I'm running StreakDroid and haven't replaced any kernels and just tested how many multi touch points this mini tablet supports.
Sad to say, it only supports 2 multi touch points, pretty sorry for a device with such a nice big 5 inch LCD display!
Anyone getting anything different?
Is this being limited by the hardware or software?
I have yet to encounter a time when I have needed more than two... So pretty sorry for a 5" screen? Can you instead tell me when you would need more than two?

Using a piano or guitar app? I also just downloaded 4 player reactor which is perfect for a phone this size.
I think its a software limitation. I've never thought I needed more but I do play 2 player reactor and was thinking of getting 4 as both games are truly great on the 5" screen. But guess that's out or the question now.

Also, playing some games ... would be nice to have a third:
Joystick input, accelerator input, fire gun input = need 3 inputs
Movement, Look, Fire = 3 inputs
So, I could see a few places where having more than 2 inputs is nice.
Anyone know of an app that basically disables the touch? My son watchers his mickey mouse videos on my tablet but has a tendency to smack the screen and pause it. Been searching but can't find anything that suites my needs. Any suggestions are very welcome

Try this if your rooted if you are not rooted I'm thinking you can't do anything about your status bar.
And to disable your whole screen I'm not really sure ill do some digging around.

MX Video player has an option to lock the screen during video playback, once locked the only way to unlock it is by touching a button in the top left corner. You could use this in conjunction with honeybar.
Good looks Jon I didn't know that thanks man

This came with the recent update. Neat feature and does help when the yun'guns are watching movies.
Yes once I've found my new daily driver ill be glad to incorporate this as my 1yr old can hold his finger back from touching the tablets screen..

Hi,
A friend of mine has a big Kindle. I can never get over how amazingly book-like that thing looks.
Is there a screen protector or film that I can put on my thrive that will make it look (at least a little) more like a kindle when I read books on the thrive? Permanent or not.
Thank you.

One of the primary uses for the Nexus 7 will be as an eReader. To that end I was wondering if anyone conform whether the android Kindle app is compatible with the Nexus 7.

No reason it wouldn't be, along with the B&N Nook app, Kobo, etc., etc.

You should definitely be able to use the Kindle app, as well as the Amazon AppStore, and the Amazon MP3 store.
I assumed as much I just wanted to be 100% sure as that's where all my books are ;-)

Kindle app on Nexus 7 and an actual Kindle side-by-side would be a nice comparison, if anyone can comment on that.
I could have tonight. I forgot to do it tho.

The best kindle experience is available not on kindle fire rather it is available on Kindle iPad app. The interactive magazines on kindle store does not appear so interactive on kindle fire however the same magazine is very interactive on kindle iPad app. This is kind of surprising but true and I know because I have both. Also the iPad screen has better aspect ratio in order to fit the magazine fully in the screen whereas on kindle fire it does not fully fit the screen because of 16:9 aspect ratio and same is the case with Nexus 7. You can read magazines without much zoom on iPad as compared to any 16:9 screen ratio table which includes not only the 7 inch but the 10 inch tablets as well. I use to own Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I know how good the magazines used to look on iPad as compared to Tab 10.1.
Don't worry though I myself have order Nexus 7 for myself but I won't be using it for reading though. I wanted a 7 inch Tegra 3 tablet for gaming so thats what I am going to do on it. I hope that games would be compatible with 4.1 soon. The biggest problem with Android Eco System i.e. app compatibility on multiple devices.

That might be true for magazines, but for ebooks I've found a 7" in portrait to be ablout perfect. It just about equals a single paperback page, and is very easy to old for longer periods of time. Text on my iPad is excellent, but it gets heavy after awhile and I don't like the Kindle 2-page format in landscape. And the iPad is positively ungainly in portrait.

Play Books apps is nicer than the Kindle Android app, but, I think I'll do my book shopping on the Kindle store because it's very easy to strip DRM and share with others in my household. I haven't been able to find a solution to make Play Books DRM free/share with others I'd share a physical book with otherwise.

I agree that play books has a better ui, but I keep both on it as I use the kindle app to side load the books I already own, if I don't find a book on the play store for a great deal I also tend to buy them on kindle since its multiplatform.

Yes that's what I said in my post as well that books are ok with 7 inch tablet but magazines are not so exciting. For books 7 inch is ideal size. Kindle magazines for Android Kindle are most not interactive although same magazine when downloaded on iPad is interactive. It is kind of strange because the Kindle app for iPad is also made by Amazon and why would amazon make a better app for iPad as compared to Kindle fire. It confuses me. The Kindle for Android is same as for fire.

Can anyone provide screenshots of the same book/page on the Nexus 7 and a Kindle e-ink device. Just wondering if I'm going to still want an e-ink device for reading in addition to my N7.
Thanks.

I'll be keeping my Kindle as the e-ink display is just a lot easier on the eyes for reading as well as the battery life being superb.

Sorry, missed that in your post. I'll note that I've decided that a good combination is a new iPad for a 10" device and a Nexus 7 for a 7" device. Best of both worlds, really.

e-ink is really nice for brightly lit environments. battery life is much better. and they they weigh a lot less. but they make really crappy general-purpose tablets

Sure. I actually have both, because I live in SoCal and so no tablet is going to work everywhere I want to read.

The wife has a kindle and a flyer. If I had to choose one I would pick a tablet because its so much more versatile but eink readers are very good at the one thing they are for. Synchronization between both kindle and the app makes it quite convenient to have both too.

The margins in the Kindle app on Android are still too large for my tastes. They are much smaller on the Fire proper. So there is a difference between Kindle app and Kindle device.
I'm currently using Aldiko for sideloaded epubs. I'm hoping Google Books will allow sideloading in the near future as I find it a better user experience than Aldiko.
I've tried the vast majority of other readers, and so far haven't found anything better.

The Nook android app allows sideloading of epubs. It's very nice as far as the user interface.
Has anyone else run super gnes on their 7?
I can't seem to access any of the settings without a force close. Maybe its an issue with 4.1? Thanks for the input!

Is yours actually working now? Mine continues to just crash to the home screen without any errors, no matter what game I try to load. I've uninstalled/reinstalled with no change.
Sent an email to the dev with logcat, waiting to hear back. It continues to work fine on my phone (LG Optimus One P500, CM9), but it's kinda hard to play anything on a 3.2" screen once you've been spoiled by the 7" gloriousness that is the Nexus.
Do you guys hook up controllers to play? I've been playing some contra with nesoid but having some difficulty getting used to the touch screen dpad
I use an iControlpad. http://www.icontrolpad.com/ It was expensive but works great and has a thin profile so it sits in my bag nice. The phone clamp is removable.
I've been using sixaxis with my nexus 7 for all sorts of emulation and gaming purposes. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you own a PlayStation 3 already! It has run well on my 7 and my nexus s since the update in the topic post. I even got to play through Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity on it! Good times.

But the phone clamp fits on Nexus 7? I want a hands free solution to nN7 becomes a portable, it would be great.
