Do any of you guys think that Samsung releasing a Google edition will help their other phones such as this get future os updates any quicker. Maybe Google will let them and HTC get a glimpse of the code faster? Thoughts?

I doubt it. I'm sure Google lets Samsung/HTC take a look at upcoming code and builds of Android. I don't know how much work they'd really put into it until the next version is "finalized" by Google. After that, Samsung/HTC has to finish putting their custom touches on the phone, test it, then submit for carrier approval... who then has to put their custom touches on it, test it, before finally pushing it out.
In short, no, I don't think it'll matter.
I was thinking of getting one but I can buy two n4's one white and one black for just about the same price. Hmmm
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but why not buy the AT&T version of the S4 and flash the Task650 rom? Way more customization than the stock google experience can offer.

yup. i think users would be surprised how quickly they'd get bored on their google edition s4's and end up rooting/flashing anyways.
Tasks Roms are the sh!$ lol. That's prob what I will do

I'm currently in the US with Sprint and a Samsung galaxy s3. I love the phone, but absolutely hate the Sprint service.
I've considered the n4 for a long time and wondered if I should bite the bullet and get the T mobile white version...or get the Google play store version.
I understand the difference in cost, but I'm more unaware of any hardware, software, or performance differences anyone has felt. Can anyone elaborate on this? Thank you in advance.

Hardware is the same. sofware from Google will be better than T-Mobile....but you can always rom...what is your question again?......no the little nubs dont help battery life....No the white color wont help battery life....No the T-Mobile logo wont affect cpu/gpu performance....
Well my question was to see if their is any reason to choose the T-Mobile n4 over the Google playstore version basically.
I didn't take into account that the T-Mobile version would still get delayed updates, so that's good to know.
I also just recently read that someone was having problems using the playstore version on T-Mobile's network...anyone know much more about this?

Get the phone from Google Play and get the $50 monthly payment from T-Mobile. It will be cheaper going this way. Nice thing is if you don't like T-Mobile, you can always use other mvo's.

Dident hear or read anything...Most cell companies modify their software...if T-Mobile don't...then that's great.
I am going to buy the Google S4 when it is released on the 26th. Does anyone know what time Google normally puts up new devices for sale? I want to make sure I get one early in case they sell out.
Also will XDA have a Google Edition Device forum?
It should be up in the play store tommorow.

Official AOSP also be devices that were purchased through Google?
Lol can't wait to build it for my i9505
I'm betting it will be released around noon, US time. (GMT-6 to GMT-9) I think.
With 4.3 out now was the wait to long compared to nexus devices? I for one am completely satisfied that it didn't take to long.

There was literally a week's turn around. How can anyone be unhappy with that? Fingers crossed that they keep it up. Any indication on if the update came from HTC or Google?
People are unhappy with the turn around on sense based roms. We haven't gotten one of those yet.
Porting aosp with some modifications to a device is relatively easy, especially if it's the manufacturer of the device.

I was very shocked when it dropped on Friday. My wife's Nexus 7 didn't get it until last night.
I was so happy and surprised I decided to convert mine over to GPE rather than wait for sense version updates.
This was the fastest update I have ever received!!
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
yea can't be mad with a 1 week turn around time on AOSP. I wonder what other changes they will do in the sense 4.3 update other than the 4.3 changes.
This is easily the most positive press HTC has EVER received regarding an update. Google/Samsung/HTC did a great job. Let's hope they keep it up.

I was very surprised that they got 4.3 out so quickly.
Hats off to Google, Samsung and HTC for releasing 4.3 so quickly for these phones.
Very relieved to see the fast update on the gpe.

Does it strike anyone else as surprising that HTC are so keen to update the google edition of their phones, but knowingly take forever to update sense. Or would this be some sort of software agreement with google?

I'm not making excuses for them... But it is way easier to update the vanilla android experience than it is to do the same for sense. They have to build and test sense on top of these updates. They still haven't updated all the unbranded unlocked devices or developer editions running sense.
Add carrier testing on top of that...

Well everyone wants to be different with their skins.
I have an upgrade available and am considering moving from the One to the SGS 4.
I'm on AT&T. From what I've been reading, and I've been reading for a while now, if my SGS 4 comes with the latest firmware out of the box, I can root it, but Loki, therefore custom ROMS and recovery are out. Is this correct?
I was hoping to be able to put the Google edition ROM on the SGS 4.
Someone please set me straight.
Please and thanks
Correct, if it has the latest firmware than no flashing roms

The firmware version is on the side of the box, if I am not mistaken. I just got my S4 shipped directly from AT&T. It came with MDL.

And mdl is what I want right?
If you want to install custom ROMs, yes.
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda premium
Typically, at least from what ive seen, the ATT box will have an "Updated" sticker on it if the firmware has been updated. My GS3 had that.
I have both the One and the S4. I don't think I'd give up the one for the s4.

Just go to the store and ask the sales tech to find one that ends in MDL and NOT one that ends in MF3.
It sounds crazy or embarrassing, but it is not! Certainly it is not illegal or wrong to do this.
Others have done that and the AT&T folks really don't care, or if they do select another sales person or even another store (like Best Buy or even Costco and Radio Shack! Those other stores may even have better insurance plans than AT&Ts!)
(As to which phone. ...the HTC One is prettier, and it is unique in design, but would you be happy with less/slower ram, no changeable battery, no SD card, and a smaller screen? The S4 also has some very nice camera options that seem (to me at least) a bit better than the HTC One. Of course, it is all personal preference . . )
Good Luck!
So anyone know a rumor or have a link or some go ol inside Intel when we can expect to see 4.4 being pushed or leaked?

HTC One 90 days from today. Note 3? Years.
Probably by the Note 5 well have it

I laughed when I saw "Htc One will get 4.4 in 90 days" in the US. That's just plain not gonna happen. Sprint HTC One just got 4.3 when I left for this Note and At&T. I imagine it will be a while before any phone with a skin (Sense, Touchwiz, etc) gets 4.4.
Yea more then likely not until the next note comes out.

Install the Google Experience Launcher and your pretty much good to go. Most of the apk are out and about as well. I have the new Hangouts and Keyboard apks running just fine on my bone stock Note 3. The only thing missing is being able to talk to the phone, which would wear off for me after the novelty set in

The developer version will get it in 30 days. So the HTC One Max will be the first phablet to be getting 4.4. That sucks. For us anyways.

You have the Google launcher installed and are not able to say the hot word on the home screen to launch a search right? That's the state I'm in but the first time I installed it I had the "OK Google now" hot words working and I could search without button pressing. The I got greedy and installed almost everything I could from the dump and it went downhill from there. Had to reinstall stock with root to get back to a clean state and now I Dont have the hot word functionality...boo

What phones? The One? Porting a rom on an S-offed phone does not count as HTC delivering 4.4 with Sense 5.5 in 90 days to all US versions. It will be impressive if it's done, but give their (and every other phone with a skin) track record, I don't see it.
AT&T will probably deliver 4.4 when Google rolls out its next version. Hell phones like the S4 and One just got 4.3 weeks ago I believe. I already have 4.4 running on my Nexus 4 perfectly thanks to the guys here who ported the Nexus 5 Build.
