This isn't really a question, but more of a discussion. I know a lot of you love the Nexus S because of its size. And I just bought one for precisely that reason: 4.0" seems perfect. I currently have a Gnex and 4.65" is just a bit large. I had a One X for 3 weeks, and 4.7" was definitely too large. My wife has a GS2, and even 4.3" is a little bit too large.
Is the Nexus S the best phone in the 3.7 - 4.0 inch range that is available? That's 9.4 to 10.2 cm for those of you on the metric system =P
I think software-wise and dev-support wise, the answer is clearly yes. But what about hardware wise? There certainly don't seem to be many high-end smaller phones these days, and I think that's a shame. I'd love to see a high end (dual-core, 1GB ram, 300+ppi pixel density) 4" android phone!
I'd look to Sony phones with that size, also nice looking hardware and options. But as for upgradability and community nothing beats a Nexus.
For me no, 4.3 inch is perfect size. But this phone feels so good in hand

Now that we know that despite being what, 1 or 2 years older than it's larger sibling and cousins, it's still going to get the latest and greatest version of vanilla android, and thus more awesome custom ROMs from our talented developers, my answer to your question is:
HELL YEAH!!! :victory:
The sony xperia p and galaxy S advance have much superior hardware. BUT they are still stuck on GB when we will be getting JB very soon lol.
like the 4" phone size...hope there is a new nexus in this range during this xmas (by sony or htc hopefully)

It seems Google really wants button less devices to work so I doubt a nexus would be under 4.3 at the minimum since that would fit in the Nexus S footprint without buttons.
LG optimus X2
Motorala Atrix
SGSII (4.2 inches tho)
Sony Xperia P
Are all much more powerul than the Nexus S and have a 4inch screen.

i would love next nexus to have screen size at around 4,5inches, but not at costs of carrying mini tablet in my pocket.
hopefully they will use front panel more efficiently , with more scrren and less bezel.
My wife is upgrading here phone and I have the chance to upgrade my Droid X to another Verizon android phone. I was wondering if I should do this? I have been perfectly happy with my original Droid X (even though it is just 3G). The thing is that I'm currently running CM7 and I want one of the newer ROMS. All the newer phones seem to get the stable releases of the most recent version of Android. However, I could not find a Droid X ICS where the camera works. I guess my question are...
What is the most stable ICS or Jelly Bean ROM for the Droid X currently available?
and...
If there is none, what US phone would you guys recommend I get? Preferably one without a locked bootloader.
I'm running AOKP and camera works fine.
I just flashed liquid ICS V1.6 and all of it works great just go to DROIDX forums into ICS Roms and it's there all in one download GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER

If you can hold out, wait until the next Nexus releases.
Or you can carrier swap and get the Galaxy Note 2.
Or you can switch now and get a Galaxy Nexus =D

If I were staying on Verizon, I would be getting the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. It fits almost all of my criteria for a great phone, gets good-to-great reviews in all I've read, and has been very well received by the market. If you're okay with S3-sized phones, the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD comes out this December as an upgrade from the RAZR MAXX (itself a great phone by all accounts).
On a side-note, I wish I could say I've been perfectly happy with my X.
That is a good question. Verizon is making the plans more expensive. Which makes waiting to upgrade well worth doing. And there will always will be a better device around the corner. So at one hand if you are happy with your device then stick with it until you are not happy.
That said I am going forward with Galaxy Note 2 within a couple of weeks. Jelly Bean is well worth upgrading to. But only Galaxy Note 2 has Jelly Bean right now. So if you don't like the size of the Galaxy Note 2 then wait. Galaxy S3 is a wonderful device that should be getting Jelly Bean. But Galaxy S3 is only dual-core while Galaxy Note 2 is quad-core. Quad-core devices will soon be the normal. That said both Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 show similar response times.
I wouldn't get any device that won't be upgrading to Jelly Bean, like the Maxx HD. Jelly Bean so well worth the wait. And Galaxy Note 2 has similar battery life as Maxx HD while having Jelly Bean and easier removable battery.
Thank you all for the informative replies. It looks like I'll stick with my Droid X for now; I'll give AOKP or liquid ICS a try. I will eventually have to get a new phone so I guess I'll post back here to get everyones opinion when that time comes.
Really?

come on man. don't hate on the Maxx HD. It will be receiving jelly bean before the end of the year. The battery life and the build quality of the phone is amazing beyond any other manufacture. The DROID X is a beast of a phone i had it for 26 months and i used that thing more than anything. The same quality and design (any so much more, obviously) was put into the DROID Razr Maxx HD.

What do you get with MAXX HD that you don't get with Galaxy Note 2? The battery juice is almost the same between each device (MAXX HD 3300 mAh vs Note 2 3100 mAh). Other than the MAXX HD having a slight higher mAh with the battery there is nothing else I see that would make me look at MAXX HD. Lots of trouble in replacing the battery in MAXX HD (need a battery corversion kit) vs the ease of changing battery in Note 2 offsets the slight difference in battery juice in favor of Note 2.
I love the ruggedness build of Motorola. But right now I wouldn't recommend MAXX HD when we have (will have at Verizon in Nov, 27 - Roamer has it w/ Multitasking ready out of the box -) Galaxy Note 2. And there are others coming down the line that will be better choice than MAXX HD.
Remember I am a Motorola Droid X user. What a rugged device, that served me well. But times changed.
Motorola Droid X
Android Version: 2.3.3 Gingerbread
Build: 4.5.1_57_DX5-35 (Rooted) (from TeamBlackHat)
Home Launchers: ADWLauncher and ADWLauncher EX
System Version: 4.5.605.Accurate_Battery
All I have to say that look at your topic. You say should I upgrade from Droid X? Well that statement implies that you don't need a new phone. Just want. You will get that sane feeling with the Max HD. Note 2 nice device. However big screen like that you need a big battery to run it. As far as replacing the battery. I have seen it done on Motorolas website of the new RAZR line. Doesn't look hard at all. This coming from me whom I wouldn't take apart a device I almost spent 400 on. Now with Motorola we know the build, quality is amazing. As far as Samsung its a hit and miss. Even though I own only Samsung TVs. Enjoy what ever you may choose.

Title says it all. Excellent deal. The dock is designed for the Infuse but it is reported on Amazon that the dock works for the Skyrocket and other S2 phones. Not positive about the S3 but the Infuse and S3 are similar size so... Regular $40, on for $5 + tax with FS.
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/accessories/chargers/sku5190306.html
Amazon reviews (3rd review confirms dock works with Skyrocket, the SR is slightly narrower than the Infuse 4G) so the SR should easily fit no problem:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Multi...qid=1352268965&sr=8-1&keywords=infuse+4g+dock
Phone dimensions:
Samsung Infuse
5.20 x 2.80 x 0.35 (132 x 71 x 9 mm)
LG Nexus 4
5.27 x 2.70 x 0.36 (133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm)
Samsung Galaxy S3
5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 (136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm)
S2
5.11 x 2.71 x 0.37 (130 x 69 x 9 mm)
GPS Mount is also $5 https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/accessories/cases/sku5190308.html#fbid=2TLWIcU2kQg
Looks like the Mount also works with Skyrocket as seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353291
Thanks got the gps mount... Will be good for long travel session. Not for everyday though since I use extended battery.
Edit/ wait they cancelled my orser because I exceeded number of lines I can purchase... i dunno. Oh well.... Not meant to be. Haha

What do you think about the smaller screen but it using up more of the form factor?
Our 7.7
Size 196.7 x 133 x 7.9 mm 340g
Screen 166.5 x 103.6 mm 1280 x 800
6.3
Size 168 x 88 x 8 mm 199g
Screen 139.5 x 78.5 mm 1280 x 720
The width is 35% narrower but the screen is only 25% narrower.
I keep my 7.7 in my pocket as it is my primary phone but the Mega 6.3 is much more pocketable. Do you think the 25% reduction in screen size is worth this?
Each to their own. I ditched the nexus 7 as the screen was too small for me, the 7.7 is great though.
I don't see myself going to anything smaller that a 7.7,unless there will be no further production, then I will get whatever big screen is available at that time

I might take a look at the NOTE 8.0
But for now nothing comes close to the 7.7

Yeah the note 8 looks nice even if it has an inferior display. If only our tab had an s stylus type pen it would be complete

I just want the offical 4.2.2 rom for 6800, no more.
Nothing is even close to how good 7.7 is. But mega being more pocket-able might be the only reason I'll even look at it. Not inspired by likes of Note 8 or anything else.
The 4.2.2 for the 6800 is not important for me, the tab does everything it should in ICS and it does it beautifully
I think I would have gotten a note2 if I were going that smaller.. Also, considering you can get Verizon version here in us for 350$, It wasn't even a selection really for me. 7.7 after so many years is still hands down the best tablet.
The new Nexus 7 looks very interesting :good:
yeah nothing is going to top 7.7 form factor and hardware. Still the only oled tablet on the market..

You know what I mean, slim, small, great specs :silly:
Where and where do youse think that the 6.3 will go on sale.....??
Im going to get one and give up my i717.
Have you all googled z3x? It looks to be the successor to the z ultra that I know many of you, like myself, currently have.
The only reason I was considering a z3 tablet compact was cause I saw no successor to the Z ultra I currently have.
This Z3x looks to be what we've all been wanting.

6.2 inch is a dealbreaker to me. I use my Ultra for reading and can't take a smaller display so the Tablet Compact is still on the radar or rather, I am more or less fully ready to get it.
The Z3x looks like a great device, though but the smaller screen breaks it for me. If they would have introduced a 6.5 inch or perhaps 7 inch, I would have been all over it.

A whole fifth of an inch on the diagonal would matter that much? If mine magically shrunk that much I may not even notice.

The difference between 5.3 and 5.5 inch (Note I to Note II) or 5.5 to 5.7 inch (Note II to Note 3 and 4) is noticeable. For reading and browsing purposes, it is enough to shrink the text or force some extra zooming.
I am simply not interested in going down from 6.44 to 6.2 inches. Sony could very well give us a bigger screen while keeping the same overall size. A 7 inch screen with the same device proportions would also be perfect (it would be smaller than a Nexus 7 and just slightly bigger than the Ultra).
Even if 0.24 inches sounds little, it is certainly noticeable. It is around 6 mm smaller and yes, it is a step backwards for me.
If I want a smaller device, I can jump all the way down to around 6 inches then since most of the market hovers around 5.5-6 inches. It would be easy but I have realized that I prefer to go full in for a tablet replacement and a size that reduces the cravings for a 10 inch "full-size" device. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact fit that bill and a 7 inch phablet with slim bezels would also do the same.
The Nexus 7 physical size is my optimum sweetspot, size wise.
