xposed dpi app settings - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

So I got my ATT s4 last night. It's now rooted with superuser and froze all my bloat with tibu. Question is can I use xposed installer and xposed settings to set my dpi on a per app level?? Loving the phone. Coming from my beastly S3.

I did it and it softbricked my phone . Had to to a master clear from stock recovery. You are welcome to try

DON'T install it, unless you'd like to go through the (thankfully now available) softbrick recovery method(s).

I typically use ROM Toolbox to change my LCD Density . Is it a bad idea for now since I might f-ed it up and the only way of recovering it is via soft bricked recovery method?

Not 100% sure as I haven't tried it myself, but IIRC several users reported bootlooping after trying to change the density via build.prop edits (which I'm pretty sure is basically what ROM Toolbox does).
If you really want to change it, I recommend using the App Settings module for Xposed...rovo89 released an updated version (2.1.4) of the Xposed framework that is compatible with our S4's.

yeah, so far all dpi changes I've read about on the forums have lead to softbricks, so I'd avoid for now

I'm running 380 dpi right now via Rom Toolbox Pro. Also using xposed framework as rovo has put up a build that works for all s4's and htc one's. Using 480 dpi for camera and contacts. Those are the only 2 apps that do not look correctly @ 380 dpi. I have someone working on the dialer for us to work correctly @ 380 dpi. Here's the link for xposed. Make sure to download and install 2.1.4 version of the xposed installer.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I'll probably going to wait for a bit before I mess around with the DPI. I had a softbrick not too long ago on the Skyrocket and that was an easy fix with a Nandroid.

Okay I can't take it anymore. I need a smaller DPI. It's driving me nuts. Do I just download the XposedInstaller_2.1.4.apk and install it and then change the DPI settings via Rom Toolbox ? How do you make the app to stay 480 DPI for those that are not compatible like dialer and such ? Can I replace the apk from the ones on this thread ?

[GUIDE]How to setup 240 dpi on your rom

Hey everyone.
This is my first post in s3 section. I made a guide on how to setup 240 dpi on note 2 and I thought it would be a great idea since the requisites are available for both the phones.
UtkarshGupta said:
Hey everyone
This is my first guide so please be polite
In this guide I will show you how to setup 240dpi or possibly any dpi on your rom.
Links to all the requisites will be given below.
But what is dpi ?
It is the value that manages most ui of the system. a lower dpi means everything would be smaller hence more things could be fitted in the giant screen we have. a higher means everything would be larger hence less could be fitted into the screen
Before We Begin I Want To Clarify The Following-
1)First and foremost I am not responsible for any damage you cause.
2)I assume you have already rooted your phone and have some experience with rooting.
3)You have made backup to be sure that in case you mess up you you can return to what it was like before.
4)Read the whole post before actually starting.
5)Please Hit Thanks If I Helped You
So let's Begin-
1)Download and setup xposed framework (Very good instructions on how to do it in the thread) (You need to reboot).
2)Download these modules - xposed app settings , gappscrashfix , all apps in play store.
3)Enable all the 3 modules (You need to Reboot).
4)Now open xposed app settings and set open each app listed below and in dpi enter 320 but don't change anything else.
-calculator
-camera
-clock
-contacts
-dialer storage
-fm radio
-messaging
-task manager
-touchwiz home
-weather widget main
Now some of these could be skipped or some could be added(can be tested but imao that will make the ui ugly but still it's completely your choice).
Also modded versions of some of these apps has been provided by bala_gamer.
5)Before we begin copy the modded samsung keyboard from the link given or setup some other keyboard and make it default.
6)Now open /system/build.prop or use a build.prop editor if you are very conscious and change the following line "ro.sf.lcd_density=320" to "ro.sf.lcd_density=240"
7)Now before we reboot we need to include apply one fix , so instead of rebooting , power off your phone
8)Then go into recovery and flash the modded samsung keyboard.
9)Reboot and enjoy 240dpi.
Note -
1)The stock keyboard will constantly force close on 240 dpi (if you use xposed settings to set it to 320dpi, you will be practically unable to use it), so bala_gamer(thank him) has customized it to work properly on 240 dpi.
2)Recovery must be custom (ofcourse ).
3)Be sure to flash the correct version of modded apps (i.e. 4.1.1 if you have it or 4.1.2 if you have that)
4)I don't know if gappscrashfix and allappsinplaystore are actually required but nothing bad in using it.
5)I know the explanation of dpi is incorrect but that's all you need to know.
6)Installing xposed framework doesn't affect simplistic framework at all.
7)The gappscrashfix and allappsinplaystore you download would be in .zip format. Just rename them to .apk and you can install it then.
8)Many apps especially the system ones or samsung ones aren't ment to scale well. They are just meant to look good at 320dpi so they will look way ugly at 240dpi. To fix this xposed settings is used. You need to set it for each app that you think is ugly.
9)Please Hit Thanks If I Helped You

And not to forget credits
-rovo89 for framework
-bala_gamer for modded apps
-numerous other people who helped me in some way or the other (please pm me if I forgot anyone).

Nice one but I prefer this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi

That just modifies the DPI in build.prop. It does not make apps scale selectively. If I'm not mistaken, the Xposed FW is like what Paranoid Android has with its Hybrid engine, where you can selectively scale apps.

Correct but that will only do the step 6 of this guide if I am not wrong and most of the ui would be broken

[Q] Individual app DPI change in AOKP

I was just wondering if there is any way to change individual app dpi's without using xposed framework. I have tried using the xposed framework and the appsettings module but it doesn't seem to be working in the latest task AOKP rom (I have not tried 4.2.2, just the latest 4.3).
If anyone has any suggestions of another app or a way to get xposed working correctly (or even just let me know that it works correctly so I know that I made an error somewhere) I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance

Note 3 Touchwiz DPI

2 questions.
I changed DPI on my Note 3 from 480 to 380. now some apps and touchwiz are glitched.
How to change DPI on touchwiz and other apps? I instaled Xposed and module called App Settings. Tried to change dpi to Tocuhwiz and System UI but still no diference. If i go to Xposed i got this in framework section:
Xposed is not (yet) compatibile with Android SDK version 21 or your processor architecture (armeabi-v7a)
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE:could not load library ''libdvm.so'' needed by ''/data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/app_process''; caused by library ''libdvm.so'' not found...
If i would be able to change DPI to Touchwiz. Could i put then 5 apps in one row or the row will be just streeched?
I tried launchers but i dont like them so much cuz they eating battery.
Thanks for help
I use Xposed with App Settings, mainly for a few apps that just dont fit my needs in screen compensation.
You need a DEODEXED ROM to use Xposed initially, and Stock ROMs (assuming you are using one) are ODEXED by default. And yea, try 420 DPI just in case...?
So Xposed wont work with stock rooted rom? Hmm then i would need to use launcher... any battery saving tips if i use another launcher?
Xposed will work with stock rooted ROM, but Deodexed. Use Nova Prime. What battery saving tips? Using a custom launcher doesn't drain any extra battery!
Just to clear things up, using a different launcher does not mean DEODEXED.
There are Pre-rooted, Deodexed Stock Roms around, just what you need.

[SM-G901F] Galaxy S5 Plus - DPI change messes up certain apps. How to fix that?

I changed the DPI of my S5 Plus to 400 instead of the default 480. Some apps now appear in smaller boxes on the screen. For me the biggest problem is that the camera now has this problem.
In other threads people bring this up for the normal s5. The solution is to use Xposed to set custom Appsettings. But the problem is that Xposed doesn't work (yet) on the S5 plus! So is there any other way to fix the camera app?
Cheers!

hmmm.... so how to install it? When I'm in the xposed installer app, it says: Xposed is not yet compatible with android sdk 21 or your processor architecture (armeabi-v7a)...
you just have to flash the latest xposed with your recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65373013&postcount=3960) and install xposed alpha 4 apk
I assume it also works with rovo89's official xposed but I'm not sure.

I think that you should try since we have the same firmware as the "standard" S5. It is just that our device is not very popular and so it is not on the list.
