Searching for Modifications, Roms etc

Hi,
I like the new fast website!
I wondered whether we could have an FAQ or Link or Sticky with instructions on how to search for items.
Specifically I wanted to find out about overclocking issues with an XDA2i (Alpine), and I was surprised that seaching for Alpine and overclocking gave so few hits.
I am fairly naive on these matters so excuse me if I'm asking a daft question, or have missed something obvious. I just thought some example would help me and others.
Thanks

read the wiki it will help you with many questions

WM6.5 - noobs guide?

Hey all, firstly great site you've got here! LOTS (too much for me!) of info on here that goes right over my head!
Righty....basically, I want to install 6.5, and I've read lots and lots of threads on here, but there doesnt seem to be a simgle thread that will talk me through it in step by step - there's talk of USPL etc etc and I'm just rather confused!
Anyways, I'm tech savvy, but just not in the mobile world - I've done a lot of modding of other gadgets, and obviously numerous OS installs/homwbews/builds etc.....but phones are new to me!
Can someone point me to a dummies guide??
Thanks in advance!!
M

The wiki is good as a general source, but for flashing what you need is all here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377 (It is your step by step Dummies Guide)
Read the first few posts a couple of times and then if you have any questions ask them there and I or one of the other senior members will try our best to answer you. It looks difficult, but it is not that difficult at all. But it's best to at least try to understand what is happening when you are flashing, there are far to many that rush in and flash before taking the time to read up or even try to understand what they are about to do to their lovely expensive device.

[Q] New Guide Suggestion / Request

Hi -
I'm new to all of this ... reading FAR more than posting and trying to learn enough to ask intelligent questions.
I've found the existing guides very helpful, but there's one that I haven't found [yet] ... if it already exists, please accept my apology in advance for missing it ... if it doesn't exist, I think it would be a great addition to this forum: a glossary of 'cooking' & related terms and abbreviations.
Thanks again for all of the info,
-dmm
Here are a couple sites to check out:
Xdasite: this has a lot of basic rom cooking info; it's old, but has definitions if you look around.
PPCKitchen: Look up RStoyguy's tutorials; again, they're a little dated, but are very good and explain all of the basics.
Thank you!
I'll start with these ... additional info always welcome ...

You could also have a quick read around the xda wiki, specifically in the Acronyms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Acronyms, Glossary: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Glossary, and FAQ section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ.
I'm not sure how useful you'll find it, but there is some good info there.
Thanks!
More good material ...

When I started, I found vogella.com is a very useful resource. It's even easier to understand and implement than the official Android page.
In my experience, in general, it's easier to study somethings when you have to actually do things with an ultimate goal in mind than just learning for the sake of learning. For example, create a (simple) app that you will want to upload it to Google Play.

Hey dude I would recommend you to learn Android Java which of course is quite similar to C# of .NET which you can learn quickly.
There are many video tutorials like SlideNerd by Vivz https://www.youtube.com/user/slidenerd which is very very useful in learning android.
Also the mybringback by http://www.mybringback.com/series/android-basics which is also quite awesome.
There is also an App which I created for beginners like you "ON THE GO APIHelp" http://sourceforge.net/projects/onthegoapihelp/ which you can refer once you feel comfortable with Android Java which will give you a great kick start in developing basic applications.
All the Best for Beginning Android
Do Click on thanks if my reply helped you
For a newbie, I think to watch video is the proper way, but when you get some improvement you need turn to books and blogs.
