[GUIDE]How to setup 240 dpi on your rom

Hey everyone.
This is my first post in s3 section. I made a guide on how to setup 240 dpi on note 2 and I thought it would be a great idea since the requisites are available for both the phones.

Hey everyone
This is my first guide so please be polite
In this guide I will show you how to setup 240dpi or possibly any dpi on your rom.
Links to all the requisites will be given below.
But what is dpi ?
It is the value that manages most ui of the system. a lower dpi means everything would be smaller hence more things could be fitted in the giant screen we have. a higher means everything would be larger hence less could be fitted into the screen
Before We Begin I Want To Clarify The Following-
1)First and foremost I am not responsible for any damage you cause.
2)I assume you have already rooted your phone and have some experience with rooting.
3)You have made backup to be sure that in case you mess up you you can return to what it was like before.
4)Read the whole post before actually starting.
5)Please Hit Thanks If I Helped You
So let's Begin-
1)Download and setup xposed framework (Very good instructions on how to do it in the thread) (You need to reboot).
2)Download these modules - xposed app settings , gappscrashfix , all apps in play store.
3)Enable all the 3 modules (You need to Reboot).
4)Now open xposed app settings and set open each app listed below and in dpi enter 320 but don't change anything else.
-calculator
-camera
-clock
-contacts
-dialer storage
-fm radio
-messaging
-task manager
-touchwiz home
-weather widget main
Now some of these could be skipped or some could be added(can be tested but imao that will make the ui ugly but still it's completely your choice).
Also modded versions of some of these apps has been provided by bala_gamer.
5)Before we begin copy the modded samsung keyboard from the link given or setup some other keyboard and make it default.
6)Now open /system/build.prop or use a build.prop editor if you are very conscious and change the following line "ro.sf.lcd_density=320" to "ro.sf.lcd_density=240"
7)Now before we reboot we need to include apply one fix , so instead of rebooting , power off your phone
8)Then go into recovery and flash the modded samsung keyboard.
9)Reboot and enjoy 240dpi.
Note -
1)The stock keyboard will constantly force close on 240 dpi (if you use xposed settings to set it to 320dpi, you will be practically unable to use it), so bala_gamer(thank him) has customized it to work properly on 240 dpi.
2)Recovery must be custom (ofcourse ).
3)Be sure to flash the correct version of modded apps (i.e. 4.1.1 if you have it or 4.1.2 if you have that)
4)I don't know if gappscrashfix and allappsinplaystore are actually required but nothing bad in using it.
5)I know the explanation of dpi is incorrect but that's all you need to know.
6)Installing xposed framework doesn't affect simplistic framework at all.
7)The gappscrashfix and allappsinplaystore you download would be in .zip format. Just rename them to .apk and you can install it then.
8)Many apps especially the system ones or samsung ones aren't ment to scale well. They are just meant to look good at 320dpi so they will look way ugly at 240dpi. To fix this xposed settings is used. You need to set it for each app that you think is ugly.
9)Please Hit Thanks If I Helped You

The guide is exactly same so I am quoting it.
All that is changed that you have to get modded apps from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873026
Nice one but I prefer this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
Easy to use and works perfectly

That just modifies the DPI in build.prop. It does not make apps scale selectively. If I'm not mistaken, the Xposed FW is like what Paranoid Android has with its Hybrid engine, where you can selectively scale apps.

Correct but that will only do the step 6 of this guide if I am not wrong and most of the ui would be broken

xposed dpi app settings

So I got my ATT s4 last night. It's now rooted with superuser and froze all my bloat with tibu. Question is can I use xposed installer and xposed settings to set my dpi on a per app level?? Loving the phone. Coming from my beastly S3.
I did it and it softbricked my phone . Had to to a master clear from stock recovery. You are welcome to try
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
DON'T install it, unless you'd like to go through the (thankfully now available) softbrick recovery method(s).
I typically use ROM Toolbox to change my LCD Density . Is it a bad idea for now since I might f-ed it up and the only way of recovering it is via soft bricked recovery method?

Not 100% sure as I haven't tried it myself, but IIRC several users reported bootlooping after trying to change the density via build.prop edits (which I'm pretty sure is basically what ROM Toolbox does).
If you really want to change it, I recommend using the App Settings module for Xposed...rovo89 released an updated version (2.1.4) of the Xposed framework that is compatible with our S4's.
yeah, so far all dpi changes I've read about on the forums have lead to softbricks, so I'd avoid for now
I'm running 380 dpi right now via Rom Toolbox Pro. Also using xposed framework as rovo has put up a build that works for all s4's and htc one's. Using 480 dpi for camera and contacts. Those are the only 2 apps that do not look correctly @ 380 dpi. I have someone working on the dialer for us to work correctly @ 380 dpi. Here's the link for xposed. Make sure to download and install 2.1.4 version of the xposed installer.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I'll probably going to wait for a bit before I mess around with the DPI. I had a softbrick not too long ago on the Skyrocket and that was an easy fix with a Nandroid.

Okay I can't take it anymore. I need a smaller DPI. It's driving me nuts. Do I just download the XposedInstaller_2.1.4.apk and install it and then change the DPI settings via Rom Toolbox ? How do you make the app to stay 480 DPI for those that are not compatible like dialer and such ? Can I replace the apk from the ones on this thread ?

[App]{MotoActv] MotoActv DPI

This is another one of the apps i have been working on lately, it allows you to Change your MotoActv's DPI to three options
-90 dpi (my personal favorite)
-100 dpi
-stock (120 dpi)
notable features:
-Stays on reboots
-Dpi sticks even when app is uninstalled (through build.prop method)
-simple 3-button menu with easy to read insturcions
simple as that, requires a ROOTED MotoActv with working SuperUser, and has only been tested and confirmed on ClearD's ClearRom (and my personal mod of it released on his thread)
feel free to include this in ANY MotoActv rom(with or without credits, since credits are in almost all my apps), as it should work universally for them, but not recommended for phones, ad the dpi is WAAAAYYYY too small for em lol
download:
Google Play Store Download Link
Awesome! Will be testing now!

it works fully with working SuperUser, im getting my github in order and im going to make it open source, right now im figuring out a good way to do my github arrangement, as the old one didnt work well apparently i cant make the projects ina sub-folder without it counting as a whole project lol
but its simple and uses open-source librarys that were featured on xda-developers' protal not too long ago, im adding credits to it once i get ym github in order =)
New version uploaded:
new features include:
-button red background (fixes dark text on dark background for those using ClearD's Cleardroid rom, now included in his roms, and will keep updates here)
Download link still the same
Thanks, great app!!!
Is there anyway to get the motoactv launcher icons and stuff to stretch to the new api. For ex: the running person to being workout is small and left aligned.
Maye there is a custom motoactv "stock" launcher?

idk i never messed with the layout of the stock launcher =S, it might work, but things like the volume slider will not be able to fix easy, as its rom-sided, but the DPI is mostly how it reads to the screen, so unless its a .9.png image it wont stretch unless its setup with different images so unless someone modifies the launcher with those fixes, u will have to get used to the misaligned icons or goto stock when u want it to look desent, as its only a button tap away but im testing some mods for the ReActv rom atm, i love using CLEARDROID alot, but untill he gets a stable build made for me to implement my mod pack imma mod mine with Reactv for a bit untill then, i already got it rooted(as for some reason superuser wasnt working in my flash, so i used a different exploit), testbuild init.d, my mod_pack items+scripts, removed unneeded system apps+Ringtones+files, removed items leading to some battery drain(from missing cellular anteaneas), and working on native screenshot at this minute acually lol so im kinda busy, along with mods to my app SMS Tasks trying to make it work better w/o root through custom recovery making it a system-signed system app for non-root reboots+More Reliable gps Toggle features
If you want to fix the stock launcher when running a custom DPI, then I'd suggest you go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44034334&postcount=2315
and install the xposed app as well as xposedappsettings. Then you can simply set the motoactv stock apps to run at 120dpi as they were intended, while everything else can run at whatever you default to. It can be used to fix some other apps that crash at specific DPIs or screen orientations too.
to all u MotoActv Users with ROOTED MotoActv's and Google Play Store access i changed the link in the OP to my new Google Play Merchant account so if i make any updates (even if this app is considered FINAL as its already the best it can be for its purpose) u can download +restore it there to save some internal sdcard space from an APK download =)

I'm unable to download from the Play Store, but flashing apk's via ADB is working fine. If you still have it would you mind sharing the APK for this DPI app?

Download the fonts in the "download font" option that takes you to the Google Play Store.
Sent from my Galaxy S5 G900P running R.D.D.T Mystery Build v1.1 using Mystery Build Stock Kernal
Tried that also doesn't work

@russcausier iFont is the best I've used.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kapp.ifont
I installed the following and was able to change the fonts with ease.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.monotype.android.font.flipfont.develop.clean
Once installed go to settings/display/fonts/font style. I'm currently running Clean_Pennition. Gloria M Stone has released a lot of great font packs so you should be able to find something you like.
Thanks guys the ifont used to work on older galaxy but now says root, I'll try other one but have found one that works with galaxy called hifont in play store

I was able to use that same font pack with no trouble on my S5.
I would however like to use my own truetype font files. Found several ways to package them into an apk, which puts them in the font list with preview, but when I select one it says it's not supported. Same issue using the XDA POWER FONTS package (I didn't try all 650 of them though).
iFont worked with the font I tested (downloaded using the app) if you don't have root, it downloads an apk and installs it so you can choose it from the font style menu, but the functions to use your own font are only available in the pay version. I might have to try that. The free version lets you download up to 3 per day which is great if the ones you want are there.
EDIT: yes! that worked! Best $1.93 I've spent this week. The iFont donate version worked with my ttf font. I selected it, chose the create apk option, and went and installed the APK and was able to select my font in the menu.

How to change font on LEX727 with stock ROM?

Hi guys!
I am in Stock Rom 5.8.021s with Root/ULB/TWRP and want to change the font. Are there any pack/ flash zip to do this or just take any app from Gplay that can do this? I am coming from MIUI (Redmi 3s) and thats apps does not work fine on MIUI (just one works fine) and sometime lead to bootloop, so EUI and MIUI look like same, I fear to get bootloop. So, any app work fine for changing Font?
Thank! Q:highfive:
I used Ifont on the Google Play store to change the font. It didn't change just the launcher.. everything on the phone almost changed to the font I chose.

What's the most readable font nowadays for old eyes? I maxed omnirom up to "largest" but some pages seem not to be using it.
