Nothing confirmed yet, but the future holds a very bright and good ending. Besides, i don't see any reasons why HTC wouldn't do this...considering they would only release 50k units of the HTC ONE Nexus.
This is definitely a win-win for both consumers and HTC.
Here's the article i just read: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_might_release_aosp_rom_for_current_htc_one_owners-news-6132.php

It's not entirely a win-win. I read that in order for HTC to release such an update (providing AOSP to all normal HTC One owners), they have to go trough every carrier and other legal stuff. I don't remember where I read it and I don't remember exactly what the article said, but the conclusion I remember: it would cost HTC time & money (and stress, probably) to release an AOSP rom for current HTC One owners.
I hope they do it though. Would be awesome!
edit: Ah, I think I just remembered something. They have to go through every carrier because otherwise the AOSP Rom (update) would not be able to legally use the mobile networks of the carriers or something...
hopefully they'd be able to release an aosp rom for carrier unlocked phones without any legal ramifications.
do you think this will pave the way for future android phones to be released with stock android and the specific manufacturer apps (zoe, sense, touchwiz, etc) to be added as separate apps? this would surely cure the 'fragmentation' of android that iPhone users are always complaining about.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will not be an ota. It will prolly be an ruu, available for developer edition and maybe unlocked international versions. No carrier approval needed
When we have s-off anyone(gsm, anyway) should be able to flash it.
It's kind of neat, but not that big of a deal. You can always run cm if you want AOSP.

I've been following the ics project since after my birthday (11/27/11) and a lot has changed but when it comes to (FFC) it came to me that its not gonna work till maybe after the summer or never, whenever HTC gives out the code bit what's your opinion about the ics for the EVO 4G?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This doesnt belong in the Android Development section, belongs in GENERAL.
My bad I thought it was general at first. The system will automaticly do it for me as usual.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ummm my opinion on it is that if they dont want to they shouldnt. It will give us an awesome rom but more importantly that means our wonderful devs are learning stuff. this means that in the future they can use these experiences to help them in work or in other aspects of there personal lifes. so dev on guys you are doing great
Why in the world should they stop working on ICS? It makes little sense.
Deck and Kang and others are making great ICS ROMs for lots of phones, not just the EVO4G.
htc will release the code.. because it is an open source project. when is the question, not if.
ics will come..

The OS code is open source. The device drivers are not last I knew. So no, HTC does not have to release driver code.
HTC may release the FFC code for our OG's as soon as they sell enough of their newer devices.
They seem to be dragging their feet in releasing the official ICS updates for the Evo 3D and the Evo Design when they said they would, but they're holding it back, why? Cuz they want to sell enough of the One series models before they officially update the older HTC models that are scheduled to be updated with ICS.
Its kinda crappy of HTC to do that, but hey, they're a "for-profit" business.
But in answer to your question, heck no they shouldn't stop developing ICS for our OG Evo's! This sh*t is fun as hell.
From AOKP b31 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
what is the point of this thread? why is that a question? sorry no disrespect.
Yeah, I don't get why a thread was started for this. But why should devs abandon ICS on Evo? Because they can't get FFC to work!? I've been on ICS since the minute they got camera working (around Xmas), and could NEVER imagine going back to GB or Froyo (well, ...maybe froyo).
Keep up the awesome work, all who are working on ICS for Evo.

The evo is EOL(end of life) HTC doesn't have to support it any longer meaning they won't release any source for it as they are not working on ICS for the device. Hardware mfgs may release source for the same hardware in other devices, like they did with the adreno or the devs may code their own drivers. But don't expect HTC to do a damn thing for the evo, period.

All I'm saying we have a lot of people love the ics Rom but some people hate it cause no 4G. But let me tell one thing about the ics it came a lot since then and like some people who are poor or they don't make a lot of money, its hard to keep up with ics roms when the last two months the biggest change was 4.0.4 which is like starting all over again. Don't get me wrong with the debate about their work, its freaking amazing, but the biggest break through will be the ffc. Closest to that is from a horse ride to a plane ride experience
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I don't think that they should stop working on the ICS ROM's. I went from Sense to Ice Cream Sense to ICS and having ICS on my phone is like having a brand new phone. We don't have 4G in our area, and the front facing camera I hardly used. I am using gummyWorms ICS right now and so far had no major problems with it. There are minor glitches sometimes but, that is no big deal. I hope that the ICS developers can get everything working and I know that it will take time to do so. I appreciate all of their hard work in bringing us some ICS goodness to our phones.
Not sure if this question has been answered yet or if there's already something in the works.
Has anyone heard or know of a Sense ROM thats being ported to the N4?
I do prefer AOSP over Sense any day but I love variety and switch it up up every now and then. Not to mention that I would love to see how the N4 handles it with its 4 cores and all..
Feel Free to post any Links, Rumors, Opinions, and/or leads on other similar topics.
With release of HTC M7 around the corner hopefully that will strike a match on Sense for N4!!
Thanks for your interst.
It would take an enormous amount of effort from a developer and there's pretty much no demand. So no there won't be a sense rom.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes it's totally possible. G1, G2, and Nexus one all had Sense roms despite being shipped with Vanilla Android. Sadly no devs here appear interested in porting Sense but, hopefully they'll port Sense 5.0. My only concern is that all the devices I mentioned I had were HTC and well they shared drivers with sister devices and this could mean a port will be challenging...

It may be so but if a developer won't get as much audience compared AOSP then there's not much point in continuing and refining the ROM (squashing bugs etc). I wouldn't mind using a Sense port, and there is a good chance someone will take on the challenge, but it will likely get close to using as a daily driver.

What's vanilla sense? Anyway, think HTC did a nice job on Sense 5. Beautiful design, great ergonomics. Can't say that it is better or worse than vanilla Android.

That seems unlikely since the choice of vanilla android devices from big brands is quite limited.
Yeah but Boomsound, 2 amplifiers, Infrared, BeatsAudIo, Imagesense chip, Zoe, MHL...

Well maybe edit your first post and start a real poll since you called your thread poll in the title?
See So are we going to see issues here between cdma and gsm support like a few other devices out there? Example : I had the sprint HTC one and it got much less development because of partition differences from the gsm variants.
Since all moto x variants use the same base I'm assuming we won't need to worry about those kinda problems?
I'm curious because I'm hoping this device will have much more aggressive development and an active community. Since the phone is near AOSP I'm also wondering if we will have kernel developers like Franco and others.

I doubt we are going to see a very large Dev Community. I hope I am wrong. But since I haven't seen much interest by now - well - it just seems unlikely. Developers like to get new phones when they are brand new. And it doesn't seem to be happening. But I could be wrong. It would certainly not be the first time.

Or all the Devs were waiting on the dev edition...
Edit* I was thinking about this more. In many respects, the developers invest time, energy and heart, into "fixing" the devices... making them better via firmware and kernel tweaks. I have yet to aquire my moto x... hoping it will be at my door Monday, but from what I have gathered, this device is one of the best out of the box experiences of any other available phone... developers may recognize that their skills may be better appreciated and put to use on devices that would see more benefit. Not to say the moto x doesn't deserve development, but rather, that it may not need it as much as an s4, htc one or g2.
Now, the moto x experience can still be enhanced by development support, but, again without having the device yet myself, it appears as though many are getting, out of box, the experience that so many developers are striving to make possible on many of the other phones currently available.
Personally, I can't wait to have a phone, near or at stock, that is almost exactly what I have been wanting... A harmonization of hardware and software that doesn't sacrifice the efficiency of stock Android and doesn't skimp on usable quality features.

I, too, hope that we see decent developer support for the Moto X. I mean, the T-Mobile/Sprint versions have unlockable bootloaders, Moto just released dev editions which support cdma and gsm networks, the phone is available on all four major US carriers, so you'd figure we'd have healthy developer activity. Here's hoping that its just a matter of time.

Considering how close this is to AOSP, I'm sure a few devs might consider using the Moto X source as their base.
