Its doesn't state that it can... but as the article says '4.2.2'.
Basically it should turn our s2 into s4...kind of...

Check the JB threads, it's all there.
Why would we wanna have a thread like this if we haven't gotten it yet?

It's doubtful that it's going to be out in 'days', probably weeks, or more likely months, knowing Samsung. If it really was days we would have seen a leak by now.

No one actually expected the S2 to get stock 5.0. It will almost certainly get CM11 (Android 5.0) though.

Samsung already stated in an official post that all his DualCore devices will get Android 4.2.2 as last update.
This means Galaxy S2, Note, all the Galaxy Tab 2 family and variations.

My apologies for sounding lazy (I am not, and quick search didn't yield results for me), but can you refer to that post, please? Not by SamMobile or the likes (there are tons of links to those "insider news"), but directly by Samsung? I am definitely not expecting 5.0, but even for 4.2.2, I have to admit, I am as skeptical as I am hopeful at this time...

True, especially when it comes to ETAs. But I would still have more confidence in a confirmation coming directly from the source. Anyway, IMO, it's all speculations until we actually see the update...

Personally, I couldn't care less about the update timeline for specific regions or carriers, and I see absolutely no reason for waiting... As soon as the first official release drops (for whatever region), it will become available for download and flashing. That's all I need. And shortly after, modded ROMs based on that stock release will appear.

No, it can't be real because there will come a time where the sgs specs will no longer be enough to run the latest android. Or Samsung will decide to stop investing in the sgs. Porting costs money.

I'm pretty sure, Samsung Galaxy S will continue to get updates as long as 2.x.x continues and it will continue for low-end devices, such as security updates and bug fixes. Heck, Amazon Kindle has an 2.x.x android and is grand hit in US for instance or just like Firefox 3.x is continuing to get updates as 3.x.x still...
But I don't think it will get official Ice Cream Sandwich but sure 4.0 will be out for it, unofficially...

Ontopic: tbh the reason why it is taking so long for ics updates is probably because touchwiz has to be rewritten for ICS. I wouldn't count on an ics update for the galaxy s (not saying it's not possible) but i wouldn't care to much. We will still be getting ics though cyanogen if samsung doesnt release it officially

I care. It's a load of crap that a branded (AT&T, none the less) phone has leaks before the international version does. We do not have a stable/usable ICS version yet that doesn't present bricking as a possible outcome.... extremely frustrating.

It'll be nice to have an official ICS release for the international Note if only for the purposes of ripping out the necessary drivers and framework tweaks needed to get an AOSP build work perfectly (hardware accelerated video, true S-Pen functionality, MHL output, USB OTG, etc...)

Amen Bro ! Thats why I love this site so much. It doesn't really matter what T-Mobile does so its kind of a pointless conversation. I would't really even take the KIES update or OTA update from T-Mobile anyways. I will wait untill someone here gets a good stable JB Release. I am reluctant to change because my ICS rom is so smooth and stable but I know within a few months it will be worth it. It's like a slap in the face to the slow and bloated T-Mo. Rom.

I wouldn't do a kies update either. My hope is for Samsung to release source so that the devs here have more to work with. That was what dogged the vibrant. They eventually released Froyo for it, but nothing further. The GB/ICS/JB releases for it were all ported from either the i9000 or the Nexus S, and had to be tweaked since there was no actual source to work with for the vibrant itself. That's why the GPS was so spotty on it on any version of android after Froyo. I'm glad that my insurance replacement for my busted Vibrant was the Hercules, which is still in the window of time (was it 18 months?) that they pledged to support upgrades to android. Whether we actually see it is another story. At least the devs here really kick some butt on the ROMs they release.

"The Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 are the devices that we expect to run Android 4.1 at some point in the immediate, or not-so-immediate, future. In case you happen to own any of these three devices, you’ll be happy to hear that Samsung Sweden has confirmed that all of them will get Jelly Bean in the coming months.
The Galaxy S2 will be updated to Jelly Bean at some point in November, while the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be upgraded in Q4 2012. Considering that we’re already in the fourth quarter of the year, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Galaxy S2 receive the update at some point next month, with the phablet and tablet to receive it after the handset.
According to Samsung Sweden, the Jelly Bean updates will be available over-the-air or via KIES, but we’ll cross those bridges once we get there. Needless to say that while Samsung may be ready to start releasing the updates, it’s still up to the carriers to issue them."

I waited for months for the official Samsung ICS update only to find nothing much had changed in their ROM. Since then I have been on custom ROMs getting the true Android experience as Google intended it to be. As I see it....is more an assumption from sammobile than a samsung confirmation. But I really hope for this to be true. I will buy a note 2 soon....and I want to see 4.4 officialy on my note.

I dont see any reason why the note 2 SHOULD NOT get the 4.4 version. It can even handle android 5.0 in the near future.
By looking at S2 history, we should get even 5.0... Because S2 started with 2.3.4 and ended with 4.1.2.... it got 3 major updates.. but in our case, we started with 4.1.1 and still are in 4.1.2 officially... so 4.3 will be first... 4.4 will be second and 5.0 will be final I believe.

I'm just sick of seeing this crap. Samsung still has to develop 4.3 on touchwiz framework, which has a hell lot more features than rest of the customized firmwares.

Yeah sure. They failed to get 4.2 out of the door, they pulled 4.3 so we are still waiting for an update over a year after the last update, 4.1.2.
I really look forward to see how they will fail to release 4.4.
I have it on good authority (glass orb) that they also plan to try a release of 5.0 which, as all previous updates, will fail to materialise. If I just wait long enough, I am sure I will also witness the non-release of 8.0...
Note 2 will get the 4.4 on April 2014, same with the S3. S4 and Note3 will get it on January 2014

Ha ha ha!! Oh dear, you are so very wrong my friend. At least your optimistic. :good:
Like a number of other posters I don't see the point in waiting for the original Samsung updates. By the time we get 4.3 official, 4.4 is out. By the time we get 4.4 the next iteration will be out. Even Sony, who seem to be on the ball, just get an aosp rom working in their device and then release it to devs to build the rooms - so for me, its custom ROMs all the way!
