My wife is upgrading here phone and I have the chance to upgrade my Droid X to another Verizon android phone. I was wondering if I should do this? I have been perfectly happy with my original Droid X (even though it is just 3G). The thing is that I'm currently running CM7 and I want one of the newer ROMS. All the newer phones seem to get the stable releases of the most recent version of Android. However, I could not find a Droid X ICS where the camera works. I guess my question are...
What is the most stable ICS or Jelly Bean ROM for the Droid X currently available?
and...
If there is none, what US phone would you guys recommend I get? Preferably one without a locked bootloader.
I'm running AOKP and camera works fine.
I just flashed liquid ICS V1.6 and all of it works great just go to DROIDX forums into ICS Roms and it's there all in one download GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER

If you can hold out, wait until the next Nexus releases.
Or you can carrier swap and get the Galaxy Note 2.
Or you can switch now and get a Galaxy Nexus =D

If I were staying on Verizon, I would be getting the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. It fits almost all of my criteria for a great phone, gets good-to-great reviews in all I've read, and has been very well received by the market. If you're okay with S3-sized phones, the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD comes out this December as an upgrade from the RAZR MAXX (itself a great phone by all accounts).
On a side-note, I wish I could say I've been perfectly happy with my X.
That is a good question. Verizon is making the plans more expensive. Which makes waiting to upgrade well worth doing. And there will always will be a better device around the corner. So at one hand if you are happy with your device then stick with it until you are not happy.
That said I am going forward with Galaxy Note 2 within a couple of weeks. Jelly Bean is well worth upgrading to. But only Galaxy Note 2 has Jelly Bean right now. So if you don't like the size of the Galaxy Note 2 then wait. Galaxy S3 is a wonderful device that should be getting Jelly Bean. But Galaxy S3 is only dual-core while Galaxy Note 2 is quad-core. Quad-core devices will soon be the normal. That said both Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 show similar response times.
I wouldn't get any device that won't be upgrading to Jelly Bean, like the Maxx HD. Jelly Bean so well worth the wait. And Galaxy Note 2 has similar battery life as Maxx HD while having Jelly Bean and easier removable battery.
Thank you all for the informative replies. It looks like I'll stick with my Droid X for now; I'll give AOKP or liquid ICS a try. I will eventually have to get a new phone so I guess I'll post back here to get everyones opinion when that time comes.
Really?

come on man. don't hate on the Maxx HD. It will be receiving jelly bean before the end of the year. The battery life and the build quality of the phone is amazing beyond any other manufacture. The DROID X is a beast of a phone i had it for 26 months and i used that thing more than anything. The same quality and design (any so much more, obviously) was put into the DROID Razr Maxx HD.

What do you get with MAXX HD that you don't get with Galaxy Note 2? The battery juice is almost the same between each device (MAXX HD 3300 mAh vs Note 2 3100 mAh). Other than the MAXX HD having a slight higher mAh with the battery there is nothing else I see that would make me look at MAXX HD. Lots of trouble in replacing the battery in MAXX HD (need a battery corversion kit) vs the ease of changing battery in Note 2 offsets the slight difference in battery juice in favor of Note 2.
I love the ruggedness build of Motorola. But right now I wouldn't recommend MAXX HD when we have (will have at Verizon in Nov, 27 - Roamer has it w/ Multitasking ready out of the box -) Galaxy Note 2. And there are others coming down the line that will be better choice than MAXX HD.
Remember I am a Motorola Droid X user. What a rugged device, that served me well. But times changed.
Motorola Droid X
Android Version: 2.3.3 Gingerbread
Build: 4.5.1_57_DX5-35 (Rooted) (from TeamBlackHat)
Home Launchers: ADWLauncher and ADWLauncher EX
System Version: 4.5.605.Accurate_Battery
All I have to say that look at your topic. You say should I upgrade from Droid X? Well that statement implies that you don't need a new phone. Just want. You will get that sane feeling with the Max HD. Note 2 nice device. However big screen like that you need a big battery to run it. As far as replacing the battery. I have seen it done on Motorolas website of the new RAZR line. Doesn't look hard at all. This coming from me whom I wouldn't take apart a device I almost spent 400 on. Now with Motorola we know the build, quality is amazing. As far as Samsung its a hit and miss. Even though I own only Samsung TVs. Enjoy what ever you may choose.

just ordered a galaxy note 10.1 in clove. will received it in a week
i am giving my xoom to my dad
the main reason i bought note 10.1 is:
1) it's note taking ability is really useful for me
2) samsung's cpu is for more better than tegra (it's true, except can't play tegra 3 games)
3) tried s3 , found that samsung's touchwiz is actually better than i thought (at least better than my razr!)
4) crazy multitasking (there's a preview showed that it can run 4 apps in screen soon)
anyway, i just want to say, i really happy with my xoom.
i think this is moto's best device ever (owned a razr, moto's customization sucks)
for 18months, i use it everyday, for browsing, music, video, youtube, note taking, gaming etc
almost everything.
for me, some of the cons is
1) too heavy. extremely good build quality, but it's really to heavy for gaming.
2) display isn't as good as other devices
i'd like to say THANK YOU for everyone that helped me with flashing roms, rooting, customizing etc
and thanks teameos for the awesome roms
hope you guys continue enjoy this wonderful device!
Hope you enjoy ur new device. Sounds awesome! However Motorolas' build quality is by far superior to any device manufacturer. I think most people dont realize this until 1 year or so. I love my DROID X and DROID Xyboard 8.2. My xyboard is tough as hell, I dropt it to many times because of my gf, she always likes to grab it away when I am reading on DROID life. It usually hits the ground from their. Still fine and no scratches yet....

yes it is a little bit heavy but still a good tablet
maybe i will buy a N7 - but at the moment i´m still lucky with my xoom
the build of xoom is excellent quality but ok, it starts to get kind of old...i wont give up since we have jb but i know that i ll have to search for sth else in future...hope u enjoy ur samsung as much as the xoom!
I'm getting a N7 soon... But that doesn't mean I will give away my Xoom, anyway... Good luck with your Note 10.1
Edit: won't buy N7 anymore lol... Will stick with my Xoom and will buy an HTC One X Tegra 3 soon
Sent from my 3g JB Xoom - By the 1st Xoom RC
With Team EOS JB to keep me current I'm sticking with my Xoom4G until I see a 3rd Gen 10" tablet with all the ports and features the Xoom has plus is Google Experience.
Just looking at the shelf life this Xoom has provided as not only a 1st Gen Android Tablet but the unit that was the test bed for Android Tablet entirely I won't give it up so easily.
While there is much better hardware out there unless your a big Tablet gamer it mostly goes to waste on anything but smoothness and Project Butter in JB has brought a lot of that back to the Xoom anyway.
Nexus7 may be a GE device but it doesn't have even half the features the Xoom has in the port and video dept.
Hopefully Asus will get the next High End GE release because I love thier design and dock feature but won't go that route until it has 4G and is GE.
lol just saying that touchwiz is better than moto razrs vanilla ics is just plain stupid..

I'm not to concerned about comparing them becasue that S3 is just too big to hold to your head as a phone. Razr I just is that goldilocks size...not to big not to small just damn right. thanks for the link
I have the S3, I have not come across any phone that is better imo. I am getting the RAZR i this week so I can do a fair comparison
I have a RAZR I and my friend has the s3 so we tested against each other.
To make the test as fair as possible we both used stock os as out of the box and did a factory reset, and installed the same apps on both phones.
The antutu test showed a much better result on the sgs3.
However when we tested the app we installed there was no clear winner and only a split second in the 2 phones s3 was quicker in some apps and the RAZR I was quicker in others overall I would say they are very well matched in user performance.
But the speed of the camera on the RAZR I won hands down and is much faster then the s3 camera.
From power off the s3 is much faster to boot.
And both me and my friend agree that the build quality of the RAZR I is much better then that of the s3 (my friends s3 is 4 months old and he has already broken 2 screens) nuff said about the build.
So all in all both me and my friend agree the only advantage of the s3 is the bigger screen. And that you would not find your self in a situation where s3 would be better then the RAZR I or the RAZR I better then the s3 both are very evenly matched.
But all I can say is when intel give us a duel core or quad core cpu it will fly
This is just the opinion of me and my friend.
All the best
Moley

Some people asked me why didn't I buy the Siii instead. I bought the RAZR i for a few reasons:
After owning a HTC titan i found it that anything beyond 4,3" is too big.
Cost benefit the RAZR i was much better since i bought it unlocked and unbranded and is a lie chapter than the Siii.
I'm not a huge gamer so i think the daily tasks are overall the same in both devices.
I'm pretty happy with this device.

I have a s3, but I am very surprised with the battery consumption of the razr i.
Anyone who is coming from a s3 and all ready have an N4 in hand what are your thoughts and was it worth it, I just ordered N4 and currently have s3.
Hell, I went from the Galaxy SIII back to the Galaxy Nexus after just 4 weeks. I couldn't stand the physical home button and how poorly the AOSP ROMs were running on it. Even now no ROM (including CM10) is 100% rock solid on the SIII.
The N4 will be an upgrade in the software experience alone. Not to mention the better processor and build quality.
My n4 should come tomorrow. I have a s3 (international) also and will report back.

Luckily I'm moving over the next couple days so my mind will be occupied in the meantime.
Im tired of waiting for official Jelly Bean and not so impressive dev work/community for S3. Screen currently has a cracked line somehow and I never dropped it or let anyone use it .. happen in my pocket somehow? IDK. When N4 comes, gonna get the S3 replaced and sell that new.

This will be an interesting comparison. While I would never touch the US SIII, I would consider the international SIII. Would be nice to see a comparison of games like Dead Trigger, Modern Combat 3, Nova 3, Real Racing 2, NFS Most Wanted, etc. for compatibility, smoothness, load time, stability, etc.
In Canada, with a North American S3. Also making this switch. Looking forward to it...if it ever ships!

Yes I'm just wondering on the comparison to the s3 since in my opinion is the top phone right now.
I have an s3 now and even though I love the look of AMOLED screens (my htc desire, s2 and s3 all have them) the s3's is just too dim and I like red, but can't have red wallpaper as it is extremely pixelated, thank you pentile. Anyway my nexus 4 should be here tomorrow, I am planning to do a comparison video as soon as I can between the n4 and s3 for my you tube channel, I will put a link here when I am done. Is there anything you would like me to specifically look at?

I had the S3 and I hated the physical home button with a passion and went back to my GNEX within two days. I got my N4 today from T-mobile, sold my GNEX and I not looking back.
I am not into games or surfing the web on my phone, I mainly use it for my email, calender and daily task list and I am more then happy with my new N4. As I said in my first impression thread, I know allot of folks where skeptical about LG building the Nexus instead of Samsung, but I would think Google would not risk the Nexus line integrity and the LG version will be fine, only time will tell. Can't wait for CM10 to be ported to the phone so I can root it and have even more fun. Just my opinion for whats it's worth.

Sorry, but this is the SILLIEST thing i've read in a long time. FreeGS3 (my favourite) runs like boss on the S3, so does BlackBean ROM (AOKP, my 2nd favourite). CM10 stable just came out on the 13th and is running great as well.

I have the i9300, an international HOX and I just returned the Optimus G (wanted to see the difference between N4). I bought the N4 today from T-Mobile in the states. I've had it about 8 hours now and it's replacing my 9300 as my daily driver. I used to own the Galaxy Nexus too for comparisons sake.
It hasn't been long enough to give a huge amount of comparable differences but there are a few things that stand out between the N4 vs. 9300 to me.
1. The build quality! It's super solid, looks mint and feels really premium. My girlfriend is a huge fan of soft touch polycarbonate and she rubbed it all over her face when I showed it to her. I promptly snatched it back. With the exception of the HOX I'd have to say it's the best built Android device ever, and I've owned just about all the flagships. The checkered pattern on the back is very nicely done, more subtle and better looking than it's Optimus G variant.
2. It's fast! I was able to do a restore of 100+ apps when I popped my sim in and still peruse the settings, use Chrome while it was doing it's thing with barely a hiccup. The transitions when multi-tasking and such are also noticeably smoother. I was previously running the Siyah kernel on the S3 UV'd/OC'd and thought that was blazing but the N4 easily tops it in the responsive and smoothness factor. No lag anywhere so far, some of that may be attributed to more butter in 4.2. It does however get noticeably warmer on the back than my S3 ever has.
3. The screen is very nice. Way better than the GNex, the brightness of the screen definitely separates it from the S3 and the IPS further separates itself from the S3 when it comes to small text. I always set the default text size to small and it was immediately noticeable it terms of clarity. I can't really tell the difference between the HOX and the N4 screen wise.
I've been using an international S3 since June and just got a Nexus 4 today. I love it honestly. It's built great, for some reason seems much smaller than it actually is. Love the screen, love the overall feel etc.. I'll come back and add to this post after I've had it for a bit longer.. I put my S3 on craigslist about 2 hours after I picked it up tho if that helps at all.. This is the smoothest phone I've ever owned by far and here is a short list of some of the most recent ones I'm comparing too.. International S3, Nokia 920, iPhone 4s, Galaxy Nexus...
I am really interested in the galaxy note 2 but would love to get people who have experience with both to offer a comparison. I love my maxx and don't want to pay money for a note 2 if its not worth it. I would switch between both phones if I did purchase one but, is it worth the money? Is it a comparable device?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda premium
specs in the note 2 in all area expect one exceed the Maxx, battery life. I don't have one personally, but the processor, camera, and screen in the note 2 are all better, based on reviews.
Speaking if build quality however, the RAZR is superior, and ships with a more vanilla like is.
the note 2 will likely get far more dev support, but both phones are still rather young so this ones in the air
Note 2 is too big IMO. Was at your crossroads for the last couple weeks and came home with a MAXX HD for me and the wife, couldn't be happier. For what its worth all the people I know that have the Note2 love it, but it is their primary/only media/internet device. I still use my phone for calls and need portability and need to have it fit in my pocket. I have the luxury of tablets and PC's for my primary internet/media devices so the size is a negative for me. The note2 specs are nice. Btw Best Buy will price match amazon wireless so you should be able to score a note 2 for $200 and a MAXX HD for $150 from them. Battery life has been phenomenal especially compared to the Droid x I came from. Enjoy your new purchase cannot go wrong with either.
I actually have both phones right now used the note 2 yesterday and today I'm using the RAZR I have to say from build quality perspective the RAZR easily wins I would also say the screen is sharper and has more vibrant colors.
The note 2 is bigger which is a plus to some but for me by the end of the day I was sick of needing to hold it with both hands to do anything . I'm 6ft tall 200pds so I'm not a tiny guy. I really want to like the note 2 but it just seems to big IMO.
I don't understand the appeal of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
A phablet device like that seems to try and sell based on paper specs. It seems to appeal to a consumer that thinks that bigger technical specs must automatically make it a superior product.
Phablets don't seem to be very well-thought-out products. I simply cannot think of a single use case where I want something bigger than a smartphone, but smaller than a tablet. It is a device that tries to fill two roles but doesnt do either of them well.
Thread closed. Please make one thread to compare phones.
Thank you.

Gf has a gs3 I stole off her. I still love my shift. I wish the HTC one allowed 3g and voice like the evo late does. I'm liking the black one. But I like s off too. And I'm still holding my breath for an HTC qwerty. The photon q has a very small community and I just prefer HTC apps.

Just go with the ONE it's great! No need for s-off, u can unlock the bootloader very easily and root quickly, just like i did out of the box!!!
PS, I love my shift and keyboard, but working with the ONE's onscreen keyboard is not so bad after all!
I've been free to upgrade since March 1 but can't make up my mind. Both devices you mention look good but now I'm going to be looking more closely at the One. It sounds pretty awesome.

Also, if you did the gift card reserve at best buy, the phone itswlf is $50 and the card is $50, so you're basically only paying the activation fee

Well the Optimus G didn't die.. It's practically the Nexus 4. If anyone has a GSM , you can change the partitions to be exactly like the Nexus 4 . Really neat if you ask me. They are having trouble with CM at the moment. Spectrum was exactly the same but once they get it working, development will get better, also I got my Droid 4 refurb in mail and woot woot it has no issues this time! Little bit of scratches on screen but oh well my last refurb had bad hepatic feedback and it wouldn't charge so I'll just take this one. I'm going to try to pick my project back up and get it finished for speedy. Also if anyone is going to Verizon looking for a keyboard phone, Droid 4 all the way love it and it seems to be their best keyboard. We did receive official JB (4.1.2) , it's really smooth.
Back to topic, spec wise the Optimus G all the way and the screen on it is sick. I know my Spectrum had a really good screen. The performance is better on my Droid 4 then my Spectrum. Droid 4 is Dual Core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP vs. Spectrum is Dual Core 1.5 Ghz S3. I think that is because of the processor type, but so far the Optimus G seems to be doing good on performance. Many people love their UI which I almost got booted on my Spectrum (The 4.1.2) , it sorta booted, I got to the homescreen but it locked up and restarted.

They are both 0$ on a upgrade, so this is a big decision lol. Their star rating is almost exactly the same. The big up the optimus G has over the S3 would be the processor. It's a S4 Krait Pro Quad Core (That just makes me want to swap back). There are already new version of both the GS3 (GS4) and the Optimus G (Optimus G Pro). Also if you are a big photo guy the Optimus G offers a 13mp camera vs the GS3 8mp camera. Talk time seems to do better on Optimus G with 12 Hours vs GS3 9 hours. As far as the rooting process I wouldn't know. My Spectrum was really easy to root, it was simple as a bat file on windows , you just hit a few buttons and bloop does all the work for you and if you ever need to restore a LG to 100% stock just hit me up on that, super easy (done it a lot of times) . As far as development , the GS3 wins. Any LG gives devs troubles, although I do see a sense port for the Optimus G. I'm sure there is one for the GS3 too. Your decision bro.

Yeah but the thing is, with some minor tweaks you can get massive battery life on the S3 and up to 7 hours screen on time (yes, screen on time). And when I say that the Optimus G died, I dont mean that its a bad phone, just that all the hype about the "quad-core" processor and stuff just died down and yeah. And there also aren't as many developers for the Optimus G as there are for the S3, so if you plan on rooting then that might be something you wanna consider. Also, the S3 will be getting a Sense port...either when I am able to get a new S3 because the one I had is now a pile of cracked electronics, or when this other developer gets started on it (xboxfanj, he did a Sense 2.1 port for the E4GT). And as for the new versions, like I said, the S3 will (and has already begun to) get most of the new features for the S4 because software-wise it wasn't a huge jump. So unless you really want the latest and greatest, the S3 is a fine option.
As for rooting the S3, the entire process essentially consists of flashing a recovery and then the su binary. And of course there are toolkits and guides and AIO's for it by now. I would also vouch for the S3 because in case a LOT of stuff goes wrong, theres still download mode (besides recovery) where you can connect it to your PC and flash a 100% stock (unrooted) rom and start from scratch.
