You can try pulling out the antenna (black wire) ... It worked for me and now I have very good WiFI signal on my MK802iv ... be careful to not modify the mount on the end of black wire (yellow stuff and some kind of sticky shield)
... or you can use the ethernet connection via USB ethernet adapter ; I used it until I've done wifi antenna mod
before I did the wifi antenna mod, the device restarted every 2-3 seconds when wifi was on
can any other users chime in ? would love to hear about updating to 4.2 and if they have worked out the wifi bugs ? also is the antenna necessary ? if it worked with 4.1 why would it need a hardware mode with 4.2 to work ?
tanks,,
fun
[i have this one and works just perfect
I buy the ethernet usb port. Ill see wen aribed how it works.

Does the HDMI 5.1 Audiooutput work?
doesn't work
All MK802IV since 07/2013 have a new WiFi Chipset.
It is the same like in the Tronsmart 908 it is the AP6120 Singelband WiFi Chip.

I wonder if this new chipset provide better wifi than older one with modded antena (pulled outside the RKM box)
I have tested it and yes the WiFi Signal is better. But now we need a new CRom for it.

Mine came with Android 4.2. Had the Wifi issues. Worse was that the Netflix did not play properly due to DRM issues. The latest version played videos distorted... you can see only lines!
Some suggestions where to downgrade the Netflix. The previous version plays videos but it will get stuck every minute.

Got mine few days back and loving it. Too bad I cannot try NetFlix since its not available in our area. No Wifi issues....It's strong and I can stream all the videos from my NMT to my Home Theater enabled using MK802
Is DTS/AC3 HDMI passthrough working?
Did anyone try to boot linux/ubuntu via the micro-sd card?
Another question: does it play mkv files?

There are various threads on the dedicated UK forum http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 about native Linux. I was intending to try it as I want audio passthough and real 1080p decoding
So is this device any good?
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if this device any good? or is the Amlogic 8726 MX a better option?
thanks

This could be due to the ROM I'm using (Primee-P9 David's mod), but I tried using Rockplayer Lite to watch a video on my TV through HDMI and there was no Audio. Is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps there is a setting you are missing (I found rockplayer to be the most problematic player possible for the a500 with the exception of the crappy Acer apps that are preinstalled) - but HDMI carries audio and video only on receivers called HDMI switching or HDMI repeater, from my experience.
Try MX player, and if that fails, try a alternative receiver so we can figure out the source of your problem.

Thanks, I should've tried different apps to see if it was my tablet or the app. It won't be the problem of the receiver, as I'm plugging it straight into a TV :-D. Hoping its not an HDMI cable problem, I just got this cable from monoprice and I don't have another micro HDMI device to check it with. Thanks!

But it might be the problem of the receiver - your TV is acting as a decoder/receiver and depending on what company produced it and what standards it supports......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
Don't just assume a bad cable before trying a alternative receiver (TV) - plug it into a friends system with known good HDMI and see if that works.
Best of luck, hope you get it working
Well, I've used this HDMI port many times before and it works fine, which is why I was saying that the cable has a possibility of it being bad, but I'll try it on another TV as well just in case.

Always a good idea - that way you know for sure if you have a bad cable.
Hello all
Im thinking of buying either a mk809 or an mk908 and have a few questions:
1: I have an Atrix4g work and play kit (Bluetooth keyboard and mouse), would this work with the mk809 or 908?
2: The MK908 quad core is more expensive than the dual core, is it worth it? It would be used for playing ripped movies, BBC Iplayer, working on google docs and possibly running ubuntu, if possible.
3: I've just ordered a note 2 and would like to use allshare, I know that these device aren't compatible but will they work using DLNA?
4: Would they stream movies from my PC hard drive over the wifi network, assuming the wifi speeds were upto it?
Sorry if these questions have already been cover somewhere already.
Thanks for any help

Well, since I don't have a TV with HDMI, I was really hoping I could run my OUYA on my computer monitor with an HDMI to DVI cable. I do get picture, but the resolution is horrible. I've contacted support about this, but have not received a reply in over a month. Apparently I am not the only one with this issue as it can be found all over the support forums. Not sure if it's a resolution issue or HDCP issue or something else, but I'm hoping some enterprising dev can figure it out.
On the same note, since my monitor doesn't have speakers and an HDMI audio extractor is about the same price as the OUYA, it'd be nice to be able to use a USB DAC to output audio to my desktop speakers. Apparently the SGS3 has it enabled, it just isn't in the stock android kernel yet: See Android Issue 24614
Anybody working on this or heard directly from OUYA support?

The resolution isn't an OUYA specific problem, it's the same on many devices. I believe it does have to do with HDCP. I know there are some people out there with similar situations as you that have a converter cable that works, but it's not very common. IMO this is something I believe they never thought would come up was a problem that seems to be more common than not.
And yes, any type of converter box or audio splitter is going to cost you. the HDMI to Component box that I was looking at that I heard works costs 150, so it's not really worth it.
As for the sound over USB, I haven't heard of that yet for OUYA, but I know it was actually part of android starting with 4.1. That does not mean it works with the OUYA, however, as it seems only a few phones/tablets actually have the ability. If you have a micro USB to USB adapter, you might try it through that, but other than that not sure if there's any options.
I was really hoping this thing would have a AUX port, but it doesn't. I know there's some devs working on pushing sound and video from android over a network, but it's still in early stages and as far as I know no one has it working yet.
Really hope someone finds a good workaround. I don't particularly want to buy a TV just for this little box.
Well this is interesting...I just installed CWM, and while in recovery it shows full screen and looks rather nice. This must mean that it's not an inherent problem with my screen or connection, but is something do do with the software. This makes a work-around seem feasible, no?
Just found a reply in the StockPlus thread in the Dev section, but thought I'd repost here since I don't have 10 posts yet and can't reply there:

This one, from what I understand it's Android compliant, so it just needs the standard USB Audio modules. I know the Nexus 7 got it working with certain kernels that had the necessary modules loaded. Jellybean was supposed to make this easy, but it's been hit or miss on which ROMs have the files.

The issue with this is that the Ouya looks for screenmodes of 1920x1080p and 1280x720p in the monitor EDID.
Failing this, it reverts back to a letterboxed 640x480 screenmode.
There's a thread here with more info.
I have an old monitor that runs 1600x900 I use it on next to my computer just to root. If I could make it use 1280x720 and my logitech usb sound card I'd get more use from the ouya as it's now hooked to a shaerd TV. I can run my PS3 and xbox on the monitor at 1280x720 and get sound from the av outputs.

Good info on that thread, too bad nobody has seemed to make much progress though. My monitor is capable of up to 1920x1200 and supports 1280p and 720p resolutions. Sounds like the solution is either to get the EDID talking correctly, or hack in a way to override the OUYA settings and change the resolution manually.
I am running a HDMI Audio Switch (Ligawo HDMI Audio Switch ~35€) using a hdmi-cable between ouya and switch and a hdmi-dvi cable to connect the switch with my computer monitor. The switch comes with a cinch-output that is connected with my 2.0 Amplifier.
Funnily enough the switch also solves the resolution problem, I still have when connecting the ouya with my monitor via hdmi-dvi cable. Now my monitor runs brilliant on 720p.

I bet the switch provides some EDID spoofing. Most do in order to keep display sources from freaking out when the display is disconnected and reconnected.
Glad to hear it works...hopefully that means it's less of an issue with HDCP and more to do with EDID. I'd rather not have to buy a switch that is almost as expensive as the console itself when DVI and USB audio (in my opinion) should work out of the box. Hopefully the OUYA devs get around to adding support, but I have more hope for the XDA chefs.

I just bought such a Ligawo device, and whenever I plug in the HDMI-DVI cable, the OUYA seems to turn off sound via HDMI, seemingly because al that digital stuff is so "clever" it knows that DVI doesn't do sound. At least that's what I think, and one of the customer reviews on the device on Amazon (the link I cannot -yet- post here, grmbl) confirms it, kind of.
You don't have that problem?

Not out of the box as 90% of such kind of devices. You need to load firmware from other devices with same chip which support 5.1, not fully supporting all the z68 hw components though, and use modified versions of kodi to support rockchip rk3368.

So if I'm looking for a mediaplayer to play all sorts of videofiles (MKV, MP4, DVD-structure, etc.) with support for surround-sound, this is not the box I'm looking for. Any other suggestion?

Have a look at freaktab com forums, section tv players. As to the rockchip based android tv players the best supported seems to be nagrace, zidoo and ugoos devices. May be other chipsets such as amlogic are better or even an intel/windows based device.

The device does not turn off by design. It hasn't got a physical power button and it will only go in stanby with the power on remote. The only way to put it off is to pull off the power cable.
I have not tested it with hdmi-cec cause the tv where i have it attached at the moment does not support cec.
Bought one works great, better than the Fire Stick I was using.
I just received this box and while it's mostly working fine I have stutter and audio sync issues using Netflix, HBO and to some extent YouTube. Plex and Kodi works perfectly though.
Anyone got an idea what could be causing it? Wifi speed is consistently strong, so I'm thinking it's some kind of HDMI issue. I've tried a different cable but that didn't help
I have been using this box for a few weeks now, and I've noticed that a firmware update is badly needed. Can anyone direct me to where I can get a firmware update for this box? It doesn't display 4k, doesn't detect USB drives, or allow access to them, "I've tried several". There are several other issues that I don't remember at the moment as well... Thanks for any help... Ohh yeah, and it would be great to run apps off the micro SD and not the 2x internal storage spaces, they filled up within the first few days...lol

Ordered mine from the European warehouse of Gea*best( althoght they took 10 days to ship it, 2 more to arrive in Belgium).
Arrived and when I boot it up it works for about 4 minutes; then it locks up.
Unplug the power, plug it again and it locks up even before the launcher.
Any clue about where to get a firmware before send it back?
Thanks in advance.

I am cyber7 from freaktab and there is a very "lightweight" release for this box that strips it to a no-nonsense device you can use. Go have a look!
Thank you both for the reply! After this post and some more searching I found cyber7
Yesterday evening I opened the box and installed a motherboard chipset cooler I had around and the freezes stopped at least during the 25 minutes I had it running. The 1 mm aluminium "cooler" the chip brings is really for laughing...
That said I will try @aubreykloppers 's stripped down version soo: thanks man for your really good work. if it works good, i'll buy you the coffee

The light release is very quick and runs without a "heat cooler"
I have been running mine (with Kodi and an active Launcher) for about 2 weeks non-stop and have no heat problems. That said, dispersing heat is never a bad idea, unless you are from Antarctica
after a few attempts a cant make the pc detect this or other older box I have from a friend. Is there a SD card method? I already went on the recovery but there is no option to flash from sd...
Just bought this box so I could stream Kodi to my TV, among other things. I tried the Leelbox prior to this, but it was kind of slow and prone to freezing up at times.
So I bought this box because of the better specs, and now I am having a hell of a time trying to navigate on this thing. In some apps, it's impossible to navigate because I can't even see where I'm clicking. I can't even get into the Play Store because it seems to be impossible to click the "accept" button. I have to install all my apps through the browser using Aptoide, and even then that's not a great workaround because, yet again, I can't even see where I'm clicking. Navigating this thing so far is a complete guessing game. I can't believe there's no "mouse" mode on this like the Leelbox had. I'd love to know how you were able to get into the Play Store. Any help or tips???
Use a normal pc usb mouse wired or wireless. Then buy an air mouse remote very soon.

Damn... the cable I bought on ebay had 1 broken wire, that's why the box wasn't found by the computer...
After making a cable it was well found :victory: flashed and running.
and still freezing even with the super mega hiper light version... Should I flash it again?

Use a normal pc usb mouse wired or wireless. Then buy an air mouse remote very soon.

Thanks, I figured that would have to be the case just looking at other people's videos of the box; they were all using mice. So I bought a cheap USB mouse from Walmart and no issues! I was able to sign in and access the Play Store, as well as use the browser normally. It's kind of annoying that a cursor mode wasn't included on the remote, but hey, I'm not complaining, especially since this box performs much better than the Leelbox for my needs. =)
Hi all,
Recently bought a shield to go with my panasonic cx802 4k TV..
I plugged it all in booted the nvidia logo popped up then black screen... Nothing I tried swapping ports restarting etc nothing.., so I hooked it up to monitor and went though new install changed the HDMI res setting to 720p un plugged and went back to my pana which now did display a picture... Problem is I cannot select a res higher that 720p which I'm finding really annoying.. Can any one help?
Guys I know it's my first post I'm not a total noob.. Just started a new name..
Would a fix for this be to install a custom ROM where I can more control??
Any advice welcome
You shouldn't need that! Btw have you got other sources hooked to your tv, BR player, AND have you tried the sat channel in 4k?
Edit: Saw a reply from @Koying regarding you must not uncheck SURFACE rendering but that was regarding Kodi, to have 4k working. You didn't mention Kodi, though!
Edit2: Have you tried disabling Cec control, if you had it enabled before?

Are you using the at least a HDMI 1.4 cable?
Hey guys, i have the same problem.
I think it's a real thing : https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/918948/shield-android-tv/stuck-at-720p-after-update/
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...shield-tv-stuck-at-720p60hz-max-on-4k-screen/
hen, i started my shield TV, and it was in 720p. When i try to change this on the system HDMI menu, i just have choice between 3 720P option.
I tried a brand new cable 2.0, same problem.
I reinstall my TV and my shield TV, same problem.
On a french forum i found someone talking about an Edid corruption, but i don't know what that's thing.
I couldn't test on another screen because i don't have one. I can read 4k movie with my popcorn hour on the same HDMI port, with the same hdmi cable as the shield TV.
Do you have a lead about a solution ?
Thanks !

EDID is the signature the TV send to connected device so the device know what the TV can do.
So if the EDID is corrupted or unknown to the device it will default to 720p or 1080p. IMO
Maybe you can perform a firmware upgrade on your TV and see if their will reset the TV itself . Check their support site.
Good luck.
Extended display identification data (EDID) is a data structure provided by a digital display to describe its capabilities to a video source (e.g. graphics card or set-top box). It is what enables a modern personal computer to know what kinds of monitors are connected to it.
Thank you, i did perform a firmware update just before the problem happen on my TV.
Maybe a downgrade could be a solution, i have no idea on how i can do that on philips TV
I tried to do a full install with nvidia img, but i never pass the "please wait .." steps
i could perform a hard reset of my tv, reflashing the first version of the firmware.
Still the same problem.
I will ask Nvidia for a RMA

Filty21 on another forum found a solution here's the solution, i'm trying :
I had the same problem: you have to factory reset your shield on other device like xbox one pass-through. I explain:
First let the Shield connected to your tv and try to factory then at popup confirmation click ok.
Second disconnect hdmi cable to connect it at an other device (xbox or receiver...). Let the shield in this state during 10 min.
Finally reconnect the shoeld to your tv. You will have choices resolution...
Hello.
I do not understand what you are talking about. Could you be clear? I have that same problem
I'm having the same problem on my Phillips tv

I'm 99% certain the problem lies with your HDMI cable. Get a HDMI 2.0 or higher cable. A 1.4b cable by design doesn't support higher resolutions with a high refresh rate. It could do 4k but at 30hz only. 2.0 will support 4k , 2.0a will support 4k with HDR.
