Not sure if this question has been answered yet or if there's already something in the works.
Has anyone heard or know of a Sense ROM thats being ported to the N4?
I do prefer AOSP over Sense any day but I love variety and switch it up up every now and then. Not to mention that I would love to see how the N4 handles it with its 4 cores and all..
Feel Free to post any Links, Rumors, Opinions, and/or leads on other similar topics.
With release of HTC M7 around the corner hopefully that will strike a match on Sense for N4!!
Thanks for your interst.
It would take an enormous amount of effort from a developer and there's pretty much no demand. So no there won't be a sense rom.

Yes it's totally possible. G1, G2, and Nexus one all had Sense roms despite being shipped with Vanilla Android. Sadly no devs here appear interested in porting Sense but, hopefully they'll port Sense 5.0. My only concern is that all the devices I mentioned I had were HTC and well they shared drivers with sister devices and this could mean a port will be challenging...

I believe you are incorrect. There is a demand for the sense rom. ATM their is not a version we can port effectively until sense 5 drops.

Lucky for you, no one is forcing you to. I've seen a lot of useless, provocative comments, but yours was special.
Don't get your hopes up. The Galaxy Nexus got a Sense 4 ROM but it was pre alpha and the project stopped fairly quickly as there wasn't much demand. (I mean, this is a Nexus, amirite???? AOSP is what most people want)

What ppl don't understand is that it's nice having options. Sure a majority of ppl prefer AOSP over Sense, but if one gets bored they have something new to try out & tweak. Whether it's Sense, TouchWiz, or MotoBlur.

The Nexus one had the same hardware as the HTC desire, barring different partitions and trackball. It was easy to port sense for that thing. Will be a lot harder on this phone.

It may be so but if a developer won't get as much audience compared AOSP then there's not much point in continuing and refining the ROM (squashing bugs etc). I wouldn't mind using a Sense port, and there is a good chance someone will take on the challenge, but it will likely get close to using as a daily driver.

as far as i know. they didnt even port the old htc sense. you want them to port the new one ?
yeah i dont think so. they will port it to desire hd or hd2 or whatever htc device. but i highly doubt you will see it on galaxy S or Nexus S since they are made by samsung.
i could be wrong. but i dont see it happening. at least not any time soon.
besides. isnt getting htc sense or any launcher defeats the purpose of owning a nexus S ? people bought it for pure google expieriance. if you didnt buy your nexus S for that reason then you made the wrong choice of a phone

Actually sense is already ported to the NS. Where have you been? Isn't the NS a dev phone? Isn't Android open source? What's wrong with variety? You act like if SENSE, TOUCHWIZ or Blur roms are ported you wouldn't try it. If you don't like SENSE then you shouldn't of opened my post. Its not like the title didn't speak for itself. Thanks.

I agree with the pure google experience part but honestly, if somebody puts their efforts into porting sense and creating another rom for the development section.
I don't see the harm of having another rom. Ns dev needs more roms. If you don't like it, don't use it. Android is filled with open customization.

Thank you for this statement. We need more variety! What's wrong with choices? People change their minds all the time. We all know we would at least try a sense, touchwiz, etc port if it became available. That doesn't mean we would use it as a daily driver, but its nice to know if you want a different rom one week or the next you can switch.

I haven't seen anything guaranteed, and I don't expect to either ( these are community built ROMs and the last thing I would expect is guarentee) however this is a nexus device and will also have a huge user base with a greater than normal percentage of people willing to try custom ROMs , so I think on a practical note this device will get those builds as well as somany different flavors of android you won't be able to keep track of them all

Before I say anything, Devs please do not see this as a request or as demanding in ANY way. You all do fantastic work and really make this device shine. Anyways... I was wondering if anyone else wishes there was a Sense based port. With the DNA being so close relativity in specs, I am sort of surprised there has not been any talk of a port. This is simply to see who else would like to see a port and if there is any interest in one. I am absolutley not a developer and could not create a ROM to save my life, I'm just a lowly power user lol.
I would much rather have Sense 5(when it comes out) since it's newer and looks cleaner.

I would also like to see a sense rom, it would be cool to be able to have one phone that could run any ui. We already have Motorola blur, why not HTC sense, and touchwiz. If you don't like it you don't have to flash it. I love the nexus line of hardware and aosp, but for flashaholics like me, the more ROMs available the better off I am. I wish I could build ROMs but I don't even know where to start. I would definitely donate to any dev that could build a stable sense ROM.

I don't have the time to learn how to build ROMs. My wife stays on my case as it is, and all I do is flash a ROM and set it up the way I want it. I go to work to make money so I can pay someone to do all the things that I don't want to do and the things I don't know how to do. I have one set of skills and you probably have a different set of skills in your line of work. I don't know anybody who knows how to do everything. This is why I said that I would donate to a dev who comes up with a sense ROM.

I came from the HTC G2, the stock android version of the Desire Z (codename: Vision). Basically, in my opinion at least, any Sense ROM that was not a kang of a ROM shipped by HTC for the Vision has a bunch of bugs and oddities and things that just don't work nicely. And the Vision has one the best developers community that I have seen around. You still get CM 10.1 nightlies uover there even as the last update from HTC was GB back in 2010.
So... while I support having choices, thus would welcome any Sense ROM for the N4, I actually don't think it's a good idea to try.

Hey all,
I was just wondering: how would Gingerbread be on a Nexus 4? Comparing GB and JB on my old phone I think battery life would certainly gain a boost, just like how fluent everything is. Then again I like the JB UI way better, JB has more functions and more apps will be incompatible using GB.

That is impossible unless you're willing to build it and or make sure all drivers work as well and or reverse engineer the drivers to work on GB.
Plus why would you want GB? because of battery? Hell no, JB is much efficient and Android has matured enough.
Why will it never be done? Two words. "Project Butter"

Well, gingerbread isn't ideal to be honest.
However, a port of ICS or JB (4.1) can most likely boost the performance and battery life.
On the nexus 7, 4.1 ran better than 4.2 did. Performance and battery wise.

there's nothing wrong with the thought, I wondered too but you would have to reverse everything for it and its not worth it, but battery life is better on JB due to optimization, GB was single core days, also many apps may not be supported,
Nothing confirmed yet, but the future holds a very bright and good ending. Besides, i don't see any reasons why HTC wouldn't do this...considering they would only release 50k units of the HTC ONE Nexus.
This is definitely a win-win for both consumers and HTC.

It's not entirely a win-win. I read that in order for HTC to release such an update (providing AOSP to all normal HTC One owners), they have to go trough every carrier and other legal stuff. I don't remember where I read it and I don't remember exactly what the article said, but the conclusion I remember: it would cost HTC time & money (and stress, probably) to release an AOSP rom for current HTC One owners.
I hope they do it though. Would be awesome!
edit: Ah, I think I just remembered something. They have to go through every carrier because otherwise the AOSP Rom (update) would not be able to legally use the mobile networks of the carriers or something...
hopefully they'd be able to release an aosp rom for carrier unlocked phones without any legal ramifications.
do you think this will pave the way for future android phones to be released with stock android and the specific manufacturer apps (zoe, sense, touchwiz, etc) to be added as separate apps? this would surely cure the 'fragmentation' of android that iPhone users are always complaining about.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will not be an ota. It will prolly be an ruu, available for developer edition and maybe unlocked international versions. No carrier approval needed
When we have s-off anyone(gsm, anyway) should be able to flash it.
It's kind of neat, but not that big of a deal. You can always run cm if you want AOSP.
