[Q] Nexus 4 heat problem

I am getting bothered by the heat of my nexus 4 especially at the camera side..., when I play psx emulator it really gets hot and it gets hotter when it is charging... even if i am only watching or streaming the internet it gets noticeably hot, so i would like to know if this is ok or not.
what are apps that could monitor the temperature?
what is the normal temperature when gaming and idle?
I would like to know about this things so that if my unit is a lemon, i could return it to lg for the warranty.

you have a quad core device, its normal. when you stress the cpu, gaming, streaming, itll heat up. when you charge, your battery will heat up. the back o the phone is glass, so itll feel like it gets hot fast. when the device hits a certain cpu temperature, heat throttling kicks in. this will lower your cpu speed and cool down your device. when it goes over the cpu safety temperature(100C i believe), the cpu will shut down and the phone will power off. there are several apps that show the cpu and battery temperature. remember, battery temperature and cpu temperature are two completely different temperature readings.

System tuner gives you cpu temp. But you should get an app that tells you battery temp as well...

simms22 is right you can under clock it safely kernel tuner is free on play

Intel CPUs (i5, i7, etc.) can survive going over 100 degree Celsius, but the commonly quoted safe temperature limit for long term operation is 70 degree Celsius. I would assume that the same holds true for other silicon chips, and find it difficult to believe that the shut off temperature for the Nexus 4 is 100 degree Celsius - you will be getting serious burns on your fingers by then.

That is a little worrying. Are you using a case? Also what is the room temperature where you were using the phone?

Hi, i want to buy nexus 4, but i'm worried about temperature. I'll install custom kernel. Could you tell me what are the temperatures when gaming on - for example- franco kernel? How long can i play before it reaches 60 celsius? Is it overheating with franco kernel or it has stable 40-50 celsius maximum when gaming?

The N4 has thermal safeguards protecting it from damage. Realy intensive gaming shouldn`t be a problem for a certain time, if you play too long thermal throtling kicks in and you may xperience some frame drops wich is normal. The heat will build up with any kernel and any phone when you play intensive games for a longer time as the cpu is not fan cooled as in a pc.

I know. But i'm asking how long can i play ;D Because it will be disappointing when this phone will get for example 60 celsius in 1 hour when playing angry birds

This heat building will happen with any smartphone. You may better buy a Play station or Xbox for gaming and a feature phone for calls and texts (just kidding off course )

60C is normal. you will feel uncomfortable with a normal device?

I mean 60c on battery not processor.

dont keep it plugged in while playing intensive games and the battery will never reach 60C. heck, gaming while plugged in, ive never reached 60C.

But you've never reached 60c on nexus 4? Just asking because i've seen stability test on youtube and i was scared. 13 min of stability test and phone had 60c and shutdown.

battery temp no, cpu temp every single day when i push my device hard. when benchmarking a battery, a stress test, its supposed to get hot, thats the whole point. that isnt a real life situation.

Yes, my battery temperature is almost always at 30C or below. I played GTA Vice City once for about an hour, and the battery temperature went to as high as 40C. My phone was unplugged the whole time of course.
As for CPU temperature... It probably got to about 50C-60C when the battery was at 40C. Not sure though. Still not too hot to the touch, and not hot enough to trigger crazy thermal throttling.

[Q] G2 Operating Temperature

Hello guys, well i've read every single post about the phone's working temperature on the forum but i just can't figure if my phone is working fine or not, because mostly everyone on the post refer to the temperature as "warm" "bit hot" etc, which is very subjective. I'm a bit worried because my phone (D806, running stock ROM) gets quite warm after like 20 mins of surfing the web through wifi, or after chatting a bit on whatsapp. By "a bit warm" i mean between 32-34 deg centigrade, refering to battery temperature of course. Now, after reading everything i can't figure out if this is a normal temp for this phone or not. I can also say that the min temperature i could measure (with just cell radio on, in idle state) was 25 degrees. The max temperature i could reach (running antutu for like 4 times one after another) was 45 degrees. Now, i'm confused because someone in a post said the max temperature he got was 34 degress, and his usual temp was 24 degrees. I couldn't even get 24 with the phone completely idle. So, i'd like to know your experience, since i can still exchange my phone for a new one if it's defective. Thanks in advance.

There is nothing wrong with your battery temp. You can also check you CPU temp (nope, maybe you will have scared )... Fortunately you didn't saw your CPU temp during your 4 Antutu runs...
The temperature (CPU or battery) depends of your room temperature and your current use. You said yourself with 4 Antutu runs the temperature increase, nothing abnormal even for the battery..., same thing after browsing for 20 minutes even in wifi.
A guy had 24°C battery temp in idle and 34°C max, well, what was the room temperature? Nothing running in background? What he was doing?
I mean even in idle, screen off, your phone can do a lot of things especially if you have a rogue app keeping the CPU busy so there could be a little more heat.
In any case there is a thermal protection (thermal throttling) to prevent damages in case of "overheating" for both CPU and battery the CPU freq decrease according to the temp. Even the screen brightness can be automatically lowered. In last case the phone shutdown if a high temperature is reached (about 100 °C for the CPU). The max battery temp should be about 50°C, I don't remember exactly.
Don't worry, as you reported there is nothing wrong with your tempetatures... Same thing if you take a look at your CPU temp, can be arround 70°C in heavy use, even a bit more in really heavy use.
We have a quadcore device running at 2.26 Ghz, all is enclosed without thermal cooling... it's normal to have "heat" with all the components.
Use your phone and profit, no need to monitoring each minutes your temperatures. You confused yourself by only reading the °C, not how or why it is compared to the other posts you read. Each user have different room temperature, use, settings, etc... you can't have the same temperature as xx user. An average yes, I agree and here you are in the good average...

Viking said it all. Nothing abnormal there, but anything over 30 degrees is elevated temperature and should be avoided

Guys,thanks for your responses. I still don't get something tho because one of you said that my temp is normal (about 32 deg. while browsing), but then you say that anything over 30 deg should be avoided, then i don't quite understand. My phone gets between 30 and 35 deg while regular browsing, it's mostly a bit over 30 all the time i'm actually using it, SO, that's wrong or not? That's the part i don't quite understand.

Over 30°C for the battery temp is not dangerous at all, about 45°C also. Imagine people living in a really warm country when they use their phones...
Don't worry, already said, there is absolutely nothing abnormal with your temperatures, nothing... all is fine regarding your use...

What is the normal CPU temperature ?

With normal tasks such as browser, phone and messaging, the CPU temp of my phone is around 38-40. With tasks as YouTube and graphics intense games it's between 50-55. At this point, the phone feels really hot.
Are these expected temp level or is there some problem with my phone?

With asphalt, the temp averaged around 65C. While downloading the additional content it reached 75C.

I rarely see mine above 45. I've only seen 50 a few times. Throttling kicks in bad above 50

How can i check the temp of the CPU? Most of the apps don't even show temperature on 6P and CPU Z gives me like 15 different readings ;/

For this I had used CPU Temp. But yeah after the update, it says that it cannot determine the temperature.
In CPU Z, I was unable to understand the readings. One of the app, said that there is no temperature sensor to determine the reading of the phone. So not sure if we can get the accurate temperature.
But the phone is for sure getting too hot. I feel Nexus 6p has heating issue, or atleast mine does.

45-60 shouldn't damage your CPU, but 75+ can be harming for phone's integrated circuit

Remember that it will go up to 70°C maybe higher and the aluminium case spreads the heat making the whole device hot (LG G3 was very hot only in specific area, because it was plastic).

Average temperature and battery life.

What is the average temperature of CPU and Battery on your Z3+ ?
Mine is about 45-50 CPU and 42 Battery.
Could sometimes get up to 70 CPU and 47 Battery "Too hot for a short time at random times".
Battery life is about 4:30 SOT.
Is that normal for this device? What apps do you use to regulate the temp and increase the battery life?

Same with me on stock or custom 7.1.1

it varies from 40 to 50 on idle.
However, it's summer here and temperature is kind of hot "About 42c"
I don't know if that's related.

yes, room temperature affects temperature of the phone on idle

I live in Turkey/Konya, idle temperature is low. But when I started to use the phone, it gets hot after 4-5 minutes later. Even though I am a light user, this heat and lag poblem made me hate Sony. I will never buy a Sony phone again. Some say new XZ Premium and XZ1 don't get hot so much but I can't trust them. If you have a Qualcomm Processor phone, heating becomes a scourge for you. I used and using Samsung Exynos phones but they never had so much problem about heating so much.
