AT&T is throttling the crap out of me after i hit the 5GB ceiling; normally im in an area where i get 3Mbps down/1Mbps up; now im at 512kbps down/512kbps up MAX.
Is there a way around it via APN settings? i tried a few from the Note II; none have done jack crap. also only tried them AFTER being throttled. Never attempted changing APN settings before. Thanks!
Yep been there and tried different APNs nothing worked. You can however make a change to your plan. Like switch data plan and that will reset your bandwidth usage. But if your on Unlimited you probably don't want to give it up. Or if you have a friend with an iPhone switch with them for a few hours that will change your data plan. Good luck.

what about switch with different android (old Atrix 4G)? no iphone people around i am on grandfathered unlimited.
The only other option you have is to use as much data as you can now and stick it to them. I went over because a dumb app, and they wouldn't reset anything for me. It sucks going 3 weeks on dial-up.

checked and still nada; yeah sucks bigtime my internet here is 1mbps down/512kbps up so sadly 4G is usually 2-3x faster.
thanks a ton for helping tho; hopefully i can get it worked out. i USED to be capped at 3GB; i have grandfathered unlimited. i get throttled here every time i went over 3GB with the S3, now at 5GB (once so far) with the S 4. Could it be because i am rooted? (wild random thought; on latest software from ATT)
I'm on unlimited data plan. When I'm throttled I asked to switch to the unlimited visual voicemail data plan and then I'm unthrottled. Then when I hit 5 GB and get throttled on the unlimited visual voicemail data plan, I call back and ask to be have visual voicemail taken off and they put me back on the regular unlimited data plan and I'm unthrottled again. I repeat these steps as needed when. Lol. You basically switch back between the regular unlimited data and visual voicemail unlimited.
I've been doing this since the 3gb cap days and it works every time.

What? Visual voicemail is free so you're only paying for your data plan. The regular unlimited data plan and the visual voice unlimited data plan are both $30. You can't lose unlimited because they are both unlimited plans...You're only switching between them. But you need to call them and tell them you either want visual voicemail on or off but keep your unlimited plan.

ok ill try that; im grandfathered so i dont want to rock the boat too much and lose it. thanks!
So switching from lte/gsm auto to gsm preferred or whatever stop throttle. I didnt know they dont throttle hspa.. that would make sense as had my old note set up under a lte imei so I could use pta apn and got throttled at 5gb everytime. Wonder if it works. ? Time to test.

I've been using an ISGS2 on AT&T since May. If you're on a legitimate 4G plan you can use the APN settings from the Infuse and ASGS2. If you're on a 3G plan you have to use the Cingular APN. The speeds are the same. The 4G APN is routed through seperate servers and it appears that's the way they catch unauthorized tethering and apply throttling for data overages so be warned. Since it's an international device the IMEI won't be in the AT&T database so the data for non-Smartphones $10/15 plan will work on it for any one starting new service.

A couple of weeks ago I was traveling though TX with a friend that had an Infuse on a 4G plan. My ISGS2 is on a 3G plan. We compared speeds multiple times in multiple 4G cities and I got the same speeds if not better. A couple of people have said they've seen a difference but to the majority it's the same. If you look at the ASGS2 forum there's tons of posts about people getting caught tethering and being throttled for overages. There doesn't seem to be a big advantage to routing through their 4G servers for anyone but AT&T.

Any calling plan lets you add the data for non-Smartphones plan to it. It's $10 with unlimited messaging and $15 without. The $20 unlimited messaging plan's a great deal because it comes with Mobile to Any Mobile calling. If most of your calls are to mobiles, you can get a low limit calling plan which helps offset the costs. Also, you can get a postpaid contract-less plan from AT&T if you bring your own equipment so there's no commitment of any kind.
I need to know because I am being told by tmobile a classic plan exists and there is no throttle. I ask because I use like 40gb a month on sprint. And yes I need all that data my home isp sucks.
Yes there is a unlimited non caped plan. I use it my self

There is a $30/month pre-paid plan for 100 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data (5 GB @ 4G speed). You can also get unlimited 4G data on plans for an extra $20-$30/month depending on what phone plan you're on.

They have an unlimited Value Plan and an Unlimited Classic Plan that offer no throttling. The Value Plan is a bit cheaper, while the Classic Plan is more expensive but lets you subsidize phones over 2 years. The Value Plan also lets you subsidize phones, and the best part is if you bring your own phone, you can get a cheaper rate. It's $69.99 for Unlimited Nationwide 4G on the Value plan, and $89.99 Unlimited Nationwide 4G on the Classic Plan.
You're better off going to a store and asking a rep, or calling 611 from a T-Mobile phone. It is their job to answer this type of question.
However, to my knowledge, it seems everyone has been providing the correct answer so far to support what you already heard.

No need to ask anyone.. T-Mobile told him, and so did a handful of members. I have it myself.
So i am planing to hop on board the prepaid plan group. I have done a little of my own research about various plans however they all dont seem to fit what i want. Most of the prepaid gsm plans now days require a set amount of data, which i dont need at all since im at university and have wifi access all the time. Looking for a prepaid plan with a sim so i can put into my new phone.
I am going to buy the Oppo find 5 which some of you may be aware of, but its a GSM and WCDMA pentaband phone. So from what i have read i will need a AT&T/T-Mobile based plan as those are the only providers that would work with this phone.
As for the plan i want, ideally, Unlimited texting, 150-300 minuets, and No data. As i am mostly a texting person, unlimited texting is an essential aspect to the plan i would need. Pretty much i am going for the cheapest option, preferably somewhere in the $20 per month range.
Heres what i have found for cheap GMS plans, just not cheap enough. I am not familiar with a lot of these, so if you have any experience with the provider let me know.
H2O Wireless = $30 unlim text/talk
Spot Mobile = $25 T-Mobile unlim talk/text
T-Mobile's $30 5GB 4g/unlimited SMS/MMS/100 minute plan would be good. I had it and it was decent. If you need more minutes you could always use Google Voice and Talkatone (VoIP) or similar or it's 10 cents a minute beyond the 100 minutes. It lasts 30 days and I had no problems.

Yes, do not worry, you can still use T-mobile network.
T-mobile uses another set of frequencies, but they are working on having the same connectivity as the rest of the companies. Depending on where you live you can get 3G without problems or get stack on 2G network. I am using 2G network and it is all I need!

4G is a marketing ploy. It's really DC-HSPA which is 42 Mbps HSPA but if you have a 3G GSM phone you can use it. If you have 1900 MHz 3G only you'll be limited to the places listed on www.airportal.de. If you have 1700 and 2100 you can get "4G" wherever they have it deployed on their coverage maps.

I meant using VoIP, meaning Talkatone or GrooveIP or another app to use your cellular data connection/Wi-Fi.
I just got mine with the T-Mobile prepaid $30 plan and I don't have signal in my apartment/condo which apparently T-Mobile doesn't support with their signal booster thing. Is there anything I can do?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Switch to prepaid that uses att? I tried T-Mobile knowing that I would be roaming all the time and was going to ride it out until they kicked me off for excessive roaming(they don't have service here, only roaming), but it turns out that I didn't get any data at all when I was roaming. Now using atts towers works perfectly.
---------- Post added at 10:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 AM ----------
Reading again, it looks like they do have service there but just not in your apartment? If that's the case then I dunno about increasing your signal
I live in Maine, and I just switched my two lines over to Verizon from US Cellular expecting better coverage. I typically used CDMA on USCC because the data speeds were faster and more reliable, and the better reception equaled better battery life. So now that we are on Verizon, they do not offer a CDMA option. I can use the hidden dialer code to switch it temporarily with my MXP, but the other line with a Note 4 cannot. So the Note 4 just drops calls like mad - why doesn't the dialer code work for that phone?
Secondly, is there a way to make these settings stick, so I don't have to keep switching back from LTE? I tried browsing on LTE this morning at work, just to see how it compared after using CDMA all day yesterday, and pictures would not load. At least not for several minutes (4-5 minutse), whereas on 3G they load in like 30 seconds. So I'm sold on CDMA, but sick of switching. Any advice would be great. Otherwise, we'll switch back to the better carrier.
Just go to cellular network settings and switch to 3g.
Well, maybe I'm dense, but which of these three options will give me just CDMA?
I see Verizon took out the option assuming you are stock.
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
You can probably do it in the phone info hidden menu but be careful.
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------
Yeah I'm on stock lollipop, rooted and debloated with xposed and twrp. But even without the modifications, CDMA is not an option.
I've been using the hidden dialer code, but the settings don't stick through reboot. So every night I'd need to remember to redo it after my reboot.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
What surprised me is - how did they remove it? I had the CDMA as an option when I went into the Verizon store to switch. They put in their sim - and the option was gone. Must be due to information on the SIM?
I have Verizon and this is not an issue on the three Pure's my family has. We ordered sims from Motorola though.

You have the 3G option? I'm going to head to a corporate store tomorrow and tell them we need 3G because their 4G network is a joke. Hopefully they can figure something out. Maybe they have a setting wrong which is limiting our data speeds to 1mbps for lte and .7mbps for 3G. Something has to be wrong, or no one would use Verizon.

Sunnova! Something is wrong then. Have you checked your data speeds with Speedtest.net?
