I have a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7. I have been trying NFC beaming between both. The issue I am facing is that I can beam things like images, links etc. from the Nexus 7 to the Nexus 4, but this transfer doesn't go the other way ie. from the 4 to the 7.
If I have a beam-able item open on the 4 and I am on the home screen of the 7, then I do hear the devices recognize each other (the little sound and buzzing) but the Nexus 4 does not give the "touch to beam" option.
If the shareable item is on the N7 then I get the "touch to bean" as usual.
Has anyone faced this issue and / or has a solution for it.
No responses here. Anyone?
That's more than I can do. I never much can beam anything even pics. I just use Bluetooth share or for large files Wifi-Direct which offers 30mbps file transfers between devices

I've successfully beamed a few pics, its a little tedious though, the NFC spot on the N7 seems to be on the upper right side of the back, or at least that's were it seems to ding for me, but it's hard to hold them both and then click the beam button, then hold them still enough to make the transfer, I usually use a WiFi file transfer

I can beam without a problem from the N7 to the N4, but not the other way round. I am always looking to transfer pictures and wallpapers from the N4 to the N7 but without the NFC it's just additional steps to do this.
Oh well...
It seems that it was user error. I hadn't turned on android beam on the N4! Doh!
Sorry to bother you guys...

How do I use s beam on the nexus 7 and galaxy nexus I can't get it to work
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Well s beam is on the Galaxy SIII, but you can use android beam by making sure that you have NFC is turned on in the settings and android beam is also. Then you can tap the back of your phone against the upper part of the back of the Nexus 7

On both devices, GO TO SETTINGS > WIRELESS & NETWORKS > MORE > Check NFC
Hold the back of the Gnex up to the TOP RIGHT CORNER of the BACK of the Nexus 7.
You should hear a sound and prompt to 'beam' whatever it is. I tested with a webpage, works great.
Hope this helps. :good:
Weird isn't working maybe its the ROM I'm using jelly belly

I got it to work, also. It's very cool. Hold your two NFC devices together, back to back (make sure your phone is lined up with the top edge of the tablet). When they chime, look at the one you want to transmit from and touch the screen. Your information should transmit.

Has S-Beam been ported to the GNex? I think that's the root of the question. S Beam can transfer large files quickly while android beam is slow and only allows small files.
Hi Folks, my seem like overkill but i was listening to music on my nexus 7 this morning so had it in my coat pocket.. my galaxy nexus was in my shirt pocket so was able to access very easily... had a thought about how cool it would be if i could use the phone to control the music palyer on my nexus 7 to select music to play skip tracks/change volume etc without touching the nexus 7... is there any equivalent to 'remote desktop' on pcs that i could use to browse the 7 from the phone?
Cheers,
Mick
Anyway to control the nexus 7 from an android phone

Please forgive me if this has been posted. I tried searching and found endless unrelated posts.
My Nexus 7 is also on 4.2, but when I adjust the volume, I have the option for expandable volume selection. I can't seem to do this on the Nexus 4. Is this just not an option, or am I suffering from brain cramps? Thanks in advance!
Does your Nexus 7 run CyanogenMod? That's a feature of CM10 and 10.1 so unless your Nexus 4 is running that as well....?
Pretty sure that's the default behavior. Don't think you can get expandable volume on the phone unless you root.

No, my N7 and N4 are both stock rooted, so I'm not sure why the difference. But it's there.

I'm with you and with same exact setup and I'm totally missing the expandable volumes feature on my n4. I want to be able to set alert volumes independently. Odd that it's on the n7 and not the n4.

You think that's bad. You know how you can have the N4 long press for numbers on the keyboard. You can't with the N7. It's madness!

Both my Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 are bone stock. There is no volume expansion on the 4.

I have to bump this thread even if is pretty old.
I can't find a way to add this feature to the stock android 4.3 and since I just bought the Nexus 4 I would like to avoid flashing it already with the cyanogenmod only for this feature ^^
My wife's N7 has a smart case on it but it doesn't wake up when you open the case or sleep when you shut it. If I put my N7 in her case it works as it should. I have moved the magnet around a little bit to see if that might help but it doesn't. I searched the settings for any way to toggle something like that on/off but couldn't see anything that would. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks
Could be a hardware issue. If your Nexus does it correctly with the same case.
To be sure, get a random magnet from your house, and just find the point on the device that locks yours.
Then, try the same place on your wife's nexus, if the same magnet doesn't work for your Wife's device, im inclined to say its hardware.
There is an app called AndroSensor that will show you if your magnetic sensor is working. Compare your two units.

Both WiFi N7
The camera on this phone is OK. Its not as good as my Panasonic digital camera though. So I thought to my self wouldn't it be great if I could somehow connect my camera to my phone for easy upload to social networks and forums.
I've had my camera connected via USB to my Samsung phones and I can view pictures.
Would this work with the nexus 4. Also carrying a cable around would be a pain so what I'm really looking for would be some sort of USB bluetooth transmitter that I can plug into the usb of the camera for it then to be picked up by my nexus 4. Has anyone seen anything like this?
Thanks
Steven

Sure is! This is literally exactly what you want! http://www.eye.fi/products/mobi
It can transfer photos to your phone in real time as you take them.
My god. That is amazing! Haha. Well I'm buying that Means all my photos I take from my digital camera get uploaded to dropbox automatically. The only thing in my book that let's this phone down is the camera. Oh and the battery but I have that sorted by adding a note 2 battery I can't see me getting rid of this phone for a while
