Rooting - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Two days with the phone. Do I need to root yet?

Depends what you need. If this is your first Android device, better get to know the OS before rooting. If you have rooted an android device you own(ed) before, you might give it a shot.

Rooted before with the HTC but I'm not sure how much different the galaxy is to root.

I'll tell you this: I've rooted my last three phones, now, and the S4 was exponentially easier to root than the other two (Evo Shift and Moment). I used Chainfire's CF Auto Root, and as the thread on it tells you, if it takes you more than 30 seconds, you just need practice.

I rooted my phone the moment the option came out. Now its a matter of testing out the roms until i find the right one.
I would at least root and remove as much bloatware as possible.

Boots Into Recovery After Battery Dies

So 4 times now i've let the battery fully discharge and charged the phone overnight, turned it on the next morning and its in recovery? First thought was it was because when I was having issues with the market but my market app has been working without any problems since removing updates.
Is there a setting I need to change or is there an underlying problem that is rearing its head.
Running GB rooted, never had any ROMS pretty much just rooted thats it.

I believe it's supposed to do that. I think it's a sort of fail safe system that comes from the hijack process used in the Droid 2/X Bootstrapper.

Interesting because it never did that before for the whole time i've been on GB.

How do I change my fonts without root

Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You can't without having root access.
You need write permission on the system partition to change fonts. You can't get that without root access.
Why not root?
Because I had it rooted... then some jerk unplugged my phone while I was installing a new ROM.... I'm freaking lucky I was even able to recover it... I can't riot again.... I don't have the means or the know how

It is a relatively easy process. There are some good guides pinned in this forum that will walk you through the process. On top of that there are easy to use tools that can help you along the way. Don't give up, just have confidence you can do it

As mark said, its pretty easy to root, just do it manually without a toolkit if you are worried. You don't need a custom ROM to change fonts either, but if you do it again watch your phone and make sure it has at least 80% battery. Flashing a ROM should only take 1 minute, you should need to plug it in and charge

Buying s4 soon, have a questions.

Hello,
I have s3 on Verizon and I will be moving over to att soon. I want to know where the correct root for att s4. Reading all of threads has me overwhelmed.
First thing I would root then install custom recovery back up and finally select any Roms only for att.
Thanks!

Right now buying an s4 from att will have the MF3 update on it, and right now there's no known root method for it unless you already had the phone rooted before the update. I'm running the non-rooted with MF3 and its been really good but then there's been times where I want to root just to tether. But the S4 is really a great phone to have with the 13 mp camera I could of never taken any pictures like I have with my iphone. Great speed, battery life, SD card slot for more storage also can replace the battery quickly.

Ah, darn. I hope there will be root methods soon. Thanks letting me know. The s4 is coolest , all the things can be done without root is good.

This is not for sure as there is obviously a large amount of s4's sitting in warehouses and stores that were shipped before the mf3 update. So I would just make sure that you turn the phone on for the 1st time without the sim inserted to prevent the push update to mf3 then root/install recovery and flash a custom rom. Chances of you getting an mf3 phone now after only a week of it being out is very slim.

To root or not to root

I just got my note 3 yesterday and I'm struggling with whither or not to root now or wait a week to make sure I don't need the warranty
Are there any issues I should consider while I'm weighing the decision
My phone with out root is like a car with out wheels but I also don't want root and find out the hardware is faulty

Take the plunge and root the device! I purchased mine 2 days ago, bought an unlock code and rooted the device. It was a WIND Mobile version which had LTE crippled (since WIND only supports a MAX speed of 4G). I installed the Telus firmware (ROM) and enabled the regional carrier settings to enable the LTE radio band. I have no regrets!
Well went to download cf auto root then i see to check for multitouch issue and find out my new baby is sick
That leaves me with two questions
1 is there a fix
2 will it get any worse because as it is it doesn't bother me but if it were to get worse who knows

My Note 3 from Telus came region unlocked. I sim unlocked it same day. But i do not have multi touch issues. It registers all 10 fingers and when moving all 10. If u shell out lots of cash best get the best possible. But if it doesnt bother u. Take the plunge. Its worth.

Well i didn't shell out anything it was a gift
As i don't play games on it i decided to go ahead with rooting
Not much in the way of custom roms or mods for my model as of yet so i chose lidroid
I liked his work on the n7100

Restore root w/o a PC

Got my unlock code for my G2 last / night. It was network lock and a bigger pain in the A** then usual cause the person who gave me the phone didn't pay the phone off so it got locked.
Well during the unlock process I kept having issues so I went into my SuperSU app and instead of hitting temporary unroot I hit full unroot. Don't have a computer with me and i won't have access to one for a bit cause I am sleeping in my car at the hospital cause my dad got a hella bad infection.
So is there anyway to root the G2 by just flashing the latest supersu zip like I do on my nexus 5 and 4 and 7 and a few other non nexus devices
