How do I boot into Safe Mode

Completely locked out. How do I boot to safe mode or last known good configuration ?
There's a Blue-Box that appears after depressing F10 which offers a HDD:
Toshiba Mk4009GAL. At the bottom of this box offers up and down arrows and 'ENTER to select boot device' then ESC to boot using defaults. Either of
these Options returns me back to the 'Missing/Corrupt File Display. That error is there even with regular start up .. I can't remember how you get to Safe Mode ..
Thanks

Hello Diane,
Entering Safe Mode;
1) Restart HTC Shift
2) HTC logo and F10:Boot menu will appear.
3) Press Fn+F8 key quickly two or three times when HTC logo disappear.
4) Select Safe Mode in Advanced Boot Options.
If you cannot start Safe Mode, would you try Fn+F3 for recovery ?
Be carefully, all data in hdd will be lost.

[Q] factory reset no "android recovery"

When attempting to factory reset, the instructions say that the messeage "android recovery" will appear in the top left if booted when power + volume down. This only sends me to the fastboot message, and it will not change to "android recovery". Anyone else have this problem
I got in by pressing up while it's powering up
Edit: correction ... that gets u into rsd2 mode
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
As far as I remember, it's just Vol(-) while on the "Dual Core" screen while powering up to scroll through boot options. Once you find the one you want, recovery, Vol(+) will bring you into it.

i bougth a used nook and i cant sign in with my barnes and noble account cuz the person i bougth the nook from didnt unregister the nook can i bypass that like cm7 does i really wanna test out the nc original os
thanx in advance
If you want to use the stock ROM you have to first get it deregistered and then register. If you run VCM7 it does not matter.....
So theres no way to unregistered it?
If you want to leave it rooted and just de-register the device:
-Go to Settings
-Select "Device Info" under the top "Device Settings" section
-Select "Erase & Deregister Device"
-Select the "Erase & Deregister Device" button
-You will be prompted with the following confirmation dialog
-Select the "Reset Nook" button
-A Deregistration message will appear and Nook Color will reboot.
-Upon reset a Clearing data message will appear
-Nook Color will reboot again once complete.
If you want to un-rooted the Nook Color and de-register:
Step 1 (factory image restore)
-Power off the nook.
-Tap the power button.
-3 to 5 seonds after "Welcome to the future of reading" appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process. (this will turn the Nook COlor back off)
* If the boot animation does not appear, add 1 to your interrupted boot count.
* If the boot animation DOES appear, your interrupted boot count is reset to zero. Start over.
-Repeat the interrupt sequnece until your failed boot count reaches 8. At this point, the nook will re-flash its /system partition. You will see the process on the right.
Step 2 (de-registration)
option1
-With the Nook color powered off hold down the n button (home) and Power Button until the Nook Color powers on.
-You will be prompted with a Factory Reset dialog.
Press POWER key to Exit
Press HOME key to continue
-Press n button (home).
-You will be prompted to confirm.
Press POWER key to Exit
Press HOME key to continue
-Press n button (home).
-A Clearing Data dialog will show. Nook Color will reboot automatically once complete.
option2
-Go to Settings
-Select "Device Info" under the top "Device Settings" section
-Select "Erase & Deregister Device"
-Select the "Erase & Deregister Device" button
-You will be prompted with the following confirmation dialog
-Select the "Reset Nook" button

-Upon reset a Clearing data message will appear
-Nook Color will reboot again once complete.

[Q] running cm9 on nook color. 2 major problems

I have 2 major problems running cm9 on the nook color.
I've looked them up and can't find Anything thought the search bar or google. If there is a post about them please link me to it
The first is . The market Does not connect NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I can connect to the Internet still thought the browser.
The second. There is no lock screen at all. When I turn the nook on it goes straight to home screen. And when I toggle it in and out of sleep it goes straight to home screen. I even tried putting a pass code to no Avail
I've tried reflashing multiple times.
Heres the tutorial I followed (srry no link)
To maximize battery performance, make sure your battery is charged to 100% before flashing. I prefer to let it charge during the flashing process.
Plug your bootable sdcard into your computer and copy the files you downloaded above (rom, gApps) to it. When it finishes copying, safely unmount it from your computer by clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon by the clock in the lower right corner of your screen. This prevents causing file system problems and should always be done when removing a usb drive.
Remove the sdcard, plug it into your powered-down NC, press the power button and it should boot into Recovery
Make sure CWM Recovery says it's version 3.2.0.1. If it's any number less than that, you need to update your card, otherwise it'll fail when formatting data, leading to all sorts of nastiness.
(To use recovery, up/down volume buttons are used to navigate up and down, press the power button to go back, and press the "n" button to do the highlighted task. Only briefly press the buttons since it's easy to skip a step by holding down a button too long.)
Press up or down volume button until "mounts and storage" is highlighted, press "n" button.
use up/down to highlight "format /system", press "n"
highlight "yes - format", press "n" (always watch for errors)
when that finishes, highlight "format /cache", press "n"
highlight "yes - format", press "n"
IF FORMATTING DATA (see above description. Most people installing via the sdcard will need to), highlight "format /data", press "n". (You need to format data if coming from the stock B&N rom.)
press power button briefly to return to previous menu
select "install zip from sdcard", press "n"
select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
select your CM rom, press "n"
highlight "Yes - install... (rom filename), press "n"
Make sure your rom completed successfully (about 5 minutes), then flash Google Apps.
select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
select your gApps file, press "n"
highlight "Yes - install... (gapps file name), press "n"
Make sure your gApps completed successfully, then press the power button until "reboot" option is visible. Remove your sdcard, then select "reboot system now", press "n"
Let your nook sit for 5 minutes to settle
If you formatted data, you'll need to do these steps:
Connect to your wi-fi: drag status bar up from bottom (you'll see a wifi icon on it), choose wi-fi and enter settings. O/W Settings > wireless and network > wi-fi settings
Set your clock: Settings > Date & Time > Uncheck “Automatic” and select your time zone
Sign in from Market (Market may not show in app drawer until you are connected to wifi; if you still don’t see it, reflash)
Your purchased and recently installed apps will start to download and install. I find it best to just let it do it's thing for about 10-15 minutes until it completes or errors out (a possibility). When finished, reboot and check Market again.
After installing a new rom, expect it to be sluggish for a day or so.
enjoy
Thanks in advance
Which Rom did you install?

Some roms have tablet-specific sections (tablet tweaks) in the settings where you can disable the lock screen (usually enabled by default).
Ya figured that out in cm7 which installed just fine. But the market won't connect. When I first run cm9

[Request] For variant SM-A500M (A5 2015)

I was hoping to see more development for the Samsung Galaxy A5 2015. I know that there are some posts but in limited variants, specially if I want to have "theme store" or the white notifications panel which we have seen in the S6 or A5 (2016)... and we do have Marshmallow, but I guess that this version is more light, to make us buy the next phone and with these limited aestetics it gets boring or outdated. Anyway, my variant is SM-A500M and I've just recently found a method to root this variant with Marshmallow but honestly there's not much to do with this variant. I just want to request more mods and a way to have a refresh for this phone because it gets boring as hell to swipe the homescreens and it feels with lags, there's no more dynamic.
Thanks.

Before starting, please be aware that rooting will void your warranty and if the steps I have given below are not done properly, you will brick your device. Please don't blame me if you got your device bricked.
1. Firstly, you need a windows pc and then go to this link and download the whole folder with the name "Samsung Galaxy A5 2015 Root Method". Do not miss a file and extract all the files from the zip into the folder with a name "Samsung Galaxy A5 2015 Root Method" . Link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...lP?usp=sharing
2. Then navigate to the folder called "Odin3_v3.09" and run the file with name "Odin3 v3.09.exe". Run it with admin rights.
3. In you phone, navigate to developer options and turn on "USB debugging and (OEM unlock (if it is there))". I am pretty sure that this option will be there. If you don't know how to get developer options, go to setting, about, and tap 3 times on the build number and you will unlock developer options.
4. Now power off your device and reboot into download mode by pressing power button, home button and volume down all together. Press volume up when you see the screen. (the screen is a blue-green colour and it says either press volume up or down, press volume up)
5. Now connect your phone to pc with usb debug enabled on phone.
6. In Odin, If you see device is added, you are good to go. If not reconnect your device.
7. Now in odin, press the button named "AP" and navigate to the "Samsung Galaxy A5 2015 Root Method" and click on the file named "twrp_20191005_a5ultexx (1).tar" and open it.
8. Now in the options section, uncheck "Auto Reboot" and check (if not already) "F. Reset Time". Leave everything else as it is.
9. Press The button "Start"
10. Wait until you see "Pass" in odin.
11. In your phone, you will see that it is "downloading" and there is a white line that is completed. Now to get out of download mode, press power button, home button and volume down all together until you see a black screen.
12. Immediately, you need to press power button, home button and volume up all together until you see the boot screen with yellow text saying "set warranty bit: recovery"
13. Now you will boot into recovery.
14. Now download "Magisk v20.zip" from this link on your pc. Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11O2...ew?usp=sharing
Don't extract it.
15. Now drag or copy and paste "Magisk v20.zip" to the phone's internal storage.
16. In your phone, in twrp recovery. press the install button and navigate to "Magisk v20.zip". Press on it.
17. Now swipe to install and wait a few seconds or minutes.
18. After completion, press the "Wipe Cache/Dalvik" button.
19. Afterwards, press reboot (system)
20. If you see the boot screen with "set warranty bit: kernel", you are good to go and wait till it boots the system.
21. Congratulations, your phone is now rooted!
In step 20, if you see "set warranty bit: recovery" and red text above it, try this: Power off the device in twrp (recovery) in the reboot section and connect to a power supply. If you see 'set warranty bit:kernel' and a charging sign, you are good to go. You just need to hold the power button and wait till it turns off and turns on again. Just wait until it boots the system and you are rooted.
