Anyway to get that working? I tried searching, but the search box on the HD app is god awful. Anyone have a modified apk or anything, one that'll make it work on here? I'd really like to get it working

Only if you get a kindle fire. In a nutshell, it is heavily tied into their OS, which is not stock android and will not work outside of that environment. The only way you'll ever see it on the Nexus 7 is if Amazon releases it a s standalone apk..
For now, you have to just use the website.

I've been watching various threads on this one for weeks. I'm hopeful that Amazon will release an app for the rest of us soon given that 1) they just released an app for Google TV, and 2) they make most of their money from media, not Kindle hardware....so I'm hoping the speculation that they are limiting it to the Kindle for competitive reasons, is false.
The only way I've been able to watch Amazon VOD is by loading flash and using Firefox. It works, but it is FAR from ideal.

To clarify, the Google TV app only works on two LG television sets. It does not work on any other Google TV devices.

Understood....I guess my point was more that they are still releasing android apps, even though there is speculation out there that they want to limit android access to the Kindle. A while back there was the same speculation about iDevices, but now we have both an iPad and iPhone/Pod app. I'm hopeful we'll have one soon....
I hope someone figures this out soon.
I am on the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, and my clock is ticking.
I won't stay with Prime unless it can replace Netflix for streamed movies.

Amazon's selection of free stuff to stream isn't as extensive as Netflix, I've found. At least not in what I like to watch. They do, however, have a lot of things that Netflix doesn't have. We split a Prime membership with my brother but I don't intend on getting rid of our Netflix or even Hulu+ memberships just yet.

Ok, this is not an iPad vs Xoom debate but...I have in my possession an iPad 2 and a Xoom (perks of my work). I've had the ipad for about 2 weeks and the Xoom for only 2 days so I want to try to be fair but...
I think to myself, let's see how streaming video works on xoom compared to ipad. on ipad:
Netflix app - works great - Xoom - no such app
Hbogo on iPad works great - Xoom - no such app
Vudu on ipad works great - Xoom - no such app
Hulu Plus on ipad works - Xoom - what's hulu?
Just some other things I noticed -
looked for Wall Street Journal app which is great on iPad, but no such app
DirecTV app for iPad has some extra features than the Xoom app
Bank of AMerica App for ipad is nice but no such app for Xoom
Now I know, to each his own and purchase based on your needs but come on! Only thing iPad doesn't seem to do as well to me is flash of course.
Am I missing something?
I am a droid lover, Droid Original then Droid 2, then Droid Incredible etc. all rooted but a bit dissappointed in the feature list for Xoom. Am I alone?

Its not the limitation of xoom, in general its honeycomb OS itself. Some of the popular apps might showing up in market hopefully by end of this year.

Those of us that have rooted and flashed custom roms like Tiamat l.l have perfect ability to access hbogo, hulu, just about anything via the browser. I use Dolphin HD and the Tiamat rom lets the browser function as a desktop rather than mobile device. And yes, flash is great.
Bottom line...I'm not missing anything and I've got flash.

Hmmm, so, you can do HBOGO and hulu because you are rooted and can load another browser that is capable of running those apps? In other words, it's not the ROM that allows this but the rooted device allowing a different browser that HBOGO works on?
thanks for your reply
Your point is well taken. But the same list should include all of the sites you CAN stream from due to flash. I believe Netlfix and Hulu are both Silverlight based.
I stream from Amazon all of the time.

+1. Don't have a TV.
Its the same browser (or you can use a different one), its just changing your user agent report to desktop, not android. Hulu is flash, and you can modify flash to also report desktop, not android, and that enables streams. HBO is probably similar. And Netflix will come, as it has a tegra and Netflix/nvidia have said tegras have features for Netflix. Also, you can get play on, which streams from every source under the moon for a few bucks a month extra. And it plays nice with honeycomb.

You can install flash_player and dolphin off the market. Go to settings in dolphin, and change your UA to desktop.
Don't have to be rooted.
I have a 47" TV that I use for video play back so that it why it doesn't bother me. Now if I was 16 and didn't have a tv then it would.

Sorry for being so touchy...maybe I misunderstood your comment.
Re-reading the thread, it came to me that people are really having two very different experiences with the Xoom. There's plain vanilla out of the box, which is nice but lacks some functionality, and the experience of those that have unlocked, rooted and customized their Xoom. The point I was trying to make is that if you're willing to be hands-on, you can have just about all the functions you are looking for.
It's been rumored that rooted devices will not have access to rent/buy movies using Google's new Movie service.
Am I the only one holding back on rooting my device because of this? I tried thinking about it yesterday, and I do not know of any legitimate way to download a movie (legally - paid) and transfer to watch on my Tab. More to the point, I'd rather just rent at $5 than buy at $15.
I've been a rooter since I had a G1 and was always a proponent of rooting, but I don't want to lose what I feel is a key feature of a tablet -- the ability to watch movies.
I know that's not the case as of now .. I have the new market on my Fascinate .. rooted and can download movies and books like a champ. Maybe its something they will fix later . But isn't the case as of now .

My 10.1 is not rooted, and the Google Video app doesn't show up in the market. When I go to the web I can find the app, but my Samsung shows up grayed out and the market claims the device is not compatible with the Video App. I've got it on my Asus Transformer and Acer Iconia tablet though. All three live in the U.S. with me. Anyone have a clue? Maybe a direct download of the video app?
I can confirm that movie playback is indeed prohibited when SU is discovered. I can also confirm that the work around listed previously, er, works.
iTunes it isn't, but it is a legit way of getting media on an Android device. Much better than Samsung's implementation.
I'm one of those odd people who will hack their device on a whim, but won't download illegal media. If I'm going to watch something, I'll rent or buy it.
If Google closes the work around and I have to choose between root and movies, root wins. No contest

The actual Amazon Video app would be sweet. I've been digging through old threads going back to the original Fire trying to get this going on my N7 this weekend. Video quality aside, it would be nice to get everything going so you can download videos to device. For, hypothetically, loading "A Charlie Brown Christmas" or somesuch for the flight home next week.
Anyhow, so far I understand this may be a pipe dream. But if anyone has any more recent tips on Amazon Video + Nexus, please hit me up. So far the farthest I can get is registering my N7 as a device (shows up in Amazon even), seeing my account and videos, but then FC upon clicking on any vids.
One more try, then... *starts digging through newest KFHD dump*

New Amazon Instant Video App
Today Amazon Instant Video arrived to the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, it is only compatible with Google TV. Considering it can run on those, which are essentially android, why not try to find a way to get it to run on our phones and tablets. Considering the screen-shots they have on the Play link, it could be used on our devices. There has to be a way, maybe by editing the build.prop, to get Google Play to think that your phone or tablet is actually a Google TV. I tried a few things but could not manage to get it to work, but I'm sure someone with more experience could figure this one out.
Update: I recently saw that there is a Google Play version for Google TV on the Play Store so maybe that could help if we could get that running on a device.

We have a thread going over on the Kindle HD forum, and I've been trying to get this download by using a build.prop change. From what I can find online its only compatible with new LG TVs, the 47G2 and 55G2. And from a youtube review of one of these TVs the device name was "LG Google TV" so I tried a build.prop with manufacturer "lge" (since thats what they use on other devices IIRC) and device name "LG Google TV". Yet it still showed as incompatible.
If we could just get a copy of this apk, maybe it will work. Still don't know why Amazon can't release a native Android app. The apk from the OG Kindle Fire works on GB but FCs on ICS and JB. The apk from the 2nd gen Kindle Fire HD FCs on everything.
FWIW here is teh list of compatible devices.

Red is right.
Amazon has not released their app for the Android market.
Many have tried to extract it from the Kindle Fire & HD to use on
other tablets or phones, but it has not worked. Kind of bad since
Amazon has released the Amazon Instant Video App for IOS.
So, the only way to watch is to set your (flash capable) browser to desktop, load flash
and then log on to Amazon and watch the video through the browser
it works, but not as well as the Amazon Instant Video app. . .
Unfortunately flash is dead in Android 4.4, so this is a short-term solution for everybody, unless you stick with your current device and never upgrade it.
I understand why they might have wanted to keep instant video a kindle exclusive. But once they released it on iOS, it should be on android too.

Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Free mobile app
I'm assuming you meant Amazon Prime Video? As of now there is no Android app for it aside from GTV app (which only works on select TVs). There's one for Kindle tablets and Fire Phone, but no other Android devices have access to it. In fact, you can rip APK off the Kindle Fire or Fire Phone and sideload it on any Android phone, but they won't work and force close on any device other than Kindle. As of now, your only option to watch Amazon Prime Video on Android is to use browser that supports Flash, such as Dolphin Browser.
Amazon recently did mention that they may come up with an app for other Android devices soon, but that hasn't happened yet, and I doubt it will any time soon, so I'd say browser is your best bet.
Okay, apparently it seems the app recently got released. Here's the link to it.

Amazon Instant Video should already be available on Roku. What model of Roku do you have? Depending on the model, your other option is to use screen mirroring, so long as you have supporting media streaming device.

It could be because its international variant. They're very picky about that kind of things. You could try an app called Market Helper. It's an app that helps your device disguise as some other device so you can download "incompatible" apps from Play Store. It requires root access, but if you're interested, try the link below.
http://goo.gl/GYz7z0
If that doesn't work, well, I guess you could simply download the APK, and side load it. I did that on my Nexus 7, and it does work perfectly(it shows as incompatible on Play Store). Once you have the Amazon app, you can download Instant Video app from Amazon appstore right from Amazon app. They don't seem to check for compatibility on Instant Video app, so you should have no problem with that. It's kinda interesting as even though they say the tablets are "not supported" the app seems to adapt to tablet screen, changing UI element to fit the bigger screen. Anyways, below is the link to the APK I ripped off my phone. Enjoy
http://goo.gl/8fTK1b
Thanks! Trying the Market Helper (and ROM Toolbox) first...
Also if you have botbrew, can't you technically install Flash w/ Firefox and watch? Never tried it since it seems overkill, but would it work in theory?
