worth getting the tab 2 7.0
Any known issues etc?
need to put a bid in ebay few hours left
the thread that this is discussed is prob so way back -- i havent located it yet

What do you want it for ?
Are you going to root/use a custom ROM ?
For general use the tabs ok, nothing special. Some nice ROMS available for it. All depends on what you want to use it for and how far you are willing to customize it !
Your not in London are you ? I'm looking to sell my tab  (P3113 WiFi only , white ,8GB)

as a replacement for my desire ( which i used as a second phone) primary use will be just to browse the net...maybe occasional calls but unlikely..
rooting wise - very noob at that so prob will leave it as standard
Its a little good tab , Plays most media out of the box. Think you'll get Ice Cream Sandwich on it ...Most recent ROM is JellyBean. The official updates are very slow from Samsung. You wont get all the top games for it on Google play but have a massive selection to choose from. I cant think of any bugs as such , although it gets a little laggy at times using a stock ROM, hence Root/Custom ROMs but its up to you.
You will get tons of Samsung's bloatware added to the ROM and it uses up space ... you have an external SD Card slot but you cant install apps on it.Its for media only.So space could become an issue over time. Another good reason to Root. You can flash an deodexed stock ROM back on to it with all the crap removed.
You will get plenty of support on the SGT7 forum, most users are friendly and very helpful. Just noticed the calls ... you want a P3100 , cant comment on the phone side of it as I'm WiFi only.
Its a nice tablet but if my 3113 wasnt a gift, id rather have gone with a 16gb Nexus not only for the Google support but the storage size as well. That measly 5gb available for storage goes quick. The sd card slot is almost a waste unless you download alot of crap or want to store roms on it.

storage for me isnt really an issue as im not really into playing games etc......
just wanting to know if as a whole package its worth paying for..
If you are getting it cheap , its worth it. Personally Id get a Nexus 7 but I've got the "Droid bug" , hence me upgrading to a Nexus 7 (32 GB WiFi) ( Same price as a new Samsung equivalent tablet)But out of the box the SGT2 7 works as its meant to.
Samsung has made a nice job of the ROM you get. Nice apps like the media player are good. Nice well made widgets as well, Chrome works well on the tab and the default browser is ok, The default e mail links to your accounts. WiFi works good.Obviously Google Apps are installed already.
All in all its not a bad tab , just better ones are out for a similar price now. I'm sure a lot of us regret buying this Tab and not getting/waiting for the Nexus 7...but that's the way it works and how technology is now days.
End of the day its your choice.
Ok, i own a 3g one so...
I use it as my main phone, the SMS(Messaging) app works very well, the dialer looks nice and responds quickly.

i have the 3g tab 2 7.0, and I'm loving it!!
i seldom use it as a phone since i have had a GS3 already
after upgrading it to jelly bean i find it really smooth and responsive!!
the storage is enough for me because i moved most of my game data to the external sd card
the only thing i think isn't so gd is the resolution of the LCD
compare with the 720p amoled of the GS3 i think 1024x600 is quite fuzzy...
however i really recommend you to try it yourself, as the nexus 7 is also a very good choice of performance

Hows the battery life like?
At the least a day on moderate use... left it in the basement over 3 days and it had 70% battery too... very good battery

Assuming the hardware is identical for the Google edition S4/ to the ATT version, i assume once you PhoneWizards get a hold of one of them and remove the ROM or Google is a G and releases that said ROM , we could jimmy that onto an ATT bought phone and be in Google heaven?
Like wise the updates could be applied as needed via the code release or extraction?
or is there some neeto software lock they are cooking into that so it wont work on a Non "edition" phone? (at least until the smarties hack it)
Okay thanks !
i booted up CM10.1 yesterday, and thank god for you people, i donated 10 bucks to the cause
This ROM's release will show how the developers at Google and HTC are at a different level when it comes to ROM development and stability! I can't wait for the release.
Agree

I totally agree. I can't imagine the rom being too different. I just purchased an ATT GS4 for $1.74 from BestBuy. I couldn't give up the deal especially with the GE GS4 going for over $500, but I'm hoping to install the GE rom on it. Either that or I'll sell mine on ebay and just buy the GE outright. I hope this comes soon. Wanted to put CM on it but read that I would lose the IR and bluetooth on it. Wasn't worth it for me to lose it.

From what I've been reading...the google edition probably won't have support for the ir blaster or other new sensors...but right now it is just speculation

I think the devs will be able to get it ported over to the other GS4 variants and vice versa for any google edition S4 owners who want the Samsung ux.

Google stock will have drivers for those sensors.. just lack of package to enable features (which is Touchwiz). Probably 3rd party remote apps still can use IR blaster.

I wonder if the Google edition S4 rom will support exFAT SDCards. If it does, I would switch from Samsung's roms. If it does not, I won't.
I most certainly will NOT use FAT32 formatting on my 64GB SDCard!!

So is the only true advantage of getting the google edition phone is that it will have the boot loader unlocked? Since the current loki way of getting custom roms into our phones can be later patched and prevent us from installing newer version of android OS? Sorry for the noob question and observation.. but I still have time to return this the gs4 and just wait for the google edition so I'm trying to decided what is the best choice here.. I have the 32gb version which I would be losing that extra space and I'm hoping they offer it in black

Well...I wouldn't return it if you got it with a contract, from what I understand the google edition will not be sold by carriers under a contract...so no $200 subsidized price. You will have to pay the full $600+ it costs...so if your interested in it than your probably gonna want to sell your s4 on craigslist for as close to full retail you can get...you should easily be able to pull in $600 for the 32gb
As far as other benefits besides an unlocked bootloader, we are not sure. It may or it may not come with drivers for the new sensors, one user claimed a page back that it would have drivers just not programs to use them...we don't know that, there is no solid evidence I'm aware of that says drivers will be included, its all speculation right now...I'm hoping they include drivers, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it either

Almost certain things like the IR blaster wont be functional in the Google Edition devices, they already stated that the HTC One GE ir blaster won't be supported.
Curious why this isn't a more hot topic right now with the phones releasing tomorrow. Is there another thread somewhere with updated info?
Samsung AND HTC have google editions now

Why not? There are ways to format a 64GB card as FAT32. I did so just fine on mine.
I'm curious about this as well. I'm using Nova Launcher, so at least I don't have to deal with TouchWiz, but pure would be nice...

There are a couple of reasons.
File size
FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. That does not exist on a exfat filesystem. If I want to drop a 5-8GB HD movie on my sdcard, I can with exfat. With fat32, I need to either transcode the movie down to fit or split it up.
Fragmentation.
While the general thought is that SDCards don't need to be defragmented due to there being no moving parts, there is a study here that shows much different results: http://www.lagom.nl/misc/flash_fragmentation.html The results are shocking! Now add in the 32K cluster sizes (32GB sdcards only need 16k clusters) and you will see that fat32 filesystems would be a really bad idea for >32GB (or any for that matter) SDCards. Microsoft won't even support it. You have to go to third party utilities to force formatting these to FAT32. If Microsoft refuses to support >32GB on a drive with FAT32, what do they know that we don't? It is their file system!
Fat32 is simply a beefed up version of the FAT filesystem that was created in the 1970s. There really is no real difference beyond the bits used in the file allocation table to support larger and larger volumes. It is absolutely archaic in how it stores files and heavily prone to fragmentation. Worse, due to the limited lifespan of an SDCard or SSD, it is not recommended to defragment these often. Exfat has had its file allocation functions totally revamped to reduce or remove fragmentation. In fact it was designed specifically with solid state storage in mind.
So yeah, I'm, not keen on formatting my 64GB SDCard with FAT32. In fact if I could get away with exfat on my 32GB sdcard I be tempted to use it there too.
Hell, I would even be happy with ext2 or ext3 on my SDCard. I have no problem accessing Linux filesystems on my Windows box.
Im about to swap my Iphone 5 for an s4
having owned HTC ONE, Note 2, Xperia z before, i terribly miss Android...
My concern for the s4 is memory space, I've read that only 9GB are available
also battery life is meant to be less than the HTC ONE is this true
and people have said stear clear as the s4 lags like crazy
hopefully im making the right decision, any advise would be great
Memory is ~ 9 GB , it's right. I don't have a HTC One but I can say the S4 Battery is ok. I don't know if you will stay on stock or you will root and use custom roms/kernel , with original stock you can come on 4-5 hours screen on time, with custom roms and kernel more ( my own experience , every user and phone are different )
About lags I can't say anything,I never use stock roms , with aosp I have no lags.

It's enough, you can use a external SD Card you can move apps to SD yes ( I think with stock it's possible too but as I say I never use stock roms ). I never need it, I have 200+apps on my phone ,a lot of backups, pictures and more and never had problems with space only music is on my external card. For me personal the space is enough

I would say that new firmware has bought the new Knox bootloaders on them. Again certain things will trigger the Knox warranty status making Knox useless but apparently also making the warranty useless and you can't reverse this not yet anyway if you trigger the flag. Bare that in mind if warranty is something that is crucial.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
I dont care about the Knox.
When there will be a hardwarematic problem with my s4 I will repair it self.
I dont need Samsung or Apple for this. (I owned more then 10 iPhones in the past without any need of the customer service)
Iphones are so overated with iOS 7 and the animations that go with the new os. touchwiz lag will be unnoticeable compared to that, but a good thing is you can turn off all the animations which in iphones you cant plus turn off s-voice via home key and it'll fly. If I was you I'd trade it for a 32 gig. I traded my 16 gig iPhone 5 for a 32 gig. But I mean the deal is on the table now and a 64 gig SD card with apps to SD is helpful. Plus rooting an adding a ROM makes it much better.

Like everyone above said, you can install apps on the SD card. Also it works nicely with samsung smart tvs (Allshare and tv remote controls via WatchON app). I'm currently running Omega v13 ROM and theres no lag whatsoever.
Thanks for all your advice, best response from any post I've had on these forums. Thanks for not just telling me to google it.
Must admit I'm quite excited about having so many sensors. Like barometer, temp, proximity. Are there apps that utilise these.

I can't really say because I'm in the US but even if we unlocked a phone say att for Verizon or vice versa we wouldn't be able to utilize the data plan like a carrier based phone. So say you got LTE on att phone but att won't allow you to bring an unlocked Verizon phone to att you can still get service make phone calls but you won't be able to get LTE and its just a headache to deal with. If I was you I'd shop around some more and see if you can get your carriers s4.

Developers have lives. plus if you read CMs site and blogs and posts you'll see that schoolwork comes first for a couple of them, plus they probably won't bother with the Note 3 until KitKat is released... If you are that desperately craving AOSP why did you buy a Samsung device? A company that is notoriously slow with updates/ROM stuff etc.... - Just sell it and go buy a Nexus.
Aosp stands for android open source project. Aka stock android.

That's the answer. Samdung has an absolutely horrible history in the Open Source community, and it's not getting better anytime soon. Anybody who wants AOSP/CM ROMS should NEVER buy a Samdung device.
They do make great devices, but they have the worst attitude toward the dev community, routinely providing incomplete and/or outdated sources and/or the absolutely bare minimum required for a questionable level of GPL compliance, and they'll never provide userspace drivers, which is where 90% of the problems are in supporting their devices.
It's just a reality, and anyone hoping for full compliance and an open and friendly attitude toward AOSP/CM community is delusional.

Give me an SD Card option or at least 64GB option and I will do it asap, that's all i ask, i don't even need removable battery and 5.7 inch screen, just SDCard or bigger storage option and powerful processor(Snap 800 is fine!). Please don't tell me about "mighty cloud services" i want normal storage for my music.
But guys tell me one thing, there is no such thing like Galaxy Note 2 google edition and there is a CM rom, there is no LG G2. Sony Z1 and others Google edition roms, and they have CM or any other stock android variations literally DAYS after release, note has none, totally, literally, NOTHING. Why no love for note ? I really don't get it. :crying:
Few people are ready to give up the support for S-Pen and adopt AOSP based roms. Besides the S-Pen is the main reason people buy the note series.
I actually bought the phone because it makes an awesome reading device. I only used s pen to try it out. i yet have to find the killer feature I would use it more often for.
I'm rooted, added a different launcher and some widgets and it comes now pretty close to what I wanted. If you want other roms, be patient. It took long for the razr HD but I finally put pacman rom on it. So I'd say it comes down to what you really want. If the latest FW is top priority you have to live with small onboard memory. I prefer the big screen and have all my apps and music right on the phone on a 64gb sd card including navigation and maps. I can't stand all this cloud stuff for different reasons, the biggest one being privacy. But these are just my 2 cent.

Pretty same as me, i just need storage for all my music and i was really tired because my iphone 4 32GB was almost always fullfiled to the max, I hate deleting and need to choose between tracks. Same reasons here. But big screen in a small frame was what sold it. Almost got the oppo, but besel and weight made note3 the best hardware. Figured the snapdragon would make this device fully aosp supported, but so far no love.
SPen..? I've got gmd pen gestures, papyrus, better screenshot, etc. I can easily have all the "tw functions" i need on an aosp rom. Samsung has nothing that I can't get better versions of through play
Imagine this hardware and omnirom.. I can't wait, and as soon as an alfa is out I'm on it..

I would absolutely LOVE an AOSP stock rom for my Note 3. Something like the google play edition of the S4 would be perfect... really surprised this has not been done yet, especially with the hardcore specs of the Note 3, hopefully OmniROM will provide our needs!

Would like to point out that Shift phone has just released there new phone 6mq with changeable battery, Jack stick and Micro SD card! The 3 main things a mobile NEED to even be interesting to look at.
I have now rooted the Shift 6mq phone with Magisk and we have a dirty TWRP working as well, although still having issues on the later but it is in its beginning stages of this phone. SHIFT6mq - Bootloader unlock / Root / Custom Recoveries / ROMs | SHIFTPHONES
Would anyone be willing to look at the Shift 6mq so we can further support this little German company who goes against the stream of nonsense, it has Android 10 out of the box, they are still working on a Google version and a Light version so you have the choice.
But it is looking good, finally a contender to the old LG V20 - which I have had for my daily driver for 4-5 years or so. A wonderful phone although getting old and it had its shortcomings as well, like the screen Ghosting and not easy to root if even possible.
The LG V20 was the last flagship phone with the 3 essentials - and now we FINALY have something to take over from here!
Would love to see the community support this new mobile and help these guys out, I have toyed and tinkered around with it - and it is possible to pretty much ruin it and get it up and running again although a lot of hooping around, but it can be done already.
So if anyone have the know how, or interest to support a little company who at least stands on some sanity with there phone - it would be nice to see LineageOS support for it.
I don't know much about stuff like that, I just do some newbie rooting and such at the moment, having had to root my new used V20 F800K that already sadly does ghosting. And my new Shift 6mq which I got 10 days after my V20 F800K rescue boat came around to relieve my old V20 H990N Hongkong version as it was and is falling apart. I did not know when I would receive my Shift 6mq but it came around 10 days after I got the new used Korean version of the LG V20. Anyway at least it could be rooted, so that will help me get all my applications over to the new Shift 6mq, which is another milestone that needs to be walked.
Anyway, if any programmers are out there, or people who knows stuff, it would be a nice project for some sanity to support this new phone from Shift, seemingly a good replacement for the old LG V20. I still need to get it up and running and see how it works in daily use, but it looks like it will be a good phone for the next 5 years for me.
Not a surprise it is faster then the LG V20, benchmark shows a good leap - 128 GB of internal space although the system itself is 21 GB compared to 9 GB on the LG V20 which had 64 GB. 8 GB of Ram, although not sure what I need that much for, but I could not live without more internal space as I am always using it so quick on the LG V20, books, maps and such takes a lot of space and what not. One of the reasons I disqualified the Fairphone 3 when looking at both phones, only having 64GB of internal memory, is just not going to do it for me. I actually ended up just ordering another LG V20 but because of corona nonsense they would not send it to me, being much cheaper solution. And needing a new phone, I had to then go with the Shift 6mq which was 5-6 times as much compared to the 4-5 year old LG V20. Anyway, if a phone does not have the 3 essentials, I won't buy it, not interested!
Anyway...
So guys, anyone up for looking at it? If you need any help I am here. I have toyed around with it, and breaking it, I can get it up and running again. I've done it a couple of times now... And still doing some testing on TWRP which seems to have a failing bug that I need to report.
But in any case, would love to see anyone starting working on it.
Dearly regards

You did a great thing by using a phone for over 4 years. These are why companies are making better phones with long term support - if you can replace the battery or screen for cheap, and your carrier doesn't offer you a "deal" on a new phone, why would you want one?
Now me on the other hand, in 6 years I've daily driven 5 phones and 8 versions of Android, including 4 custom ROMs.
HOWEVER, I did it sustainably - using only phones given to me for free with the exception of the Moto G and a used S10e.
