No reason it wouldn't be, along with the B&N Nook app, Kobo, etc., etc.

You should definitely be able to use the Kindle app, as well as the Amazon AppStore, and the Amazon MP3 store.
I assumed as much I just wanted to be 100% sure as that's where all my books are ;-)

I've tried both, the nexus is hands down a better experience, its smoother and the screen is much nicer

The best kindle experience is available not on kindle fire rather it is available on Kindle iPad app. The interactive magazines on kindle store does not appear so interactive on kindle fire however the same magazine is very interactive on kindle iPad app. This is kind of surprising but true and I know because I have both. Also the iPad screen has better aspect ratio in order to fit the magazine fully in the screen whereas on kindle fire it does not fully fit the screen because of 16:9 aspect ratio and same is the case with Nexus 7. You can read magazines without much zoom on iPad as compared to any 16:9 screen ratio table which includes not only the 7 inch but the 10 inch tablets as well. I use to own Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I know how good the magazines used to look on iPad as compared to Tab 10.1.
Don't worry though I myself have order Nexus 7 for myself but I won't be using it for reading though. I wanted a 7 inch Tegra 3 tablet for gaming so thats what I am going to do on it. I hope that games would be compatible with 4.1 soon. The biggest problem with Android Eco System i.e. app compatibility on multiple devices.

That might be true for magazines, but for ebooks I've found a 7" in portrait to be ablout perfect. It just about equals a single paperback page, and is very easy to old for longer periods of time. Text on my iPad is excellent, but it gets heavy after awhile and I don't like the Kindle 2-page format in landscape. And the iPad is positively ungainly in portrait.

Play Books apps is nicer than the Kindle Android app, but, I think I'll do my book shopping on the Kindle store because it's very easy to strip DRM and share with others in my household. I haven't been able to find a solution to make Play Books DRM free/share with others I'd share a physical book with otherwise.

I agree that play books has a better ui, but I keep both on it as I use the kindle app to side load the books I already own, if I don't find a book on the play store for a great deal I also tend to buy them on kindle since its multiplatform.

Yes that's what I said in my post as well that books are ok with 7 inch tablet but magazines are not so exciting. For books 7 inch is ideal size. Kindle magazines for Android Kindle are most not interactive although same magazine when downloaded on iPad is interactive. It is kind of strange because the Kindle app for iPad is also made by Amazon and why would amazon make a better app for iPad as compared to Kindle fire. It confuses me. I'll be keeping my Kindle as the e-ink display is just a lot easier on the eyes for reading as well as the battery life being superb.

Sorry, missed that in your post. I'll note that I've decided that a good combination is a new iPad for a 10" device and a Nexus 7 for a 7" device. Best of both worlds, really.

e-ink is really nice for brightly lit environments. battery life is much better. and they they weigh a lot less. but they make really crappy general-purpose tablets

The wife has a kindle and a flyer. If I had to choose one I would pick a tablet because its so much more versatile but eink readers are very good at the one thing they are for. Synchronization between both kindle and the app makes it quite convenient to have both too.

The margins in the Kindle app on Android are still too large for my tastes. They are much smaller on the Fire proper. So there is a difference between Kindle app and Kindle device.
I'm currently using Aldiko for sideloaded epubs. I'm hoping Google Books will allow sideloading in the near future as I find it a better user experience than Aldiko.
I've tried the vast majority of other readers, and so far haven't found anything better.

The Nook android app allows sideloading of epubs. It's very nice as far as the user interface.

I know the kindle only gives you what? 1gb of your "own" space in it but i was wondering can you load PDF on it? CBZ/CBR? or do you pretty much have to load whatever you buy from amazon on it?
It gives you 5GB of local storage, reads PDFs fine, and can be sideloaded with most Android apps if they don't rely on phone, gps, camera, etc.

How is the netflix app on it? is it smooth?
And when you load do you load it via computer and if so does it come with the cable?
I cant help with netflix question but I can tell you it doesnt come with a USB cable just a mains charger.

Is this right out of the box? no rooting or anything? is it an amazon app i dl? one of the biggest reasons i want one is because of comics/books and the panel by panel viewing on kindle is why i want it so bad, does this comicrack do the same?

There is a android version which works fine on the Kindle, you can download and move the free version to a folder your Kindle and install.
I was reading up on the dropbox and stuff is there a way of putting pdfs etc. on the fire without an android phone? i don't have an android phone.
You can copy them across to the documents folder with a USB cable or setup dropbox on your PC and put them in the shared folder and then download them on the Kindle through Wi-Fi.
Netflix works fine.

I also second the Comicrack. I tried a few that I had tried initially with my galaxy s. Obviously screen was too small to really enjoy. When I tried those same ones on the Fire, it was ok. JJ comix spams you to purchase it after every tap practically, even in the settings and preferences before you start reading anything.
Android comic viewer was ok, but I like to hold it landscape and set to fit width. This one kept randomly changing that even though I had it set to fit width.
I saw comicrack had a droid version, which i used on PC before, and its been great.
I havent tried the part/panel feature yet. Just setting to fit width is great. I set top left/right to next page, bottom left/right to previous so regardless which hand I hold, same function. Only time I zoom is if its a 2 page spread and depending you don't need to zoom since the res is so nice.
For reference, and not exaggerating, 95% of my Fire has been messing with comics. I loaded one book up to see if it worked, and 1 video. No music.

Never mind. Did a titanium backup of spb on my phone, transferred it to the kindle and restored it. Changed interface to tablet and away I go!

I tried SPB Shell a while ago and had a lot of FC issues. That and it just seemed way over-priced to me.
any way to make adw ex look better? i have it and like it but the ensity hack is no where near as good as go launcher. but i dont want to use go launcher because i cant customize it the way i want
Netflix and Remote VNC Pro. I use them every day.
Don't forget KeePass for managing your passwords and credentials.
Store the KeePass database in your Dropbox folder to sync it across multiple devices.
Castle Wars is also a very fun game!
Craigslist has an app which is very useful and saves your searches and constantly updates them...very cool to keep up with steals ya na what i mean
also, i dont recommend the facebook app...it's always been very trashy from my user experience both on the phone and kf
teamviewer is also a very very useful app to access your home based computer or work based computer and email files through the net which you forgot to put in your cloud maybe
All great apps on my phone, but even better with the Kindle Fire's excellent audio and video:

I've been comparing the Kindle 8.9 and the Nexus 10 and think that overall, the Nexus is the better choice for me.
However, I already own a Kindle Fire and have purchased several books and movies.
Are there any apps or other methods for using the Nexus to access Amazon content and, more importantly, download it onto the Nexus? If not, it probably would not be worth it to me to make the switch.

If you download the Amazon app for android, you can access all your amazon content because they are all linked to your account. So there is really no need to go with the Kindle Fire just to view your media from Amazon.
And the kindle app also.

Only if you get a kindle fire. In a nutshell, it is heavily tied into their OS, which is not stock android and will not work outside of that environment. The only way you'll ever see it on the Nexus 7 is if Amazon releases it a s standalone apk..
For now, you have to just use the website.

I've been watching various threads on this one for weeks. I'm hopeful that Amazon will release an app for the rest of us soon given that 1) they just released an app for Google TV, and 2) they make most of their money from media, not Kindle hardware....so I'm hoping the speculation that they are limiting it to the Kindle for competitive reasons, is false.
The only way I've been able to watch Amazon VOD is by loading flash and using Firefox. It works, but it is FAR from ideal.

To clarify, the Google TV app only works on two LG television sets. It does not work on any other Google TV devices.

Understood....I guess my point was more that they are still releasing android apps, even though there is speculation out there that they want to limit android access to the Kindle. A while back there was the same speculation about iDevices, but now we have both an iPad and iPhone/Pod app. I'm hopeful we'll have one soon....
I hope someone figures this out soon.
I am on the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, and my clock is ticking.
I won't stay with Prime unless it can replace Netflix for streamed movies.

Amazon's selection of free stuff to stream isn't as extensive as Netflix, I've found. At least not in what I like to watch. They do, however, have a lot of things that Netflix doesn't have. We split a Prime membership with my brother but I don't intend on getting rid of our Netflix or even Hulu+ memberships just yet.

Hey, so i have a question. I'm pretty sure i know a lot, but i want to know if its a good decision. I'm trying to trade my nook color for my friend's kindle fire. Now, i know the kindle has no physical volume keys and no micro sd slot, but it does have a dual core 1 ghz processor. plus, my friend's has a super stable aosp stock 4.2 rom on it. its smooth and runs a lot better than my nook on cm7. so is the trade worth it?
I guess the question should be......if the Kindle Fire is better, why would he trade?

I have a Kindle Fire and a Nook Color in my house. The main reason I can see for going with the Kindle Fire is if you want to run the stock OS to get access to Amazon's content (Kindle books and Amazon App Store). Amazon seems to have more free books and Apps (their daily free App). I haven't seen as much of this with B&N, sadly, which is why I liked the rooted Nook OS. If you don't care about the content from Amazon, I think the Nook Color is a better device. It's designed better and offers much more flexibility on upgrades (microSD slot) and media types it can handle. The Kindle feels more locked down.
Now, if you plan on going with a custom ROM on either device, you can get access to all the content you want from Google or Amazon on a Kindle. That makes it even more worthwhile. The CPU is a minor issue compared to the rest of the specs.

I have an 8gb Nexus 7. You have to be extremely careful or you run out of space.
I know it's "different strokes for different folks" but IMHO, the NC is the more versatile device.
