My wife's N7 has a smart case on it but it doesn't wake up when you open the case or sleep when you shut it. If I put my N7 in her case it works as it should. I have moved the magnet around a little bit to see if that might help but it doesn't. I searched the settings for any way to toggle something like that on/off but couldn't see anything that would. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks
Could be a hardware issue. If your Nexus does it correctly with the same case.
To be sure, get a random magnet from your house, and just find the point on the device that locks yours.
Then, try the same place on your wife's nexus, if the same magnet doesn't work for your Wife's device, im inclined to say its hardware.
There is an app called AndroSensor that will show you if your magnetic sensor is working. Compare your two units.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of mod or app or something that allows you to turn on the screen by touch. With the case I'm using the power button is quite hard to trigger.

This is available for the Galaxy Nexus. I use it and find it quite useful. As far as I know, there isn't a solution for the Nexus 7, yet.

I love touch wake on my SGS, when I get a good N7 I think that is the mod I will want most.

You could fasten a small magnet to your person and use it as your "smart cover".
I haz no sig
Awesome on/off ultimate works on the N7, you just tilt slightly to wake, since the GNex solution requires a module to be added to the kernel.
(both will use battery, the app I mentioned states 5% per day)
Ok thanks" I'll look around
Thanks for this. I can get the "on" option to work, but not the "off". Does it work for you?

I got a Ballistic SG case today and installed it on my phone. After a few hours of using it, the power button mysteriously stopped working. I was able to make it so the volume button unlocks it, but now I can't lock the phone and have to battery pull to turn it off (and it just turns back on, as if the power button is perma-pushed). Does anyone know what i can do about this? Does this seem like a hardware malfunction? Should I not use the case? Thanks for any help
Same case mine is fine.

Best case ever
Tried many cases in the past and the Ballistic Case is the best. Since i purchased it I never have thought about changing cases.

Has anyone gotten this problem? Sometimes, when I try to unlock my Nexus 7, it doesn't actually unlock and turns off the screen. This happens several times before it finally does unlock. (Sometimes you have to activate Google Now before it will unlock) I would like to report this to Google but I am unsure how to do that by email. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem too. Thanks!
Surely someone must have had this problem too.

Nope, are you on a custom ROM or kernel?

No, not even rooted. It seems to happen most frequently with third party apps.

Maybe it is a problem with the third party app? ...

I've noticed it especially with skpye, but it has happened with stock apps like chrome and gmail too.
EDIT: just had it happen with the Twitter app. It seems it goes to sleep earlier than it should when the unlocking problem happens.

I had the same issue. Let me guess...you have a folio case with the magnetic smart cover feature?

No problem here...
I also at times have problems with the unlock screen.
The lock screen at times is just in a frozen state.
To fix I press the power button to turn of the screen and hit it again to turn back on the screen.
The lock screen then functions as usual.
Note: This happens even when I have no apps open.
Well as it turns out, a lot of the folio cases with the sleep/wake function use magnets that are too powerful. When the case is folded all the way back, the magnet is activating the sleep function. I almost sent my tablet in for RMA but then I realized it was the case. If it happens again, just let the flap hang and you should be able to unlock your device hope I helped.

I do not have the smart case and I have a frozen lock screen issue.
LCD often has wake up lag.

I have a folio case. Never thought that could be the issue. I'll try letting it hang freely from now on. Could someone tell Google about this so they can release an update to fix it? (since people without the case are having the same issue)
Im purchasing a used Note 10.1 tomorrow and was wondering if there is anything specific I should be looking for on a used unit. It is supposedly in perfect condition and just has not been used as much as the original owner thought he would.
Thanks!
There was one guy who had problem with the S pen, so see if its work 100% as it should.
Physical condition is important but i think u will see that anyway.
ps. if the guy has flashed something on the note 10.1, then do check if the tablet has still its IMEI
there was one guy who had lost his imei and tried to sell me his phone lol
Make sure camera works. Check to see if there are any dead spots with touch screen(go to app drawer & touch different icons & move them around), make sure s-pen works, check for scratches or marks on screen & body. If you can tether to your phone or in a place with wifi, make sure you can connect to wifi, see if maps can get a gps lock.
Running a benchmark or two is not a bad idea.

I replaced my screen. And now I am experiencing problems with battery life, and in need of an RMA. My question is how closely does Google look at the device that are shipped back, will they notice that the screen was replaced? I also forgot to put back the blue tab that was connecting the battery and holding the antenna down in place. Will they take the phone apart and find out I had disasebmled it? Also there is a small gap at the bottom between the bezel and the left screw. I think its due to one of the clips not connecting correctly. I could probably fix all those things but I lost my T6 screw driver, so should I worry about any of those things?

Not sure how picky Google is, but I sent a MyTouch slide into T-Mobile with the screen replaced, they noticed. I have no idea how, I put it all back together. I also recently sent my Nexus 4 in to Asurion for a replacement, the screen went wacky and I opened it to see if it was a loose connection. They didn't notice that.
Honestly you won't know until you try.
