AirPlay Equivalent - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just switched from iOS after 4-5 years and got an S4, , must say I'm pretty enjoying the customization and the air gestures probably more than I should be. One feature I miss from iOS is AirPlay just because I could stream YouTube vids to the big TV on guy night get togethers. Friend told me to check out this forum as the "biggest android forum", so I here I am. Ive seen Miracast mentioned a fair bit around here and was wondering if that's the best way?
No Smart TV, just an ordinary Samsung 42"er.
Live in the UK if that matters.
Cheers.

Or use the YouTube app and pair it with your tv, you need a smart tv or a console that can download like an Xbox ect

[Q] Airplay pandora?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I can't find a straight answer.
I'm a huge apple person (i know it's like a nazi asking a black man for directions) but I got it for more like a home entertainment device, I love android, but I still need my iPhone as my actual phone but I love having the nexus 7 around. I have an AppleTV hooked up to my receiver in my family room but I can't figure out if or how to stream Pandora (or anything) to the AppleTV. I've read it can be done but I haven't seen how!
You can try an app called twonky beam. I don't know Pandora, but twonky works as a standalone product or on other apps that use the share feature of android.

Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv?

Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv? I want to see what's on my nexus on my TV. I have been reading for almost 3 hours doesn't look like you can. Please help. I know Samsung cords dont work because n7 doesn't support mhl at all, miracast probably won't happen to us at least any time soon, nexus q will only stream your videos and not mirror whats on ur screen, and there's some thing pi rasp idk exactly what's its called. Is there anything that works? Sorry there's probably a thread about this I scrolled down for 10 mins and didn't find one. I will update my first post with any findings to help anyone easier.
Thanks everyone!

too much trouble for me to do though
There is if you have an AppleTV, it's called AppleTV Air Play Media Player by Zappotv and it's in the Google Play Store. It's pretty cool it uses Apple's Air Play protocol to send your Nexus screen's picture or video to your big screen TV.

[Q] TV Out?

I do a lot of YouTube commentary while playing games and would like to try a Nova 3 or Modern Combat 4 walkthrough, just for sng's as nobody seems to be doing it for android games too much. I've been using BBQ screen with my PC and the framerates are good enough to consider using it, but the quality is awful at low settings (naturally) and anything higher than around 65 drops frames below 20fps on the receiver side and still looks really dodgy. Reading up on the subject of MHL and there is apparently no support for this on the RAZR m. What about the 3.5 mm RCA adapters? Or is MHL actually supported? Is there any other way of recording my screen and retaining half decent quality and framerate without theuse of a camera pointed at my screen? ZScreen and screen cast also don't work
There isn't any way to do TV out on the RAZR M (other than VNC)
Maybe someone will adapt screen sharing on chromecast.

And VNC is pretty much a slideshow. As far as I know chromecast already has screen sharing. Like, isn't that the point of the thing? Lol

My bad, the word I was looking for was device mirroring. All that the chromecast does (at the moment) is stream videos from YouTube, content from your Google account and Netflix. All your phone does is serve as the remote control.

Ah I see. Maybe if that becomes a thing I'll be more inclined to take a look at a chromecast
I had HDMI out on my prior device, and I used a grand total of one time in the phone's 2+ years of usage.
it's nice to have, but I never needed it, as other, easier options were available.

Video player

Hi
Please help me with this -I've a Samsung galaxy s3 and a new Samsung LCD TV.
So most of the videos I can stream from my s3 to the TV via dnla as long as they're in the same WiFi networks.
Now I just got my new nexus thinking I'll be able to do the same. But chrome starts play inn these videos directly
On the webpage and I don't have any way to stream this to the TV.
On s3, it used too play it on the video player that comes with the android os.
How do I do this on nexus? The wireless display doesn't find my TV at all

N7 supports miracast. You need miracast support for wireless.
So do I need to buy miracast dongle?

Chromecast dongle could be another choice?
Look for "Pixel Media Server" on Playstore.
I use it to stream via DLNA to my Samsung tv, since my S4 is running on AOSP.

Thanks guys!!

Uses for the IR blaster on the HTC m8

Hi there people
I have my HTC m8 a few days now and I am absolutely happy with it so I was playing around with it and noticed that you can create custom IR commands with the tv app
So I went on and grabbed my RC helicopter and its IR remote and started configuring it and boom!
It went flawless I could control the helicopter with my phone!
So I was wondering does anybody have anything else that can be done with the IR blaster?
Post down below I'd like to hear

I did that with my M7 last year. The bar went nuts! I've noticed now many bars have put black tape over the IR receiver to stop my fun!
I have mine setup to contol the lighting on my PC, and to turn on/off a relay to power my chromecast (I use a PC monitor so no ir on it). It's also nice to just not have to find a remote for the TVs around my house since I rarely touch them.

The first way you can just do the unknown device and program it yourself, but that sucked for layout so i got a free appletv ir app off google play. Much easier and same setup as an apple tv remote.

How'd you do this?
I use Smart IR Remote application. It's gives you tons of options for setting up different types of remotes. There other DSLR only apps out there too.

Can we push the envelope of this thread a little further?
1. Which are the best Play Store apps for IR apps, it seems the two would be: IR Blaster, and Smart IR Remote? Comments anyone?
2. Has anyone applied any super geek/scientific inquiry research to the output in these IR units? What amount of lumens/rads/calories does our unit put out....vs the S5,S4, M7 etc units output?
I ask because the HTC TV app doesn't work the way I want it for my Home Theater components, and I can't seem to use it to drive my A/C units.

Well I can tell you that the smart IR Remote is very pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Don't have that many obscure devices, but everything I have thrown at it (Tv's, home cinema, the usual stuff) have all worked flawlessly.
The library has got me covered thus far.
I also use Smart ir remote. It can be a littly quirky to set up, but it has by far the best interface.
It is also super configurable. I have it set up for every device in my home. In fact it actually enabled me to access the service menu on my LG TV and enable movie playback from USB. I tried loads of others, but this is the most polished and complete.
