[Q] ATT Galaxy S4. Anyway to force LTE instead of HSPA? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I just got a new ATT S4 and have a question about LTE. I know that I am able to get LTE here because if I use the 2263 menu, or phone info app and choose LTE only it works perfect, and very fast. But of course that disable calling, etc. What happens is that its always on HSPA+ instead. Is there a way to prioritize or force it to connect to LTE instead? I know LTE takes more battery, but my HSPA is very slow. Thanks
I should add that if I go into airplane mode, then back to normal I get LTE for a few seconds. Then it goes back to regular 4G.

Signal Problem

No matter what I do my phone will not switch to edge. I tried enabling the 3g toggle and when i turn it off it stays on 3g. My signal would drop down all the way to no signal and not even go into edge. Anyone else having the same problem? This is my third focus so far and the previous one had the same thing.
I have a captivate and a focus, and both pick up 2g edge. Of course, where I live, I do not have 3g coverage. However, when I go to work, I have 3g coverage. On my captivate, to pick up 2g edge service at work, I have to manually disable the 3g wcdma bands on my device. Of course, I would prefer to connect to 3g over edge anytime, so I haven't tested with the focus. I am not even sure if I can manually pick what bands to connect on with the focus. On the captivate, I go to the phone dialer, and dial *#0011# to see what band I am connected on, and dial *#2263# to select which bands to connect to. If you are looking for the best speed and signal possible, you should try to connect on wcdma 850mhz band if your phone will allow you to choose. I will do some testing on my focus and see what I can come up with.

I just received my second focus, due to it getting run over, and this new Focus has the same problem as the op. It will go into 2g but first it goes to no bars on 3g, which means I lose the call. This is at my home so it's really aggravating, it loses signal every time. It will go from 3 bars on 3g to nothing.
I don't understand how this phone sucks yet my last Focus didn't do this. I need to ask for a replacement again. I'm not sure it matters though because the op is on his third phone. I guess I should have switched carriers as I had the same damn problem with my Fuze.

4g / LTE Toggle / radio control

At work the 4g LTE signal for ATT is very poor in the building, but we have 4g repeaters for ATT to fix this issue. Unfortunately, phones are stubborn and like to stay on 4g LTE despite having 1 bar of signal vs full signal with 4g. I had this same issue on my iphone 5 but was able to easily force off LTE while i was at work and have a steady, reliable data connection. My Note 4 seems to have the same affinity to wanting to be on 1 bar of LTE, but I cannot figure out a way to toggle / force LTE off and just use 4g. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of an application I can use to resolve this issue?
Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no option for Network mode on the ATT version. I wonder if this has to do with voLTE....
I did find a backway to the network mode via *#*#4636#*#* but I am unsure of what I should be setting to "disable" lte while I'm in the building at work.
I think I've sorted this out now. If I change LTE/GSM AUTO to WCDMA preferred it seems to immediately switch and hold onto 4G. I do have to change it back. Maybe I will write something so I can quick toggle this since nothing on the app store seems to work.
hi,
If you are rooted ? You can use an xpose module called Intelli3G
I use it on my phone ,works 100% and switches smoothly/fast between eg 4G..3G automatic
eg if my data is of its on 3G as soon as i switch data on /wifi it changes to 4 G
For interest sake ,here is a link to market ,you can read desciption what it does ?

good luck

[Q] Galaxy S5 (G900F) LTE Only Mode

Hello,
i want ask if its normal that LTE Only mode on my Samsung Galaxy S5 disables ability to use calls.
I have problem because my S5 is using mostly H or H+ connection in locations where LTE is available. When i choose LTE band preference it connects to LTE but voice calls dont work. When i choose LTE/WCDMA or LTE/GSM voice calls are working but after call its conneted to H or H+ again. It never prefer LTE.
What's wrong. Do you have same problem?
I've seen this kind of posts a few times already but there is not actual solution for that. Probably the problem is ( and there is very high chance of that) that your carrier says it is enabled LTE but they have bad infrastructure. And phone is always trying to connect on more stable connection and that's why you see LTE for a short period or whatever it is.
Hi,
LTE is actually only for data so if you had set LTE only mode wouldn't be able to make a call.
Thanks, any other questions?

Verizon users, lend me your ears!

I started out with USCC on this device. But last week I switched ourn lines over to big red. I noticed that big red forces you to use LTE, with no options under "cellular networks" to select CDMA. Here in Maine, LTE drains your battery 50% faster than CDMA, and data is wonky. It tends to be slower than CDMA, or at least feels slower because it is constantly switching between the 2 or hanging in limbo.
My phone was set to CDMA on USCC, and even after switching to Verizon, I'm still on CDMA. My question is, if I return to stock LP will it force me into LTE -with no choice of switching back to CDMA? So far, Marshmallow has been a huge disappointment on my phone.

Just go into hidden menu via dialer and force your phone into CDMA or LTE or whatever you want. It's simple really and will give you what you want.
Well, is there a "new to Verizon" guide somewhere? Verizon didn't tell me about the secret codes. I don't even know how to do an advanced prl update.
I should have clarified that I've only ever been on USCC. I've never used Verizon. But I do vaguely remember reading about a hidden dialer code now that you mention it. I'll look into that.

This is android secret code not Verizon.
*#*#4636#*#*
Thanks. Never needed it because us cellular already offers that.

It's not a that they don't offer that 99% of the time you are better off on LTE so its good that phones prefer LTE. Most likely your other phone simply had that option not hidden unlike on Moto. So that wasn't a ussc feature

Agree to disagree. The data speeds are about the same here, but with the constant handoffs, LTE actually becomes slower and pages won't load because it's switching to 3G and back to LTE over, and over, and over. Plus the added battery drain off having 15-20dBm weaker signal, it's a no brainer. But maybe that's just in our less developed state.
The Samsung phone that I bought for my wife has no CDMA provisions, so it's not a Moto thing, it's a Verizon thing.
You can also download the thunder bolt lte on/off app and you have choices like CDMA auto prl. I use it to force CDMA only on my range extender at home.
Use shortcut creator to link to the hidden menu and your all set

This device doesn't run Verizon branded firmware at all. It's how Motorola provisioned the device to work. Like patt2k said you can change that via the hidden menu and you should be good to go, it won't look for LTE after that.

There seem to be many LTE on/off utilities in the App store. How did you pick this one?
I also have a Verizon Network Extender at home. I have trouble getting connected to it. I often have to reboot or turn the radio on/off to get my phone to connect to the Extender. I would appreciate any advice on how to get my phone to connect to the Extender more reliably.
It would also be nice if the phone would show via an Icon or screen that it is connected to the Extender. Right now the only way to know is to dial #48
EDIT: When I go into the Hidden Menu and select CDMA only, the phone temporary drops the LTE signal. However, LTE seems to quickly come back. Any suggestions on how to turn off LTE when I am home so that I force a connection to the Network Extender?
I can't get the hidden menu to switch from CDMA to LTE. It will switch temporarily, then drop the radio altogether forcing me to restart. Upon restart it's in CDMA only again. Personally, I'm fine without LTE. But I'm not sure why I can't get it enabled at all. I'd like to know I COULD have LTE if I wanted it. So I'm confused why it's stuck in CDMA

It worked with other Motorola devices in the past. CDMA only will fix your network extender issues.
You will have to set it back when you leave the house. Also it will go back to the default settings if you reboot. Works great for me.

How can I force lte on the g935f ?

I often use my phone as a hotspot for my iPad and I need lte for the considerably better speeds. Is there anyway to force it to always be on lte?

I have the Canadian version, so not 100% sure if this will work for you (it should, as this is a "Samsung thing" that I always used on my phones), but you can get into the Service menu *#2263# then Band Selection -> LTE (and you can even specify which band). To set back, you choose Automatic.
Verify with *#0011#
