Google Play on my Atrix has been broken ever since they went to Google Play from the Market.
I've tried deleting the update but I get the usual stopped working error, its random when it crashes, but generally when I try to buy something. As soon as I click authorize it crashes.
Try clearing the cache, then uninstalling the updates, then rebooting. In that order. Any problems I've had with Play seem to go away after thats done.
How do I uninstall the updates?

In applications, find Google Play Store, click it, you'll have all those options.

I guess some of you noticed that google just updated Google Talk to replace it with Hangouts. A nice WhatsApp Clone with some beautiful features. I guess cross platform chat (Phone <> PC) is the most interesting part.
If you are an owner of an One which has Google Talk preinstalled as bloatware there is no chance to update this via Google Play unless HTC delivers an update. Too bad we're not able to uninstall bloatware / preinstalled stuff on non rooted devices...
But if you open the Play Store via browser on your computer to instruct it to install Hangouts on your phone, it will overwrite the Google Talk and you're able to use the new Hangouts app

I really wish they integrated it with sms/mms app like Facebook Messaging can do... or just made it like iMessage. But I'm happy for the upgrade.
It might not be showing up for folks because it is probably still replicating across the Play servers.
UI Layour is quite nice, hope it gets popular, but i really wanted that it could send sms , like imessage , or sms atleast so i can use that app for all.
edit.

I just got the phone today , it wouldnt let me install from Play store on the phone , it just gives me an option to open.
i went to play store on my pc and was able to install it from there on my phone and it replaced my talk app and it seems to work fine.
I opened a thread like this, Hangouts, with how to install and other stuff.
I saw this thread after.
Sorry
What I did was uninstall Google talk with titanium backup and then just install hangouts from the store later

Already Installed Issue on Hangout..
Hi, i am from India and I am having an issue about installation of Hangout, The same issue occurs to my colleague also.
In Google Play it says already installed and no update option displayed but when i open it is the same GTalk UI and same icon.
Not able to update from Google Play ( WEB / Android Device). i am using Stock LG NEXUS 4.
Howdy,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the Hangouts app to work on their N4. I'm running the latest nightly of CM 10.1. I went to install Hangouts from the Play store and it says that I have it installed. However my app is still called Talk and has the Talk interface. Has anyone had luck getting this updated?
Nevermind heh. I just used CM File Manager to move the talk.apk from /system/app to a backup location. Then I went to the Play store and tried again. This time it installed the new version.
I had the same issue. My solution was to go onto the Web store and install it from there to my phone. Seemed to do the trick.

Interesting, I tried that first but it didnt work for me.
I wish I could edit my title so it is more descriptive...
Just uninstall the original Talk app first (using Titanium or anything that's capable of remiving system app).
Seriously i rated this with 1 STAR.
It must say: "Replaces Talk AND REMOVE THE F$$$ING VOICE-CALL FEATURE FROM YOU Talk".
Its best to remove Talk and then install Hangouts.
Does anyone know how to get this working with the N4 if it's not rooted?

Nope - I have two stock, unmodified, new Nexus 4's... one upgraded no problem with the new Google Hangouts that properly replaced Google Talk... and the other, upgrades with Google Hangout but in the app list and everywhere else, still shows Google Talk but no Google Hangout. Under all apps, Google Talk is still shown. If you open it from there, the old Talk launches. If you search Google Play for Google Hangouts, it shows 'Installed' and if you open Google Hangouts from there, it launches the old Google Talk.
Very strange.... gonna try clearing some app data and what not to see if it resolves.

Should I also unplug it and wait 30 seconds?
I have the same issue as OP. I can't uninstall Talk (no root) and the play store is showing that hangout is installed. I open it and Talk comes up.

Please let us know if you figure anything out. I'm on stock as well and I'm starting to regret it because of updates like this. I bought this phone for updates but so far, it seems to be behind on that(4.2 OTA took a week). I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling google+ and that didn't work. I thought it might be tied to g+ since Google is trying to make it more involved with Android. I might root this weekend if I don't get it soon.

Google said:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. I was having the same issue as others. It shows as installed on the phone (v 1.0.0.1) and via Play Store in a browser.
I was able to use a browser and install it to my wife's Nexus S though.
Here is the APK for v 1.0.0.678017 which I was able to side load and works fine on my N4.
Due to APK file size, I had to upload it in a ZIP archive.
Thanks mate, I had the same issue on my JB Xperia. Your APK worked.

I made the same mistake. I removed the update "3.6.1.44747389", but now the market pushes "3.6.0.44338848" instead. Not sure what the difference is, but I side loaded a backup of the newer version.
The apk SpookyTunes posted worked for me, I have it on my Galaxy tab 2.

Thanks, this worked for me. I tried using Hangouts for a few days but found it lacking in some areas (mainly I wasn't able to easily locate who was online/offline/away). Talk just seems a lot more user friendly as it's much simpler.

Master plan is Talk to have and no leave no room for possible updates.

I noticed there was an update to the Hangouts app on September 30. I'm still using talk because when I tried hangouts when it first came out it was very difficult to use. Has anyone downloaded the updated hangouts app? According to some comments I read, you now have the ability to see who is online. Has the new update improved the functionality?

It's much quicker now. When you first boot (or if you kill the app) it still takes a second to open Hangouts, but returning to the app doesn't reload it every time like it did on the last version. It also seems much faster when moving between hangouts/opening a new hangout.

My lamentations of the new Google Maps are well documented. And although upon reinstalling the Kit Kat stock update I did try to give it another go, I just can't deal with it. So using Titanium Backup I uninstalled the new maps and reinstalled version 6.14.4 The issue is its still in the Playstore. Even though I used Titanium Backup to detach it from the market and then cleared cache from the Play Store it still comes back. I thought maybe it had something to do with having new maps installed on my tablet so uninstalled it but still it won't go away. So anyone have any thoughts on how to get Maps to stop showing as needing updated in the Play Store?

?.... Maybe I didn't make my post clear enough. I want to keep Google Maps. Version 6.14.4 I just don't want the dang Playstore always trying to tell me it needs an update. Although I've used TB to detach from market and cleared market cache it still seems to pick up on it and ask me to update it. So I'm wondering is there another more effective way other than TB to detach an app from the Playstore? I can't seem to find one...

Well there is away. You will need xposed installer. After you install, download a module named "Xprivacy". Go to xprivacy, find Google playstore. Make sure to check "system installed app". This way Google play store won't be able to find which apps you have installed.
