[Opinion/Impromptu Poll] Cyanogenmod - One (M7) General

Ok so if I'm not mistaken, one of the reasons we bought the One was so we don't have to use vanilla Android .Yes, no?
Let's discuss.

What's vanilla sense? Anyway, think HTC did a nice job on Sense 5. Beautiful design, great ergonomics. Can't say that it is better or worse than vanilla Android.

hmm. Steve Kodik (cyanogen) said he bought the AT&T version yesterday. So, I think there will be a cyanogen ROM for our beautiful beast soon.

That seems unlikely since the choice of vanilla android devices from big brands is quite limited.

Yeah but Boomsound, 2 amplifiers, Infrared, BeatsAudIo, Imagesense chip, Zoe, MHL...
I love AOSP too, but I don't like to lose features...And HTC has so many non AOSP features...
Is HTC gonna update One to newer Androids. What do you think?

KLP for sure; after that... Hard to say, but I guess we can all waste lots of time speculating.

I wont go to Vanilla, cuz Sense 5 is smooth and needs only few mods. I dont want to loose those Sense 5 features, so i vote no

Do you think custom ROMs will allow us to have HTC's Sense UI 3.0 on this phone?

I'd love to have it, with the recent reports showing the horsepower that it have coupled with Sense 3.0 that would be the perfect phone to have
If people want the HTC Sense experience then they should look at a HTC Phone. Although a Port is possible, its very time consuming and by the time someone actually port's it over with all the drivers working, your device will be close to the yearly refresh and you will want the next best thing. This will leave the developer in a limbo where his efforts didnt truly pay off.

It's not possible, Galaxy S is half baked, Nexus S also try, half baked. Samsung uses totally different structure on android Nexus S can't even port TouchWiz and its the same manufacturer. I would love to get S II spec wise it blows the Sensation out.

Id say its all about taste. Personally I think motorola's UI is the worst, followed closely by the apple wannabe touchwiz. Funny, I actually hated sense as well at first, but now that im using it for a while, I LOVE IT.
Also, its because htc has added soooo much functionality, like finding/wiping/ringing from anywhere(laptop) incase its lost, or stolen, etc. Plus auto-backup of messages, apprx 100 very useful widgets, plus may apps wich save you a lot of time if you had to download one by one. Basically, its a complete package that looks good and offers functionality that no other manufacturer can even come close to, especially being built in from start. no headaches. I myself wish it could be ported but I doubt, especially with how "involved" its gotten lately

I had a Galaxy S, then Atrix and now Inspire. Next I'm buying Galaxy S II because the bootlogger is unlocked and I want the light weight, dual core processor power and video enhancements.
The Inspire is amazing. I like it far better than the Atrix because I can put custom roms on it. I was able to root the Atrix and do a few modifications but it was very limited. I strongly recommend the Inspire.
The Sensation is locked down as is the Atrix. If you want a good out of the box phone Atrix is as good as you get until the Galaxy S II arrives. Sensation will be great but probably about the same as the Galaxy S II.
It is hard to recommend a phone without knowing what you do with your phone. For me the unlocked boot logger is the difference between buying and not buying.
Personally I prefer Sense.I think that Samsung have basically copied the iPhone in design and UI. If someone could remove the native Samsung bloat and add sense, all would be good in the world(for me at least)

Sent from my RafDroidHD using Tapatalk
I think we can. If enough people that have bought a SGS2 ask for sense then I am sure someone(developer) will be willing to design it for SGS2. From what I have seen of custom roms so far, I think that there are some more than capable developers out there that could do it. If I could write code I definitely would(perhaps I should start learning. The only question is can an old dog(me) learn new tricks?????)

Porting Sense to the Atrix 4G [Developers needed!]

Hello, XDA!
I am organizing a team of developers to attempt to port HTC Sense to the Atrix 4G. Theoretically, this should be possible, correct? I've seen reports of it being successfully ported to Samsung phones. I love the Sense UI, and would love to see this happen, if it is at all possible! This will be my first attempt at an Android development project, so really any help would be greatly appreciated!

My thinking exactly. There's also a project for porting Sense to the Motorola Triumph, and the Epic 4G. So, i thought, "Why the hell not?"
A) Why wouldn't you get an HTC phone if you like the Sense UI?
&
B) Why would you want to take the bloatware of MotoBlurr off a phone and load it with another manufacturer's bloatware, HTC Sense?
Interesting idea, none the less though. I guess just to prove you can

Sense is a battery hog. I really like sense, but I usually load an AOSP rom onto my HTC phones.
You can get de-bloated Sense roms.

This could be interesting. I'd definitely try a sense port if one were available. Chances are I'd stick with AOSP, but why rule something out without trying it?
Anything dev related for the Atrix is welcome as far as I'm concerned. Good luck.

[Q] Who else would love a Sense port ROM?

Before I say anything, Devs please do not see this as a request or as demanding in ANY way. You all do fantastic work and really make this device shine. Anyways... I was wondering if anyone else wishes there was a Sense based port. With the DNA being so close relativity in specs, I am sort of surprised there has not been any talk of a port. This is simply to see who else would like to see a port and if there is any interest in one. I am absolutley not a developer and could not create a ROM to save my life, I'm just a lowly power user lol.
I would much rather have Sense 5(when it comes out) since it's newer and looks cleaner.
No way. Honestly, no offense but if you like Sense then you should have gotten an HTC device.

I would also like to see a sense rom, it would be cool to be able to have one phone that could run any ui. We already have Motorola blur, why not HTC sense, and touchwiz. If you don't like it you don't have to flash it. I love the nexus line of hardware and aosp, but for flashaholics like me, the more ROMs available the better off I am. I wish I could build ROMs but I don't even know where to start. I would definitely donate to any dev that could build a stable sense ROM.

I don't have the time to learn how to build ROMs. My wife stays on my case as it is, and all I do is flash a ROM and set it up the way I want it. I go to work to make money so I can pay someone to do all the things that I don't want to do and the things I don't know how to do. I have one set of skills and you probably have a different set of skills in your line of work. I don't know anybody who knows how to do everything. This is why I said that I would donate to a dev who comes up with a sense ROM.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I came from the HTC G2, the stock android version of the Desire Z (codename: Vision). Basically, in my opinion at least, any Sense ROM that was not a kang of a ROM shipped by HTC for the Vision has a bunch of bugs and oddities and things that just don't work nicely. And the Vision has one the best developers community that I have seen around. You still get CM 10.1 nightlies uover there even as the last update from HTC was GB back in 2010.
So... while I support having choices, thus would welcome any Sense ROM for the N4, I actually don't think it's a good idea to try.

I would like to try Sense 5. I wouldn't use it as my daily driver. But I'm definitely not opposed to having more options.

HTC might Release AOSP Rom for current HTC One users

Nothing confirmed yet, but the future holds a very bright and good ending. Besides, i don't see any reasons why HTC wouldn't do this...considering they would only release 50k units of the HTC ONE Nexus.
This is definitely a win-win for both consumers and HTC.

It's not entirely a win-win. I read that in order for HTC to release such an update (providing AOSP to all normal HTC One owners), they have to go trough every carrier and other legal stuff. I don't remember where I read it and I don't remember exactly what the article said, but the conclusion I remember: it would cost HTC time & money (and stress, probably) to release an AOSP rom for current HTC One owners.
I hope they do it though. Would be awesome!
edit: Ah, I think I just remembered something. They have to go through every carrier because otherwise the AOSP Rom (update) would not be able to legally use the mobile networks of the carriers or something...
hopefully they'd be able to release an aosp rom for carrier unlocked phones without any legal ramifications.
do you think this will pave the way for future android phones to be released with stock android and the specific manufacturer apps (zoe, sense, touchwiz, etc) to be added as separate apps? this would surely cure the 'fragmentation' of android that iPhone users are always complaining about.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will not be an ota. It will prolly be an ruu, available for developer edition and maybe unlocked international versions. No carrier approval needed
When we have s-off anyone(gsm, anyway) should be able to flash it.
It's kind of neat, but not that big of a deal. You can always run cm if you want AOSP.
