account
If you have the opportunity to have on hand a first responder unit cell do your self a test swaping SIMs and running tests
Or if you are under an big bucks executive commercial account do your own test swapping SIMs with a simple ones
So in other words our data/voice connections depends on these new tendencies "software enhancements cells"

Second that!
Did you ever hear about WPS (Wireless Priority Service) thats one example of the existing "enhancement cell software"
But is common on all the industries for example Airlines if you paid a premiun you can have a prioritized service, NO lines at the counter, add-on as VIP lounge, etc but at the end both customer fly on the same airplane
I am not trying to bash noone just to make a point that you can have two atrix or any other phone same model/maker side by side and run few test and you can easy noticed the difference between a normal account user and priority user in my case of test (first responder)
Main company for this software is located in TX so I am pretty sure is already been know for some people around the blog

Seriously, is there really only ONE roam contrl app out there? Planning to root because my signal at home blows. Spent the day checking out my options, and right now they seen very limited.

App called Roam Control is the best one I ever used. Worth the price. In my opinion.

It works and the dev is one of the most responsive i've ever seen (he lurks on xda, in fact he might post here) so......... Buy it.
Be sure to run roam control once before you need it to configure the license so you arent up the creek without a paddle in a low signal area as the app can't check the license without internet access.
Sent from my SPH-D720 using Tapatalk
Get an airave to fix the signal. Sprint will send you a free one.
You can use Qpst to force load a verizon prl. There is a thread on the evo forum walking you through it. I would say roam control will be much easier/better solution though because you can witch back and forth as needed. Using the vzw prl will force you onto the vzw network 100% of the time.

Not going to pay for an airave even though they say its free. Price for an app is not a problem. Every other type of app has more than one to choose from. I'm sure the dev is a good guy, I just like to have choices

I love the app, but I don't find the dev responsive from my only e-mail to him.
A couple of months ago, I sent him a note with a suggestion or two, and no response. I was kind of disappointed, but was just hoping that he read them and was going to implement them in a future relaese.
Why wouldn't you use an Airave ? You can call 877.775.4886 and let them know your signal blows at home. I use my Airave with four phones on it currently and it's great always having full bars and no dropped calls even in my basement. Give it a try...
I'm in an area with decent Verizon but crappy Sprint coverage. I've heard forcing roam is used to get booted sans ETF. I'd love to do it but don't wanna get a letter from Sprint. Whatdaya think?
Currently, only good roaming app is roam control.
Like above post said, there is way to manually load up 00001 Verizon PRL using QPST. There is a thread here or in dev section. This gives you good speed but you are on Verizon 100% of the time and I heard that Sprint might catch you and block 3G access somehow.
What I am using is 11115 PRL. This is Sprint PRL that let you roam 3G. Normally when there is Sprint tower nearby, this PRL will not let you roam, but using the app, I can force roam. I use it when Sprint is giving me ****ty data.

I am actually experimenting the possibility, but I think Sprint is blocking my access to Verizon 3G when I am trying. Whenenver I start to use heavy data stuff like netflix, the 3G roaming becomes unstable and disconnects. So I just use it when I am in need of data but Sprint is giving me way to slow connection.
I just wish our phones would react properly to Roam Control. I'm in Central Florida and apparently it only forces roaming to one frequency, not all frequencies.
Q: When I select "roam only", why does the phone have no signal?
A: Chances are you have a Samsung phone, right? Samsung phones have different behavior - when in "roam only", they only roam on the 800mhz frequency band. There are areas in the US that are 1900mhz only, which means that Samsung phones will not get a signal in those areas.

f'in Samsung screws me again.
Official cyanogen mod has a force roam feature built in. You just check the box and it roams uncheck and it stops roaming
Deca's cyanogen doesn't have that functionality yet, but it will when it becomes a part of official cm

It's a bug of the phone itself. I've been in areas where Verizon 1900 was present and no Sprint signal around. My son's Touch Pro 2 had full VZW signal and my Epic had zero signal.

Oh, I understand, it's just disappointing... I also used to have a TP2 and loved the working forced roaming on it... Funny how a 4yo phone has more functionality than a <previously> flaghship 4G phone... If the HTC Shift had a larger screen I would have gone with that.
One. Its not free. I'm paying 130 per month, shouldn't have to install tower and pay taxes on it. Two. Not into helping neighbors receive better signal by pigybacking on MY internet that I'M paying for.
My question is still the same. Is roam control the only app. Pretty sure its is good. Just like any other apps, some work better for some people and not other.

I've had an airave for 2 years the cost??? NADDA They even upgraded it to the Data model after I complained about having lousy data at home too.
You can control who has access to both your wireless network and your airave. I'm sure you already know that so I say TROLL
Well, cs said I would be paying the tax on it, and I couldnt control who has access. Still no answers on whether or not there are other apps.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That has been answered, I count, 3 times already. Just because its not the answer you're looking for, doesn't mean its not been answered.
So for the last time, yes, Roam Control IS CURRENTLY the only roaming app.
Yes you can control who accesses it. I currently only have family and friends numbers allowed to make calls. It is simple and the csr is an idiot. Nothing new.
Thank you zett, will call them back. As for the question being answered about other apps, it hasn't. It was only said roam control was the best, as if there is more than one. Not looking to ruffle feathers, but I am able to comprehend what is written. When it is said the only good roam control app is roam control, it implies the existence of others. A simple yes or no will have done. Thank you all, and may the best of the day find you.

Did I understand right? You don't know why when other people are in the same location as you, they sometimes get better reception than you, right?
Well, it can be because of your operator, your phone and even your location (even by few inches). Maybe you phone is switching towers too frequently, or is associating itself with a tower that's far from your location and your friends' phones are associated to a closer tower. It just could be that your phone has bad technology (my LG always has bad reception).
... or, as illustrated by Apple, you're just grabbing it the way it shouldn't be grabbed.

during the day it is fine good speeds at night between 5-10 o clock speeds drop to 512kps max..

Your speed also depends on the number of people using the tower you're connected to.
If people call/text during the day and use internet at night speed may drop at night

Well, the case might be the same on the different tower as well. It depends on how busy the tower currently is.

I joined Three last week and at times during the day I can get up to 21meg download and 3.5meg upload speeds but last night and again tonight from around 5pm I am only getting 500kb or less download and 1.75Meg upload. This is the case in different locations as I tested it on the way home from work and even stopped next to a Three cell tower so I had 100% signal and did a speed test and it was still terrible.
I wonder if phoning Three and moaning will do anything? I am on a Three business account so I need a reliable data for my business which I'm not getting so far!!
Mmm I have the same problem
Today while at work I was informed there is a way to utilize other cell towers on other networks to increase the signal of your device by changing the imei on your device constantly. I was wondering how this is done. I looked into it and the furthest I got was to use an app called uncle moble but 99% of it is in oriental writing so its basically useless to me. Any advice or help would be great
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app
That would be false hypothetically if it were possible to use sprint verizon and tmobile towers in such a mimo fashion your battery life would be severely shortened. Secondly in the newer phones imei is a unique hardware identifier bassicly like a mac address it would not be what allows connection to a tower that is the Sim card and apn to hypothetically use multiple providers towers you would need multiple Sim card and multiple accounts one on each carrier... and a radio capable of multiple concurrent connections. It is just not there hardware wise.
Currently cellphones connect to a tower via a hand shake they send a burst out on a set frequency and wait for a coded response that response will tell the phone in a data burst I'm here and some other info the phone will then shift into low power listen mode until you use it only shifting to higher consumption mode to maintain a call or send a burst. But during the low power states the phone sits and listens for a ping.
It isn't my first time hearing something like this though. My father is a detective and I remember him working a case that his department had a hard time working bc the persons cell phone location kept changing every couple of minutes. Not minor changes, im talking like it would ping a tower in louisiana and a couple minutes later ping a tower in cali and jumped speratic like that. I'm curious how he did that and how its done

In the early days of cell phones (pretty much through the 90's) there were ways to "clone" a phone and as long as both phones (or 3 or 4 or whatever) were not "online" at the same time...the system would report where one of the clones is/was.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to do that anymore....but it might as well be impossible with current systems.
