[Q] Nexus as Ipad - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to watch a live stream on a site and at first it didnt show the content, then i noticed the ios sign icon below the video, i clicked on it and it worked the video as if i use a device using ios.
So i want to know what is the difference between ios and android OS showing video content on the internet, that doesnt let me watch teh videos as android device but IOS?

What bowser were you using?

I'm guessing but it sounds like the video was flash based and many internet sites have two forms video, one as flash, the other as html just for iPad and IPhones. The site thought you were an iPad, maybe?

Download flash player and see if the video works.

The video content was Flashed based, but it looks like they also provided a non-Flash alternative for the iOS users out there. You were basically viewing the HTML version of the video when you clicked on the iOS link. Download and install Flash and I'm willing to bet the original video will work fine.

Thanks forma the answers but i have already flash Player installed on stock ROM and using chrome but not many of flash works with me in the sites

Flash will not work with chrome. I use lighting browser. Be sure to enable flash in settings of the lighting browser.

Chrome mobile does not support flash content. Try downloading a different browser like Firefox or the AOSP browser.

thought youtube used html5 now, chrome does not support flash AFAIK.
as daveleebond has said, youtube can run on html5 now if your browser does not support flash. a lot of video sites online are migrating to html5 since it is not a proprietary plugin like adobe flash, and html5 runs fairly smoothly on most modern GPUs.

How come flash video works on Nexus 7?

Hey guys,
Long time Android user, and a very proud one at that. I recently got my Nexus 7, and I'm extremely happy with it.
I was shocked to see that some "flash video" works in the default Chrome Browser? I have not installed Flash or any other add on that I can think of. But I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I can view and play some videos on website which I believe is using Flash.
For example:
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/08/03/new-super-mario-bros-2-review
http://www.comingsoon.net/
These sites work perfectly fine with my Nexus 7 Chrome Browser.
However, how come these don't work on my Chrome Browser for my Galaxy Nexus or my Sony Tablet?
The Chrome Browser is the same version 18.0.102523 on all 3 devices.
Can someone explain why is this the case?
Thank you all for your on going support in these forums.
Bill
This Question was resolved... see last post.
HTML5.
what he said
I figured as such, but is HTML5 video not enabled for Chrome Browser on the Galaxy Nexus?
Bill
I looked into this further, and I've confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus plays HTML5 videos fine on sites that specify it is HTML5 videos, but its weird that those sites above still don't work. Can those that own both a Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus confirm that these play on both devices?
Thanks All,
Bill
Codec support maybe if it might be opening the video directly from website

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your confirmations... I finally figured out what was causing the problem... although I feel this is a bug:
When you view a website with the "request desktop site" option checked (which I prefer),
the HTML5 video links are broken. It's not Flash, as I initially thought it was... its HTML5.
However, if you view the desktop website using the website's "View Full Site" link instead of using the Chrome Browsers "request desktop site" option, the HTML5 video links work!
Thanks Everyone.
Is there any possibility to get flash on chrome of nexus 7 in future?
Not in Chrome, but maybe on the stock Android browser.

That's a website bug most likely. When you hit "request desktop site" in chrome, chrome gets the desktop site, not a desktop redirect from mobile (which is how it should be). Those websites probably don't have HTML5 video on a desktop site. When you click their own "View Full Site" link, they still know you are on a mobile device, and still give you the HTML5 video. They should just give HTML5 to anyone without flash.

No Sound From Flash Using Firefox Browser

Downloaded Flash Via an apk file and managed to get the video working from TV network websites so I can watch prior episodes I've missed. BUT there is no audio.
Can I use Firefox Beta or maybe I have to utilize a different browser?
Thanks much for your help.

How about some help for a bro?
Seriously, I'm returning the Nexus 7 if I cannot get Flash to work with it. There are many websites I go to that use it so personally it is a deal breaker. I admit this is a better hardware device than my KF but at least the latter does what I need it to.

Thanks alot, I owe you one!
I cannot play videos from every website I went to test it, but 90% worked for video AND sound.
I'm bookmarking the link you provided cause I have a feeling when another software update comes along it may not work and the developers will update that thread accordingly.
All other apk files for Flash I tried beforehand didn't work except the .17.

Flash is a bit hit and miss on the N7 but flash down loader on Play might be of use.
For TV in the UK you can't beat TVCatchup.
Thanks again for the thread on xda for Flash .17.
Still some websites where I cannot play videos BUT those are in the minority versus those that work.

Latest Flashplayer + Boat browser.
IMHO - Boat is way better than Chrome.

Nexus 4 Flash Player (sideloaded)

Any ideas if Nexus 4 will be able to play flash via side loading the APK?
I think the Nexus 7 could through the stock browser (google chrome)... hopefully this can too.
although i'll be glad when flash has died on the web.
It wouldn't be able to through chrome. You would need to flash the stock browser and flash.

maybe it was the stock browser and i just failed to remember it properly!
Firefox for Android also supports Flash. That's about all I use it for. Dolphin removed support a few versions back.
Old stock android browser would not install for me. I installed adobe flash, and am currently using Firefox Beta to view flash content.
I loaded a flash page on firefox and it says "a plugin in needed to display this content"

But; I sode loaded it on PA and use it with the Older stock android browser.
It crashes sometimes tho and also causes the browser to lock up alot.

Flash Player on Galaxy Note 8.0

For general information the stock web browser will still support Flash. You can sideload Flash to the device and play videos and view other sites requiring Flash. I was searching the internet and wanted to see a clip but it required Flash. I downloaded the latest Flash Player and installed. Worked fine with the stock browser.

Just curious about where do you download the flash player.
Just google Adobe Flash Player 11.1_11.1.115.34-1.apk you should find somewhere to download it

Download from adobe:
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...roid/11.1.115.54/install_flash_player_ics.apk
Dolphin Browser works best with flash player, but you need to root the phone and hack the settings.
Use Root Explorer or similar app to edit mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser_preferences.xml from data/data/mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser
change the line string name="plugin_state" from OFF to ON or ON_DEMAND and save

It works 100% with mine.
I understood that Dolphin removed flash support, so it will not work with the current revision of either Dolphin or Dolphin beta. However Boat browser still supports it. I understand there is a work around hack, but its not worth my time when another browser works just as well.

For those who want to stream video via Amazon Prime, experiences have been generally negative. I had no luck with stock or xscope and others have had little luck with other browsers. Other than that, Flash experience has been OK for me.

The stock browser already support flash player. Beside, you may try Boat Browser, but have to purchase the pro license keys. Another choice is Lightning Browser.
However, I am searching for the compatible version of the adobe flash player, the latest and last version is 11.1.115.69, but it does not seems to be stable as I thought the latest should be bugs fixed and stability. I have tried to roll back to 11.1.115.54 and is more stabilise.
Flash archives straight from the source.
