And Yes, it does suck.
Here is a good place to start...

But there is a whole bunch of more on this issue throughout the forum. Good luck.
Oh, and you posted this question in the wrong forum. (fixed)
Here we go again...

Switch to AT&T and purchased a 32 gigabyte model and you shouldn't have a problem anymore. That's why there was so much heat on samsung for not releasing the other models with more internal space. However, I was speaking with AT&T rep and he told me that sales for the 32 gig models was extremely low and they never ran out of stock so I don't know if people are really that annoyed with the limited internal space because after all that pressure on Samsung they finally released a model with more internal space and people aren't buying it so maybe Samsung was right all along to not release anything but the 16 gigabyte model.

Maybe it's a stupid question to many, but... I have the chance to order a 32gb korean version of the S4 off Taobao.com, and since I live in China it's quite convenient. The only issue I have is that I refuse to use an android phone without rooting it, and I've been a happy Wanam user for a long time on my S3.
The taobao seller states that 16gb ROMs CANNOT be used for 32gb models AT ALL, but I know better than blindly trusting ignorant Chinese vendors who usually don't know what they are talking about (personal experience).
It does not matter whether it's 9500, 9505 or whatever, this seller has all the models (even 9508 dual sim), I just want to understand if SIZE is a problem or not... Will I be able to just simply root it, and keep using the stock ROM at least? Or maybe I'll even be able to install ANY 16gb ROM of my choice? Or none of the above???
Thanks!
P.S. I searched the S4 forums but found no reference at all to this question...

As long as you're flashing a i9505 ROM to an i9505-like(aka U.S. Carriers variants) device, and an i9500 ROM to an i9500-like device, you'll be just fine. Don't try to flash unlike devices(i.e. i9505 to i9500) though. Best case scenario, the flash will fail. Worst case, you'll brick the device.
Internal storage capacity has never, to my knowledge, had anything to do with what you could or could not flash.

That would be my same guess, although the seller was adamant to the fact that it won't absolutely work (he even declared that he tried himself...). Though I agree with you, I'll wait for some concrete proof, when 32 and 64 gb versions will be more widely available, or at least until someone comes out with a first-person experience of this.
Anyway, thanks

I don't want to call the guy out... but that seller has some very funny ideas; likely he was trying to flash unlike devices. If you want further feedback, I'd suggest posting this question over in the AT&T forums since the 32gb is more widely released. Further, from my past experiences, I've successfully flashed ROMs intended for the Developer Edition(64gb) of the HTC One onto my 32gb.
Let's say, hypothetically, he's correct--the developers who create the ROMs would be required to, perhaps not by forum rules but more so out of "I'm not responsible if you do this," declare their ROMs only usable by certain phones with certain storage capacities?
I will applaud you for taking your time, reading, and doing research before jumping into the fray. Is this your first phone you've rooted?

Not at all, I rooted my first HTC Legend years ago, then my current S3,and so on. Happy user of Wanamlite ROM on my current S3 at the moment. Anyway, I guess our idea is correct. Not to belittle the vendor's experience, but in MY experience PRC people can be quite often very ignorant, or appear so at the very least, and declare the impossibility of an action or a request just to avoid any sort of responsibility in case the crap hits the fan... Think it as a sort of "ultimate disclaimer": I told you not to do it, so if you try and break it it's your problem.
After saying all this, I guess I'm in no rush since my S3 is still working like a charm after more than one year, I'm just exploring the S4 alley since I bough a SUPERCOOL Nolan bluetooth helmet for my bike, I use 2 sim cards at the same time (1 personal=S3, 1 work=HTClegend) and the HTC Legend's bluetooth is sort of fried So I was looking for a way to upgrade things.
I'll follow your suggestion and try to post in the AT&T section as well.
Thanks!
I am upgrading my phone to the S4 today or tomorrow. When I was at the Sprint store checking it out, the guy I was working with said he was disappointed that one whole GB of the 2 GB of RAM on the S4 is completely allocated to the OS of the phone. 1 GB of RAM really?
I'm having a hard time believing that, I've searched for some articles and haven't found anything. Anyone care to shed some light on it?
Thanks in advance!

A brief discussion with user "unremarked" (thanks man!) hints to the fact that any inter-size flash should be theoretically possible, but I'm still hoping for some first-hand experience from you guys.
Thanks
I don't know what the sd card capacity has to do with it. Shouldn't make any difference. Are these knock offs he's selling? (I won't get into what I think of that)

I'm not talking about the SD card capacity, I'm talking about the embedded storage of the phones. And we are talking about REAL S4s in various configurations (9500, 9505, 9502 and so on). Since my question is apparently too complicated, let's pose it like this:
Example:
phone in my hands: ORIGINAL i9500 with 32gb INTERNAL MEMORY
what I want to do: flash a ROM that's been developed for a phone with 16gb INTERNAL MEMORY
Can-do?
It doesn't matter if the phone is 16GB or 32GB. One ROM fits them all.
Kind of like you installing Windows on your 100GB hard drive or your 2TB hard drive. As long as the *minimum* size is met, then you're good to go.

The ROMs aren't devolped for a particular sized GB phone.. Look at any of the ROM names or flash requirements.. NONE of them state you have to have a particular phone memory wise.. Just needs to be the right variant.. I've never heard of the 9502 or 9508 so can't say on them.. But if you have a i9500 phone then you can only flash ROMs made for the octacore processor in your phone.. So really you should be in the s4 i9500 forums as the AT&T, and Canadian variant phones are quad core not octacore

Relax dude, we're talking the same thing. Unless he's selling something that isn't what it seems it doesn't make any difference what the storage capacity is. Just like the other guys have said.

Thanks everybody for making this issue a bit clearer
Dear All,
I know what I'm asking is also personal preference.
Currently I own a Z1, but due to the bootloader issue when unlocking the bootloader your camera function breaks and very small rom community, it crossed my mind to buy a LG G2 (and what also helps is the terrific battery life).
The thing which is currently me holding back to buy a LG G2 is regarding the the 16GB. In The Netherlands they don't sell the 32GB version.
My questions are:
1. How much space does a custom LG stock rom software needs?
2. How much space does AOSP normally rom needs?
Thanks guys

I don't know how closely this will apply to your version, but my stock T-Mobile USA 32GB model shows 24GB of space, of which I've already used up 8 GB just loading up all my usual apps and such.
Seems like 16GB is likely to feel cramped.
Got the phone yesterday...so far, 1st impression, love it. Best phone I've owned...and I've owned quite a few

I think I asked somewhere. Since there it's no repartitioning. The roms take the same space.
Had before a 32GB hox. That was enough with USB otg.
Now this 16 having only 10 GB left. With one backup almost 3GB compressed. Some pics and one big game Asphalt and I can't do a second backup....
Without USB OTG a 16 would be for me unstable unusable....
Still waiting for my meenova

LG customers (along with many others) get 50gb free space on box for lifetime at the moment.
No effing way. The OS/ROM holds 9 GB ransom. I suppose 16GB would be OK for a casual user, but casual users wouldn't register for an XDA account.
Flipping ridiculous, man. I don't need, or particularly want, all the fancy animations and stuff. 9 gigs for a phone OS? The Linux instance on my HTPC is half that... Shoot, I can trim Windows 7 down to within spitting distance of that.
Can't wait for true skinny stable AOSP 4.4 on this device.

Hi all, as the title says, I'm asking: What's the overall available memory on the 32GB version? I had the 16GB version, but somebody stole me this device the third day, what I have it... Although I have this device few time, I was surprised and I love this device. The only bad thing was free memory, it wasn't enough for me... Now is the time to buy a new smartphone and I've got 2 candidates. This device and Note 3. I afraid too large display and burn in problem with amoled displays, so I rather want LG G2. But I afraid few available memory, so that's the reason why I'm asking for it. I wasn't able to find out it on Google, so please don't answer me: Use Google...
Thanks in advance,
Dominik
24.84GB out of 32GB :good:
Thank you very much bro...
That should be enough for me..
no problem dude.. its more than enough for me :good:
