Buying s4 soon, have a questions. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hello,
I have s3 on Verizon and I will be moving over to att soon. I want to know where the correct root for att s4. Reading all of threads has me overwhelmed.
First thing I would root then install custom recovery back up and finally select any Roms only for att.
Thanks!

Right now buying an s4 from att will have the MF3 update on it, and right now there's no known root method for it unless you already had the phone rooted before the update. I'm running the non-rooted with MF3 and its been really good but then there's been times where I want to root just to tether. But the S4 is really a great phone to have with the 13 mp camera I could of never taken any pictures like I have with my iphone. Great speed, battery life, SD card slot for more storage also can replace the battery quickly.

Ah, darn. I hope there will be root methods soon. Thanks letting me know. The s4 is coolest , all the things can be done without root is good.

This is not for sure as there is obviously a large amount of s4's sitting in warehouses and stores that were shipped before the mf3 update. So I would just make sure that you turn the phone on for the 1st time without the sim inserted to prevent the push update to mf3 then root/install recovery and flash a custom rom. Chances of you getting an mf3 phone now after only a week of it being out is very slim.

Is it worth updating Nexus 4?

Hi guys, I just bought my nexus 4. I'm really hesitant in updating because I also own a nexus 7 and when I updated that, my tablet was just flawed from left to right so I ended up downgrading it back to 4.1.2. Also, I hear that there is a way to enable LTE, but that with the new update the LTE function goes away? I would really appreciate to hear you guys' opinions. Thanks!

I updated my Gnex and my Nexus 7 but i won't update my Nexus 4, i wanna keep my lte connection, it's up to you, if you don't need lte go ahead and update.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Even if you do update to the latest you can still flash a different radio which will give you the option to use lte.
Oh ok just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't lose the LTE option. Does the new update have any flaws? Or are u happy with the new update and what are the differences between 4.2.1 and 4.2.2?

I think a lot of us are on the 4.2.2 update. Those who didn't update are of course on 4.2.1 because they want their LTE. I would like to a say a majority of the members are on 4.2.2.
Some folks are still having Bluetooth and WiFi issues. Problems like the difficulty of connecting to their device and the same for WiFi. This is plaguing some users but not all. Just a small percentage. On my end everything is working fine. It's just weird to hear others are having these problems. I never have any issues with my devices. If you want to update to 4.2.2, I strongly suggest you do a super clean install/update.

Oh ok well it's good to hear that there isn't as many problems with the update as there was with the nexus 7. But I am a bit hesitant because I'm on T-Mobile and I hear that they are about to get LTE in my area. I live in Los Angeles.

Lol. I live in NY and I think LTE is available on T-Mobile here as well.
If you want to use LTE, then don't update yet. If 4.2.1 is working fine don't update it.

Yes. As long as you find the stock rom/custom rom based on what you're looking for.

I couldn't find the 4.2.1 rom on the google website that's why. They only have the 4.2.2 rom.

4.2.2 has been better for battery life, at least for me. You should update it. And for LTE you can flash old radio, but might not work with the latest versions of certain ROMs, so do your research on that. I believe you can just do a nandroid for 4.2.1 (not 100% on this)

Yeah thanks for the advice, and your right about the battery life because I feel that considering that the nexus 4 has a 2100mah battery the battery doesn't last long enough. If I can do a nandroid backup then it would be awesome. I'm pretty new to the nexus 4 scene, so I appreciate everyone's help thus far.

anyone have a link to the 4.2.1 stock ROM. i think my speaker for my phone has gotten lower with the 4.2.2 update and i want to downgrade it.
http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-4/occam/
It's the third one down the list on the "images". Use 7zip to unpack the files and flash away!
EDIT: There is the option to have 4.2.2 with the 33 baseband to retain the LTE, however that has caused problems for people so the only official way to make it work with LTE is to flash 4.2.1 with the 33 base.

Rooting

Two days with the phone. Do I need to root yet?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Depends what you need. If this is your first Android device, better get to know the OS before rooting. If you have rooted an android device you own(ed) before, you might give it a shot.
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Rooted before with the HTC but I'm not sure how much different the galaxy is to root.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
I'll tell you this: I've rooted my last three phones, now, and the S4 was exponentially easier to root than the other two (Evo Shift and Moment). I used Chainfire's CF Auto Root, and as the thread on it tells you, if it takes you more than 30 seconds, you just need practice.
I rooted my phone the moment the option came out. Now its a matter of testing out the roms until i find the right one.
I would at least root and remove as much bloatware as possible.

If your network was unstable you wouldnt be able to get any signal at all but it wouldnt make your phone reboot. Have you tried factory reseting your phone??

Dude you ain't the only one. The MF9 update has been a major pain the @$$ for a lottt of people. I wonder if Sprint is working on a new update. Hopefully push it out before the end of September. Although I am really liking MF9, I am probably in the minority. My device is smooth as hell and great battery life. Just yesterday I went 20hrs with 3hrs of on screen time!
Im having a similar problem. Random reboots when data is connected. I first thought it was the connection in my area that was causing the problem to (NV just started in Cleveland) until I encountered reboots while on WiFi. It doesn't matter what app I'm using as long is it uses the internet connection my phone may freeze vibrate two to three times then reboot. I even reapplied the MF9 update and the same problem exist.
I'm completely stock!
Thank You Based God!

Take the plunge and root the device! I purchased mine 2 days ago, bought an unlock code and rooted the device. It was a WIND Mobile version which had LTE crippled (since WIND only supports a MAX speed of 4G). I installed the Telus firmware (ROM) and enabled the regional carrier settings to enable the LTE radio band. I have no regrets!
Well went to download cf auto root then i see to check for multitouch issue and find out my new baby is sick
That leaves me with two questions
1 is there a fix
2 will it get any worse because as it is it doesn't bother me but if it were to get worse who knows

My Note 3 from Telus came region unlocked. I sim unlocked it same day. But i do not have multi touch issues. It registers all 10 fingers and when moving all 10. If u shell out lots of cash best get the best possible. But if it doesnt bother u. Take the plunge. Its worth.

This thing for $99 is a great deal. Your paying the retail off over two years and also get 4G. I am happy as hell with this tablet.

How's the battery life? My galaxy 7.7 had terrible battery life even in airplane mode. Yes I mean the VZW 7.7. I won't but carrier tablets anymore since the wifi models get all the community support.

Ok, I ran an Antutu Benchmark on my new VZW LG G Pad 8.3 and the result is 19327.
That is lower than a Sony Xperia Z, Note 2, HTC One and very nearly the same perfomance as a Galaxy S3. Games hitch and falter and navigating between homescreens is not fluid.
Is this really how this tablet is supposed to perform? From the reviews, I expected it to be more fluid than a Nexus 7.

I spent 2 hours yesterday trying to get ADB detected--changing drivers 20 times, etc. Your advice worked great!!.
All of my other devices are rooted, so I'm i withdrawal on this VZW Gpad. The guy at Verizon laughed when I told him what a nice device it was if it weren't for the nearly 100 apps running on it. He said that means we that many partners paying us for the installs.
I have tried the following with no luck:
kingo root_gpad.zip package: initially gave an error saying cannot mount as read-write. it did copy and install superuser, but when running superuser it gave an error updating binary.
adb reboot bootloader reboots with the android error logo, but volume up+power or volume down+power did not bring up any menu options http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575783
Reeeaaallly hoping this gets a root soon. I think it can really be improved with a tiny little overclock and clean 4.4.
I look forward to seeing some dev action (and donating to them, of course) for our new LG-VK810's. My GF surprised me with one of these this past weekend and it's the perfect size between my Nexus 7 2013 and my HP Touchpad.
I just picked up my VZW LG G PAD today and immediately came home ready to root. I see no method is yet available for our variant yet? Does anyone know of any method currently available to root yet?

I used Kingo Root also and according to Root Ckecker and ES File Explorer I am indeed rooted but according to the Kingo Application everytime I connect it still says i'm not rooted and click to begin root process. Another thing is I was connected through modem and not ethernet to get Kingo to run.
It says you're rooted...but can you remove bloat using titanium backup...if we can do that I'll be happy for a long while until we get other options.

The Kingo root method from my understanding and research is controversial within the script it contains when applying root to your device. I personally am staying away from it until an alternative method is made available to properly root the VZW edition of the LG G PAD. As badly as I am ready to root my tablet and start flashing away, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic with that particular method.
