Possibly turn on the screen by touch? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering if there is some kind of mod or app or something that allows you to turn on the screen by touch. With the case I'm using the power button is quite hard to trigger.

This is available for the Galaxy Nexus. I use it and find it quite useful. As far as I know, there isn't a solution for the Nexus 7, yet.

I love touch wake on my SGS, when I get a good N7 I think that is the mod I will want most.

You could fasten a small magnet to your person and use it as your "smart cover".
I haz no sig

Awesome on/off ultimate works on the N7, you just tilt slightly to wake, since the GNex solution requires a module to be added to the kernel.
(both will use battery, the app I mentioned states 5% per day)

Ok thanks" I'll look around

Thanks for this. I can get the "on" option to work, but not the "off". Does it work for you?

Anyone else with this screen problem

Around the notification bar area, touch the screen hard. Does your screen feel like its clicking in like the blackberry storm? I have a problem and I'm wondering if it's only me

Yeah, not super hard, as I don't want to break it. But a lot harder then I would be if I was trying to use the touch screen or buttons.
If I were you I'd go to best buy and ask to play with the demo. Try it on the demo, if it doesn't happen, exchange yours.
Thanks for the advice

Did you try it with the screen off or on because mine seems to do it when on only
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine does NOT click or feel like it's clicking when touching (moderate pressure) the notification bar area (right, left or center), with the screen on or off.
None of the three Nexus S handsets I've gone through so far have done that. Take it back. Samsung's QC needs a lot of work.
Thanks alot for the replies guys. I'll be exchanging it
I unfortunately just realized I have this problem, right near the FCC woohoo 3rd nexus s
yea it sucks tell me how your exchange goes

Power button not working, how much to fix??

So I got the phone like 3 days ago through Craig's. Today I started noticing power button failures. And finally, it died out and it doesn't work anymore. I use app to turn of screen and wake with volume. How much would Samsung fix it for? Ans how much would it be for a regular mobile store

Hy i dont know how much would the repear cost, but how do you turn on your phone then? I can advise you an app that i am using it's called Smart screen on, it's available on play store. What it does is it turns your proximity sensor into screen on and off switch. You can set it up the way you like, for instance you can just wave over the sensor and it will turn the screen on and the same for turning it off B-)

It's in the settings. Nothing big really. It's location can differ from rom to rom but it's usually called Volume rocker wake.
The repair costs around 50-60$ US for the power button.
I just had mine repaired:
it cost me $30 + (shipping from my part $9 insured)
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/nexus-s-power-button-repair/
I tried calling Samsung and the only thing they were able to tell me is that the minimum repair is $75 usd (+ my shipping), they didn't tell me how much to repair the button, but it is at least $75

[Q]Nexus 4 touch sensitivity sucks

Coming from an s3 I was able to use my finger nail if I wanted to click on stuff and scroll. No joke I can post a video lol.
Just got my nexus four tonight and I love the phone overall but the touch sensitivity is really bad. Any ideas how I can improve it?

There's a mod in one of the Dev forums... I haven't used it but it seems to be working for those that have installed it.

Lol You're fingernail at the time you were using your s3 must have been short, thus allowing your finger as well to touch the screen without you noticing it. And now that you use your nexus 4, you're fingernail is long again..
P.S. Peace I come in peace

Lol ... No. Actually used the back of nail where no skin would be able to touch.
On the n4 I press as hard as I want with my nail and it won't click anything.

This topic doesn't make sense. How does the screen suck when nails aren't supposed to be able to work on a capacitive screen normally?

I never said the screen sucks. I said the touch sensitivity does. And I was using my nail as a comparison between the s3 and n4 screen touch sensitivity.
Your reading and comprehension sucks.

Really? What are you touching then when you're testing the sensitivity? Do you even understand how capacitive screens work?
The sensitivity mod allows you to tap with the back of fingernail (i know i tried lol). It uses the earlier touch driver, but it does have the side affect of making the phone stall for a minute or more when first booted up; but if used with the supplied modded stock kernel you only have this happen once, also 'Matr1x' kernel also has this feature.

Everything and anything on my phone.
Even if I put my finger on the screen slowly without adding too much pressure it will not recognize the touch...try it.
I guess I'm just used to the s3 really sensitive touch screen.

Can you scroll on your home screen or click on apps with your finger nail?
Can you tap on an app with your finger ever so slightly, but definitely make contact with the glass, on an app icon or keyboard, and no action happens? Meaning the app doesn't open or the letter pressed isn't typed in...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I can scroll with the back of my fingernail, and can open apps with a very small amount of pressure. I don't see why I would use my fingernail anyway

Just checked, it works on the back of my fingernail but not the tip of my fingernail

Lol you wouldn't. I was just using that as a reference to my s3. I could do it on the s3 but not my n4.
Is it possible I got a defect or what? Did you flash the mod...

I can't do either. My sensitivity is really bad. It's really annoying when I'm typing so fast and half the letters pressed don't register.

Wow most of you are assholes.. I stopped reading after the 3rd negative response. Does anyone know what an example is? That is what the OP was saying when they said they could select things with their fingernail. It does not mean that they want it to do that but only showing an example of its sensitivity that their other phone had and I can tell you that you CANNOT do this on the Nexus 4 unless you push somewhat. My GS2 would scroll with no issues by grazing the screen I actually have to push before doing the mod.
There is a temp fix and it works fairly well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028289

Power modes like windows

Hey guys this might be a strange or stupid question.
I'm looking to see if anyone knows of a silent app or some flash able mod that can do the following.
plugged into a power source the screen timeout will change to say 10 min and brightness to 100%. Then when I remove power the screen will go to auto brightness and timeout in 1 min.
I'm kinda surprised android didn't ship with this feature. A feature I really think needs to be implemented, or if I'm just so stupid I can't find this option, just call me a idiot and tell me where in settings it is lol.

well, it doesnt exist in the system but you could get this function with Tasker
i would imagine that it doesnt exist because it is such a rare case scenario, considering the device is designed to run disconnected from power....its a mobile device
Maybe one of those power or battery saver program can do it. But I guess you can try Tasker.

[Q] Smart Case Wake up

My wife's N7 has a smart case on it but it doesn't wake up when you open the case or sleep when you shut it. If I put my N7 in her case it works as it should. I have moved the magnet around a little bit to see if that might help but it doesn't. I searched the settings for any way to toggle something like that on/off but couldn't see anything that would. Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks
Could be a hardware issue. If your Nexus does it correctly with the same case.
To be sure, get a random magnet from your house, and just find the point on the device that locks yours.
Then, try the same place on your wife's nexus, if the same magnet doesn't work for your Wife's device, im inclined to say its hardware.
There is an app called AndroSensor that will show you if your magnetic sensor is working. Compare your two units.
