Not sure if this is the right place, but one question. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will the Nexus 7 be receiving official MIUI or CM support anytime soon?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda app-developers app

I haven't seen anything guaranteed, and I don't expect to either ( these are community built ROMs and the last thing I would expect is guarentee) however this is a nexus device and will also have a huge user base with a greater than normal percentage of people willing to try custom ROMs , so I think on a practical note this device will get those builds as well as somany different flavors of android you won't be able to keep track of them all

Haha I'm only worried about getting at least a nightly for CM10 until MIUI pops up.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda app-developers app

guys dont waste any time asking eh?
you realize that people are JUST NOW getting these in their hands? give it a little while....hell, CM10 is alpha on other devices that have BEEN OUT for a while...
patience appears to be something everyone has lost these days.....

I'm just a little curious as to whether or not anyone has any info. That's all, haha.

trust me....the N7 isnt going to slip by without some serious work done to it.....
did you ever see the amount of work that went into the TOUCHPAD? i can guarantee that this tablet will get CM10, AOKP, and probably MIUI....just give it some time. until then, enjoy Jelly Bean as it is....its not bad now....

Alright, I believe you. I don't even have mine in my hands yet

I don't see why not as this is a NEXUS device.

Will there eventually be any roms that get rid of the webtop stuff all together? I have played around with it a bit and ultimately found it to be worthless and haven't used it since.
I want vanilla android! It sucks that is so much to ask for in this market. (I had Nexus S but cannot live with t-mo.
I'm sure there are devs working on porting ROMs such as CM7 or AOSP. Patience is key right now. I know some CM devs are receiving some Atrixes.
Give it a few weeks. ROMs don't appear over night.
Hopefully man I just want pure 100% android

Me too. I could care less about CyanogenMod. I want PURE ANDROID!!
I just want my Tegra 2 dual core phone to HANDLE LIVE WALLPAPERS.
I also want the WIFI to work (stopped detecting WiFi altogether)
Will be posible to port any variant of Honeycomb? Honey can handle the DualCore module, is AOSP and has HighRes. I think it will be better than any 2.x.x. Motorola Xoom has a very similar hardware so I don't think that it's imposble, but all you are the genius here

Multicore works perfectly fine in the current version of Android on the Atrix, as well as Gingerbread. Honeycomb will not be backported. Look forward to Ice Cream Sandwich instead, which is the "new hotness" I guess you could say.
If you want better multicore support, look to the app developers to add it into their apps. Android can run multicore but without support in the app, as I understand it, it won't use both cores. I am sure someone else with more knowledge about the underlying structure of Android could shed better light on the subject.
Honestly, where does this misinformation stem from?

Is a "Sense" ROM for Nexus 4 likely??

Not sure if this question has been answered yet or if there's already something in the works.
Has anyone heard or know of a Sense ROM thats being ported to the N4?
I do prefer AOSP over Sense any day but I love variety and switch it up up every now and then. Not to mention that I would love to see how the N4 handles it with its 4 cores and all..
Feel Free to post any Links, Rumors, Opinions, and/or leads on other similar topics.
With release of HTC M7 around the corner hopefully that will strike a match on Sense for N4!!
Thanks for your interst.
It would take an enormous amount of effort from a developer and there's pretty much no demand. So no there won't be a sense rom.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes it's totally possible. G1, G2, and Nexus one all had Sense roms despite being shipped with Vanilla Android. Sadly no devs here appear interested in porting Sense but, hopefully they'll port Sense 5.0. My only concern is that all the devices I mentioned I had were HTC and well they shared drivers with sister devices and this could mean a port will be challenging...

I believe you are incorrect. There is a demand for the sense rom. ATM their is not a version we can port effectively until sense 5 drops.

Don't get your hopes up. The Galaxy Nexus got a Sense 4 ROM but it was pre alpha and the project stopped fairly quickly as there wasn't much demand. (I mean, this is a Nexus, amirite???? AOSP is what most people want)

What ppl don't understand is that it's nice having options. Sure a majority of ppl prefer AOSP over Sense, but if one gets bored they have something new to try out & tweak. Whether it's Sense, TouchWiz, or MotoBlur.

The Nexus one had the same hardware as the HTC desire, barring different partitions and trackball. It was easy to port sense for that thing. Will be a lot harder on this phone.

It may be so but if a developer won't get as much audience compared AOSP then there's not much point in continuing and refining the ROM (squashing bugs etc). I wouldn't mind using a Sense port, and there is a good chance someone will take on the challenge, but it will likely get close to using as a daily driver.

Gingerbread on the Nex4

Hey all,
I was just wondering: how would Gingerbread be on a Nexus 4? Comparing GB and JB on my old phone I think battery life would certainly gain a boost, just like how fluent everything is. Then again I like the JB UI way better, JB has more functions and more apps will be incompatible using GB.
What is your view?

Don't even think it's possible to port, and if you did miracle it onto your phone it would run like ass (necessitating yet another miracle).

That is impossible unless you're willing to build it and or make sure all drivers work as well and or reverse engineer the drivers to work on GB.
Plus why would you want GB? because of battery? Hell no, JB is much efficient and Android has matured enough.
Why will it never be done? Two words. "Project Butter"

I think you ate a bit too many "special" gingerbread cookies...
Well, gingerbread isn't ideal to be honest.
However, a port of ICS or JB (4.1) can most likely boost the performance and battery life.
On the nexus 7, 4.1 ran better than 4.2 did. Performance and battery wise.

Look.
1rst, paranodroid.
2cnd: faux123 kernel
3r: go to his post and use "battery saver config"
4: enjoy.
there's nothing wrong with the thought, I wondered too but you would have to reverse everything for it and its not worth it, but battery life is better on JB due to optimization, GB was single core days, also many apps may not be supported,

The Merge 4.0 is a sense 3 and aosp hybrid. It has all the normal sense things plus aosp dialer, contacts, gallery, and email. This was a team nocturnal project but they have moved on and TNN has taken over the project. I have plans on a couple more sense 3 roms but they are still in the future.

The masses seem to want ICS and JB more than Sense, since this did come with Sense to begin with and never upgraded past 4.37(1.0).I myself am a Sense fan, since all the rest of the phones seems to upgrade to at least ICS,except ours, but that being said there is a new OS coming out by Nov of this year, which is Key Lime Pie,but who knows how long this will take to get a source code for that, then you have Firefox OS,which i know a guy thats working on getting us a code for our phone,so we can start on one for the OG,but i have a Sense 2.1 and 3.0 RUU,ill see what i can do with it and see if Aamikam has a few extra minutes to help me with combining them and his rom control.

Innovation

Hi guys. I don't post here much but have been on XDA for a few years with different devices. Now on the gs2 on cm10.1 with dori 9.3. My phone is faster and has more features than my ladies gs3. Having a nose around the forum there are lots of new ROMs popping up. This is no bad thing but they all seem very similar, borrowing feature sets and bases from more established ROMs. Most of the cm based releases perform the same.
I'm not complaining (far from it) I just think we need some sort of injection of innovation to make things exciting again. Ubuntu promises a bit more fun but is a while off being a daily driver.
Do you think android is getting stale as an OS or do we have lots to look forward to?
