Great tutorial
dead link
the new link you are providing goes to a dead page... and my atrix wont go into recovery when i hold down buttons either way... what can i do?
Hi, a friend has one of these and I'm trying to help him root/custom rom. I used the Droid X Boot strap from market after the root. I can get to CWR from the bootstarp but how do I get there from power off mode? (for example In HTC Thunderbolt it's power and volume down)
Also, can/should I use rom manager after boot strap?
I'm using Liquid's latest but very buggy, SD card won't get recognized. Any suggestions on the most stable rom (preferably AOSP)
Check my sig for an extensive Droid X Specific How-to.
Getting into CWM from power-off isn't available on 1st init roms...
But some roms have a "fail-safe" that you can turn on booting into CWM after every boot up.
On a couple (MIUI, EncounterICS) roms, a new Boot-menu has been made where you simply press the down-volume button right when this blue light flashes during boot.
(You obviously need to be on one of those roms for it to work)
I'd suggest CM7 or MIUI so far for stability as far as (true) AOSP goes.
EncounterICS is coming along nicely, however...and shows promise in the near future.
Links to a couple of roms that I'd suggest are also in the post linked in my sig.

Thank you. I actually ended up with the Liquid for her. It seems like all the problems was comong from the bad SD card which gave out and she lost everything. I'm trying to see if I can somehow get some of it back but that's another story...
I'm a big fan of CM7 but don't like to install nightlys for others, especially if they live in another state. I don't see a stable CM7 so I will wait. It appears that Liquid is also AOSP and is playing nice MIUI is nice but I'm kind of sick of it. I love vanilla Android. All these theming isn't for me.

awesome, I guess this is what I was looking for: to get to some kind of recovery when stuck. Hope I don't have to visit this post though.
I have 2 major problems running cm9 on the nook color.
I've looked them up and can't find Anything thought the search bar or google. If there is a post about them please link me to it
The first is . The market Does not connect NO MATTER WHAT I DO. I can connect to the Internet still thought the browser.
The second. There is no lock screen at all. When I turn the nook on it goes straight to home screen. And when I toggle it in and out of sleep it goes straight to home screen. I even tried putting a pass code to no Avail
I've tried reflashing multiple times.
Heres the tutorial I followed (srry no link)
To maximize battery performance, make sure your battery is charged to 100% before flashing. I prefer to let it charge during the flashing process.
Plug your bootable sdcard into your computer and copy the files you downloaded above (rom, gApps) to it. When it finishes copying, safely unmount it from your computer by clicking on the "safely remove hardware" icon by the clock in the lower right corner of your screen. This prevents causing file system problems and should always be done when removing a usb drive.
Remove the sdcard, plug it into your powered-down NC, press the power button and it should boot into Recovery
Make sure CWM Recovery says it's version 3.2.0.1. If it's any number less than that, you need to update your card, otherwise it'll fail when formatting data, leading to all sorts of nastiness.
(To use recovery, up/down volume buttons are used to navigate up and down, press the power button to go back, and press the "n" button to do the highlighted task. Only briefly press the buttons since it's easy to skip a step by holding down a button too long.)
Press up or down volume button until "mounts and storage" is highlighted, press "n" button.
use up/down to highlight "format /system", press "n"
highlight "yes - format", press "n" (always watch for errors)
when that finishes, highlight "format /cache", press "n"
highlight "yes - format", press "n"
IF FORMATTING DATA (see above description. Most people installing via the sdcard will need to), highlight "format /data", press "n". (You need to format data if coming from the stock B&N rom.)
press power button briefly to return to previous menu
select "install zip from sdcard", press "n"
select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
select your CM rom, press "n"
highlight "Yes - install... (rom filename), press "n"
Make sure your rom completed successfully (about 5 minutes), then flash Google Apps.
select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
select your gApps file, press "n"
highlight "Yes - install... (gapps file name), press "n"
Make sure your gApps completed successfully, then press the power button until "reboot" option is visible. Remove your sdcard, then select "reboot system now", press "n"
Let your nook sit for 5 minutes to settle
If you formatted data, you'll need to do these steps:
Connect to your wi-fi: drag status bar up from bottom (you'll see a wifi icon on it), choose wi-fi and enter settings. O/W Settings > wireless and network > wi-fi settings
Set your clock: Settings > Date & Time > Uncheck “Automatic” and select your time zone
Sign in from Market (Market may not show in app drawer until you are connected to wifi; if you still don’t see it, reflash)
Your purchased and recently installed apps will start to download and install. I find it best to just let it do it's thing for about 10-15 minutes until it completes or errors out (a possibility). When finished, reboot and check Market again.
After installing a new rom, expect it to be sluggish for a day or so.
enjoy
Thanks in advance
Which Rom did you install?

Some roms have tablet-specific sections (tablet tweaks) in the settings where you can disable the lock screen (usually enabled by default).
Ya figured that out in cm7 which installed just fine. But the market won't connect. When I first run cm9

Try a factory reset..
If your tablet is on, power it off.
Press and hold Power until the device powers on, then immediately press and hold Volume Down (while still pressing Power). You will see the word Start with an arrow drawn around it.
Press Volume Down twice to designate Recovery mode.
Press Power to restart into Recovery mode. You will see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down Power, press Volume Up.
Use the volume keys to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press Power to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press Power to select it.
Note that you will lose all apps, etc.
